here at the Acushnet Council on Aging um to just tell a few of them the VFW in auset the American Legion in auset uh Lloyd's Market um I I I always hate to miss the mill the mill so and quite a few other places so um if bville bville Market it's good to name them because these are the people that support us so we should support them um yeah cams restaurant um next door to Rochelle's Scuttle butts Scuttle buts the library yeah the library yeah well here's a big thing the post office because they always want them and they go and I P I put them out and they go so they go the was trying to sell me Stamps though that's why I okay um we have medical equipment available here at the aush Cil on aging and would anyone like to elaborate on that plus us um sure uh we have gently used medical equipment canes Walkers rollators shower chairs um they come in quick just as quickly as they go out um they're free of charge um and anybody can just come in and grab them we don't even ask for them to be returned we just ask that they either go to somebody else in need or you know if they are returned that way we can give them um to somebody else who needs them okay thank you moving on we touched on this a little bit last month um inclement weather and the hours of the aish Council on Aging if inclement weather should happen and it probably will if the schools are closed then the cushion Council on Asian will also be closed for classes and programs the director and custodial staff will be on site in case of emergencies uh if the town hall is closed the accent counil on Aging is closed uh Let's see we have an adult Storyteller coming his name is John poino I would think right like Pacino y it's not Al Pacino's brother it might be his cousin but anyway uh on Wednesday January 22nd at 12:30 uh you'll be coming to uh I guess to read to us an adult Storyteller um there'll be songs stories he's he came very well recommended um the cultural Council is sponsoring him and um we wanted him even soon about you know schedules and that so nice way to St out of the year and there no charge no charge to the public registration is required just so you know that and I hope he's not a speed reader because then I only get every fifth word oh manicures this is this is for me now Old Colony cosmetology students will be coming to do manicures on January 9th registration is required for that and do we have a Time roughly cuz I didn't look at that so I believe their first appointment is at 9:00 and they go till about like 11:30 so there's um with multiple um appointment slots within each time frame so they actually give you give you an appointment and then you just show up at that time they're ready for you that's that's great is this going to continue through the year I believe most of the school year um I I want to say last winter they stopped around I think it was like springtime okay um but they'll they come I think it's either every month or every other the month I'm not sure but it's nice turnout so so if this comes on TV after January 9th at least people can call the councel and find out when the next time is okay and that's also no charge in my correct no charge they do take um tips yeah of course what can they do about my receding hairline I don't know they can they can polish it knowl okay here we go okay that's the old business we have to accept that business I make a motion to accept Okay second the motion all right that's accepted thank you and before I continue I wanted to mention our good friend John who's the man behind the camera and I know you never get to see him uh he's he's way why you come over and they can look at you they can see you you didn't BR PO today so you better know who he really is there he is go over this the cameraman the crew and the director right here we appreciate everything yep we appreciate everything you do okay going on to new business um uh our director Lauren V here is is going to give us a brief overview of the Chris P on Aging past year 2024 some of the things that have happened and and some of the things that we are trying to plan for 2025 so with that I'll turn a little bit to buer um so as we know that there's been a lot of um building maintenance issues that we've dealt with over the last year um I'll just kind of just go through the list of things that we've had updated um so we've updated the toilets that was used with the eart grant that we had received um we also painted the restrooms when that project was was happening um we finished the handicap accessible buttons in the back door um we had the new doors installed and um the the buttons were delayed for uh quite some time so we were able to get those going which has been you know extremely helpful for folks coming in um with Mobility you know issues and just carrying things in we have a bunch of activities always going on so it's good to just have that available um we did buy two new sump pumps in the basement which have been working phenomenally with um any flooding or anything like that that we've had in the past we had the septic tank and the grease trps pumped um which we think was also adding to some of the plumbing issues that we had had at one point um in addition to the toilets we did add um forgive me for not knowing the correct terminology it's a flushometer I think it was which just allows for more water to be flushed through the toilets um so again that's helped with a lot of the plumbing issues that we were having um in the beginning we had new gutters installed um this fall um and that was with um earmark uh grant money to that we had and then we also had refrig refrigerator maintenance I was not aware of any uh maintenance that was done in the past and coastline does use the kitchen uh daily for the Meals on Wheels program so I felt that was important to at least get that um checked out so they were able to flush the lines and do everything that they needed to do and Coastline actually shared the cost of that with us which I thought was really nice I reached out to them and again because it is a shared space that they were more than willing to to share that with us um and I applied for a new Grant um we did receive a minivan um I'm not sure when Heather had applied previously but when I started in February that's when the new van was given to us it's a a minivan I applied for a grant that same grant for a 12 passenger van to replace our 10 passenger um I just kind of thinking in the future um it's still in good standing currently but I was just worried that you know in 2 years from now or however long it takes for the grant to um go through and if you know we are approved that this new um van would be a good addition to um what we have going so to replace the older one I haven't heard anything back yet but I did apply so obviously we're hoping for good news um and then in 2025 some um other building updates that I would like to see we do need the roof repaired and that's been ongoing I think even from um last year um it's not the full roof as far as I've been informed I think it's just a few segments of the the roof that would just need to be replaced um so we'll work on getting quotes for that hopefully in the spring and use the remainder of the the earmark grant money that we have um and then then just something extra that I would like to see done I would like to um get a professional deep clean done of the building I think that's important especially I know that we're kind of over the the huge um sweep of Co um but I don't know the last time that that was actually done in the building and I think it would be beneficial to have a you know a deep cleaning done and it would make it easier for the custodial staff to keep up with things as well um I think in the past things have kind of um been forgotten um and we focus so much on the day-to-day stuff that we see and I think you know a deep clean in the building the walls everything would be you know really good to see done so that's an extra bonus thing it's nothing that you know is urgent this time and I know that there's other things that need to be replaced but especially with all the neuro viruses and everything again that that would be great and it would it be in all the TP just you know one yeah one time that was that thank you a lot that was great now that that what did you call that a a super flush button oh a a flushometer flushometer does that have like a red alert button in the bathroom it sounds like I got to check that out okay yes thank you very much I appreciate that uh we want to talk about the uh the Outreach specialist position it is still available we still have people making applications for it filling out applications for it and currently I guess uh um um Lauren is uh going through interviews with some of the folks yes so going to schedule those in the upcoming days so that's still available if anyone's interested and I don't remember what the requirements are that they need a bachelor's degree um I don't know off the top of my head um I think it was either um a bachelor's degree in like social services or experience could um take over for that okay would like to remind you that representative Paul Schmidt is here on the first Monday of every month from 11:30 to 12:30 and you'll be happy to answer answer any questions that you may have and he's a nice man M I've met Paul many times yep he's a good guy uh let's see uh Lauren already talked about the gently used medical equipment that we have so if anybody needs something like a walker or cane or whatever we might be able to help you okay there's a veterans copy social here at the Kush Council on agent it's the first Tuesday of every month and uh see what does it say here it's with Brad Fish and it's from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and uh let's see says his phone number here is 508 99827 extension 4207 so if any veterans are interested in that or if you wish you were a veteran they might let you in we'll see how it goes okay he always brings Donuts so that's okay so do I have a motion to accept the new business thank you thank you okay that's accepted so it's p and Jerry we have uh under information or questions for the board we have the passing of passing of clear let me try this again the passing of clear Jette okay I'd like to talk about that okay talk about c um everyone knows Pat mki Pat is a member of the board and she is not here today because this is the week that her mother was laid to rest um Pat was has done so much in town she's very well known Pat this is Pat now I'm talking about she's a newest and she is a lovely lovely lady and that's because of her mother CLA Jette CLA was an angel um we don't usually talk about people who have passed but clear not only did she come to the Council on agent she worked for Coastline eldering until she was in her 80s and um I I remember meeting her about 20 years ago and there was this lovely lady running around kind of greeting people pointing you in the right direction answering people's questions that was clear and I didn't know that Pat was her daughter until we had here at the Council on Aging we had a friends of the elderly and Claire was a big part of that and she would come here at night and I would be here too and we would open up the center uh for different activities um mainly we were staring Zumba here I think um so then uh time went on and Chris started to lose it a little bit and Pat started bringing her in well K thought that this was her job and Heather would give her some envelopes to stuff and she was always so pleasant and she and I would be talking and she'd say to me well you know you have a lovely lady but I have a job that I have to get to go and then later um when she was at um Alden courp and uh her family first of all every time you saw CLA she was like Immaculate I mean always here with done her always look so cute and always so pleasant and um she was at Alden court and her family I know that they checked up and made sure everything was done right but Alden Court does a good job and and cl was very happy there and I I went to visit her and she would smile and talk with me uh but I only went a couple of times but one time Pat was talking with her and I was seeing Pat said would you like to talk with my mother oh yeah so I'm talking to her and again well you seen to be a lovely lady but I have to get back to work so she even had a job at she really didn't what she thought she did and um I the last time I saw CLA again she was sitting at a table sort of like this one with a lot of other elderly people but her head was down and um the attendant said CLA CLA you had company but but but she was kind of sleeping and she went down you know she definitely went downhill um but she did celebrate her 100th birthday oh and one other thing I wrote a letter to recommend prayer for woman of the year she was so active with the veterans she did everything for soldiers she she did all kind well she did many many things in town but the veterans that was her thing she didn't get it but she did get other Awards and acclamations you know um so she didn't get women of the air but and shame on shame on the standard times but that's okay um because she was well recognized but she did Girl Scouts here she did crafts um you know here in town she was she she worked on a farm when she was younger she had like five or six children I mean she what a great lady and just the salt of the earth is that a saying do they still say that salt of the earth real deal yeah so we don't usually talk about people a lot of our members are wonderful and have passed on and we miss them very much but Claire was really special from Coastline and working here well having a job here and you know so that's my and she's Pat's mama and Pat's a member of our board and that's why I wanted to mention that so she was Woman of the Year here she was was and should have been women of the Year folks and her daughter's just as lovely oh her daughter she's she's her mother you know I found the perfect card that said you know your mother's influence on you and and you know she'll always be with you and she is she's part of p and and the other children are nice too I met another daughter I met a couple of sons two very very nice yeah w we why we just take a moment of silence for Clear okay thank you and ch CLA um I know we're talking about CLA but I should also mention Ted Chopper Ted Chopper Ted very well known in a kushna and we should mention his name I don't know much about him he was an older man yeah yeah he still owns the plaza where um camps yes we camps it that all those all that Plaza there he own but his son has been running it because he was not well yeah he lost his daughter recently and then and then he passed but he was a nice nice man I heard that he was I didn't know him y okay there's always a lot going on for a small town in aush say that again all things going on I'd like to bring uh call your attention to a few websites uh first of all the aush Council on Aging website uh the Acushnet Library I'm not sure what these websites are but I would imagine if if you Google them you'll you'll get right to them this is why I put this in here okay the AC chriset cultural Council sponsors a lot of programs and these programs are held here at the Council on Aging and at the library and um people don't really know that these programs are free and so often you hear oh you know small town nothing to do plenty to do if you go on the library website there are so many programs going on daily um for all age groups children middle age people like we're middle Ag and and for older people too and and and and it's all a lot of it not all but a lot is sponsored by the aush cultural Council as well as the friends of the aush library here at the center Len has a gigantic budget Len has a budget and she puts on many programs here through grants and but also we have programs here from the Krishna cultur Council and just this morning I went over and I saw Tanya and Sydney at Town Hall and they're going to put a lot of the things that are going on from the Krishna cultural Council on a website so I just want people out there to know that go to these websites you can see all of these activities and events and programs that are taking place most they're free of Judge you know because the cultural council is sponsoring them or the friends of the library or Marvin are sponsoring these programs but that's why the websites you know I never looked at the websites I never did and a lot of people don't know they exist yeah so so I guess what people out there should do is go to the town ofet yeah and then look at the individual websites okay perfect yeah and and Pauline has a website there too for the historical commission oh yes we do yeah and and the the um museum is open in the summer I can come and visit and they do have people from all over that may through September yep yeah I should should have mentioned your website I'll put it in the notes for next time I forgot it they would just they would just go to the um historical commission long plane museum.org but it would be on theet website yeah Museum y okay and that's all I wanted to say I a lot today huh that's all right wel Big M it's our first here we have a lot to say exactly and could I mention just one thing um if there's um the Flyers left over if more could go to the Post Office okay my husband is getting badgered every day when he goes for our mail because there's no more flyers they take them quickly and he comes home and he tells me every day that you could to get Flyers over there because they're badgering me every day you know what when I leave here I have a meeting I have to go to right away but I'll stop at the post office first okay bring some more all right thank you okay thank you okay um we here at the uh Chris C on Aging want to ask everybody to please be safe U it looks like we could have pretty nasty winter at times first of all the temperature is colder than it's been I think for the last 4 years oh it's very important you be careful with electric heaters don't burn kerosene heaters in your home wood stoves wood stoves are another thing just be careful be careful when when it snows or there's ice out because you know you got to be careful if you're trying to shovel and you're not quite up to shoveling and stuff like that please try to ask somebody for help um just just kind of be careful because this this winter might be kind of rough the coldest and snow snowiest we've had in three or four years anyone have anything they'd like to add I don't think so I'll okay then uh our next meeting will be Wednesday um I make a motion to a June and I need a second oh I haven't got there yet oh oh I'm sorry okay okay yeah you think first our next meing will be Wednesday for feary 12th uh 2025 at 10:00 a.m. right here at the aishna Council on Aging and now okay thank you so much we'll see you next one me J [Music] a [Music]
