opportunity not only for the district but for all of its members students and staff included can you come up that way oh wow good evening uh my great Bome board members of the education department uh great to be here my name is Jason Lester I'm the Special Assistant to the president as well as the executive director of the cane Scholar Academy uh I'm just so pleased to be here before you to this day um to talk about our Newfound partner and relationship with the Bown Public Schools my twin brother he's running a little late he's parking his car he just got finished teaching a class in Clifton but he will be here you'll notice him as soon as he walks into the door we look identical um we're just so proud to be here um we know the rich history of Bon the quality of Education that you provide for the young people uh in this community um it's very you know touching for us because we have one of our own at the helm leading Bon uh Public Schools you're probably wondering why in the hell do I have a football helmet here well it is without saying Mr nie was a great linebacker for the can cougars and believe it or not I was able to rumage through a few of the locker rooms and I found this helmet granted I can't fit it but I'm sure he can and we wanted to give him this his pride and joy back to him welld deserved well earned his number was 51 um we had to sell his numbers to somebody else but nonetheless we're very proud of him um our relationship with the Bon public schools and the young people that represent this great community is something that's been in the making for a few months something that we're looking to do starting with young people in the seventh e8th grade as we help develop the minds of Tomorrow we're looking at developing summer programs uh programs throughout the course of the year that will not not only enhance their ability to move forward but become better students here at the high school now for our high school students we want to make sure that they have every opportunity to earn college credits at an institution that is not only world class but is also in transformation through professors tees that look like them giving them every opportunity to be not only locally competitive but on a global scale with our campuses in China we're looking to do some things in South Africa we're again Kan University is going global under our president Dr repet Who was the former Commissioner of education in New Jersey former superintendent uh down the shore area tremendous educator who believes in our young people and especially communities like this often times we don't get a fair Shake we don't have every opportunity but now we're in a place where we can get those opportunities to expand to grow to make sure that our families have that opportunity to live the American dream we also have opportunities for our parents we have an initiative called generation to generation where our parents can go back to school um and get credentials certificates that will enhance their lives I told you you would recognize my brother right away he can't help himself with sneaking up on me um so we're really excited about what we're going to do how we're going to partner how we're going to grow our relation relationships now there's a little known fact I'm going to steal his joy in Thunder my brother my stepmother and father they graduated from Bon Public Schools so again Our Roots Run really deep you ready pal I am ready okay behave yourself we got company all right thank you thank than you thank you well done yes and thank you thanks for having us K University could not be more pleased and to partner with Bon the Bon bees are just fighter bees protecting the hive but um as my twin brother said my parents graduated grew up on Avenue A in 20th Street uh and uh certainly uh enjoy the all the fruits of the labor of the wonderful town of Bon it's a tremendous opportunity not only for the children and parents and families of BM but for Kane University one thing I wanted as a former superintendent for 23 years I uh retired and went into the work of higher ed and my role as our president assigned me former Commissioner of Education was to go out and create Partnerships that are customizable to help the families the students the administration teachers and staff of that particular District we have over 600 districts in New Jersey very similar in a lot of ways but very unique in most ways so we want to uh partner with your folks the Board of Ed the administration to solve and help and assist and Implement programs that make sense for Bon and we're going to work to customize that so I look forward to continuing our relationship sorry I was running late uh ran from another District to here the traffic didn't get any better since I was here last visiting my grandmother but uh thank you for having us and thank you for Did we tell them about this wonderful helmet I did oh okay then then I'm going to leave it there so again thank you Board of Ed thank you superintendent and staff we look forward to uh enjoying a great relationship [Applause] partnership we put back we don't I don't want you [Music] I just want everyone to know the superintendent's number was 51 when he played we were going to put 51 on the helmet but guess what we thought you might think it's a year he graduated so we said we better not you know you remember when we did H County Community College do the same we could all kind of stand middle me take it where if you need in guys yeah [Applause] nice to meet that was really nice you can't get back to statistics we make them up anyway thank thank you thank you than [Applause] you okay so that is all the business we have but we do have some cards um our first speaker is our uh student Board of Ed representative Miss Miriam GED good evening everyone as we are approaching the holiday season stuga created many enjoyable events for students and has many more great plans and events for arban high school students firstly reflecting on our past events homecoming held on on October 19th was a great Su success we had many students show up and the high school gym was packed with uh with students just enjoying a time together we were able to get a DJ provide great food and have astonishing decorations which everyone was fond of after the event we received many positive comments and feedback which only serves to motivate us to keep up the good experience coming up for our students moreover pep rally and tailgate were also major successes pep rally was a lot of fun for the students in sports who uh or who are seniors at Bayon high school as there was a lot of fun mini games uh we provided for them to add on in tailgate we were able to provide face paintings which many students loved and we sold glow-in-the-dark items to match with the white out theme our spirit week that was held in the week of October 21st to the 25th had a lot of participants especially on Tuesday for Surfers versus bikers Wednesday when we we wore pink for breast cancer awareness and Friday when we held our color Wars furthermore stuga had the opportunity opportunity to create a video that encourages students to keep up their attendance and show up to school for the show up campaign stuga members gathered on November 4th and were able to construct the video which will soon be on our Bion High School page lastly for the upcoming nja election North Jersey schools will have the opportunity to nominate a candidate after doing a few interviews stuga has chosen a candidate and submitted their application so we can get a chance to be represented at the state level now moving on to our upcoming events stuga is excited to hold our Thanksgiving spirit week that will start on the 25th of November we will have a minions day where people get to dress up as minions culture day which is when all students get the opportunity to express themselves and their nationalities by wearing clothes from their cultures and dressing and finally dressing up as their favorite dish uh which will be the day right before Thanksgiving to celebrate and raise Spirits for the for the upcoming holiday secondly stuga is looking forward to holding a winter fest on December 17th and having holiday Gams we have already chosen the members who will share both events and are looking forward to hosting them third we are also planning a December Spirit Week where we will first start the week off by pajama day so students will get to wear their favorite holiday PJs uh next will be an ugly sweater day where everyone will get to have the opportunity to show off their favorite ugly sweater Winter Wonderland will be the next theme that encourages students to wear winter colors such as white or blue and finally ending the week with candy cane day in which students will dress up as a candy cane mainly wearing red white and green next students will also be participating in the Samaritan purse in December where uh stuga will also be participating in the Samaritan spur in December where students can drop off gifts and we will wrap them up in boxes and donate them to those in need in addition Suga has just obtained a new position on our board which is called a charity chair where the member member will be in charge and responsible for all charity events that stuga will be holding in the future and starting from the next elections of the stuga board uh this position will be added as an option for students to run for finally with all those upcoming events sua will be keeping all all our students updated through our BHS stuga Instagram page we are very much eagered and excited to make the school year memorable for all our Bion high school students thank you thank you thank you up next Eliza Tipton good evening members of the board my name is Eliza Tipton power professional at woodro Wilson Community School number 10 and I would like to address an ongoing concern thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak tonight on behalf of the dedicated par Professionals in our district I have been a bon board of education parah for the past six years working in the ASD program and a product of the Bon public school system I stand before you as I voice for those who work tirelessly every day to support the children in our schools power professionals are an integral part of the educational system we are there with the children for the entire school day supporting them academically emotionally socially and in many cases we experience things with the students that the teachers to no fault of their own despite their hard work may not see we see their struggles and their triumphs up close we are there constant their anchor throughout the day the week and the year yet despite our commitment we remain without a contract this not only impacts us but also the students that we serve other districts have successfully negotiated contracts for their par professionals that account for the rising cost of living if they can do it so can we it's not just about about Fair compensation it's about recognizing the value that we bring to the table and to the classroom and ensuring we can continue to provide the best support possible for all of our children for your children being contracts for months has created stress and uncertainty amongst us many are experiencing burnout and heartbreakingly are considering leaving the district even the field altoe this would be a devastating loss not just for us as par professionals but the students who depend on us tonight I ask the board to prioritize resolving this issue in a respectful and diplomatic manner let's prevent burnout prevent turnover let's give our power professionals the contracts they deserve so we can continue helping the children that we need that need us most let's all be Bon strong let's all Stand United for education help us help the kids thanks thank you thank you all right up next uh Miss Tesha Mato good evening sorry good evening um first I would like to talk about the video on May 21st there was a qu Forum in the other room on the website every video recording of public speaking is up but that one I don't know if it's to protect the staff member but I would like it back up for public transparency thank you ever since I last spoke in May sorry if you can't hear me clear um no one has reached out to my son for to restore any relationships to make him feel included um basically just showing certain student athletes matter and I know there's a campaign students matter right I guess it's just whoever your friends are or whoever you know I I guess that's where that's where the students you pick and choose who matters um it was so bad in May after that recording that someone contacted the police to hurt my son a child that has never been suspended never been in trouble and has never been into a fight that's how serious it is I also want to address the biasness of the Hib investigation um when I filled out a 33a form I put five to six Witnesses and an entire BAS team was interviewed not once but a few times taking them out of the instruction and that is not what my 338 form stated about the witnesses and also it was said and I want the public to know that if at any time any Hib is sent to a law firm for independent investigation that is not how it works it is an ABS assigned by the school that does the investigation lastly I just would like to say that in numerous correspondents during the opras and the email emails there have been emails from another parent during that time I never received a phone call nothing and I just want to know why some parents have a little more power than others if you speak up you know you're a problem you're a headache but other parents can constantly email all the time to protect their kids when there's a self-interest here or relationships but if I speak up there's a problem lastly I would like the social media to stop the constant posting president um you posted on June 1st and 13th post about coaches and during that time when I was speaking about the varsity baseball coach and the bullying in the climate and culture you proceeded to post two post coincidentally during that time I felt like it was to provoke I think that's unethical I also think that that prompts no you know it should be a voter no confidence because it violates and enrolls trust with the state holders when you do that so I'm just here to say that there should have been a resolution for my son some type of restorative practices everyone that sits down Mr copz you have the most power here one phone call you could have changed it someone needs to pay attention and include my son and help my son thank you thank you thank you all right uh up next Mr Jean Woods Bea president this this will be pretty short um La two about two weeks ago superintendent n sent out a really great letter uh congratulating to staff based on the information uh that came back from cusac and then today or there's Dennis um today uh Dr degnan spoke about uh the great findings that came out of the qac work and I just want to say thank you to all the Educators and everyone in the district I think this is the first time right superintendent n at B has been a high performing District long right it's been been a pretty long time so I just again want to say thank you both for acknowledging that and thank everybody for doing the hard work that we've been doing in a district for many years now so thank you everyone thank you all right that's all the business I have uh can we have a motion to adjourn than okay trusty bashet yes trusty Burke yes trusty Des yes trusty gesi Rodriguez yes trusty maio yes trusty samola yes president casayas yes all right
