And I know that it's not just showing up every every one Thursday, a month and give me report they meet with mission to kale. They talk what's happening? They reach out to students. There's an interview with faculty, there's a speech to student council and based on faculty feedback between counsel hook me back and come up about three new broadcast It is. It's probably one of the few times in our because we try to be inclusive. We're mostly kids get caught up. Like, I was everything else we tried being inclusive, but I think they were 10, or 10 or 12 applicants for this. We got it down to three, just a lot of work and it's very important. So we're honor to have them with you. So we have an oath this way Pretty long. Considering this I think that I saw the old noration Monday. This is longer. Jackie said, Oh, that's right now. all right, so, you know, I just again want to thank all of those who have to have served and who are now signing on to serve. it's a really important position because this is, you're getting to be an age where you have really strong voice in what's going on in your school. And it's, it's wonderful that you can bring the thoughts and opinions of those that you're in school with to us. And that you get to hear a little bit about the decision making process. And one of the things that struck me was, we talked about how, you know, for that, we have more students to the All Self Jersey Banded, orchestra that we've had before and it was not that long ago, you all remember. had the meeting talking about how we're going to work on. Strengthening and recruiting our band, and orchestra programs, and our music programs and we really put all that into action and it's it's really cool when you get to see those things have an impact. On them so, well, thank you so much for being here. Check out you're gonna do you first. You're gonna be okay now now it's so this is so as you heard earlier January is school board, appreciation months, I'm gonna speak first. I think for the community, and probably for myself. So I want to thank these nine individuals who give up their time and volunteer to do a lot of work and what's for the betterment of the community? The better, the school? school work for our students. It's it is often, bankless is the job, but I think we live in a community work is thankful. I think we, I think our communities appreciate and understands them how important you are to our schools our students. So we the community really appreciate you. I would, I know that be true on a personal note. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you too. I mean, my job is different because of the nine people. I have working with me. I know that there's a relationship with all this and it's a comfortable one. We challenge each other. Sometimes we disagree, but it's always respectful and it makes me coming to work more. You trying to work for me, more enjoyables like a person. I appreciate you. So I just want to, we have a certificate for everyone. Yeah, it's outside, right? But really just It's a small gesture but we do really appreciate all your time ever because it is a lot of work. People ever see and it's it's really means a lot to me into the town to our students. Thank you very much. Thank you. Report today, Jack McKeever. I'm excited to be here. It's my first one, so I'm right. Just get right into things. as class. I mentioned it is midterms week, which is always a stressful week but you know, we got trouble. The therapy, dog. He's in the cafeteria. every day. Exactly. And then also the bad club is hosting badminton. So as much as people are stressed out there midterms, yeah, they do have some things going back and blow some steam. and then community meetings were also held last week for course, selection and as I discussed this from Kale, Almost 98% of the class selections are in which is really good preparing for next year because there's so many people who want to take the wide variety of classes, we offer, so decides that she can start putting in courses putting students where they want to be, you know, their primary selections. The common safety meeting is coming up in March. the planning phases are starting. Now, starting with the Antibias club, And our goal is to hopefully reach out as well. The middle school on top of the high school. Send some of the antivirus club officers. And really try and reach out in our community. This past Monday, we had MLK Data service which 11 plus groups, engaging service activities such as sports teams like the basketball teams, doing hiking, kits or making PBS as well as cloudy with love making fleece blankets. and then as some of our first orders as me or the other board members and I And Miss McHale, we're thinking about implementing some new ideas into our school community. So firstly, we're going to try present monthly to our student delegates because they are a member of our student council. But they don't have as much of a role as we believe, they think they should. So our goal is to do a similar presentation like this so we can see you guys to our student. Delegates Trying to keep them in the loop, you know, bounce ideas off of them. We're also looking to reach out to middle school and elementary school principals. Because, you know, as much as we're rest for the high school, we should really represent our entire community. Because the Board of Edit doesn't just represent high school represents everybody. So, our goal is to even if it's elementary school. At a good day at the art show, you know. It's still something. So we want to try and implement that and then, finally, this past fall, we had a survey went out about summer work and you know, managing the course loads that are students because, you know, it had a field students pick heavy course loads and you know, that they want to achieve. Well that turns into some people have 30 plus hours. The summer work for one class, so I'm in 3, AP classes, that's 90 plus hours of summer work. so, the goal is to really assess the data that we received from that and meet with a different department. Size department math department and come to a conclusion on what is necessary to give us summer work and keep your brain functioning but what isn't too much is? It's just busy work. Yeah, just extracting students from their summer. and finally, we have the Costa Rica trip and branch trip, which was I was there at the meeting myself. There was a hundred plus families. A lot of people were amazing trip. Distributes one. Yeah. Costa Rica threats. Yes. I know I was because we go on and As of now, 34 families have signed up for Costa Rica, which is already exceeding. The number that we think they're gonna be able to take so fast. see how they can go with that? But Those trips are looking really good. It's I mean, I think someone's life. I'm opportunity to be able to go this kind of places, immerse yourself in the environment. It's not just, you're staying in like a hotel, going zipline, like you are going, we're going to Cal Farms and we're immersing ours in the villages. And like the native culture. I think that's often the goal of our Spanish department and also our Spanish department when they go to France and doing somewhere idea, So I'm really excited that as well. The other members who signed up and I think it's around $4,000 was the end goal for the entire trip? It's a nine day trip. I know really for those week, I think it's similar for France. I remember about they said four thousand, three or four families got well, but I think that's going to go really well. that's all I got you more rep, you decide, which the people get the good address grocery authorities in your Roger. Yes. I don't like that. Okay. There are a great bandwidth for for these trips. Yeah, so for the Costa Rica trip, it's Spanish, three Spanish, four, and an AP Spanish. That's the same thing. Okay, press three frenchboard AP French. but, They can't necessarily do it. Like this is out of school trip but the goal is to kind of prioritize AP students, you know, primarily seniors, you know, juniors have a chance to go there next year, maybe but see you. So ask around you. Yes. a very well done. Welcome. And you know what, there's a couple of things that you said that I don't want to just let them float out there. When you look at our agenda, at the very top of the agenda that we have, what the district mission is and there's only it's it's a sentence and but we have, you know, really look at what those words mean. And it's a Penfield school district. We inspire academic excellence, foster of learning and empower our students. To be contributing members of the global. Community. And we spend time talking about, what does it mean to be part of the global community? And sometimes it's really hard to see how that that why? But we say that when you learn that within having field, there are communities, and then those communities. reach out further and further and you hit on a couple of those just tonight, Just the fact that you understand that your high school community isn't the only community that the district community is is a wider community where you can have an impact and then talking about your place in the global world and immersing yourself. So, well done. And that is what we hope is going to come out of our students. So, I just didn't want that to go live. Very, very first. Of the other reps, you know? Thank you. Another thing. You spoke to is the 98% of kids Heather, whose selection it. So what they, what was different from the previous principal to high school, you just do it on your own and would take three months to track everyone downs and couldn't start the process of building a massive schedule Making sure kids can get what they needed. What they do now is the community So you'll go all Jews are all the time at once and you'll get a presentation. Your course flash and therefore over the course of a week, you captured all now we know how many sections of Spanish three. We need to and so now Ms. Michael and our team, start building the master schedule and where that really helps is when you look at some of the students are very unique schedules and for APs or whatever. Sometimes you can move the schedule around, they actually take this for these. Um the later you wait for the end of the year, the more difficult that is. But now they are so far and five weeks ahead where I actually So it's a good thing. So it seems like an awkward things go down and auditorium. It's junior pick all your courses. It really beneficial to making sure that you and all your peers can get what they need next. Year, it's good. That's good. Thank you so much, nice job. So, it's midterms how many you have tomorrow. I live one one for you versus a second, seriously bad? Yeah, yeah, you can still go and study good. So we refer people stay, um, but going home to the right side for the midterm, so thank you. John Jack, thank you graduation. And if you have giveaways number taxi, you let me text or tell her stay home study and we'll catch her next time you. Yeah, yeah, actually, yes. If you text me for baseball game right now, text for let her know, just go home and next time, Something she comes. We'll swear her in there, rather ever come now. Because she's got to study too. All right? Thank you. Okay, now we have this for Fox is going to be do our buy annual HIV All right, good evening, guys. So that was here after orders of fun. Performing our supervisor now. I'm here as they bullying coordinator. Yeah. Um, so tonight, I'm going to be doing the report period one for our biannual support Superintendent's report for harassment intimidation and Boeing The mission statement which is clearly well talked about. So I'm not going to read that again. Reporting period under the anti-going Bill of rights. We have to to reports to the board each year report period one is to report that you're getting today is from any incidents to happen from September 1st or December 31st. And then report period two we usually do in July and that's any incidents that happen from January 1st through June 30th. Anti-bullying Specialist At each school, every school is required to have an anti-bullying specialist under the anti-bullying Bill of Rights. I'm very lucky This is my second year with the same team so we have Brielle Alexander at Central Elementary Diane Wallace. That had no elementary Tatum. Elementary is Mary Hall. Hemfield, Middle School is having probes and then having to build Heights Memorial High School is Rachel Gould. this is directly from our policy 5512 on harassment. Inclination going this basically just mirrors Anti-boing Bill of Rights and the wall of how we define What? What constitute is born. and I also want to note that before we get into all the data and stuff, the weather, something is defined under this wall as HIV or not. We still address it so even if it doesn't come back as HIV, we still do address it through code of conduct. So here's the report for report period. 124 25 school year. We had a total of I'm just gonna focus on the bottom numbers. You can see all the schools. There we had a total of 15 reported incidents from September 1st through December, 31st of those 15 incidents. We have in our board policy, principal primary termination so seven of those incidents were determined not to need investigation because there was either no clear distinguishing characteristic or substantial disruption or both. So we felt looking at the initial three, three Forward. And then of the remaining, ones, we had two that were confirmed and six that were not confirmed. Three. Three, four. Give us a 30 second overview, what that is, that's a relative that's only two years old, but it's important as a big change in the process. Okay. Yeah, so whenever we initiate an investigation or whether I shouldn't say investigation whenever we initiate or get reports of possible HIV, 338 form has to be filled out in the three, three, four, I don't have a state came up with that number, but it's a form that is provided by State. I'm sure there's reason somewhere but it's, it's a form that's provided by the state. That every school district, every public school district in Jersey has to use, and it's a form that either. The parents can fill out student can fill out, or if it is if it's something that happens in school and a staff member sees it, there's a specific LEA three, three form that, a staff member has to go out And then we take that information, we will get it. That is what helps us determine if we need to move forward with an investigation or not. And then and some of the information on there includes obviously the possible victim but they can be anonymous sometimes. So but typically includes a victim, the offender, any possible witnesses the scenario, what encompasses, you know, that would trigger something like this to have a three three form-filled out. So that's that's kind of just The general overview of it. And then we take that three three form and we use a spec we use a program called My K-12. It's our hip program that kind of helps us. Keep all this organized with. Obviously it's a lot of paperwork and we upload that form into there. So it's attached to every report. So, That's kind of it not show. So, all right, so all the HIV. So, the past initial principal pulmonary termination, the aid of them, you can see the breakdown Here, we have three there were based on race, which was 37 and a half percent. We had two there were based on sexual orientation that was 25%. I realize I should delete that 5%. We did not have any on religion. So that's just a carry over from my science. My apologies, this ability, we had one, which is 20 12.5% was two, which was 25%. So, I'll beat that slide. For other. Is that a trend? Like do we know what that represents and whether or not which should be identifiable over time? It's it's it can be a mixture of things, right? It could be, you know, a student, you know, someone was making fun of a student's dress or making fun of a student's hair. So it doesn't necessarily fall under one of those but I guess honestly, one of the things I've noticed is size tends to be a big issue and that's that what any small weight or or height and so um and that not seeing that on there makes me makes me wonder if, if that is something just because when talking about helping students develop sensitivities towards issues that are yeah, you know. Around it. I just thought that that might be helpful just to think about it could. Yeah, and we obviously look at that internally. These classes are just specifically from the inside, okay? So this is how they have to define it. So when I go in the SSCs system these are exactly what I fill out. So whether it's race color religion, Yeah, it's not something that's listen. Now they are Yeah, physical. Yeah, you know, that would make sense of something like that but um, when we're sticking specifically. So that's why these are the areas where they specifically, These are all kinds of classes but other distinguishing characters are not the finest things that they lump them in. Yeah, that was coming from is not seen God to meet you this other night when we don't investigate things that don't rise to A level of being one of the characteristics. That is exactly in some way protected. So that's where none would come into, right? So, we typically would not investigate then but we would investigate. If there was something if there was something going on of the child is clearly, there's something that's upsetting them. So we may investigate to determine is our distinguishing characteristic, and there may be not right. So that's where that none would come too. Um, so here's a comparison 23 to 24 and 24 to 25. You can see we had 11 total reports last year, and we have 15 this year, but when it comes to the investigation, it was the same as last year. We had eight, there were Investigative Assurance report period one and we had eight or investigated this year and report period. So how are we addressing HIV within the schools? So the anti boink coordinator myself, the middle school and high school ANTI-BOYING specialist, we attended a Strauss, as me, associates training on HIV shot, says Meeting who was is the offer mood work with for our policies. So we attended a training on that back at the end of September, we worked with the high school, graphic, arts program to develop, stopit flyers targeting specific grade levels, and they were hanging over there at one point. When you walked in, they've now been switched out, but then those fires are hanging around the schools, and that allows students to report anonymously if something and not even just HIV with stop it. But it's also school safety, all those things as well. We hosted a virtual information session For the community provided by njapsa legal one that was centered around the anti Boeing Bill of Rights and Harassment intimidation Boeing. We actually partnered with two other districts had in Township and Berlin Burrows. So that allowed us to cut down on the cost on that and that's something that we're hoping moving forward. We can make more of a yearly thing because it's also obviously we're educating the students. We all want to educate the community too love and have an understanding that we have in school assemblies with the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. We actually just had an assembly today at the middle school, so and they talk about cyber bullying cyber safety. You know, a whole plethora thing centered around. the cyber world, we created, I create an FAQ on the hip process of parents receive. When their first letter and it kind of just goes through some of the last year, you know, the questions that I feel that. and whatnot. So kind of just goes over that and last parents to kind of have a better understanding of what This process looks like and then we continue to work with administration to address acts of HIV. When they occur work to make it a teachable moment for the students involved. Both offenders and victims. The stop it, flyers. I mean, we've got a huge news with difference in number stock reports. We have had an increase. Yeah, I don't know the exact at it, but it's definitely know they come across my kids. You see one every six months, More frequent. Ly. Yes. We're gonna stop it right about when I was principal stopping things. Like I have a friend. I'm worried. He's drinking a lot. Like, so it's a way to help people out. So it's really powerful as the increase is a good thing, you should necessarily having more problems, actually. Yeah, and we have it, I think we have it out there more like we have some fires hanging around last year but we've made it more. They stand out instead of just being a flyer full of words, we work to the graphic department actually has, you know, graphics. And there's a QR code that the kids can scan on their phones or, you know, provides the codes and everything. So yeah, that helps them report that and some students feel more comfortable reporting something through the device instead of coming to an adult. So like it's getting Through. the school because I Will show it around. Really? Yeah and the fact that we're getting now they're coming in at times what, like, periodically. But for actual instances, that, that would be helpful, that probably shows that the students are understanding that the purpose of making it more. Yes. I mean not programs paper, but Jeff Oh, just quite unfortunately, that's great. Yeah, and rob the the trick the training you reference that the anticholing specialist participated in this year that's on top of all the training they've had in years prior. Oh yeah yeah so out of our training is for legal one we use which is njpsa legal one so they have to do 16 hours which they all did. Last year, we all did a 16 hour training. refresher for some of them and then we're now moving towards doing this. So I took the two because it is there is a price tag with this, right? So I took the two middle, the Middle Swan, High School, this year, the plan is next year to take the elementary kind of pivot back and forth between the two and then obviously we come back and we debrief, you know, with the other group boy did so. And That we talked about it last year a little more. It's I always say three or four year training cycle, so it's never a one done kind of thing, right? He's kind of things evolved how harassment intimidation going happens. Evolves electronic means and that that annual training schedule helps, our abs is ensure they're staying. On top of things. The same current, it's not only the practices. Look at the law and things that change the policies. Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, it's interesting. The highlight changing AI is obviously a thing and the first AI case just went the Supreme Court we learned when we went back in September. Um, so that was an interesting thing. Obviously been involve us thankfully but it was an interesting thing to hear. How that? How that played out. You know. so basically what so what they were doing is someone was writing prompts getting ai to generate this. And getting ai to generate like stuff, so yeah. All of that. This was all included in that they were creating images. There was a yeah so yeah but that was Yeah yeah. I don't know when I went but I know we learned about it. So, including this, so that's the HIV part violence. And vandalism report is also report that we have to provide twice a year. This information is put into the state student, database specifically centered around suspensions. These are the seven categories. I'm not gonna read all the words up there but these are the seven categories. When I go in ssds that I will log things under HIV violence, vandalism threat theft substance offense under influence or substance possession and then other incidents leading to removal. It's for the breakdown for elementary school. Central and Haddon, had no suspensions in the first reporting. First, half of the year, Tatum had one. That was listed as in other incident. HMI HMS for report period. One had one in-school, suspension one out of school suspension. two, three-day suspend out of school, suspensions in one, five, the outest school, suspensions, and then you can see in the pie chart there, 41.7% was HIV number of days out and 58.3% was other incidents. Leading terminal other instruments. Usually that comes down to you know, inappropriate language. You know how you talk to a teacher, how you talk to a student, something like that. in case you're wondering what other Internet is hmhs for report period, one one in school. Suspension want one, two day out of school suspension and one three day out of school. Suspension one was centered around violence with 60%. Total number of days and HIV was 40% for total number of days. And then this is across the district, culmination of what it is. And you can see right there, Other incidents was 41.2%, HIV was 41% and then violence was 17.6 percent. And this is a comparison to where you see. We were last year to this year last year for in school suspensions. We had a total of three at this time, three days, this year we have three days. So we're the same way. Sure for out of school suspensions were 34 This year, we were down to 17. So, when I think that drop off is a reflection of a few things, I think it's obviously the work that the high school. On with their code of conduct and how they address things. I also think it's, at the middle school, and if you remember last year, when I did this at the middle school, we saw a drop the second half of the year and suspensions and that's contributes. I think a very proactive approach that Mr. Rubin took last year. Mr. Toront started, Mr. Ruben continued. And now this year with Mr. McHale and Mr. Ruben there, you know, they've continued that trying to be very proactive and on top of things they've all so, have really leaned in the Saturday, detentions a little bit more instead of, you know, doing it in school suspension, and removing a student from that educational setting or instead of giving them a Saturday attention, what you're finding in. A lot of cases carries more weight, right? Kids don't want Saturday attention so on. So it's carrying a little more weight. Yeah, exactly. Right. Where you have to come for three hours and do school work, right? So, on a Saturday, so they're finding and they're definitely leaning into that a lot more. When it comes to that we don't have to report those. We don't report Saturday the tensions at all. They just attention. The only thing we've reported to the state isn't going out with suspensions. So that's it. You have any questions we receive any state data with average genetics? I have to soon. We are very very low for HIV incense. I would imagine right which is fortunate, but did they do any state reporting at all? So I don't get any state that I did last year and it's on the I can share with you. It's on the it's on the website right now. I went and did my own data dive and kind of collected stuff and yes, we are. We're definitely below. We're yeah. Exceptional, if you compare us other similar districts, both J districts and when you come to district became accounting, we're extremely well. Um, so, but but it's also, it's also hard too because every district looks at things differently, right? So there was some districts when I did last year I had zero hips for the entire district, which is, That. Is that for real, right? Like so, Yeah. Is it typical for? middle school to see sort of the highest levels of behavioral challenges kids? Start, you know. Absolutely. And then by high school, their little bit better, they're more mature. Yeah, I think that's when they're starting to, you know, obviously go through puberty. Why a lot of get their cell phones, you know, starting in, you know, while we're middle school, maybe even upper elementary school. And some of the instances we had this year, we're specifically centered around, you know, cyber bullying, if you will. Um, so Yeah, no, it's definitely and if you look at across the state, right? And I go to and I talk to other anti-boying coordinators and stuff, middle school is definitely the area where you would expect to see that, right? And if any, you know, not that you want to see that, but if that's where it's gonna, that's a chance where we can address these things before they get to adulthood. And before, you know, issues become a bigger thing. So um, yeah, so when we see those issues there, that's where we Regulator address Speak to that for secular at workshop. I did attend a workshop on specifically that on the middle school. kids, and those kinds of things. So, I will double check with to see if I have any resources from that and share with everybody, because right, It was pretty good presentation, but from a legal aspect. But then also from a leadership aspect, I mean it makes sense right when you tax people about what are the years school that you enjoyed? The least God bless middle school teachers? Because I feel like everyone I bet you know and tell me which middle school like you are. Yeah. Yeah, that's three years. He's gonna look back in Love. Middle School right on the computer. So awesome. Well, thank you very much, guys. Okay. thank you Rob let's go on to maybe reports make curriculum we actually covered that last okay you know totally forgot. I was not here. Lastly you That's right. Um, Greg you just had finance, right? Or did you we had an Video. we talked about, For all the sporting events hosted here. The reason for it helps plan, it's no cash transactions, there's no counting. It has to be done after the fact. That will not go into effect. In. 2000, the second half of the school year. It'll start next January and it's for football. Basketball and wrestling. So, we've We're gonna, you know, move on to that. The stormwater pipe failure out back will be awarding a bid and hopefully, by the end of February to get that fixed. disappointed bathrooms, we wanted a little update on The quality or the worship. Any work that needs to be done. We should have that report next month. It's we're waiting on one school. The team is reviewing that the Team Mike's team is reviewing that. Custodial management. R&p went out there reviewing the bids and we should see next month that an award of that bed, Summer in Richmond program has been a discussion for financial perspectives is there's no more esser funds. And we're trying to figure out due to the construction to even have room to have summer enrichment and if we deal will be a pay to play activity, we're trying to come up with the finances, but the main issue is do we have room for it? There's a PT PTA donation from Haddon. That will be accepted. The ones of something. What's it called? The I have to say it was called a Willy goat. The difference. And it's not going to be. They're gonna put it up, it's a community way of any new referendum. Didn't have a name. PTA of Taylor wanted to do it. Something we had a couple more questions around it, so we're gonna Table that and discuss it next month. And then the We're going to start talking about the 2025-2006 budget. Which will be challenging based on the economic factors going in. But We're having separate finance meaning just around budget to make sure we're focused on that go forward. The questions with respect to the ticket mandate grant, you want to share what we talked about with respect to convenience fees and like, seeing their citizens That those where areas of concern good point, senior citizens will be To free free. If you guys season ticket the convenience fee goes down. Students are free. So we, we did the best to to lower. Our students are free, which is right? Okay. 90% of our students are free activity. Visiting students would not. but the presentation was very thoughtful that they, you know, considered ways that this will improve efficiency and then the ways that it could be harder to try and mitigate those Yeah. Thank you. The other thing that I do want to mention and it's a shame that Jack is in here, but you know, we all know we sat here when Cammy Shim aboard, Rep came here and talked to us about the bathroom situation. we're not using those bathrooms every single day, but the kids are and, you know, we're came and talked to us about it and the fact that we're doing in district. Why? the assessment of every single bathroom and you know, Michael is not just like is the bathroom good. It's it's it sinks are the toilets are they you know, they going down. 20 questions. Just yeah, you know, full assessment. So thank you for doing that. And it's a shame that we don't have our student here to hear that. They what they do. And say, at this meeting does make a So, Good stuff. Okay. Policy. Matt, did you do it last week or two last week? Yes. Um, Linda Lrft? Yes, we had a meeting today and I want to start by commending. We have on Twinkie here, our district architect and the administration team they been doing a lot of work. still they're meeting with the books internally, trying to look at how do we bring as much? to to the community as possible with The little disruption as possible. And what we heard today, I think was really impressive. So the thought is we're going to address the things that the referendum that said, these are our priorities and we're going after those things. And the other thing that we're doing is we're going to be very aggressive with the timeline trying to be inflation. So the more that, that these projects can be front loaded, you know, we don't have to worry about inflation five years down the road even though that is built into all of the finance information, that we looked at the more we get done. Now, the better. So we do have a list of what our goals are. To get done by 2025. These are goals, and we are saying in advance that these are ambitious, but we think This is the managed. We know that things happen, it's January and this is what we hope to have done by the end of 2025. but, Ada Stadium seating in place limited, well, they kindergarten and I'm gonna ask Mr. Klaus to talk a little bit more about any of these kinds of details. But limited, A portion of full day, kindergarten the HMS auditorium by the end of 2025 beginning of 2026, the Apr flooring for three out of four schools, This cure vestibule for the hmhs starting some interior alterations in our schools and two non referendum items but still things that will be done. the turf field and the hmhs elevator. So I think that that is a pretty impressive list to say that, we think that we're going to get these done by the end of 2025, and we'll keep communicating to the community. This is where we are here as details unfold. We'll share more of those but I don't know a little bit more about that highlights the And Ron and his team injected a great job hearing, listen to what we care about and making sure they adjust your schedule. So the biggest project coming up this this summer is the middle school auditorium. Which is a significant job. Um, they'll start the summer. There's a biggest species of baby that has to happen. But that will be done by the fall, by winter break next year. So that that auditorial will be complete. No, completely redo the end of Forum, 200 additional seats, big projects, all the other all or below the area there. Well, that will do will allow the high school auditorium, then begin the spring, So by winter break of 26, you go to tourism be completed completely redo which is an amazing thing, right? That's gonna be a big house. Cannot downplay the kindergarten word that came out. so, so Kindergarten's Was one of our radar because the governor announced me to push, he's determined me before they kindergarten mandatory and push down pre-K. Working with Ron and his team, we believe will be able. There's some still some things of work out of little things that move around, we believe they have several sex ever, a couple sessions of kindergarten that veil Bruce available to start a kindergarten program, fully kindergarten. It will be a lottery based It'll be intuition basis. We can't just give some kids full, they kindergarten not other kids, right? So we'll be another schools. Have done this. Had done this works. A lottery based full day kindergarten to us but we believe we'll be able to get two sections of kindergarten 50, students, in September 25. That's Eight months. to clarified. That is temporary with the full day, right? Three kindergarten is down the road When the construction was, right? I just didn't want to go in the papers and people think that. Oh, so we're hoping that's just the phase it and to clarify when you're saying full day kindergarten and she know, you like be able to correct me too. We do have some students that is part of their IEPs, however, kindergarten, correct. So when we talk about those sections, that would be Non-classified full-day students or so it would include the classified, students reading with more to put together plan. Right? So me with the elementary school principles is direct special at the martyr. Luke work on the details of playing. There's things that have to happen like our our schedule to change because the gym space, because now we have the kindergartenship Jennifer Kindergarts. So there's things. We have to do work out there. We have to find some locations for some speech and SGI to make sure to do this. But we believe but I wouldn't be saying it, we weren't pretty confident that we'll be able to make. This happen is September 25, which is We talked a lot about. Do we wake up? It's all I can go really or not plan to not let perfect be the enemy of career, right? Obviously it would be great if we could have complete full day. Kay right away. But the fact that you're moving forward with what we can do, it'll be a lottery system. Not I'll give you the example. How layout would be if there's two sections, they'll say this, that's 50 kids. So, let's say we'll use 48, My math would be like I can't go in thirds of Which that would be 16 kids first school. So if we would just put Lottery 48 Spots. It would be 16 from Central 16 from Tatum 16, from Haddon. They would go back to their homeschools. First grade, okay, right. So you go back to home school for a great and then even those kids when they get the first grade would be different sections, you would have all eight kids in one section that. So, but that's kind of what we're looking at right now. It's pretty exciting. Because I, you know, when I think I'm in our minds and my mind like I was like, I'm not sure we can do this, but Ron and Jeff did a great job of being able to free up some space for us, make sure that happens with, with additions the work being done, it had in the summer where the library is gonna be converted. The three classrooms and it tell you where the library to put Dot PT space and then they can move there. but when you listen to what, when you looked at the questions, the questions were When is kindergarten start? Yeah. What if there's another so we know this is a project we this is our priority anyway, we knew that the accessibility that But we really know we wanted to they say let's not hold perfect. Let's start forward. So that's one of the bigger things in there. Um There's other things that are happening and the other thing is happening, too. that won't be ready in 25. The story in 25 is the 1890s building. Next, the old board office now in the launch in the fall. And by September of 26th, that'll be done, which means that's more space for more hitting on. So it'll be, it's not going to be two and then nine who need two. and then five the so we'll be as we as we make space available, we'll be doing that. So it's really It's exciting. But I mean, when you, when you read the list it's a lot. and I have to commend the working that I keep talking watching the back, he's a little bit but meeting with, I mean, like Jeff Roswell runs on co-worker Jeff. Like he's actually walking in around with teachers tomorrow to find how they use the computer lab, how they use your space. So as they design the space, we're doing that. We're meeting with end user. So we're talking about you auditorium, we had three hour meeting with everybody uses Middle School, Auditorium. What do you need? How do you use it? What's best here? So we're really trying to make sure it's done not just complet About thoughtfully. And it is exciting stuff. We're looking for this working. and so I it was wonderful to see, everybody's faces like the surprise is like, Oh my gosh. Yeah, that's the way. It's all really exciting and I think that it is It's the the planning work that they've done. And you know what we talked about is we're going to start seeing we're gonna start seeing bits mid March. The bits are gonna We're going to start getting reports on that, we're going to have to be, you know, awarding bids March, April, May, and all of these things have to start happening. So that that work can be done in the summer so some of the stuff can be ready in the fall. So very ambitious and and really pleased that that's the approach that that they're taking and I think, again kudos who are internal team as well. I know that this is a lot of work on top of their normal jobs. So and I live news our newsletter comes out next week. I will talk about some of the other projects like when we start the second floor at Tatum and when will when is the Hopkins? Carls we're going. So all those other things all address Roughly when they're coming in. So people have an idea because I because you we heard those things. But people have. Oh, what about What about Mother? Yeah. So we'll get that out there. Um, But so so that's what's outside. And one of the things that's I I would not have realize because I'm English teacher here Superintendent. I The design and gym takes six to eight months run. But the six five to six months to do this schematic. So there's certain things you have couldn't simply happen this summer because you can't get it done in time and demolition and the demolition. That's that, that's why we all you can't even start designing the field. It's so cool. Down to do survey. So that push everything back a little bit. moving the buildings but it's exciting stuff. And and the real challenge if you guys, I'm sure we all realize. the real challenge because we're moving mean offices and doing those things. Hey, thank you. Very exciting us. That's really great. Anyone have any PTA updates? Okay. Dr. Priolo We had our two hour delay early in a week and we are teaming. We have leadership team meeting this week and we, we always look to get better. What we do. and has some discussion there. And Matt actually said, unless you needed for couple minutes later, thank you very much, but we had two hours away on Month on Tuesday. And one of the things I was talking about some of the leader team leaders about was, It's always been there since we put those in, it's always been the day after MLK Day. um, Rod improved. Next year's calendar. So, this is kind of this is without it. This is. This is one of those things. Moving that to February 2nd would be much more advantageous. We think of what's happening this week. So we have midterms this week, the high school That analysis. They can't analyze any data for this, right? So this would be give a chance to go back and look at that. They're the middle school. Is taking benchmark, not testing now This about it actually elementary school or doing certain testing. Now the I ready Not ready for data today. So I'm looking to consider a move next year's data day from their MLK day, Two seconds. We've already proved the calendar but it's not a day off, not really useful how that, right? So I'm gonna I'm looking to move back. That's a calendar gets really fine, right? That's okay. I mean, all the more reason we want to get it right. Oh yeah. I booked my vacation, right? Yeah. I mean it's one of You know, you have the confirmation bias if we made it that way. Sort of say that much that's not the right thing to do. Yeah, but it's also it's also one of those things where things do once a year You kind of forget to living that that right? Yeah we forget what it's like the midterms and in this testing last year because it's six months away from a building camera. So if no one jacks, I'm gonna build the new calendar moving that day we can. And just reapprove it. It's supposed to be for PD and for really, that's right. we'll have all your midterm. Not that. Well, that gives them something. To dig into. The Groundhog Day. the Groundhog Day my Groundhog Day. So here we'll say. It's usually a week or was it the Monday after Super Bowl? Well, that's good. but actually, I did have a quick question about that when we look at like the data that's being analyzed, and I know you were talking about a certain benchmarks and the tests and the midterms does that I don't know, the calendar. I'll stop my head. That does that give enough time for the marking period to be over and all of that gradient like is that before that after that that should be the perfect. That's just sweet spot. The greatest you should have just finished. But okay, so that's what I wanted to just make sure like what was Know, it's Like well yes it's day tomorrow. Monday and Tuesday. Okay is midterms right? Okay. Right. So for this year, that would be, it gives you like 10 days. Okay? Great a little stupid fresh too. Yeah. Okay. I don't have anything. So, let's just move on to Oakland public comment. Members of the community everybody to speak for up the three minutes at this time. If you'd like to make an additional comment, please wait until each person. Is that a chance to make their initial statement. All comments must be directed towards the board. Not members of the public according to our bylaws comment session camera. No longer than one hour. This is an opportunity for the board to listen but not debate. Issues are at our question and answer period. Please be aware that not only, she's brought up a four board, meeting will be resolved. And would like to make a comment. Hello, welcome to the new people here. I've been here a little bit Carol Stoner on Avondale Avenue, just a couple things. I just wanted to share that. We have no live feed over there tonight. Not sure what's going on so we can see your words. There's just nothing there. So, well, you can see from here, there's nothing on the screen, right? Yeah. Ours is thinking, Oh, ours is the same as yours so I could you see the words systems. It's hard to hear back there. So we really do count on seeing the words but there's nothing on the screen. Oh, next time, I didn't want to. I anyway, um, one thing that you'd mentioned is that you mentioned pre-K, when you mentioned full day kindergarten, I didn't know exactly what you meant by that. So that was one, you mentioned pre-K multiple times and I'm not sure as a plan for pre-K other than the preschool or what the plan is for that, it wasn't clear. kind of a completely unrelated statement, but the Wall Street Journal just came out with an article that states that screens that take over classrooms and students have had enough. Handfield School District has changed i-ready math. This year, from everyday math, and it has an extremely heavy screen usage. I'm not sure if you guys are aware of what the program is or who they were geared for. It is heavy on screen time. I was wondering what year chromebooks are now issued in the Hampton School. District we're older. So our kids barely got chromebooks. I think it's middle school now. My other kids never have it all but I was wondering what Are they issued what year? IPads issued to our kids? And who is tracking? How long are students are on them during the day? And how do we get this information? So, because of math being so heavy and it's it's important. But so are other things I just wonder who's watching that. So it was a very interesting Wall Street Journal article. I'm very concerned about screen time. I see it with my grandkids, it's tough to fight so I just That's right. Thank you, Narcos today. It just came out yesterday, just the Wall Street Journal. It was a very interesting article that I thought. So I'm not Facebook Page. I'm gonna hand foot in the Nose Republic page. It is on there, there. Just Very interesting. Art of kids are they're screaming out. Like we like our kids. We didn't have that. Our kids said we had paper, we copy paper. It's at paper in front of them and I understand that computers are a really important, but they're also is important to get away from that stuff and just look at paper and look at the screen. Like, it's just so I just wonder who's tracking that in our school district. So we could try to maybe scale back a little bit for them. Yeah, that's it. So much research has come out of hand like the benefit. Writing, actually. And what you remember, I always make my students like, you have to write this and But can I be a control also make your brand? Yes, No. There's a journal article that just came out of here with the board that the bunks that That says the data isn't as clear as well. I think it's also probably a learning preference because just have to write, I have to write. I have to see it. And I could never look at. I was still remember it better, and if I did and I had in front of me and I could don't tell my just, like, pretty stuff out and research. Yeah, I find right. generation? Yeah, yeah. In modality. It's me went back to person. Yeah. What is a quick shout out? Like I know in the middle school, like They're from what I'm seeing is a good balance between both of that. I the study guides that are printed out like my son gets things handed home that he has to hand right out and he's just like like he was complaining in the beginning of the year and he's like, Mom, oh my God. I got a 95 on my desk because like, I remember it all from handwriting from go and so that they're so they're using both and it's nice to kind of see. That happening? Yeah. And I think the kids making it's interesting. It's also you're not going to realize unless it's compulsory because you think this is a lot easier to type it, but it's the handwriting, it means monotonous, but I do think For me anyway, but all right but thank you for sorry, a good conversation. Hello, my name. Stephanie. Weinstein Colonial, Ridge Drive. Um, thank you all for your service. Following the previous conversation. I have three students in the district. One needs to use the screen time, so we appreciate the option for that. The one in elementary school does not require it, and that might be a place to check how much screen times. We've noticed significant use there to the point of the squinkie twitchy eyes that you sometimes see if your kids play, lots of video games, we're seeing that when he comes home from school sometimes. So and then to pivot separately, I wanted to go to the presentation that mentioned discipline. And I would just ask The board to consider and understand how intent and disability are factored into investigations. when there are allegations of misconduct and particularly to consider how out of school suspension is being used for students with disabilities since they are impacted significantly, more they're obviously receiving services in school and being out of school would present even a greater challenge and just to check to see and make sure that we're being equitable and discipline and that it is serving the purpose of educating students and guiding them towards appropriate. behavior. Thank you. Any other comments? Okay. Let's close public comments. This week so Marlena. Hi, sorry I'm late. That's okay. it's Still not up. Yeah. Can we do that? The feed isn't is an on over here because you know how it was though? It was it wasn't so wrong presented. and then like this this is a reasonably distribution, it is but I thought a would see it on the other side but you That's why. This and then we'll get this morning. Okay. I told I Yes. Midterm score. Yeah. Okay, I'll talk faster. Questions or comments. We have a couple retirees. First, the first of the year coming up, we're sorry. So we have your Jill Cotlin who was a part-time PE help feature at all? Elementary schools. Jill, she made very relevant for our youngest, our youngest learners She loved me on the community and one thing I heard over it she was always had a smile even like drop off and pick up. She's at their smile with the kids getting to know them, she works hard, she's dependable and just really well like she's gonna be she can't go s*** out of time for and work with us now. So she's gonna be there. She made a real big impact for part-time person over the years and Lisa Black. 25 years in the district, she's sixth grade. Social studies teacher. I actually met me so I became when I was a My skin is a Central school principal Lisa was a second, great teacher, so I didn't know her then, I might I'd like spending time or classroom that I still expect from now. Middle school. Um, and it was really important to Lisa. Truly important that her kids grew and learned, that was really not a lot to her. She put a lot of time and effort in making sure that happened. So it was nice to be around the cases, nice work with the kids, but she really wanted to Put the time effort to make sure that they did grow. So she's gonna be missed. she has our she's got a new grand granddaughter and I know she's gonna be I'll explain a lot of time there and Horizon to say, can you go home a little bit sometime. So I think that's gonna happen. So we're gonna miss both Geo and I'd like to congratulate you, Oh well. Let's take me up. just is a matter of healthy, the one who went chaperone person, your class trip That was the first time I've seen that. I'm one of our things and someone wondering what our policy is with respect to tricks, like the senior trip that are Are they like a hybrid in terms of or they fully sponsored by the school? This is full. So it's really a student. Who's going some new trips who requires one-on-one, okay? And so we have to provide that. So we have a teacher who's ready to go down and when they hit Disney Parks, he's gonna be with that student, making sure that the student and these are met and students, oftentimes Children with this level of need, they're not on, they're on the same trip, but they're not actually doing the same things, right? And causing the pace, these trips like somebody to the trip is blue. Um, that's right for the case too, you know your first hours 24 hours live. Wait but so even like things like How do you go back to the hotel, to the rest? The chaperone will take them back with the kids, go back to the hotels by themselves. So that's we've had this happen before and a couple times so it's not it's not not often, but happens more frequently than The more you think? So that's not, I was just curious because the students still have to pay for this year. Just like, right? So okay, they need in order to access the trip, we pay for the day, we send a nurse because medical emergency We will have our nurses. Great. Thank you. Mike. This Hollywood. Yes Mr. Knuckles.
