especially helpful with her little brother there was a time in the beginning of the year that she saw him in the hall and just wanted to make sure he was okay it does not just have to be her brother it could be any student or staff member she's always thinking about how she can help someone and make the school Community a friendly place we are truly thankful for Felicia and now to our eighth she will help any teacher no matter if she has had the teacher or if they're just someone here for the day she's one of those kids that when a teacher out they would write ask Ariana if you have any questions because she's so helpful she has helped out in the main office dur morning announcements as well we are thankful for Ariana and finally Eric schaer Eric is very helpful to his friends and also teachers Eric HS in a quiet way sometimes with a student in this class or another grade is nervous about something he steps in and helps he's he does not broadcast a lot of what he's doing but his hopefulness does not go unnoticed there have been times where he helped or supported students who wanted to report something but are not sure how he is a friend to all and we are thankful for ER thank you everybody up for group shot picture anybody who receiv like to inv everybody out to our group shop with Mr Santiago and at this time we'll take a brief recess probably about 3 to 4 minutes after that group shop we'll go on with the business portion of the agenda all right we'll call the meeting back to order this time I'll open up the meeting for public comment on agenda items public participation in the Board of Education meeting governed by policy 0167 the Board of Education wel comments the public concerns about the school district should be addressed to the appropriate staff members prior to bringing them before the board also please note that the board may be hearing your concerns for the first time and may not be able to address these concerns during the meeting an online form for public comment has been posted to the website Arlene there's no comments on that form correct okay no comments on the online form does anybody in the audience have a comment on agenda items on everybody rush up seeing none we'll close public comment on agenda items and I'll turn the meeting over to Dr Fitz for the superintendent report hello turn on Okay thank you very very much let me acknowledge uh Mr Miller who is here with me with us tonight I pass your photo each day and as I look at that photo I think about the long years of service that you provided to this District I'd like to personally thank you for leaving us in good shape and we're continuing to try to maintain at the level that you established today that takes me to my meeting now I want to say to the parents he the president of those who are not here is to say that I welcome the opportunity to talk about your children they are good children okay they are great children they have a lot of potential and what this school district is trying to do is to give them the opportunity to fulfill that dream and to fulfill their Vision let's take a look at what we're doing you can see that right now we're working on safety issues for our school district we're working with a fire department to say help us to find an external space that in case disaster should come to our community is that we have a place to safeguard our children so we will be practicing with the fire department of walking up the street to the fire department house there and we will be transmitting the kids from here there and there back here the second thing that we're working on we're working on a lot of compliance issues in this district and I need your help to help me to work on these compliance issues I have to hire a large number of instructional aids to work in the school district some because my turnover is pretty high so if you know someone who's interested in working parttime three and 3/4 of an hour half time a full six hours or six and a six and a half hours refer them to us because I need them to help me deal with cafeteria Duty playground Duty in-class support for for youngsters as outline in their I or in class support for teachers because I might be reaching a size number that the state requires me to put an instructional Aid in in the classroom now let me go to the next piece of my report every 3 years a school district will be visited by the county superintendent of schools and his or her staff they come in and they do basically an inspection some of the inspection is done physically and some of the inspection is done paperless is that we have to submit documents mentation and it must be submitted on an ongoing and a regular basis that's how they derive their scores what we have here is what we call the qac report would you publish that qac report for me please and they're going to look at five areas and you must obtain a score of about 80 and above to fall into the satisfactory category we do not this school district did not achieve all of those errors but it's not impossible that they cannot achieve them and so we're set out in the next several months to submit a a a a a a recommendation plan to them of how we will do it which they will come back and visit us in 6 months interval possible until we achieve the kind of results that we need to achieve let me talk a little bit about those programs instruction program a student a school district must meet academic standards for a kids they must meet it is that we have to look at how many kids are failing how many kids are succeeding and how they're doing on State and National test administered by the state so that requires us to have a good instructional staff a well balanc instructional staff okay a well- trained uh instructional staff a credentialed instruction staff so we've got to make some improvements in that area and you can look at the agenda past agendas and the present agendas and you can see that we're serious and we're conscientiously working to correct these deficiencies that that led us to this results our physical management we must be accountable for all of the funds that come through this school district we must have a balanced a balanced budget okay uh we cannot run a deficit budget in this school district or in any school district so we have to make sure that we maintain and updated standard operating procedures for all of our business functions and we bring those business functions to your attention as we pass resolutions to spend money for whatever the issues might be we are in we are in line to do that our order to will be coming in we will be getting a report from the order to auditor to see where the deficiences are and we have to make take corrected action plan to address that area the next area that you need to look at is governor in the governor's area we have the capacity for the board to have direct oversight of us to look at what we're doing and how we're doing it and are we doing it at a satisfactory and a third level we can do that we will do that and we'll continue to make improvements on those areas the last area operations we have to make sure that we look at how the school district is running and operating on a daily monthly weekly and yearly basis we have to make sure that we providing appropriate transportation services for our youngsters that we're providing a good Health Service program for our youngsters okay we we we are in pretty good shape there but we got to we got to tighten up on some of our forms and procedures that we are using and we got to get more information up on the website up there so that parents citizens and everyone is informed about what's going on across our district I want to tell you this board has been extremely supportive in helping us to accomplish these things over time we were successful in Personnel but we've done a lot of work background work in Personnel is that we have now and identifying making sure that we have certified teachers in the right area for the right program that they are working with okay we got to make sure that there are certificated in there we got we got to do our evaluations in in a properly timed fashion using the Danielson model that we're doing in in in this area as well as doing that while our also our administrative staff if you follow our board agenda you can see how we work to address deficits and deficiencies you can see right now that because we have this report in our possession we we have until about January 30 to get our corrective action plan in to County and to be approved we you can see that we're taking steps to acquire expertise to work with us to put this plan together along with our own inhouse first people to get this plan together and to get these areas addressed to satisfy the state so that they can come back and visit us on a maybe a six month basis to look at how doing and to make changes when where necessary so on a whole I'm not discouraged and you're not to be discouraged okay and this is not about placing blames and faults this is about correcting what has been identified for us and continuing to go forward and to give our kids the best opportunity that we can afford thank you this time I'd like a motion on the superintendent report for items 1 through six but we are omitting item [Music] five moved by Mr s seconded by Miss schinman are there any questions or comments okay M Schon um Dr Fitz we had met with the count um school board and all their staff uh that last um teleconference uh we had talked about um working more collaborative with the county superintendent school's office and I know you just said right now 6 months but I would ask if you could please consider something every 3 months given the feedback that we got in May and again in I believe it was July um I would think if we work more collaboratively with the county uh superintendent of schools um that that will help us in all of our areas moving forward so if we just think about that and talk about it maybe again um it was very beneficial and there are monitor anyway so get more together we on the website can we please have the sporting events um there's no schedule uh and um it's great to come see the kids um can't tell you uh how awesome it was with he hockey and soccer um was wonderful and the attendance was exceptional but to have that on the website would be great great appreciated thank you are there any other questions or comments on the superintendent report just one more number six um is that $10,000 have to be allotted to a specific area that's from the spell conference from the uh from the insurance company and we were the district that got the most money congratulations so what so what does that go to fund for safety um we have to really have to work on it yeah congratulations congratulations are there any other questions or comments on the resolution under the superintendent report seeing none this is a voice vote so all those in favor please signify by saying I I oppose abstain motion carries budget and finance section a motion is requested to approve items 1 through6 in the budget and finance section moved by Mr vargan seconded by Mr dancer are there any questions or comments any budget and finance section I have a question on number five go ahead number five is the resolution will approve uh Mr sanago to attend H training really from um when we had talked uh ear you know the previous meeting the school coun get involved with him in the investigations so then you in turn Mr STI you come back and train the counselors I give them any information that has changed from the state anything like that so it's a continual process and this is nothing this is something we always do so it's not new right that's the hierarchy for public purposes and then I just had one more question under the um the bond piece why does it start in 2026 and not 25 that's the payments yes so there's it's always a year after the project iset starting August pay 25 I'm sorry I guess I was under the section one piece under section two G delivery yeah that's um it looks like's a payment the follow thank you so much it's pretty cool that we're passing the bond thing here and putting that on the agenda when we have Mr Miller and the uh and the audience here who went out how many times for that one referendum six Wood Lu we got it done in one for this group prair so I I admire that persistence there getting that done in fact uh the architect had a lot of uh great things to say about that entire process when he came and did the Public Presentation on this particular referendum at that time are there any other questions or comments on Budget Finance see none this is a roll call Mr yes Mr yes Mr varg yes M yes Mr J yes Mr C yes M Mr yes motion passes thank you operation in facilities motion is requested to approve the report on maintenance activities exited h on your drivs moved by Mr dancer second seconded by Mr are there any questions or comments on the maintenance activities report talk about Boer a boiler yeah because he a p a pump on the boiler was Monday let me just one you said it said a boiler up and running a wall that boiler wasn't needed until now is that the item on there you're talking about so I'm assuming you just turned the boiler on while you turn the boiler on because it was in a hibernation State obviously there was something so it needed General but I think in last it said put on our agenda we need to consider the two boilers are 15 20 years old and you need to put them consider I think is that what you're also referencing to that's it's okay but so here's my question now so I guess that's something once we get the roof going we'll have some type of fiscal management plan to fix that criteria like do we have prices to start working on that boiler I'm assuming it's the boiler at peon that we're talking about from two from last one I'm not sure okay he's checking with Public Service there might be a program where public service will pay 80% to the Clos of boiler good any other questions or comments on the operation and Facilities seeing none this a Voice vote all those in favor please signify by saying I I I oppos abstain motion carries for liaison reports uh Riverside as me I had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for their new Wing which was part of their bond referendum last week uh prior to their board meeting serving there uh beautiful addition there with some small group instruction rooms science labs and additional classrooms I believe they said that the four class will be in that particular wing and they look forward to opening that in the coming school year they also have a brand new playground there that they did coming on and all that work uh you know really was amazing I forwarded out M schin wies njsba bcba report to the board is there any questions on that or anything to add Jo in question I have question um one of the things that came twice um both in the uh the school board association's uh director's meeting and again in the delegates meeting was advocating for each um School Board to contact their municipal government and have a seat at the table for the fourth round of affordable hous so I'm requesting please um respectfully that we talk about this at some point and um do that it's very it certainly happened before with I think the biggest was River's Edge and the anticipation and this is round four the L is in a very good position but keeping that dialogue going is important yeah and I know that um Mr B Mr Templeton also mentioned it at a prior board meeting about uh the preparations for that maybe that's something we can collaborate with the township on obviously after reorganizations happened in both organizations in January um I I'd like to set something up with that I think that would be a good idea the other uh the other uh topic was just um happened actually this week was um talking uh there's definitely going to be a policy for the Department of Education on cell phone and looking at our um our policy there certainly is one but the rumor in talk is there's not going to be individual policies it's going to be the department of education's policy and just follow so maybe we can be proactive and you know make our amendments and I I'll pick you back my last uh state njpsa was geared around State's implementation of District policy on cell phones and they gave me three or four links about creating your own District so I'll gladly forward that over to you as soon as I can right Township committee Miss Stone so the last Township committee meeting um the township did move to go forward with plan to purchase the 401 free property and Mike tumbleton was honored for his 18 years of CER on the township um there were discussions about election issues um those of us who voted here in town had a lot of problems with the new system um so there was conversation about um what it the machines what it training um and there is um a county group that's looking into that issue I didn't have that problem because I used it at the the um the previous election but I knew that it was going to be an issue um the township also talked about how they cleared the most recent round of affordable housing so they look really good going to 2025 the next deadline is January 31 um um and they're going to be discussing obligation numbers um via binding resolutions uh the last call Le pickup has occurred um like you said Santa will be around on Saturday the 21st starting at 11:00 a.m. and you can follow Santa Claus um VI the Santa tractor at Del fire.com uh this Friday the 20th is the last uh time that you can register your home for the best decorated house complex the judging is going to be on Saturday um The Christmas Village open up on the 15th it was a tree lighting and the carriage rides um the township reorganization meeting is going to be Thursday the 2nd of January at 700 p.m. um and Christmas tree collection is going to start the second week of January which is good I happen yet um and as far as the police report goes which is my favorite part of Township um in December there were 15 cases open there were 565 calls for a total of 10,957 calls for the police this there were 42 motor vehicle stops on this year there have been 1,390 they've issued 11 sues this month 642 and there was also a conversation about drones and if you see a drone and you have any questions and you want to report it you can call 1800 call FBI thank you a motion is requested under Personnel to approve items a through J move by m Lin seconded by Mr SE are there any questions or comments on the Personnel section okay see none this is a roll call vote Mr janer yes Mr M yes Mr V yes m l yes Mr J yes Mr saor yes M Stone Mr Hopkins yes motion passes all right old business I'm looking right down to you goe so um uh from our this meeting we had talked about um the State Testing comparison presentation and thinking more into the data looking at macro versus micro so keeping that on our radar um we had asked if could police have the access testing results um for the I think it's appropriate or proper to say non English speaking students um I have my regular uh question about committees at our last report uh a letter had been sent to staff and admin evidently to be part of the committee so I'm asking what we're doing with that uh let me I've talked to the staff the staff is in to support of being available to work with any committees that you establish as as a pool uh I think that a good starting point could be uh January you know January 1st that up committees and U we're we're ready to go they review usually that's ensuring all that and then the last part I had we had talked about um at our last meeting um and Dr fit speaks to what you were talking about earlier was uh uh looking at shared services um at our November meeting we talked about the U the language needs of our children that do not speak English and see if we can contact we mentioned Riverside to could uh form a collaborative partnership um to see you know if they can help us with that need which goes to say you know that could also continue with gifted and talented um whatever else that was definitely talk about so we need to follow up on that if I can speak to that I think it's a good idea to talk about shared service is because you are much too small to have all of these services on a full-time basis okay say for instance like gifted and tality program that can probably be like a two up to about a 3 not a full time world languages okay a required program that could be from about 2th up to about three uh a 35th and it goes on I would like to ask this board to allow us to draw up an agreement that we can send out C of blanch to any District within about a 20 minutes driving kind of this school so a person could get from one school down here and we just tell them look we look we're interested in shared services and we'd like to engage in a conversation and be in a communication I'd like to go fishing on that topic and see if I can get some bites the last two things that we talked about your old business was the status of the board self evaluation and then I had um a question about what is the procedure within the school board to evaluate our goals and objectives for that year I think we should have reestablish those goals and objectives at the January meeting um we had the goals and objectives that we collaborated with in njsba I'll bring those to the table forward those to everybody um and we would work off of that in addition to working and collaborating with our CSA Dr quit on that did we get this the board self evaluation I know I asked our REM we have to get in contact with njsba for the superintendent posting that's going to be going live tomorrow anyway so ask them to open it up when we tell them to go live thank you thank you all right uh any items on new business public is so now that we have the grant um the safety Grant I would like to um suggest that we consider adding some sidewalks to the West this campus we have children and families who are walking to school in the morning and walking in because they don't have a sidewalk that allow them access to the connect the sidewalk here letter so what what is your what are you asking I would like to consider adding some additional sidewalks the so I'm bring this is my last somebody from here possibly take I'll definitely bring it up there um but I would like for us to consider we just have some f for sa that there's a safety concern and we just got some safety and wanted to bring up because we have our Junior High School students on this end of the build and there is not enough there and some so I want to kind of pick you back on what this Stone say so that's a grant we need to figure out if we're allow to share or compete not compete but maybe match with the Township but I would also like to consider the idea of I know Riverside has done that and they're pretty effective but the idea of raised platform crosswalks between two or three of our school districts because of the crosswalk situation where closer down by the firehouse and in one I know Matt harlet he has gone active about like the speed limit on this road about how yeah it's 35 in one spot then comes 40 and then people people look at 40 and think 50 but the idea of doing exactly what shik is saying of of maybe a sidewalk but then look at those three or four raised but now we're talking Burlington Road because that's a County facility see what that means when it comes to that Grant as well because we might have to deal with the township and we might have to deal with the county entity so another pie of new business okay um given the tragedy Burlington City um with the passing of a Crossing C and what Ryan and Shen are talking about with Burlington Avenue and knowing that this Township just spent $25,000 on a traffic study I'm asking if this board would entertain the advocacy with the county U to change the speed limit from the bridge to Beverly and reduce it um very property sit back from that room it goes from 25 to 15 from 35 to 25 35 to 40 and since this town seems to like to use Facebook as its voice of communication um time and time again the police are being Blan for what they don't do and right across the street we have speed thing that you know tells so is that something that's ever done and advocated from schol dist or do we Advocate that with the municipal government we can certainly have a letter drafted and have it on our um agenda for discussion and subsequent approval if we were to ever send a letter as an entire board but there's nothing stopping individual board members on advocating and writing their own letters on that behalf as Citizens as well it's almost like when the child dies in school from a drug driving accident you remember for that little and you know that gentleman saved at least six lives and God bless him and taking that tragedy and then applying it for something that could obviously be another potential tragedy and especially with the incredible dedication of our Crossing Mar um that I personally think are not respected as it should be um so thank I need to find out by one guy hand it's at the front up here but he waves every single time I don't know that guy he makes me smile I don't know what it is he makes me smile um somebody needs to tell me thank you for here get me in touch with he he makes my day sometimes just the way he talks and the way he seems to know everybody in every all right is there any other new business
