Part: 1

1
00:00:01.760 --> 00:00:50.975
Brownsburg Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees regular meeting. Please stand and join me for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of The United States Of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Please join me for a moment of reflection. Thank you. Communications. Commendation. Eight, HOSA and DECA winners. Miss Murphy? Yes. Thank you very much. We have a a group of kiddos here from two different organizations. HOSA is for our future health care professionals,

2
00:00:51.275 --> 00:01:29.860
and DECA are our future business professionals. And they're all state champions in their field. They have a conference that they go to, and they were named state champions at that conference. And so we wanna make sure that we recognize them. Some of them have been to the international conference, the world championships since then. But we wanna make sure we bring up Sawyer Newman, Tomi Otoala Otoana, and Tola Wannimi Ayole. These are our host of kiddos. Come up here, guys. Right up here first. So Sawyer, come over here first. Okay. So you are Tomi? So tell me who's here with you. I'm here with my mom, miss.

3
00:01:31.360 --> 00:02:05.160
And you're a junior, and so health care is something that you're interested in as a profession later. Yes. What what exactly do you wanna do? I foresee my I foresee myself becoming an OB GYN. And in order to, like, help women and bridge the gaps in health care for black women especially. Well, tell me what project got you a state championship. Okay. So I competed in two events. One of one of them was biomedical equipment technician, and I got first place in that event. And my second event was home health aid, and I got second place in that. And how did you prepare for all that?

4
00:02:05.160 --> 00:02:39.695
For biomedical equipment technician, I spent, like, three months studying for my test. And for the home health aide, I studied for a test in which I advanced to the second level, and I had to compete in different skills, like caring for a patient. And that's what got me to where I'm at right now. That's pretty impressive. Okay. Let's see. What what did you do? And who's here with you? I'm here with my dad, mister John Aweale, and my event was medical reading. I placed first place. I had to read five books. I really love reading.

5
00:02:39.695 --> 00:03:14.895
It's been one of my biggest hobbies ever since I was a kid. So being able to compete in this event and show off my skills was really amazing. So what what do you medical reading. What are you reading? They gave us five different texts, books that were based off different medical things that were happening in the field. So one of the books was, about a doctor who was really who's really successful, and we have to read about his life, and we have to answer questions on that. So that was one of the books that we have to read. And you see yourself as a healthcare professional someday? Yeah. What do you wanna do? I want to be a general practitioner.

6
00:03:14.955 --> 00:03:48.670
I would love to be able to help people and just share my skills and share the God given abilities that have been given to me. Wonderful. Wonderful. Sawyer is a sophomore, and this is his second time that he was a state champion for HOSA. Correct? Correct. So what did you do? Well, so the event is called Healthy Living, and it's a leadership event where you choose a SMART goal, which is SMART goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relatable, and timely. So then you choose that goal, and you do it over the span of nine to twelve months, and you're making a portfolio tracking your,

7
00:03:48.990 --> 00:04:22.150
what you've done over that span of nine to twelve months. And then you bring it to the competition, and you present what you've done. And it's an advocacy event, so what you're doing is hopefully reflecting into the community on, you know my specific was, like, weight lifting four times a week, and I advocated for that. And then also hydration, and I would advocate for hydration too. And, sorry, who do you have with you? I have my dad, Jeff, and my mom, Annie Newman. And healthy living is important to you because you're also a rugby player, so you have to make sure you stay in shape. Just came straight from rugby practice,

8
00:04:22.370 --> 00:04:55.890
so he changed for us, which is nice. So so tell us what you wanna do after you get out of high school. You still have two more years of doing this. Yeah. Since I like you said, I'm a sophomore, so it's undecided what I really wanna do in college. But, yeah. I honestly am undecided for what I wanna do in college. But you're interested in health care, you think? It's definitely one of the options. Alright. Well, very cool. We're gonna get your certificates really quick. Miss Heffernan, what you got for us? Bronx Community School Corporation. Certificate of accommodation is hereby presented to Eowali for placing first at Jose State, conference and medical reading.

9
00:05:08.145 --> 00:06:11.980
Tomi for placing first at the Jose State, conference in biomedical equipment technician. And Sawyer for placing first place for the second year in a row at the Jose Jose State, conference in healthy living. And we're gonna let them stay stay up here and hold out your certificates. Parents can come up and take a picture, and I'm gonna take a picture really quickly. Just hold up your certificate, guys. Good? Alright. Congratulations. You guys can have a seat. Up next, we have our DECA state champions, Zara Faheem. I think you got here. Thank you, dear. Bella Balmaceda, Akash Shah, Alex Fisher,

10
00:06:12.760 --> 00:06:50.225
Sammy Clark, Florence Acacapo, and Simone Dexamo. And all these folks were state champions at DECA of various and they you guys all went to the international thing too. Right? So that was that was the second part of this. So tell me your name again and who's with you. I'm Simone Dexamo, and I'm here with my lovely mother. Who got to sit down? You didn't have to come up. That was good for you. So, and let's see. Simone was with Florence, and tell me who's with you? I'm with my dad, Rafael Acapo. Okay. And tell us about your project that won state for DECA.

11
00:06:50.445 --> 00:07:22.215
So Florence and I competed in an event called integrated marketing campaign, and we, did a charity event. We partnered with the Danville Royal Theater as well as DECA putting us in touch with the charity Family Promise. And we ran a charity event themed to Ghostbusters and raised $1,200 for Family Promise. And we took that to stay and presented it to judges. What was your favorite part of doing this project? My favorite part was definitely making the drinks and all that stuff because it was really fun thinking of the creative aspect and just seeing everybody's faces when they came to, like,

12
00:07:22.215 --> 00:07:57.530
see to the actual event was really fun. And you guys are both juniors. Is this something that you wanna do after high school? Definitely. I want to pursue global business in college. I'm still thinking about what I'm gonna do in college, but I think maybe after, like, this competition, it is something that I want to pursue or something like that. Cool. Very, very cool. Okay. We have Alex, Sammy, and Akash. You guys were on the same thing, as well. Tell me who's here with you. I brought my parents with me, Morgan Shaw and Anjali Shaw. Wonderful. And and tell me a little bit about the project. So we did the browser deck, the sales project.

13
00:07:57.670 --> 00:08:31.855
Our overall goal is to send as many students to the state in international competitions for the least amount of cost for them. This year, we raised close to $60,000 saving, a 180 kids, a $150 each for state competitions, and 38 kids around $850 each for international competition. So you raise the money so that your classmates could go? Yes, ma'am. That's very cool. Sammy Clark, who's here with you? My parents, Dave and Jamie Clark. And tell me where the most rewarding part about being part of this project? I think just being able to see,

14
00:08:31.855 --> 00:09:05.265
like, everyone being able to go to state in internationals without the cost being, like, on their shoulders and also being able to connect with the community through all of our sponsorships and just being able to see that reflect from last year into into this year. Cool. Now Alex is here by himself. And tell me tell me more about being part of DECA. That's already drove himself. He's got it. He's probably making all kinds of money and buying his own car and stuff. That's how this works. So so tell me about working with other people to achieve a goal. What's that like? Because sometimes group projects aren't the best. Yeah. Well, I got two amazing teammates right here, so it made it a whole lot easier.

15
00:09:05.265 --> 00:09:41.140
And, you know, throughout life, you have to learn how to work with people. So I think Decca does a great job preparing you for that, preparing you to work towards Good deal. Well, thanks, guys. Sarah, hi. So, tell me a little bit about, your project for DeCA and how it won't stay. So And who's with you? I'm here with my father today right there in the pink shirt. And my thing consisted of a 100 question exam, and then it was followed up by, like, this simulation of a real world marketing project. Or you had 10 questions to prepare from a scenario, and then you'd have ten minutes to present to a judge.

16
00:09:41.140 --> 00:10:16.030
So were you nervous? Not really. Why were you not nervous? How did you feel prepared? State, I wasn't but then we got to internationals, and then I felt the nerves because I was like, oh, it's more competition. Because it's worse. But yeah. And you're just a sophomore? Yes. So what made you decide to get into DECA? I kinda wanna pursue business on the side of medicine, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to learn a little bit about connecting with people and, overall, just being in the world of it. Very cool. Alright. Bella is here, and her two, teammates couldn't be with us today. Bella Valmaceda, tell us who's with you.

17
00:10:16.490 --> 00:10:48.690
I'm with my parents, Mitzi and Philip Valmaceda. And talk about the project that you guys did together. The project that I did with my partners, Tequilla Zhang and Daniel Phillips, was the career development project. Essentially, our goal was to send as many of our chapter members to state and international competition as possible, and I'm extremely happy to announce that we sent a 180 kids to state and 38 kids to international competition, which was a record for our chapter. So our project was extremely successful in that regard. Talk about the people that are your advisors in DECA because I know how you

18
00:10:48.690 --> 00:11:19.715
guys feel about the the teachers that teach you in class because it's a two period class that you sign up for for DECA, and they do more than just teach. Absolutely. It's mister Baron and missus Sablehouse, and I feel like they've made an impact on every single one of not only the cadre kids who spend two and a half hours a day with them every single day, but also every member of DECA because they're really here to support all of us. If you have a side hustle that you wanna do, mister Baron would love to talk your ear off about it. And if you have any accounting, finance related questions, missus Abelhouse has the best advice for you.

19
00:11:20.015 --> 00:12:21.375
Well, congratulations to you guys. You make us very proud. The DECA program is tremendous and all of our state champions and some of you coming back next year, so we're expecting big things. And we're moving through our certificates, missus Heffernan. What you got? We have Simone and Florence for placing first place at DECA State Conference and integrated marketing campaign event. You got it. Certificate of accommodation for Alex Fisher, Akash, and Sammy Clark for placing first the DECA SAINT, conference in sales projects. And then we have Zara for placing first the DECA STATE conference in principles of

20
00:12:21.375 --> 00:13:42.205
marketing. We have Bella for placing first the DECA STATE conference in career development with a project with with Daniel and Tiggy. Alright, guys. Open up your ticket. Get stand up and let your parents take a picture, and me too. It's like a concert or something. There's phones everywhere. You got them? Alright. Congratulations, guys. Thanks for being here and telling us about your projects, and we're proud of you and your and your achievements at state. And now you're free to go quietly out the back door. Okay. The Brownsburg Education Foundation report, Chip in for the kids golf outing is presented by Summer's Plumbing,

21
00:13:42.205 --> 00:14:20.685
Heating and Cooling on Friday, June 12 at Westchase Golf Club. Contact the BEF office for sponsorship opportunities or individual team registrations, and you can register online. There are only two foursome spots left. Scholarships. Seniors were presented with scholarships on April 23. BEF awarded $84,000 to the BHS class of 2026. '19 of these scholarships are on behalf of the BCSC employees because of the payroll deduction contribution. Thank you so much. And grants. The BEF grant committee met to award over $90,000 in classroom incorporation wide grants for the twenty twenty six-twenty twenty seven school year.

22
00:14:20.685 --> 00:14:56.210
The committee also chose the hydroponic garden project in West Middle School applied skills class titled seeds for success as the twenty twenty six innovative grant of the year. See the BEF website soon for information about all of these awards. Operations update, mister Hacker. Thank you very much. Couple things this evening for you. First up is just a little bit about graduation, our team twenty twenty six commencement ceremony. Quite honestly, it's hard to believe that we're already here. I think everyone's ready, certainly, for it to be here as we approach the end of the year. But,

23
00:14:56.450 --> 00:15:30.730
just this is the, graphic that went out to our, those who are graduating, participating in the ceremony of team twenty twenty six. And it just kind of lists all the, the mandatory items and and different plans that we have in place for the graduation ceremony, which will take place out on the, in the football stadium. So as a reminder, we will do that, or as far as practice goes on Friday, June 5. That's 10AM. That is a mandatory for any senior that is going to walk. They must participate in the practice. And then we get to Saturday, and we are just really hopeful for great weather. The best opportunity,

24
00:15:30.870 --> 00:16:04.525
obviously, being outside in June is that 10AM time slot when it comes to the heat. But we do have several different options there. Four different options would be a 10AM on Saturday, either 2PM on Saturday or 6PM on Saturday. And if all of those happen to have poor weather throughout them that were unable to participate in ceremony, then we will shift it to 02:00 on Sunday. As a reminder, we do not have an inside option. There are no tickets. We, and again, we really want to host this at our sites. One might think that the field house is an opportunity to move that inside,

25
00:16:04.525 --> 00:16:39.800
but, again, there's only about a thousand, seat capacity there in the bleachers, and we would not be able to host the entire graduation ceremony there and plan for that. Again, it's spectators. We will, open gates. You can see there early, 08:30 at the 10AM, 12:30 for the 2PM, 04:30 for the 6PM, as far as when gates open. And, and we will get through the ceremony in, probably about an hour and fifteen minutes, hopefully. So, the for those who cannot attend or, with a reminder that we do livestream on BCSC TV, and we'll be on demand shortly thereafter the the ceremony concludes.

26
00:16:39.800 --> 00:17:12.190
So plenty of options there to see our graduates walk across the stage. And, again, hopefully, the the weather is looking out for us on that weekend, but happy to answer any questions. This is the exact same plan that we had last year. So just moving that forward. Procession starts at 09:40. Procession. That's correct. So while the 10AM that's a great point, miss doctor Jessup, is that the the ceremony starts at 10AM, but processional will begin about twenty minutes prior to that. So we really wanna start the ceremony as your graduations graduates are seated at the time that's listed. So if you think that,

27
00:17:12.430 --> 00:17:50.400
getting there ten that you will get to see the kids walk from the field house out on the football field, you will miss that. So it's about twenty minute processional. Thank you for that reminder. Perfect. Also, just a quick reminder, we do, I know this has been in, some of the social media posts, and we've talked about it as well. But, May 14, this Thursday, there's a joint RDC town council meeting, where we're we are looking at the TIF resolution proposal. As a reminder, back to the RDC meeting a couple weeks ago, there, was a resolution there where the partnership for the, between the schools using TIF dollars about $555,000.

28
00:17:50.540 --> 00:18:22.945
I believe that there will be a potential look at an increase of that dollar amount at the combined joint meeting. And, again, why is it joint? It's a good town council, can make the recommendation, but, ultimately, the, authority to use that funds to send to the school lies in the hands of the RDC. And so because we've communicated the need for, kind of a quick timeline on this, because we really ultimately have to make our decision of what November looks like for us by June, it's the reason why we will, have the joint meeting. That way, if this does happen to increase, we will know,

29
00:18:23.645 --> 00:18:58.880
and all that can be take place in one meeting. And so if that were to, hold true, the first payment is the '20 in January 2027 for the 2627 school year. Also, there will be a joint Brown Lincoln Township meeting, I believe, on May 19 as a proposed interlocal agreement to help cover costs of the McKinney Vento program. McKinney Vento program, is that for students who experience homelessness in our district. And, probably not something that a lot of folks know that, you know, if a student resides in Brownsburg and it begins school here and something happens, a great example of this,

30
00:18:59.040 --> 00:19:34.750
would be, you know, sometimes we think homelessness, that's a that's a financial situation. It could be a fire, it could be a tornado, severe weather, those types of things where all of a sudden a family has to resort to some temporary housing. If that student if that temporary housing lies outside of the Brownsburg District, we will still provide transportation to those students. If they are still within town, we usually use a bus. But if they are in Marion County, we've had some as far as Greencastle. We've had some as far as, I think Greenfield. Again, we do not receive any additional dollars from the state to provide the transportation. And as we look even for this school year, that's about $315,000

31
00:19:34.750 --> 00:20:07.110
that we've spent on this particular program just in transporting the students using the car service. So, ranges between 56, or the last few years, about 56, 65, 70 students ish that have, throughout the course of the year that have participated in this program. So it does impact quite a few students. And that is the what's part of that interlocal agreement proposal to the, to the townships as we look potential partnership with them as well. Not just the town, but the townships as well. So, just very excited about the the potential of those opportunities and wanna make sure that everyone is in the loop on what days those,

32
00:20:07.270 --> 00:20:45.725
meetings are. Any questions on that? Alright. Last thing, on the ops update side is, a pretty neat, opportunity for Brownsburg Tennis Club. So, the ATP, the which is the Professional Tennis Association, is going to come to Brownsburg for what's called the Challenger seventy five. That'll be come here in August. It'll be about a week long tournament. And so some information I wanted to share with you. It'll be the first major ATP outdoor event in Indiana since 2009. You might remember the RCA championships. Ultimately, that those went away because they really were no longer popular because they shifted the

33
00:20:45.725 --> 00:21:19.670
time frame. And the reason why this will be so popular is that this is a, is a final event series toward a a spot in the US Open. So, that'll take place usually in September. And the reason why this will be a popular event is that it'll host a lot of international, players as well. And if they are potentially coming over here to participate in the US Open, then as close to September as possible, which is why the the range of the date is in that spot. We will have players in the top 100 to 300 in the world participating in this. And, it'll also the USTA will provide kids clinic,

34
00:21:19.670 --> 00:21:52.160
community events. Our our own players will have the opportunity to practice with the professionals, get to be ball kids, etcetera. It's also a fundraising opportunity for us. And so while the, ATP has to raise money in order to put the event on, there will be a partnership included, not only just the facility usage, but the goal is that there's also a donation provided to Brownsburg Community Corporation, especially with the tennis program. There's plenty of volunteer or partnership opportunities with the Brownsburg Tennis Club. Right now, no disruption for the schools, solely on the tennis complex. So while they're re parking and such,

35
00:21:52.160 --> 00:22:25.260
it's kinda nice that the tennis complex is now kind of on its own. So that way, we, you know, it's not really gonna impact any any sort of school parking. We've ensured to communicate things like west drop off and pick up lines and traffic and things, so they will make sure and plan around that. But for the most part, events won't start on each day as far as matches until ten or eleven. And the last event, usually about 06:30 or seven in the evening, depending on, you know, if we get into some I don't know the proper tennis term, Gordon here, but some overtime or extra sets. That could extend a little bit later in the evening, but we will make sure and communicate with our,

36
00:22:26.060 --> 00:22:59.625
with our friends and community at Hunters Cove to ensure that they are also aware of of this particular event. And, there will be some regional media press and coverage on this and hopefully a multiyear commitment. This is something that really that, our that those would want to bring more of the professional tennis back to, Central Indiana, and they feel like this is a great opportunity, especially with our facility. And so we will have vendors on-site. I wanna make sure that I specifically talk about, some of the vendors here. We, we'll bring to you in June. One of the requirements to host this is,

37
00:23:00.185 --> 00:23:36.105
the vendors will have alcohol sales, at the event. And so this is not necessarily something that will be, our kids selling alcohol or will be part of our Brownsburg Tennis Club. These are the outside vendors coming in. And so in order for us to do that, right now, we would not need an alcohol license because we're not the one selling it. The vendors will house that, but our policy states that there's no alcohol on premises where students are present. And so in June, we will come to you with a resolution asking for a, just what's the word I'm looking for? Just the opportunity to to save during this event only and only this event on

38
00:23:36.105 --> 00:24:09.870
this site. We're very specific that we will have the opportunity to do that in order to ensure that we can host this event. There will be beer and wine, and there will be a specialty beverage as well available, but it's not there will not be a full service bar, opportunity here. So we were, made sure and check on that today, and that's the confirmation that I received back. So, wanted to just be open and honest with that, with you and with time to think about that and process that before we come back to you in June with the, potential resolution to ask for that exemption. So, happy to answer any other questions. I will, kinda show, obviously,

39
00:24:09.870 --> 00:24:43.330
here's, the tennis complex facility. This is the presentation that was given to the, the ATP. They can kinda see that the parking, they really like that. Obviously, the number of courts that we have, the bleachers that we have in place, and that there there's lighting there. There will be some things brought in, some high top tables, some additional bleachers just to for capacity reasons. And then over by the the complex there where the building is kinda more of the the spot for the players, there will be a warm up tent. We will have to bring in a trailer for showers because we do not have showers in that. It's just a changing room,

40
00:24:43.630 --> 00:25:17.705
in that locker room. And, hospitality every area again just for the players as they enter. And then hangout area for hospitality, on the end there for our patrons who are attending the event. And so, again, warm up and showers. You can see that's where the trailers will be located, players' entrance. And then there will be a couple trailers there just for, like, the ATP professionals and things. But, not something that'll be a major inconvenience and, again, will not impact the school day. And, I will say coach Fields is especially excited about this and promises that he, will make sure that everything goes according to plan because the multi years,

41
00:25:18.025 --> 00:25:55.115
after this kinda falls on his shoulders. So, again, just wanted to be upfront and honest with these, opportunities here, give plenty of advance notice, and happy to answer any other questions you might have at this time. The funds that come from this go to the athletic department. Where do they go to? So, I'm the facility rental that would be a a part of this would go into the operations fund, as all facility rentals do. But I think the donation would probably through the, tennis club and and athletics in order because they are the ones that's essentially trying to arrange all the volunteers to assist. And so, yes, that'll help our,

42
00:25:55.275 --> 00:26:33.500
tennis program out. The community based, like, extra events they said they were gonna provide, how soon in advance would the community know in order to actually participate? That's a really good question. One that I'm not sure at this point in time what that would look like. I just have the the bullet points of something we can find out. We'll ask, coach fields exactly what that might look like. K. Do we anticipate that the courts over at West would be used, the other ones? Yeah. I right now, they think that the the site that we have in place here, which should be enough. We've realized that West could be utilized, especially, you know,

43
00:26:33.500 --> 00:27:06.310
we've got middle school tennis as well, that will be in season during that time, as well. The high school, Coach Fields is aware of that, and thinks that they can just kind of all be one giant happy family, with the 21 courts that we have. So he is not worried about that. And and if he's not worried, because he'd be the one that I would be the one to come and ask, hey. Are you gonna be okay with this? So he feels very confident, and he's actually excited about the opportunity because he thinks that would involve more, pro player and our high school kid interaction opportunities, when they're over there practicing. So he he's he wants everybody on that one side, if possible, just to have that opportunity.

44
00:27:07.330 --> 00:27:46.055
I think that we can use West if needed, but, I do think the 21 Court should be able to host everything. What else? Okay. Thank you. Yeah. Supplemental fees, mister Hacker. Thank you very much. This something that we're looking at, again, is kind of some advanced notice. Not no action tonight, more just communication, obviously. Something we would wanna be bring back to you in June as we work through this. As you recall, probably, I think, four years ago, our opportunity to charge what most people refer to as book rental, or the curriculum material fees, the state came in and said, schools can no longer do that.

45
00:27:46.915 --> 00:28:20.415
And ultimately, that we've got a reimbursement. Now that that dollar amount is included just in what's called the basic grant. It is located inside the education fund. And ultimately, the legislation realized that the dollar amount that we are receiving for that is simply not enough to cover the costs. Especially at the secondary levels when, you know, there's a lot more consumable items that it takes to interact with the curriculum. And that has been a detriment to schools, especially in current financial times. So we did have something positive there in '25 past, so, HEA 1002 on,

46
00:28:20.655 --> 00:28:53.720
which is adjusting the law and the curriculum material fees. So while districts are still required to provide curriculum materials like books, computers, those types of things at no cost, those will remain the property of the district. But we are now allowed to have what's called a supplemental fee, and that would be some things like consumable items that aren't necessarily part of the curriculum, but maybe the activities of so that are that are being utilized in the classroom in order to teach the content. Consumable items definitely vary from grade level to grade level and course to course. And at the high school and secondary level would really be dependent on the student's

47
00:28:53.720 --> 00:29:27.230
individual class schedule. Pretty much all districts are moving in this direction as we think about and a couple have already moved in in this year. They were got ahead of the game. But, we wanted to make sure and and really work through this with our treasurers and our building leaders and our curriculum department. And so and we know that every every HCC school will be doing this as well. So we're looking on exactly what what the fees will look like. We think that it'll fall somewhere between 30 and $50 per student. So, again, what we think is probably 30 more at the elementary, maybe up to 50 at the high school level. Again, that's gonna be dependent on the class schedule.

48
00:29:27.610 --> 00:30:02.805
But, those are things that we will now be able to charge back from, and it can that would take some of the Pride Relief in their education fund to to continue to provide those materials. So the teachers are not trying to go out and purchase those things on their own, or schools are looking for other avenues in order to provide those. So we really think this will continue to allow the opportunities in the classroom, us to get the, you know, what we call the good stuff, keep getting the frogs and things, for for the, science department and the labs especially. So again, that is a range we'll continue to to to identify exactly what we can and cannot charge for, and then have those specific numbers to you in June.

49
00:30:02.865 --> 00:31:02.555
But wanted to give you, as much open, and be open and give much notice to this as possible. And really happy to answer any questions that you might have. So besides the science frogs, what other examples can you give? Let's see here. Good grief. I think some oftentimes would be some of the paper supplies, some of the Corey, I will actually turn this over to you if you don't mind. Okay. When will the fees be collected? Very similar to what the the old fees used to be right at the beginning of the school year. Okay. And parents would be notified shortly after the board the June board meeting?

50
00:31:02.555 --> 00:31:51.360
Mhmm. Yep. Anything else? No? Okay. Thank you. Thank you. First reading of the boost handbook, mister Hacker. Yeah. Still up. Provided in the board packet tonight was the, boost handbook. So this is first reading. Second reading will be in June, as well as recommended for approval, but happy to, answer any questions you might have. Very minimal changes to Booth's Handbook. That program is thriving and, doing well. Very, very excited for that. No no no official action tonight. Just if you have any questions. Yeah. No questions. Okay. First reading of the teacher and support staff handbooks. Mister Hacker. Very similar here.

51
00:31:51.600 --> 00:32:35.045
You provided copies of the updated handbook for next school year, for teacher and support staffs. And, miss Gordon is also here to assist with maybe any questions you might have. But at this time, open for questions. Anything you might see. Thank you. First reading of quite a few policies. Doctor Jessel. Thank you. Since this seems to be the mister Hacker show tonight, I'm gonna take my time with this. As we've discussed the last several meetings, we are looking to transfer our policies. Rather than just say what each of the numbers are, I'm going to give the titles of each of these,

52
00:32:35.345 --> 00:33:14.360
because I know that that has been requested in the past. We have policies on whistleblower protection, reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect, school wellness, distracted driving, responsible use of technology, communicable diseases, civility and decorum, school board leadership and support, membership, board member ethics, entrance requirements, homeless students, attendance and academic engagement, drug prevention and drug testing, school sponsored publications, production, search and seizure, withdrawal from school, board superintendent relationships, and then personal background checks, references, and mandatory reporting of convictions of substantiated child abuse and arrests.

53
00:33:14.740 --> 00:33:56.615
Again, I think it's important to say that these policies, while these are numerous, the number of policies that we had before that go into this were even a greater number. So, this is a first reading, so don't need any action at this time, but I'm happy to answer questions. Questions? Okay. Thank you. We have no comments from patrons this evening. At this time, we will, present the consent agenda. Approval of the minutes. Doctor Jessup? Perfect. At this time, ask for approval of the April 13 business meeting, approval of claims, and the superintendent's report.

54
00:33:56.675 --> 00:34:46.650
Do I have a motion? So moved. Is there a second? I second. All those in favor? Aye. Opposed? Motion passes. Approval of claims? Oh, that's all part of it? That's it? Okay. Mhmm. They're old business? No. And there's nothing? New business. Recommendation to approve meal prices, mister Hacker. Thank you. As you'll see in the board packet, the, you'll see the current and proposed prices for breakfast, lunch at the elementary level, and, also lunch at the, six to 12 level. So current year, the dollar amount for breakfast k 12 is $2.55.

55
00:34:46.650 --> 00:35:22.995
We're asking a for a 15¢ increase to $2.70. Grades k five lunch from $3.55 to $3.70. Again, another 15¢ increase. And for grade six twelve lunch, going from $3.70 to $3 and 85. Again, increase of 15¢. Again, supply costs have increased at a market rate from last year continue to be a little unstable. So that's the reason for the increase. And so really the well, the nutrition service fund is on solid footing. As we can if we continue to operate at the current prices, we feel like there that could impact deficits and things.

56
00:35:23.235 --> 00:35:58.765
And as a reminder, the nutrition services fund does is really its own self sustaining fund within the, business within our, school corporation. It does not receive any additional support from the education or operations funds. So we gotta make sure that the money that that is received in here is enough to sustain it. So, that's the reason for the increases, and, that's the proposed amount. I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have. We still are using the co op for them in our, like Sure. Yep. Alright. Yep. We do that in a lot of our different pro procurement areas. Mhmm. We don't report on that. What's the balance of that fund?

57
00:35:58.765 --> 00:36:36.480
Do you know? Not off the top of my head. So I can find out that information for you. Yes. But there I will say there are limits in the amount of cash balance you can keep in that fund as well. And then, again, knowing that the transfer from indirect costs, that's another issue that we that's helped support the operations fund as well. So those two things are very, very important to us. But, it is right now over I don't even wanna wanna take a guess. So I will find that information out and come back to that in June. Students that are receiving free and reduced lunch, is that, increase that we receive proportional?

58
00:36:37.980 --> 00:37:18.185
The the the reimbursement amount is determined by the, by the federal government. And so that rate does not necessarily increase at the same rate as what we are this is only for, like, a la carte and our, lunches that we can charge for. Thank you. So, mhmm, the federal will determine that. Thank you. Yep. Do we have a recommendation to approve bill prices? Is there a second? Second. All those in favor? Aye. Opposed? Motion passes. Recommendation to approve resolution to participate in 2026 Indiana Bond Bank advanced funding program and to authorize anticipation warrants for the 2026 budget.

59
00:37:18.185 --> 00:37:55.540
Mister Hacker? Good. So, this is typically something that we look to, do in November. Because, really, for the past several years, this has impacted debt service, meaning that we get two property tax settlements, one in December and one in June. And our debt payments have not always followed suit of our when we received the revenue, so this has been a cash flow loan. Actually, we worked through that this year and thought that we've no longer needed to utilize the the anticipation tax warrant through the Indiana Bond Bank. But as you are well aware, that the current financial situation that we are in,

60
00:37:55.540 --> 00:38:32.280
while we've made several cuts and things for next school year, those most majority of those cuts will not take effect until we get to August, once at the conclusion of this current pay, pay the salary what's okay. What's the word I'm looking for? Contract. Thank you. Good grief. So once the contract's up and the majority of these folks fall off, that's when we really begin to see the savings hit our cash flow. So the Indian bond bank offers this program. So what we're doing is looking at, just to help support the cash flow needs and the operations fund specifically.

61
00:38:32.885 --> 00:39:05.995
And essentially, what will happen is they will will close on a bond that'll come into our operations fund here. And then when we get to December, when we receive our final property tax allotment, that we will repay that. There is a small interest fee, but the interest can also be paid out of debt service. So, that's so it's kind of a wash in the operations fund. Again, this is not additional money. This is money that just helps us get through the times until our revenue catches or the drop off in the expenses. And, again, we will repay this in the same calendar year,

62
00:39:05.995 --> 00:39:43.595
so for 2026 only. And so we have participated in this program for many years, but it's been in debt service, but now this won't be the operations fund. So, need your approval to participate in that program at this time as well as you this will kind of adjust the 2026 budget, which is wrapped up into this resolution as well. President. Second. All those in favor? Aye. Opposed? Motion passes. Thank you. Superintendent comments. Doctor Jessup. Thank you. For as much as I'd like to give mister Hacker a hard time, I do wanna thank him for all of his work tonight. Certainly a lot of information that he shared. I did wanna let,

63
00:39:43.835 --> 00:40:19.370
everyone know that we do have a meeting scheduled with the town of Brownsburg to talk about, how we can work together on some facility usage, which I think is a really, has the potential to be a very good partnership, between us and the town. And as you may recall, that was one of my goals, when I applied for this position was how we couldn't improve, our relationship and really be seen as a a very cohesive team, with our partners with the town. Certainly love to celebrate our students, in all that they do, but especially our HOSA and DECA students. So thanks, miss Murphy, for bringing them here.

64
00:40:19.370 --> 00:40:58.715
Appreciate that. Also want to do a quick congratulations to our support stem staff member of the year, McCall Baquith, who is an instructional assistant at Brown Elementary, and our teacher of the year from Delaware Trail Elementary, Olivia Orlando. So we had a great reception last week during teachers teacher appreciation week, celebrating all of our teacher and support staff members of the year from all of our buildings and departments. But, special shout out to those two. Is that it? Thank you. Board member comments. Doctor. Fridgee. Okay. Okay. Again, congratulations to all the students and staff and all their successes.

65
00:40:58.935 --> 00:41:40.080
Of course, it's always a need to see them come up here, especially these two nice organizations. Keep up the good work. And also just wish everybody a smooth and safe, transition to the end of the school year. And Can't wait to see how it all ends up. I, too, would like to congratulate our HOSA and DECA state champions. No offense, but that's really my favorite part of these meetings. I'm gonna get to accommodations section. I'm not sure. I didn't really get all the things they were doing, but, you know, it was really impressive. Good luck to our spring sports as they, finish up their regular seasons and head into tournament play.

66
00:41:40.700 --> 00:42:16.670
Also wanna congratulate all our retiring teachers. I'm not I don't have their names all in front of me, but there's there's several of them who have, really given the school corporation, you know, a lot of a lot of years of excellent service. And, really looking forward to the commencement ceremony. That was a lot of fun last year, my first time, and I really enjoyed that. So looking forward to that as well. Oh, and I should say the ATP Challenger seventy five. I mean, I'm a tennis guy. That's, that's gonna be really cool, and I hope, I hope we pull that off with flying colors and can can repeat that.

67
00:42:17.050 --> 00:42:57.485
So Congratulations. There were so many kids that went to HOSA and DECA, to Atlanta. So more than what we saw here that just busloads. So they have an amazing time, and congratulations to all of them that made it that far, especially the first and second place winners, thirteen days and counting. I think we're all a little exhausted at this point in the year. So thank you for all the hard work and just getting through these last thirteen days, and going strong. So until Kenneth Smith, thanks. I echo what everyone said. I think that, as the school year wraps up, there's always a lot of exciting things happening.

68
00:42:58.665 --> 00:43:31.850
The teacher of the year support staff member of the year banquet was amazing. It was so great to hear the principals get to brag on their staff and, always a good time. I did also want to shout out the boost, staff. It was really exciting to see the boost paper work that those students have the ability to have drop in or, you know, single day or multi day, care this summer. And parents don't have to worry about availability that they're that's fully staffed and that's handled. And I'm glad that that's something that our district offers.

69
00:43:32.390 --> 00:44:06.870
I also, there's been a lot of conversation in the media about different districts and their needs dealing with senate bill one and some of these issues. And again, I want to, express appreciation to our administration and staff for all the hard work they've done behind the scenes to communicate with our our teachers, our staff, our community members to stay on top of that, to try and do what's best for Brownsburg. And, also, thanks to the RDC and town council for being open to conversations to try and move forward in the best way for,

70
00:44:07.330 --> 00:44:24.365
our community, our school families, and our students. So, it's it's a lot of work that's been put in, but I continue to maintain that Brownsburg's done it the right way. So thank you for all that hard work. Anybody else? Alright. Can I have a motion to adjourn? Motion. Second. Second. And meeting adjourned.
