##VIDEO ID:DcOQ_EX0zCA## >> HSD Broadcast: All right. Miss Hollywood. Yeah. Mr. Knuckles. Yes. Here Mr. Ritter here. Miss Sonic. Yeah, President Crooked Vice President. Excuse me. Public notice of this meeting pursuing to the Open Public Meetings Act has been given by the Superintendent of Schools and the following matter. On January 8th, 2025. Notice of this meeting was posted on the interior of the school administration offices, 95, Grove Street Haddonfield. Written notice was submitted and followed Haddonfield borough clerk, and notice her email to the Carrier Post and the retrospect newspaper. Board information with any. Student information presentation. The presentations are curriculum committee. We are reports. Yeah I can give a quick update. We just met yesterday. And had a great conversation. we had a couple of guest speakers. So Tammy shared some updates on. New Jersey, Virtual School. We talked a little bit about some of the different programs options and her her and her teams assessment of how those work. There will be a student survey as the programs are incorporated student. Survey will be sent out to help evaluate students' perceptions overall. we are very enthusiastic about adopting that program in addition I guess to our to the existing version just with more options for the students virtual Synchronous option. Thank you students. Thank you. Thank you. then Tammy and Rob give an overview of two new semester courses that are being offered to replace some existing offerings. So as always our administrative team and our curriculum specialist, spend a ton of time and energy, evaluating what's being offered. How many you know who's who's adopting the courses and and whether Versus need to flex or change and they've been working pertaining. I think to commercial art to kind of revamp. What was a four year course to be able to essentially, Put it into different semester versions, so that there will be more adoption More value for the students involved. Dr. Blair joined us as well and gave us some special ed curriculum updates, she talked a lot about On the programming, within our special end division that adapts to meet the needs of specific students and their needs their goals, and their IEP objectives always focused on evidence-based programming. And again, the importance of kind of evaluating the programs that are out there. She spoke a lot about a central repository online for teachers, who are working with kids who have different different needs to be able to access that and also spoke a bit about the importance of collaboration that we're in a district, where a teacher working with the student. can find others. Even in other school, buildings, who have experience working with a particular program, or can share their learnings, What worked well, which program might be most beneficial for students. So that's wonderful to hear and she also pointed out that for Many kids numerous programs and interventions are used. There's not a one size fits-all approach. we in evaluating that one of the follow-ups I think you know was to get additional documentation around the various programs used and look at some kind of cost documentation ROI detail and I think Dr. Blair will join us for sometimes soon, maybe in the next meeting to elaborate on those. Then we had a lot of guests. Then we had Matt, who came to talk about some new textbook recommendations. chemistry, open source textbooks, the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology for an AP course and AP bio starting his fall and then Geno, shared an update which was just good news that our qsap qsack submissions were submitted early and so we're already beginning to get some value and useful feedback on the many, many curriculums that we've submitted. So, any questions virtual? Courses, that somebody does at home, or there's a classroom here. That Virtual classes, The virtual high school being option, too, so I've done that. the difference is, There's different. So the different levels so you can take it but there's there's some levels you pay a more X. You actually have a New Jersey certified, teacher, who can give you into these other instruction, rather yourself guide a course, and what it came down to was we were going to move that option. And then realize, maybe we had found, we decide which option they want to use. We don't we're gonna mandate it for next to 90 dollars. So if you have a child who can take magic personal finance on their own, Okay, you sign up but it's you know, my kid might need some help on this. You can buy the tutors that's great. Plus the plus option but that was called and then it would be important, you would be as New Jersey certified teacher. Who you could, then tap in his research. That's right. So providing additional options beyond our standard. S. Actually, the Is a tricky, it's a tricky. And and Robin time you're doing doing as well. It's a tricky thing with electives these days, right? Because the flavor of the month changes very quickly and the challenge is Teachers might have a passion and want to teach X. That doesn't mean kids want to learn facts. Right? So and so the good example this is a good example. They course that was put together with this brilliant design and the kids like I don't want to do that. I want to be this part of that. So what have they took a course? I had three major components, the one component. No one on the kids are drawn to maybe two semasters with more focus on those two things and what it's kind of, You know, when you're an elected teacher kids, what would your feet Right, so they voted. We don't like this. They were somewhere else and so now they listened and they came back and they said, Okay, we can focus on the two things. The kids really good. Now, the flexibility there is three years from now. It might be different so that you got if you've got to be at time and I think in the we talk about the one you're looking at a senior course for in English, we're talking about, we're gonna make it. So, it'll be a semester study of extent of literature, but knowing that energy can flex based on who takes a cool care, right? So it might not be always roomies literature or this literature might be. So there's a, there's a nice balance of listening to the kids. And because they're the ones for taking the course. Because once you let teachers pick their passion courses, it's great to teach you. What are three kids in my room? It's not, it's not that record his fullness. So that's that's a good job by those people. Yes. All right, Greg, Finance that everybody. All right, let's use Gino's words, this is a policy dump but yeah, really policy down for that. We had sogo, I'll be as concise as possible Policy 511, which had to do with Elizabeth non-resident. Students we table that until at least February he's clarification from the state and maybe maybe you need a ten, a special summer coming up. So what nothing further on that policy, this time more to come apparently What Genesis a lot of districts have many, many questions about this policy. So all the details are out there if you want to take a look at it for yourself. and I'm sure you'll have just many questions we did. So moving on from that. Next one was Policy 5512, HIV. Revision. This is a mandated policy. And essentially the major change in this first reading was It's been provides that information. that includes. Parental notification, requirements, and procedural. Guidance on the school district must stay slash pause and HIV investigation to a law enforcement includes investigation. We do this now. Anyway, so this is mandated and moving forward with that one. Next one was policy 5533. Students smoking has been revised. report, the user of electronics smoking devices to law, enforcement school, officials reasonably suspect. The device contains to control. Your substance or cannabis. That's also a mandated policy. And then policy 7441 which is electronics, surveillance, and school buildings essentially what this states. It's memory of understanding that That law enforcement can. and certain circumstances, they would have to notify spouse in that case, which essentially, this already happened to be happening anyway, but but that's essentially what that policy. also a mandated policy, finally. Policy 9320 cooperation law enforcement agencies. There's revision to this policy. A lot of superintendent or designated to designate a law enforcement unit for the district. Also, addresses a handle of care program. And talks about. You know, defines marijuana and canvas is not under controlled substance. But still triggers, a district responsibility to notify law enforcement, the students under the influence or possession. That is also a united policy. All these were first readings. There was an engineer. You do not, welcome back. That's right maybe thank you for your patience but one big city came out of that was your question is this? because there's no smoking policies about science? Yeah, and someone asked We have signs that's unfortunately doing some of them walk by their way, if that's and had no signs. It doesn't sound out. So we are now having no not just those smoking videos. Please signs. You can actually read if you walk out today. Tonight, you turn out the sign I challenge you today. Yes. And any other questions? Long-range Facilities Plan. We have a meeting coming next week so nothing, you report on that. And any PTA updates are some from middle school. because I just lost it now. So a couple of things that what I think I had mentioned this before that they were looking to see about adding Um, basketball nets out back. I think maybe send it more in an email with some questions. Even so like, get more details on that, but of Some of the things that the middle school wanted to maybe see if they could help or add. They wanted to wait and see if they're a friend of had passed. I think this was something we had discussed in the fall meeting but then any of these outdoors I think the other thing was a welcome sign on the side Does it need to wait until plans for any kind of construction might happen or can they go ahead and do that? So that I'm gonna get some more information and I'll send an email out about that but just wanted to know that. That's something that's been discussed and that also they're looking to replace the water fountain bottle filler for the kids in the gym area and checking in on that. And I will also say I know that they have at least two events coming up. One is I think the eighth grade teacher and then also a full school of event. That's ice skating over at the Cooper River Ice Rink. So And PTA has a couple things coming up as well. on Sunday. January 26th, they're going to be holding a family of Halloween party and on Tuesday February 4th, we're gonna have our annual multicultural night at 5:30 This is when tea and families come in and Represents a their culture or a country? And it's a really beautiful night. There's a bunch of known as and abuelos who come with home a home book of food and starting. Last year we have, we're going to have performances at the end of the night, too. And if that's a really nice thing to see, we actually had a spontaneous performance where TM student was inspired by what he saw an access mom to go on stage and do a dance with him. So they danced with Dominican music And it was just so wonderful to witness the fall on his face, and it's just a really, really lovely evening. So it was a really nice event here in February, 4th starts at 5:30. We'll probably do something like the last 45 minutes of so it's open to the community. Anyone is welcome to join me. Encourage you to Like I have Apologism. About that. Yeah, really great. Yeah. That way everyone's aware. He's a great job last year. And K2, right? Assistant Superintendent, okay, Tom, send those questions about the building along. So we'll get into the architect. Okay, we met with Jerry. We're actually moving the playground work. Being gonna tell you it having to the very last thing that gives the PTA more time. Yeah. Okay. Great. You can move around, Okay, based on that time. So what would you like? Would you want like, the PTA supply us with like kind of pretty like a little bit Det? Exactly what they would be looking to enjoy the building. Yeah, and the architecture that's not going to affect us, any way, shape or form, okay? So now they say we're gonna be tearing that up, hold off on it. But the example at the playgrounds research for the playground, the elementary schools PTAs are raising money for new equipment. Who could is very expensive, like the longer you can put it off. Yeah, tell me. You have a great money and well, it doesn't affect any other product construction, we can do that. So those are the things we can. To coordinate to tell us whether anytime, okay? Fantastic. Sorry, no, appreciate that. To to two items. One mega alluded to the Our Cusack Review and as the result of our early submission, we were able to get some feedback on some of our work. and we are now in the process of making some of those revisions based on the feedback as a result of that, the board will note that we're gonna add in the agenda item next week to have those revisions approved, which is required to be considered and I'll give you an example of what most of the feedback is, it's, you know, well, we're talking about curriculum standards in all of our pre-K to 12 classes. We're talking about literally thousands of standard parts, hundreds of standards, maybe thousands. And some of the feedback is well in Grade Seven science. I don't see standard eight point four to see. And in 90% of those cases that particular item is just a different location where the reviewer didn't know there were a couple instances, we were missing a substandard, something. or we're able to very easily make those Easily supervisors of done. A great job working on this. We'll have those revisions to the board on Monday and we'll need to have those approved on for next week's agenda. So it's not appearing here. but you'll get a concise document with all of the updates that we're required to make. and next at the next finance committee, we're going to be that's Hawking about The topic of the summer enrichment. This will be the first summer that this is not a funded initiative. Something I've been telegraphing for the past two to three years. That that's right. You said you just said funded. But as for fun, it was always funded by Thank you. Yeah, so that that Esther money has joined up. So we're going to be talking with the finance community about what options we have. aside from the fiscal challenge that we have with that. The next thing will be building space, a building to run it. Now not to confuse this with the Extended School Year program which is a mandated program that will run over the summer. We're talking about the enrichment class which was the Taylor Swift the Arts and Music class. um so if we're able to clear the hurdle of location which is a substantial hurdle, the next thing will be, it's an unbudgeted expense. It would have to be a pay to play program. You know, I'm looking at preliminary numbers at a low of 75 dollars to a high of 175 dollars for that would be a tuition to parents and then the final hurdle will be. Well, if we find it location, if we think paying is a good idea, should we be in the business of Summer summer, running summer classes. So a few hurdles to go through so we'll be having that discussion in the next five minutes. And huge congrats to Gino and team. All of the zillion people involved in getting our Q-sacions. and I appreciate the accolade and let's hold on to it. Yes. Of this official. Yeah, that's efficient. Yeah, when you started working with Six weeks before we got a communication out from the county. But so, If you didn't do that, where somebody get at the deadline, we're not getting that feedback, prior. Then all the sudden, we're scrambling February 4th, trying to get this in otherwise, we're losing point. So it is a big Thank you. Try to play it down. Two modest. Superintendent support. Um, just just the what the as you could imagine. we've been, we've been working a lot on the referendum that we have an LRP the next week, we'll get more details, but a lot of the planning of time these phone into place as we've met with building principles, we've met with bomb council. We've met with financial advisors. We're getting all those things lined up. We have something literally sweating something, I'm gonna tease this to make sure your next Because I'm exciting stuff coming up. It'll be reporting out. but, there's some challenges we're gonna face, you know, and so we're being see, some of those come to fruition as we had look at this great plan also. Oh, but the thing is, some of the challenge we're looking at are in 2027. That's how that's that's the type of work going there. So we are gonna have by next week, week. We'll be able to tell you with 94% insurance, what's gonna happen this summer? Right. So we'll be able to know what we're keeping on the summer with what's going to be some of the things that are going to be finishing quicker to be at hope. So, when things are going to be a little more de And we have meetings up. Probably accept. Sorry, Tuesday. There's gonna for the with also new architects. It's gonna rule. It's their clarify, some of the points. So, that's that's the biggest thing. And then we've got a good news from the Bond Council, the numbers are coming back. in our favor, right? So that that's what we were hoping for so we're not getting any negative surprises there. So right so far, And three four four weeks into this. We're going really well. four weeks of our five years, maybe the first four weeks of starting off with really, really good. And the other thing we're looking at too, I've been working with Polleys, we Communications of what we're doing is crucial. And so right now, we're giving information about when we're off of good issue, debt? Really? That's really easy. Once we are doing stuff. By William in the architects and construction, people, we need to show that. And so Polly and I start going through just just Googling on schools are doing bond referendums and what they're doing everything from just a picture here and there to some text to actually the time last photos of them putting down a floor. Wow. Um, so we're gonna try to exploring that the efforts that's gonna take, and then we'll talk about next week, review the new Here's what it looks like. Here's what we're doing. So We're doing as much effort in. How to communicate what we're doing? As in what we're doing. That's Okay, so tune in next week. Is that I just say like there were some really great examples, right? That we had seen at the conference, the workshop of some schools in the state that the websites and the communication. But even the events was like, community events that they were having like, having the community be a part of the building just really cool. Things. Things like Well, we'll have sweet Brown. What place we're doing some rowdy, but the some of the year ones, were We saw this there, they'll do this. It had an end tatum when they're putting up the last beam with it for the new steel, all the kids that, you know, sign it now that we'll start doing things like that to get out that I There's there's one if your board. Seneca High School in Illinois. To go to New Gym. Look at that website. I'm telling Brad really do what they look at that website. You can see every day like time lapse of like six months of the thing going up last year. It is awesome. Maybe don't go look at that. Yeah. I'll give you a bag with a look at Is there? very? No. No. Other than what I heard is that it I don't have a date but it is moving along and My understanding is the demolition is going to happen, more closely to the finishing of that than it was going to before. Don't that's my understanding as well that's what I was. Yeah. All right. Good news there too. May I ask another quick question that I should have just asked Mike about an ages ago. We were talking about the crosswalk in front of the high school and I know we had some level of commitment from the county to help is that one that's what went in Labor Day weekend, is that I got the extent of it. Are you are you making a joke? saw new cones, they go away that weekend. So we for something wrong for other. There's no update the last. Borough and again it is. It's county responsibility. It's worked on sole understood but there's no new update on progress towards that. Being completed The last communication was just that the people primary cost of orders over 200 grand. So they said that the county received for. So there is no new audio. Linda Total threw me with that, sorry. Out there. There's no that's I just Don't pay attention this time here. I'm just seven bucks pitch blackout. So for the Army, was this five o'clock at? Yeah. Yeah. Sports and okay, thank you. Just for the board President's report. Today, there was an article that came out that it seems like full day. Mandated kindergarten might be back in the United. Legislature were good. IOS Mr. Classify as any more details, but when I read it I felt thank goodness knowing that it took two years to get to this place. It feels pretty good to have a solid plan place because you know I think that all whenever it does come through, you just need to be have a plan. So we've got it under the details yet. I know that I've gotten calls from several news outlets. You want to talk to the one of the school's name, it doesn't have Actually want to come. Is one of our kindergartens to see what it looks like that? A half a day kindergarten, so that's interesting. Um, but the other part too, if you look at the articles, it's fully kindergarten and a plan. For inclusive for a full pre-K on what a plan means. I don't know. Same, let me, you might just have to have a plan, you don't have to, you can see the plan you set to have a plan. So we'll wait to see what that looks like. I'm actually surprised they're meeting you because there's so few schools left. Um, but I think it'd be hard-pressed to put a plan in for full day pre-K, unless you mandate cake first and that's the logic on that so. Well, I'll be watching closely I got an email to Melanie Bernie from the inquiries. I mean, if you must have a crystal ball on Murphy, just, I did not have a crystal ball. so, I'll be watching that closely that everyone type, this is Our work session. and say that work sessions would be the sessions that if there were topics for for discussions and committee of the whole That I skip that this is what happens when I take my class. Right. Okay, no, it's that word. We just you crossed it up because we don't have anything but they just wanted to remind the board that we did say that this would be, these are the meetings where if there was something that we wanted to discuss as committee of the whole. So, you know, New Year and let's be mindful of that. And if there are topics that are emerging, that these are the meetings Um, public comment. I am not going to read Jamie's wonderful, and eloquent statement, because I know you either of you have. It want to make a public comment. This is the time to make publicity. Seeing that there's no one in the audience. I will. I will assume that we don't have no no not in history. Okay, so now we'll just do a review of the 123 25 agenda. Items for Board of Education approval. Governance. This will just I'll just stop and see if anybody has any comments on each of the topics. Curriculum and special education. The one comment on the J. Especially the programs. I know that we have discusses curriculum. That we the greatest more information. So that that's great, she can do update about costs in that type of thing. So, And some details on that. And also reassuring, that some of those, many of those programs are used by general too. Just that's a comprehensive special ideas. And we are mindful of that. So we buy, Based on that. Not, we don't have a special, ed buying, or quizlet, and general, admission package now. So, that's all been, that's all because we'll get more detail math, right? For this week. Personal. Approval of the following business and financial recommendations. Chuck Inventions working with Bob Council on working towards the bond sale to get the to receive the conferences for the correct Brandon construction. I just received that resolution this afternoon and it's the appointment putting it on there so late because it's a 30 page resolution. So I don't want you guys. I think yet to read that before tonight. So that'll be on the agenda for next week, but you'll have you'll get the link. That will be added for next week. Also added to next week, there'll be there a couple RFPs that we open this week for the referendum architect and construction manager. Those recommendations should be on next week's agenda as well. not for next week, but for next month, we also have the fiscal year 2024 audit that was completed and follow the state this week that will be on the agenda for February and then our auditor will be here. The 13th board meeting to give the financial summary from the fiscal year. This is one that on the bond cancel and financial advisory. I felt likes growth a little bit. He said Some education meetings. He's like, I don't know if you fiverr for an IP address and those are causing sitting here for two hours talking about interest rates in this matter, but haven't got to cut out of myself. Good. As long as Mike understood. I think we're good. I was doing those things that they doing. Well, please. I can't hear. It was interesting. because, I found the interesting so I'm gonna go. Yes. We were fast. I had a question on C. I feel like we addressed this before but I'm forgetting me details, the purchase of the lift every investing in that because like long-term usage, Yes, we actually floated this by the Finance Committee back in December. That is obviously for a lot of reasons, right? I'll start with a funding source. It's actually being. purchased through on equipment pool, that we have with our custodial management company. So that's actually not affecting our general fund budget at all. That's a simple way to what. We've already spent that one. Secondly, we all the rationale to purchase it. Number one, safety. number two. We have this referendum coming up, very useful to us in certain aspects, the variety of reasons especially getting access for a professionals perhaps like our architect I mean need to go and review instead of pulling worker off of one of the contractors list when they need to go work, we'll use our own lift. so they can continue to work. And and what, the architect review, work as art and things like that. So for a lot of reasons and again, safety, most importantly, for our staff to use, and things like, even For the cleaning, gutters, when this building we have to, we have to borrow the truck from the bar over. We can't get there, just a baby. We'll be able to clean the gutters things like changing lights and gyms stuff like that are really challenging. So this and the banner. So, Just yeah, we rent them a couple times a year, but yes, right to do those things. Well it's also fascinating about these lists people. We call them spider lifts. They're show impact, they can fit through a single normal size doorway. And this lift reaches up to 660 feet. That's the president. Yeah. Which will? Cars. Perfect example. The highest roof. Gutter that we would need to access is actually the rear of angling. It's almost 60 feet. It can it can Think is we can access it. There's my house around me problems, but yeah. that's like trying to kill a man with bazooka. I have a question on me. I thought we had previously paid for this. Yes. So Missy is received his doctorate from Marshall University. so as part of their program, they require the dissertation to be a minimum of, I think it was six credit hours. so when he initially registered for his final dissertation semester, he registered for what he thought was fulfilling requirement of two semester hours. the university scheduled his dissertation, they allowed him to defend his dissertation and but did not issue his dissertation because he has not met the financial obligation for the six credits, which are required. So, as a result, he had to pay for additional credit hours. Upon his payment in completion of that. He will submit a reimbursement. So, once we confirm that, that payment has been made, And they will. And this and this is contractual, right? The the administrative pool gets a pool of money. The tuition reimbursement. Each person, each individuals limited at 5,000. but, and if everyone did it in the pool around money, but as long as money in the pool, contractionally this falls under what we Yeah, I just saw before you And congratulations to you. Subject. And also a nightmare. I should be graduating. Just kidding. Yeah. Yeah. Stressful. Okay. And anything else there? And then approval of the minutes. Items for future consideration from the board. And can I get a motion to adjourn the meeting? Thank you.
