##VIDEO ID:hgkwNEXiMEQ## because of theze e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e right all right good evening I'd like to call the August 13th meeting of the Edison Public Library board to order let the minutes reflect that it is 7 o' please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance flag of the United States of America stand on the same page it's over why why was that yes you are thank you all right as required by the open public meetings Act of 1975 adequate notice of this uh scheduled meeting has been provided to the public by notices given to the home News Tribune Star lger and Sentinel posted on the library bulletin boards website and given to the C Township clerk's office roll call please uh miss me here O'Neal here miss Krauss here Miss Pam here Mr de Pasqual excused absence Mr Patel here miss ly here Mr Romano here and Miss Massie here all right we're all set uh okay so quickly let me just say I'd like to thank uh Mark Bowski our project manager for the North Edison Branch um for attending tonight just to answer some questions if we have any questions about two resolutions on tonight's agenda and I'm really happy to um note if you didn't notice in Allen's report that we do have a planning board um courtesy review of the plans for the North Edison Branch on Monday August 19th at 7 o'clock right here uh so I do hope that that some of you will be able to attend um and as a result of our special meeting on July 31st I'm really pleased that the aesus abatement is going to begin on Monday August 19th as well uh and it's expected that the main branch will be closed for two weeks um and I think because Mr pakowski is here I think we'll just hold off on the resolution of the minutes if everybody is in agreement and just move to the resolutions um pertaining to the North Edison Branch that would be under new business um B and C is everyone all right with doing that I don't think we need a a vote we don't need a vote I it's fine okay fine so our first resolution uh B is a resolution to approve a contract with mcab for ASB bestus testing at the North Edison Branch in the amount of $1 15,928 um asbest asbest abatement at Maine and that asbest was not discovered until after uh the contractors had started and then discovered that there was something in the tile in the 9x9 tile 9 by9 in tile um we decided that it would be uh to our benefit to have North the North Branch test it before um so that is what this that is what my question is okay if we found it after pulling up the carpet and the tiles that were cracked is how we found the asbest and there was a problem how are we going to test now if North is intact before we start any of their their Renovations well I am not going to answer that fully I will ask you to answer that in detail but from what I have heard from um the company who does the the inspection macab they have methods of going in a closet or some area that is not open to the staff or the public to to test those areas but if you could speak to that any further how would they test flooring if that's where the problem was in the first Library it kind of figures it might be there also sure be happy good evening hello a pleasure to be here our next time we're all together will be planning board and the next one will be our groundbreaking I'm think very positive uh it's really exciting for me to be here and to be working on this project uh I recently finished a uh a library in Cranberry which was one of the first uh bonds that the library uh New Jersey State Library put out and this is going to be another exciting one I look forward to a few Award winners on this one as well so happy to be part of this team uh regarding ASB besta testing uh also just a quick background I'm an architect I've had over 50 years experience I also have a construction company so I understand both sides of the equation what it takes to build design and build a project like this when it comes to asbest there are a couple of areas uh that are pretty much targeted one is floor tile in the case of uh North we go into one of the storage rooms and we have that 9 by9 tile so that's automatically a tip off uh that's a fairly typical uh what's called vat vinyl ESB besttile that was used in the 50s so we already know we have some right there so that still is in a closet area we can remove it and have it tested the other aspect is the glue or what called mastic that holds a tile down that also has been found to have asbestos in it so both of those will be tested uh areas that are carpeted they can cut the carpet lift it up and and check that as well and put it back in place and really you don't know it's there uh so those are the floors we look at the other uh aspect is insulation on Duck work and piping that has been known uh over the life of a building like this to have ASP bestus we'll have that tested as well so there are ways to be non-invasive and do all this testing okay now is didn't it used to be true that you know unless you're removing it it or disturbing it that it is safe that's that's called encapsulation and generally yes but then it's question do does it get Disturbed in the case of a storage room something now gets dropped on the tile now it fragments and now we have it in the air it's a little belt and suspenders but it's really prudent especially a municipal facility to treat it all that way we want to avoid problems further down the line okay thank you you're welcome you know what why don't we have a motion first and a second and then we can have discussion so do we have a motion for that resolution to approve a contract with mcabe for aestus testing at the North Edison Branch in the amount of $1,925 so moved second thank you all right now do we have any questions or comments um have we looked into have we spoken to the township to see Lisa can you speak in the microphone can you hear me doesn't that mic's not working hi have we have we spoken to the township to find out if they will help put the bill for this since it is their building and they own the building um I I believe that we spoke to the township prior to the meeting on the 31st and the township was very clear and that the library board was responsible for the building uh and they were not going to fund any portion of either asbest testing or asbest removal I can share with you the the uh email that we got from the ba I believe uh Miss Massie was um uh cced on that as well right and I believe that that is the email that you um read into the at the to into the minutes at the last meeting and was there another Mr Amano you had a I've been told to behave one did that stop you you don't mind no uh I understand going into a closet I've been there many times uh I've been told so I had to go into the closet uh the fesce uh the tiles and what have you I do understand the espesas on pipes and that I do understand about the removal when encapsulating it my problem is is that if we know that there's tile on the floor how do we remove the tile or how do we encapsulate the floor tile now there's rug there now there's rug there we have to take the rug up and then that takes and it it's causing us to further expense on removing and we're spending 80,000 for one floor and 80,000 for this this next floor uh I'm using I'm using you as the uh the people at know how do how does going into a closet tell us anything about the rest of the floor I mean I'm sorry I mean I'm really I'm really not I don't understand take the floor up and that's all there is to it now you want to argue about the township I'm here but do you you understand I have no problem about doing it and doing it the right way the first time please try to try to make me understand that picking up a piece of tile over there or a piece of tile over there what about where where you're standing where there's a thousand people standing there explain to me how we'll take a random sample excuse me sir I want to spend money I want to do it the right way I'm going to just have to argue with the township so me being a person that was told to behave I'm going to behave but I want you understand I'm not very happy with this it should have been done before it should have been noticed before evidently it wasn't noticed my problem is is why wasn't it noticed it's not my problem with you or your company or the organization that's not my issue my issue is is that you don't know what this is this is $35 million worth of project at one fac facility every every inch of this and I'll let you see it every inch of it was discussed many times why wasn't this found you why was this found before see that's see it's not with you see I want you to understand it's not with you understood my problem my problem is the taxpayers the taxpayers owned the building it's not your responsibility it's not my responsibility but the facts are as the facts explain to me why the engineer the people who designed why wasn't this found before I'm not looking for people's names I'm not look I'm just saying oh look we made a mistake I didn't say anything about errors and omissions but I have to take and bite my tongue right now and say please get my library up and running don't hurt my people that work there and don't hurt my students and my taxpayers let's clean it up get it done right okay don't talk to me about in a corner somewhere talk to me about what we have to do how we going to get it finished how we going to fix it and make it so it's good for everybody I apologize for your time I I think everybody's in agreement and the first step is to confirm where it if it is there where it is and how we remediate it to make the building safe I think we're all on the same page question is when did all this start when the building was built in the 50s and 60s everybody used vat it was an industry standard and we found the industry found out the problems with this material so we're trying to correct the the correct the ills of many generations ago and we will do it on this building as well all right I have a quick question um and hopefully I just need you to walk me step by step through with this so you go in you take up a piece of carpet or tile whatever and you check to see if there's asbes there you go to another area and you go to another area another area are these are all going to be in corner areas or they going to be just you know sporadically throughout the library like he said it could you could be standing there you check all four corners there's nothing no vestus but you get to this middle piece and there might be the beginning of it how do you plan on to you know making sure as an example it's like a room like this you see all the same floor if I take a sample here and here we assume it's all the same because it's all the same material so where we know well let's say it highly suspect that this 9 by9 tile is as best as the mastic is as best as that will test to confirm and then we'll look at other areas if the other areas do not have that tile underneath and we don't know underneath that carpet whether it's tile or whether it's directly to concrete so we'll test those areas as well but yes you do random selection to see whether you have that same contaminant throughout so if you do random Collections and you find nothing and then they start to rip everything else up and then you find something the odds of something like to happen or 99 out of 100 it's just not going to happen okay it's not 100% but yes that's just like uh paint on walls or anything else you can't chest test every area but when you have a suspect area and it's positive then you're going to continue to remediate throughout that's the whole purpose of this first step is the testing let's see what we find okay okay now we have we do have a um addition in the North Edison that was the um the children's section yes so there might be a good possibility that there isn't any contamination there correct because of the age of the structure because of the age of the structure yeah so that will also be tested separately especially as as you point out because the building was built in various phases right different materials based upon the age so you they'll all be checked independently good thank you than you yes I look forward to your report any other questions or comments so it's not all the floor just part of the floor well we're going to check all the flooring and as I said the installation to be sure that we find that is it will be as best as free thank you sir all right if there's no further questions or comments um could we have a roll call vote please miss me yes Miss O'Neal yes Miss Krauss yes Miss Pam yes Mr Patel yes Miss ly yes Mr Romano yes and Miss Massie yes motion carries all right and then the other resolution is to approve an extended contract for CME in the amount of $27,000 $560 uh can we just please for the record what does CME stand for oh it is our engineer and what does CME stand for well just I think saying the engineer it's the it's the engineer the yes CME Associates is their corporate name yes and they are the ones who um well they are the ones who have done all of the site work and there has been additional need for additional work that I will let you explain further surely so the the original plan was done by uh the prior architect and had different layout where we had different number of additions they did preliminary design work based upon the footprint that the previous architect had and when we changed architext and save some money on architectural fees based upon the redesign we incurred additional expense for the engineer site engineer now to redesign part of the site work in addition we also said we want to find out what's under the ground again going back to the asbestos so we did a lot of exploration we know where the pipes are we know the pipe sizes we know the locations now so that has caused additional design work for CME in the long run it will save the library money because there's no guessing later on that we pay the contractor now he finds said me oh it's no good pay me an extra the idea is of tried to avoid as many extras as we can and that's the reason for the additional uh really investigativ and Design Services quick question I've told yes is that also for the North Edison Library just because we have so many uh uh oh this is only where this is only North Edison Branch only I a question Pat do you mind this one sure I'm sorry no no that's fine um no that's all right go right ahead Miss Massie yes um first did you want to introduce this yeah let's do the let's do the motion and the second yes all right let's have our resolution uh let's have a motion to approve the resolution to approve an extended contract for CME um and and for a work at North Edison Branch let's a add at North Edison Branch um in the amount of $ anything things like that are we concerned about all of the above okay great we have done the borings soil borings uh to established the structural requirements and the other additional uh site work exploration has been done for the piping Etc do we know how far down approximately the borings went yeah we went down I believe it was six or eight feet okay but again we because the building is really two stories we went down and it not only did borings but we did visual exploration we excavated to see where the old footing was to measure that depth to tie everything together structurally great thank you you're welcome I have a question too since you said you were going you know underground and looking at all the piping and stuff there yes um the codes have changed since the building was first built are th are any of those pipings going to be changed or are they still going to be grandfathered in it's not a grandfather issue it's a pipe siize issue because as you mentioned storm waterer management hasang changed over time and the pipe sizes from everything I understand are adequate we don't have to replace it that's one reason we want to do that exploration now and not once we're under well that'll save us some money yes that the extras that's I I don't want to come before this board in the future and say we have this extra want to maintain we're going to have some extras but I want to be real cautious and do as much work up front lines on paper before we get under construction yeah we don't want a contractor to go down and say hey I got a replace this whole big giant pipe and it's going to cost you another 50 Grand right right thank you any other questions or comments yes I just came from a meeting and uh not about this and there were there was mention made of uh individuals that might know people are you a a firm that's from middlex County yes are you familiar with the middle seex County freeholders in general not specifically are you familiar with any Board of Ed members Board of Ed in Edison Township well you now thank you are you familiar with any Township officials no you able to go on a record for that absolutely thank you sir you have a nice day I behaved I was behaving all right all right just let the record show I behaved let the I'm a resident of middle County uh I live in Granberg okay okay right our Pierre's Deli is that that's a good B okay no problem oh my goodness all right are there any other questions or comments I think it wasn't clear when we introduced um Mark that he is actually our owner's rep yes he is the owner he is our owner's rep helping us for the North Edison Library so he is not a you know he's he's on our side so I never said he wasn't I'm just saying look I I got beat up pretty good at the last meeting that I was at you know and and you know not for nothing thank you sir thank you for all your help you're welcome all right do we have any other questions or comments hearing none could we have a roll call vote P please miss me yes Miss O'Neal yes Miss Krauss yes Miss Pam yes Mr Patel yes Miss liry yes Mr Romano yes sir thank you and Miss Massie yes motion carries thank you thank you very much for being here to give us this additional information that we really need it anytime like I say hopefully you'll be at the planning board to provide support and brand breaking will be next and then ribbon cutting also looking forward to very POS definitely thank you very much thank you all right okay so took a half hour we are going to return to our agenda and hopefully everyone had an opportunity to review the minutes of the regular session on July 9th 2024 were there any comments or suggestions Corrections hearing none those minute oh wait a minute there the date was incorrect it said June 11th the next meeting oh that was F yeah that was fixed but then I don't have it in front of me September 10th sorry that was on the agenda agend yeah it's on it's corrected on the agenda but we have a number of people who were not there at that meeting I don't have it up in front of me I was not present but I'll abstain from the vote the July July 9th meeting according to the minutes that were absent with Miss Krauss Miss Pam Mr romano and Miss ly okay yes so except for those people who were absent um the July 9th 20 24 minutes are approved by unanimous consent now we'll move to the July 30 31st hopefully everybody had an opportunity to review the minutes from our special meeting on July 31st uh were there any corrections to those I was not there so I will obain okay all right hearing none then those uh minutes the minutes of July 31st 2024 are approved by Anonymous consent all right I already said a few words uh now we'll move to the fin Financial reports are there any questions about the um Financial reports all right hearing none um are there any questions about the bill list dated August 12th no what but I am glad to see not each individual book listed and have 20 Pages the concession was there's two versions I condens it's really the book vendors that have the zillion line so the Baker and Taylor the Ingram the broad art was condensed and you have your edification and bedtime reading if you want to read the entire thing with every one of those lines that's there as well so um it choose whichever version they both come with the same bottom line depending on how much detail you want and I think also the detailed one sometimes I know there's questions in regards to what it was for um the detail really gives a a better idea of what the vendor W was used for so um that may help so I it's easier for me now I'll to do both of them um and then you choose whichever one you want but um either the condensed version it's really the the the books that are the ones that we condensed uh or the long version that has all the details choose which a condensed ver yeah it's very good I knew you would yeah it's very good but there might be one or two people who really want to look at all the the stuff and it it's open to to everyone we we produce these reports anyway yeah and as long as it's easy enough to um to do to provide both that's wonderful that's great thank you and then I feel in case the auditor asked for details I have it true all right if we have no further questions uh or comments do we have a motion to approve the bill list all right do we have a second second which one who who doesn't matter okay whoever okay um all right roll call vote please miss me yes Miss O'Neal yes Miss Krauss yes Miss Pam yes Mr Patel yes I'm in a meeting m liry yes Mr Romano yes and Miss Massie yes motion carries thank you all right thank you and now we'll move to the director's report um uh just go through some of uh what I have put on the agenda um I'm going to try to put the same things on every month so that I can uh go over uh everything um kind of in order uh nothing new with the foundation we're still working on a a brochure we are planning to look at uh a capital campaign uh for some of the new furnishings and we'll probably that have more information about that in September um the friends of the library uh had their uh meeting uh this past week um they are um uh I believe it's members strong at this point um which is fantastic um and um the next meeting in September um they are going to vote on uh funding several projects for the for the library uh in their effort to support our uh fundraising effort so we're excited about that um I believe we've already touched on the North Edison Branch um we are making um good good progress we're going to the planning board on Monday for the um courtesy review um and uh that's all set um and I believe as you heard Mark they he would really uh he and uh Anthony iina would really like to go out uh by the end of the month for uh a bids um the bit get the pig package and and out so that we can start um uh prob probably 45 days would put us at the end of October um which is fantastic um the main library branch we expect our remediation to start on Monday um staff is being relocated to uh the Clara Barton branch and the North Edison Branch uh along with uh some equipment supplies um holds um we're working on um some news releases and PR to go out um it's already out there in the uh some of the local nj.com as well uh asked me for some information and I was glad they reached out so I know the information is is accurate um uh our bookmobile Alan excuse me I have a question about the main library I've had a I've had questions from residents as to why is it just when the work is starting that they're closing the library if there has been aestus found why was the library not closed before this um I'm not an asbest expert but um that um the asbest on the second floor was found when they started the renovation when they pulled the carpeting up nothing has been done on the first floor on it has been tested there are the same tiles but that they're underneath the carpeting they have not been Disturbed those will be remediated in January most likely the first thing that we do when we start the renovation of the first floor and at that point again staff will be relocated to whatever branches we have open so the experts have told us and um I I'm going to say this a lot of people um who are unn knowledgeable or knowledgeable they unn knowledgeable seem to know more about asbest than the experts uh and when they go to aestus school I think they can really talk but um I think they really need to be careful for what they say because they don't know right Alan I'm just I'm just no no no I'm just saying for the for the board so that they're aware the the experts have told us that it is perfectly safe for the staff to work and for the public to work work on the first floor we only go up for the uh second floor if we need something um you know you go up with a a vendor go down you're up there for 30 seconds and you come down so no one's working upstairs um there's no ventilation that's attached between the upstairs and the downstairs so there's nothing that there's no way that anything upstairs can come downstairs so um we are already the bord is already approved the remediation of the uh first floor when we close uh for renovation I mean and that's what the experts have told us uh uh McCabe has told us that they are the experts they are the licensed uh um air quality experts with all of this and they're the ones who told us it is perfectly safe for us to be there otherwise we would have not we would not be there I'm just the messenger here I'm just the messenger I'm just relaying questions that I've been getting from the resid that is a very good question and I'm glad you brought it up because I think we should really repeat that um mcabe and I'm no espece expert but mcabe the company who who did the inspection and will do the abatement clearly told us that the abatement could take place when the building was open the building could have been open now they did advise that it would be cheaper cheaper quicker quicker and they would have and definitely they would have to do fewer air quality tests if the building had remained open they would have to do numerous air quality tests but then the board just you know then the decision was that no let's just close it and and so everybody doesn't even have a notion that there's any problem but that's we're going on the advice of the experts and these are the people who work with the state on asbest and asbest abatement all of the time so I I I'm glad you raised that because there has been a lot of you know questioning about that uh I have even I've I've received a couple of phone calls uh and it's amazing yeah what people are thinking but a lot of Mis a lot of misinformation uh by people who really don't know anything about the subject I do I do want to know where I can sign up for ASB besta school though I'm really I'm really interested maybe it is easier to make it clear to the public that the floor which they have found asbest that is closed public is not going there to the to the second floor or whatever place but that make it clearer so public is not effective I'm going to say this you can make it as clear as as clear as mud if you don't want to listen and you don't want to read it correctly they're not going to when it was already said in the article for nj.com that no one is up there th that it was closed the minute they discovered those 9 by9 tiles they didn't even hesitate they just said they stopped and they left and they called us uh and they said we we suspect that these 9 by9 tiles are whatever so no and we weren't up there staff wasn't up there we were it was just the workers up there and they left and so um we can put it out again Michael's got a uh Michael and Victoria have a uh news release uh that's going out tomorrow I'm not sure people are going to necessarily read what they don't want to read um there seems to be this you know let's it's more fun with misinformation than it is with with finding out accurate information um uh and this is uh one of the topics uh a lot of other in misinformation about the library uh has been filtering lately um and I'm just curious to where it started but um that's a whole other story in itself thank you all right I'm sorry I you didn't have a chance to finish and I I do want to remind you I think you had mentioned that we need a resolution regarding North Edison oh I was going to get that at the end but okay you want to do that now no no no you um we might as well you already brought it up okay um but we you we're going to do I'll mention it now and you said you you would do it in new business um we um uh have to do paperwork for the New Jersey state Library uh since we have made some changes to the original design at the North Edison Branch and they would like an official resolution saying that the board is is aware that the design has been changed I got this thumbs up from cat um and so uh as we're doing the paperwork for the state librarian um I brought that up to miss Massie today so uh it's a simple as that I think the board is aware of the changes um uh you know that we went with a different architect you know that we changed the design uh to make it more uh functional um more uh in the the way for us to um have it more how do I say it economical within the budget that we had um more reasonable um and so um uh this way officially everyone knows that we change the design um and uh I think uh after Monday's meetings I believe we have circulated a couple of times that the new revised things if not we'll make sure that all the board members have uh the newest thing on Monday after uh we get the things back from the planning board so that was the the North Edison Branch um I guess that's it unless there's anything I missed I know I've you want to say anything about rebranding oh so we've been working with a uh marketing a firm who is going to um do a series of focus groups uh and I believe um Miss Massie has um spoken to them Sarah are you there Sarah's spoken to them Deborah is is being interviewed uh this week tomorrow and then there will be a second round um which we'll have additional board members members of the the public and staff and what they're really kind of looking at is when you think of what do you think of when you think of the library what what do you think the library is you know we've been using the the um two different logos been using the adapted Township logo that looks just like that um it says Edison public library in the and we also have the prior older one that has the light bulb that says Edison Public Library but what is it when you see that moving forward that's what they're trying to do the interview so um we hope that that will this is something uh that was part of the Strategic plan and and I think we're making a a good step forward I was not interviewed I'm so I don't know what you were what she talked to you about but that's what I they told me they were going to talk to you about oh I gave away you know what now you know what they're going to talk about [Laughter] tomorrow did you want to add oh I missed the Humanity's lab yes um so um uh Caroline aversano brought to us our uh to our attention a project from the New Jersey counts on the humanities um for uh what they call their Humanities lab Pro project so Michael myself and Caroline have gone through uh several sessions in which you look at some of the projects that they're doing across the state uh to get some ideas uh for what we'd like to do and we uh threw a couple of ideas against the wall and one of the things we realize is we don't know what we don't know and what we don't know is what and how we can better serve the uh communities uh of Edison and particularly programs some of our programs have been super some of our programs have been H what is it the people want we also want to see if we can reach out to those who don't use the library to see if we can uh be a part of of their Edison uh EXP experience here um so that's the project we're proposing and we'll find out whether we get it or not um and um we'll be getting $4500 to pay for all that yeah 5,000 total to pay for all that so it was kind of an easy peasy to get the the Grant from the Council of humanities and they've been wonderful to work with and it kind of has enabled us to meet other different nonprofits around the state um that otherwise we would not have met uh as well so um we've got some other projects that I think we'd like to to know more about and bring in for programs and here in the library so it's been good for all of us thank you Deborah did you want to add anything yes first of all I thought you $5 million in Grand money oh you thought five million no you told me $5 million in Grand okay um so I just wanted to say really quickly that the summer reading program is winding down um we've had some great success with the programs this week we have um Harry Potter birthday parties at North and Clara we had a successful one at Maine last week um we also had an escape room which we'll be having at north um all of the events that were scheduled at the main library for the next two weeks have been transferred to the North in Clara Barton wherever there's space and you can look at the calendar to see when and where or just contact us um and then finally we had a longtime employee Lonnie Johnson retired he has gone to from New Jersey he has gone to work um for the Philadelphia Public Library so we wish him the best and we thank him for his years of service oh thank you thank you um all right we'll move to committee reports uh facilities the facilities committee did meet on July 29th to discuss uh the asbest remediation plans um and then Finance did not meet Personnel um we did meet we met with the Union so we are s of Union negotiations because the contract is up at the end of the year and we're hoping to get it done um hopefully as soon as possible so we can streamline everything we don't have to go further into the new year so whatever the percentage we decide to give they can get it you know on time right thank you anything else no no that's perfect and then policies and bylaws we have not met um but I believe that there's at least one or two that you'll want to have done for September um now we go to our unfinished business the shared services agreement uh as far as I know we have not heard anything back from [Music] um the the township attorney's review I I have not heard anything back can I ask yes I'm being it I'm going to be good uh shared services what does that mean oh Joe come on we've been doing whole year no the fact of the matter is shared services we had to take and pass motions and resolutions to accept part of their building I just would like to put it on the record that shared services would be they should take not responsibility but they should help us with this well I I I believe I yes I'm in complete agreement and I think uh that question has been raised a number of times that the township does own the library buildings we know that and they also own the vehicles um and the library typically doesn't ask for money uh for day-to-day operations but you're absolutely right in a situation like um the need for asbest abatement on a building that the township owns or something extraordinary you would hope that the township would yeah and it should considered because it's going to be a capital Improvement because you're making a capital Improvement and it should be considered part of that number one and number two it doesn't come in with the funding that they give us yearly that has nothing to do with their running at the library of the amount that they give us like you said they own the library they own the buildings they should be taking some responsibility for it I mean we can certainly get in touch we've spoiled that there are other townships and other counties with the Consortium that do not pay for even a light bulb I know if a light bulb goes out they have to wait sometimes two weeks for the township to come and replace it because it's a Township owned building right I have a question about sh we have been saying that that we haven't heard from the township what are the list of things in shared service agreement point I mean and number of things that we haven't heard um not only the building and other things but what are the list of the shared service agreements we are waiting from the township for a few months now that we are not hearing a from it and what how what do we have to do where are we at the shared services agreement and uh what do they have we have to resolve what is that it is pending and what we haven't heard from the township it's make it is it clearer number of things we are waiting for the share Services agreement uh Miss Massie well I all I yes go ahead when we're talking about the items and shared services I believe I would have to consult with the attorney but I think that should be done in close session right I think we well I I don't know whether it should be I mean it's it's it's it's on the agenda and um we're not we're not talking about specifics it's we're not going into we've already talked about this in open the mayor came and talked about it in open yes he did had a whole big booklet that he presented to everybody and yes and he had the big booklet that we still have and and he said that he didn't believe that there was a need for shared services agreement but we have found that there is a need to to your point as to one of the things you know that we need to know is what insurance we have what level of insurance we have you know for example we I know we had to make an inquiry about insurance regarding the ASB bestas right and you know I think we were told that there was there was nothing nothing there but we haven't seen any real documentation of that um so we have those issues we have you know issues regarding um you know the insurance for the for the employees Etc we've gone over all of these things um but as you know when we last met or way back when we said let's give it another try to send another letter we did do that and we have gotten not even a response or acknowledgement that we that we've sent anything and it's not only been through the attorneys but uh well we had met in June we had met in June right right have have uh have met and asked for feedback and haven't really gotten it other than what you relay in June right right so I would normally bring this up during Council discussion at the next meeting but I'm not going to be at the next meeting however I would be glad to have John pointer bring this up John is I think a good uh a good messenger for something like this and I know he was involved with you last year that would be very help would that would that work would that be okay that would be very helpful okay yes I I will do so yeah maybe we'll get the ball rolling again yeah thank you sure all right and then we have we've heard we we haven't had a strategic planning meeting but I believe the strategic planning committee will be involved with the um with the rebranding um Margo did you have any other announcements that that you would like to make I do not okay but thank you for that uh suggestion have one more resolution to approve uh two actually yes we have uh under new business we have a the resolution to roll over the library's CDs that come due on September 4th for another six months do we have a motion motion all right do we have a second second all right do we have any questions or discussion all right I have one question we've had so many change orders with all the uh Renovations and everything are we okay budget-wise to roll over the money yeah we haven't uh touched any of the capital for either at this point either from the State Library State library for the North or for Main Library we've been we have been absorbing it in um the uh operating um because I'm trying to preserve that for the actual cost of the building cost so we've been we've been good so far we would not need this for the next six months at all okay thank that's all I needed to hear thank you all right any other questions all right hearing none could we have a motion a roll call vote please miss me yes Miss O'Neal yes Miss Krauss yes Miss Pam yes Mr de Pasqual is absent sorry Mr Patel yes Miss ly yes Mr Romano yes and Miss Massie yes motion carries all right then that last resolution that we have is the one um a resolution that states that the board is aware that the design of the North Edison Branch has been revised I've actually got a good wording for it I'd like to make a res a resolution to acknowledge the revised design at North Edison that's beautiful Branch Library all right do we have you that's your motion that's my motion does that work yes do we have a second that all right do we have any questions all right hearing none could we have a roll call vote please yes Miss me yes Miss O'Neal yes Miss Krauss yes Miss famam yes Mr Patel yes Miss liry yes Mr Romano yes and Miss Massie yes motion carries all right thank you uh now we have we'll go on do we have any public comment yes please how are you you have to turn it on it's not user error all right uh well good evening my name is Sarah naster I'm from Pleasant Avenue in Edison um here as a representative of the friends of the Edison public library and wanted to make a few points um first a correction we're actually up to 108 memberships um as of this morning so very uh grateful that everyone is participating and joining through but when we actually look at it from a grand scheme of things we have 100,000 people here in Edison and only a hundred people have actually signed up for it so we have a long ways to go to kind of get the word out so that's why I'm kind of here is to just say it over and again um the goal of the the friends of the library is to just get engagement from our community so that we can have awareness of all these amazing programs that the Edison Public Library puts out there uh we will have more folks that will show up to these um events and and have more uh activity that we can do within the library with all these Renovations that we're doing we're looking forward to having more people show up and with the friends being a organization that feeds from the the foundation we're hoping that we can get that engagement going so when these new buildings are out there we actually have a lot of folks that that come and support it um the next thing that we're actually doing for the friends is that in October with the uh the week of the um October 25th and 26 we are having another book sale and B and bake sale at the North Library um hopefully there won't be any concerns with the uh um the asbest testing prior to that but we will make sure that we'll organize it as we need to so just again coming out here and saying hey if you haven't joined please look at the website there's a lot of information out there and we'd love to have you as a as a part of the uh the organization and also thank you to all the board members and to Alan and to Michael and Deborah they've been you know supporting us and and making sure that we have this fledgling organization it's our first year in we've raised 35 $0000 100 people that have come through here so the goal is just keep talking about it and keep having people come out and support us thank you can you please just repeat one more time when the bake sale is and where October 25th and 26th at the North Branch October right that is the Friday and Saturday I believe and the next meeting is September the next meeting is September 4th and um that is also at the North Branch that's great excuse me how many books do you want however many you can no I'm just kidding um I think you're allowed to have one big bunch of of uh box of books that you can donate through and there's going to be more correspondents that that Michael sends out afterwards when we have the donation Drive um that'll be open the goal is the first week of October um we'll have that open so we have enough time to sort it and set the the book sale up uh at the end of the month when schools open I do believe that they send out information about getting a library card to all the students can you send an application home with that for the parents to join the friends at the same time I mean might be good partn might uh something that Alan might be able to speak to better than I can we can talk to yeah school we discussed that the last I don't think it's we discuss that oh that not interested it has nothing to do with schools so because it's a public organization and not not a uh you know a live it is a part of the library but it it's still separate from it so it would be a little bit different bit of a conflict yeah word of mouth is is the best way right talk to your friends hey do you know about the friends of the the um the Edison Public Library so it's just Word of Mouth getting it out there and and just seeing what we can accomplish with this at the end of the day the goal for the friends is to help you know sorry one more question oh that's excellent um the meeting on September 4th what time and is this open for anyone to come or this is just board no it's open to anyone who wants to come and it's 7 o' 7 p.m. yep it's the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. and it rotates between each of the library branches um except in October we are skipping it to the second Wednesday because of a a religious holiday on the first of Wednesday so and it is on the the the list of um on the main page of the Edison Public Library it does list it out as what data is there so yes Michael is very organized about making sure that the awareness is there all right well again thank you for the time and just you know talk to your friends about being a friend yeah thank you so much Sarah for everything you're doing to get this friends off the you know really up and running so it's fabulous thank you one year in and hopefully many more to go one quick thing yes is the friends of the library doing any special for the senior citizens because I I know a lot of people that I meet that hey we have these programs for you know not only in the libraries but friends of the if you join it you know we can if they don't have it we can include example playing majang or canestra or something different for the specifically for senior citizens so that was actually something that we did discuss through so what we like this this first year our whole goal has been to raise funds and kind of get situated within the organization now that it is it'll be a year in September um that we've kicked it off and like I said we've raised about $3,500 we actually have not spent that money yet so now this is the time to get the suggestions from people so for example if there's ideas from for senior citizens programming or if there's other ideas for children's programming we're open to understanding what the public needs and where we can spend uh the funds that we've raised so our next meeting in September is actually where we will be voting to understand what we want to spend um for the first Initiative for this year so if you have any ideas please feel free to to come and and uh display what you would like to for us to support thank you okay thank you so much thank you all right take care all right we don't need a close session at all do we have any announcements all right the next regular meeting is Tuesday September 10th 7 pm. right here in council chambers I hope everybody enjoys the remainder uh of the summer and has a very happy Labor Day Wine and Food Festival that announcement yes yes I forgot about that oh I'm sorry I just remembered the this Saturday is the beer Wine and Food Festival um down on ambay Avenue uh if anyone would like to attend and also middle sex county colleg is having a um some sort of hair show I'm not exactly sure how to um call it um and it's for people who have natural hair in the African-American Community right oh that's excellent thank you thank you all right any other last minute announcements anybody thought of one quick one we have our house music festival celebration coming up August 25th so just a couple Saturdays out um we usually get a good crowd it's from 2: to 10 p.m. I believe you check online um right here in papani park but it's a really really cool event we have all different DJs who come out it's really energetic and Lively so if you can come out it's a really good time yeah thank you yeah people coming from East Orange actually skipping their Festival to come here that's amazing so do we have a motion to adjourn so moved do we have a second second who second it oh Jo okay all right the meeting H is adjourned at 805 thank you so much e e for
