continued efforts in fostering a supportive and successful environment for students staff and community members we're going to show you a video identifying the exact piece that we want to share which is the academic alignment so Sam thank you so much for pressing play hi I'm here witha our assist principal um and we' like to know how did uh chance to get integrated into academic activities and what Chang you see so this academic challenges are tied to our team Wars a concept uh that the universal team came up with during our champ summer Retreat um the team Wars have motivated students and staff to demonstrate positive academic behaviors in addition to our already established behavoral expectations while participating in a friendly competition we're joined out with Mrs Lisa Hayward and Mrs Kim stano memb of our academic champ sub commmittee hello question for you what surprise you most about the students response to this challeng um well I think the biggest um shock was just you know articles of the stud spread in I think as a school we've read over 24,000 Min articles um which I don't think has ever been done before so that's great that they were super engaged in the in the program anding my [Music] news Mrs how do you feel this academic challenge influence our sport culture and the student attitude toward I think they just prompted not just language arts but all for Content Spees language art social study science to all get involved in Reading More in the classroom um the whole component of Team wars and them trying to earn points for their team was such a good motivator and it really brought everyone together all the teachers to asking like what's our update the kids kept asking so it was just such a great way to get everyone motivated about reading which sometimes not all kids are motivated to do so it was nice to see that all four content areas got involved after fantastic congratulations thank you I'm here with my friend Carlos and Carlos we want to know how did this contest help excite and motivate you to read more newss so I wanted to be in a war to read the most AR my class is my teut going to reward the number one leer in our I ended up being the number one leer in the history that helped my team win team war and I also end up that's amazing car great work keep on the good word and keep on reading I'm here with my good friend mud another one of our amazing students and we want to know M how did this contest help motivate [Music] you nice very good and how did this affect your language arts average how many articles did you read that's amazing high five thank you buddy so I'm your Mr Roo one of our ELA teachers Mr Roo what was your go for this may news Challenge and how did you envision it helping the students May news is a great program that used in Daily uh activities uh it's a program that encourages students to read nonfiction articles and take comprehension questions so Envision them reading the Articles answering questions really learning about current events in a lot of different areas in s and by having program I really encourag them to work hard and and learn at the same time so the contest was a lot of being motivating it was a lot motivating teachers got into it as well and a lot of fun for them to see who did more and who got the most out of it awesome thank you [Music] Mr we did have to overcome some challenges with this academic contest that kind of took us by surprise when we started to track the number of Articles sprad and equ passed by all the students at CCMS we realized that we had to customize our data reports on the Mayan website this meant that mrso and I had to manually create groups within Mayon and then add every student to the appropriate group with three grade grade levels four teams per grade and roughly 100 students per team this was quite the undertaking but in overcoming this challenge we are now prepared for any future Mayan contest related to team Morris this [Music] year one of my favorite moments that came from this may on contest was that we were able to individually reward one student per grade level who read the most articles within their grade they each received a token to the vending machine which is always super exciting for them and a free bookmark they were all smiles at the end of the day I want to thank you for watching our video tonight and letting us share the success we've had here at CC CCMS this year with our change program particularly thanks to our academic sub committee teachers and Stor and Mr can have done this without you but most importantly we thank all our students and staff for their unwavering support and cooperation in our Champs program it's because of you and the vision you have for your students and the vision we have for our school that we can be so proud of what we've done this school year so far we look forward to more academic and behavioral challenges that will benefit our school the greater cots and community and the framework of the tsis initiative thank you and good [Music] night ladies and gentlemen year in and year out we've talked about pbsis and what it means in our schools and one of the things one of the last things I promise I I'll say is we talk about how we take care of our students and staff in our in our one uh Clifton Community this is the bridge that we want to bring to you so that you understand that the importance of working and loving our students and showing them um the behavior supports that are available and how it impacts their academic performance one of the top predictors for students academic performance is the way they feel when they enter our buildings and we take that to a a great degree um thank you so much Christopher Columbus Middle School for the
