Munos president Council tone present and Council tyros present I have 11 councilors present next order business the election of council president for the year 2025 Council tyros I would like to recuse myself for the vote for council president and the vote for closed nominations and we'll step down from the council table for these votes according to the state ethics Commission of council is not allowed to vote for themselves for council president or participate in debate thank you okay I'm recognizing that Council tyros would be candidate for this evening for council president are there any other councilors at this time that we' accusing themselves councilor kinus leading up to a nomination I have had the honor of serving as the gardener city council president for the past 4 years and 9 months to the day my time serving in the role has been and valuable I am grateful for the opportunity and thankful to my fellow City councilors for their support and confidence in me to lead the council the people that we represent in this great City rely on us to work for them and I take that very seriously I am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished for Gardener and look forward to all that we will accomplish in 2025 and the future the president is essential to ensuring that City business is carried out responsibly reasonably efficiently and effectively it is the council president who keeps meetings in order and holds the key leadership position in city government on the city council in the best interest of the city I believe that there should be more than one person on the council with President experience currently I am the sole member of the council who has served in the position although there is an election for President during the first city council meeting of each calendar year traditionally the same president is elected both years during the same term it is fair to say that my time as council president has been anything but traditional a midterm election of a new president is the optimal way to introduce a new person to the role counselor at large George tyros has demonstrated that he is more than capable of serving as the 39th president of the gardener city council councilor tyos is currently serving his third term at large has served on multiple standing committees and as a committee chair and in a appoint position in appointed positions of the city council he is engaged in City business responsive and reliable to his constituents and a solid colleague to his fellow counselors the knowledge that he has gained serves as a substantial foundation for a successful future in leading this Council I nominate councelor George tyros as city council president at this time there are now order for the Council of off for the held this role sets a bar high for anyone to follow but I'll do my very best as we look at the year ahead our work is cut out for us there are multiple transformative initiatives underway in our city that demand heightened focus and dedication to see them through completing those initiatives in alignment with our vision for Gardener is of utmost importance because we cannot afford to slow down the progress we made the changes we have implemented have allowed us to preserve the essence of our community while also taking crucial steps to make Gardener a vibrant and thriving City where both families and businesses are eager to belong as we strive to achieve these goals ensuring the Investments we make in our city are implemented in an efficient sustainable manner is crucial for long-term success effective governance will help solidify the progress we've made and set ourselves up for the future in the last year president kinus led us in key instances of focused oversight is my intention to continue this where appropriate it is our duty to ensure that the actions of municipal government are transparent accountable and in the best interest of our residents legislative oversight is a Cornerstone of good governance and we must be vigilant in our efforts to uphold this principle I look forward to working with the mayor on bolstering a culture of transparency and accountability implementing effective policies and ensuring that our City's government governance remains robust and trustworthy let's Embrace this work with optimism determination and a shared it through the pandemic um having to be the mayor um and um all the items that were in front of this Council that she dealt with in a um very uh professional professional way and made all of us
