before they sit down they were here for you [Music] okay you don't have the high school rep no she'll be here at 5:30 so we can do the promise own presentation yes okay last order last item for the special order business is the promise Zone presentation there everyone my name is Fernando mon I'm the executive director of the hael black for those who are not familiar with what we do we are the college access scholarship organization here for your students at the park we work with uh all three of our high schools Park High School a manage alternative and invest uh our goal here is to get our students to reach whatever their goal is for postsecondary right so whether that is College Community College foure University a trade school a job our goal here is to help them not only through coaching and mentorship but also financially we do offer various scholarships and incentives to get our students to apply to attend and to into remain enrolled until graduation uh just a couple things to highlight over the summer uh we hire a new staff member in the promise Zone uh so we have expanded our program to better service of students this new person is going to be our new success coach at uh open Community College where she'll be working full-time with our lni who attend that school there is an an added layer on top of all the support you get at OC to make sure that our students are enrolling in class are making the best decisions they can make and also graduating after hopefully two years just to show you some numbers over the summer every summer we always work uh to support our students who have applied to schools but perhaps have not made a decision to attend U perhaps they have completed all the steps to enroll so we worked with over 140 students of whom uh between all three schools F have over 440 applications that is colleges uh trade schools military uh I believe a personal record for us and we are hoping to break that record we are already halfway there for this year uh all those 400 and something applications our students fill out of the 140 something students that we worked with over the summer over 80 close to 90 students St made a decision to attend somewh we worked with them to make sure that they fill out all the paperwork and make sure they fill out the F work we sure that they fill out all the steps necessary to be involed and ready to go by the next school year um and we are hoping that again for the next year we break our personal records and we are getting more students between the three schools to enroll in colleges trade schools or just get a job and make sure that they communication with us throughout their postsecondary career thank you okay next we're going to go on to public comment if anybody's going to speak they have to fill out one of these forms I have three up here um the Board of Education recognizes the value of public comment on educational issues and the importance of allowing members of the public to express themselves in District matters to permit to permit fair and orderly public expression the board shall provide a period of for public participation at public meetings of the of the board and publish rules to govern such participation in board meetings and in board committee meetings the rules shall be administered and enforced by the presiding officer of the meeting presiding officer shall be any individual to stop speaking and or leave the meeting when the person behaves in a manner that is disruptive and orderly disc conduct and or orderly progress of the meeting request the assistance of law enforcement and removal of of a disorderly person when that person conducts interferes with the orderly progress of the meeting call for a recess or an adjournment to another time when the lack of public decorum so interferes with the conduct and of order the conduct of the meeting as a warrant such it action wave these rules with the approval of the board when necessary for the protection of privacy or the administration of the board uh business and um you are not to use anyone's name when you're making discussion about anything up at that Podium so if there's anyone wishing to speak I have four and the first one is Janice Howard hi there going to edit a little bit because I have names but two of you over the last few years have frequently asked speak of school board meeting here I am I know it's not the way you two would like but here I am over the past two years I have watched this board Vi at divides everyone in the city knows there is a divide the students parents teachers the kids a true leader does not create separation a true leader brings people together I know speaking here nothing will change but a bare minimum at least maybe it will put things in perspective and this board maybe after the election can come together and start behaving for the kids and not your indivual gratification of being better than the other superintendent you have told me many times that you love how I get things done and ensure that there's accountability I've come to realize these past couple months that that's only true when it's directed towards people you want it to be not your little clicks OS in your guys' power trips anytime someone comes to you with research and accountability you instantly shut it down however this shouldn't be shocking because you pull this when B comes to the school board meetings with all of her research as any valuable School Board member should do it just gets discarded valuable information every time I have come with a concern it's been supported by video evidence and acknowledged and just nothing happens because it's your FR group while on the subject there are bylaws that no school board spouse should be a staff member for this exact reason there's a reason because once hired there's a power trip please inform me what other person can just come in get a job with no experience in school no experience in athletics and definitely no experience in handling parental concerns I want to know why people think that this board you want to know why people think the board member's husband is an ad that's because that's how they introduce him so maybe you should get with him and let him know exactly what his job f is there was a conversation with volunteers that dedicate multiple hours of their life between superintendent and the volunteers where they were trying to hold accountable to things that were told to them superintendent denied denied denied told everyone not to listen to anything that she's the only one that's right and in fact this was the event that prompted that podcast so you could put all that to the side and then because you know how foolish made you look in that conversation about the kids where was the trainer last year on all these athletic events your fellow board member and staff sitting on the sideline of Junior Vikings practice talking in front players how we're nothing without them but when she was at offer to be part of it she denied to do anything with it your school board member outside an elementary school on the talking about how my husband Marine coward is digging his own grave is that about the kids especially considering many of these kids look up to this individual for the several opportunities he has created over these last 10 years your a school board member's husband has multiple in incidents of threatening volunteers and making nasty comments to them he refuses to do anything when on the clock at a junior Viking event is that proper use of your school district time is up I will email this my all four pages to everybody on the board because there's plenty of detail thank you next I have Andrew kmh Helmer ready I'm ready I'm here to elction tomorrow and all this viig and Janice got so many good points holy smok she was up here and she can't get that done in 3 minutes so you all know that make sure when you go to the poos tomorrow you pick the people that want to change I'm not going to punch no more time for change everybody knows what to do everybody knows about how we going to come back together I'm calling for a call of action everybody that's been out been pushed away everything let's get everybody back together do what we need to do it's just time you shake this person's hand you tell him thank you for the job theyve done and you let him move on as simple as that I'm not going to S and talk about the blueprint that we had to have never I'm not going to talk s tell us that our culture is dead that we got to put in some prison reform we got to teach our children how to behave I'm not going to tell you that go from my my family direct your comments to the board okay she told my by the way my mom mom you know that never have anyways so as I go through this and I think about all these things it just comes out of common anom sooner or later what street you grew up on who you related to you can't go around just telling everybody to go home we're going to start talking each other it's not always going to be 9 years ago and he doesn't like her because of personal reasons another person about it nothing about now he's deess every semester at B 3.9 you told go home you robbed his opportunity of his lineage to be up on that wall All State football player you did that so when you go to the polls you remember you're not going to have Community or you going to have her vision of your her community un let's say the polls go our way and the vote goes our way let's see if she stays in her house let's see if her grand kids SCH school here let's see if she's a part of community for the rest of her lives is everybody got 100 years director to the board everybody's got here in 100 years especially last night you guys long time bull cing I know guys have a nice thank you next we have Kim Allen I should be in bed right now dealing with my cancer not here dealing with the junior Vikings drama because some people can't their OS aside my grandson's name should be on the wall for wrestling because of the house but because now because of all the drama because of certain board members they're leaving so now where's my grandson going to go what's he going to do he has nothing to do now 140 kids are being put back out on the streets because of certain board members because certain board members can't put their egos aside and they put kids back out on the streets because someone wants to maybe call the health department or someone wants to I don't know get their husband to pretend he's worried about someone else this is getting ridiculous my grandson has Asbergers and looked forward to going to practice there's other kids who looked forward to going to practice to get out of their homes because they had bad home lives and because of this board they have nothing to do anymore because you pushed them out and the lies the lives All Season were on Flipping wheel and you got good you got good people that you pushed out you got good families that you got rid of do you know how many families are pulling their kids out of the school district because of these board members I live across the street from the high school and I'm about ready to pull my grandson out of school here he can walk to Hoover and I'm pulling them because of these board members because of their egos because this person is upset because their friend is friends with other people are you kidding me all for what for what because you don't like the Howards anymore are you kidding me because their son didn't get to play as much football as they wanted to or because someone got their panties in an uproar over something other people have bigger issues in life rather than who likes who and who doesn't like who I'm sorry right now that's all I have to say right thank you okay and last we have Sasha satzman I'm not from people par like most people years ago my decided to come to H park because your special education program um I know I'm not supposed to name names but someone told me to get a particular teacher recognize that this would be the place to do um and so I wanted to recognize Jennifer United a million gems from Miss Sims to miss Mrs V to um all the fifth grade staff but miss mon Roos is the reason why we continue to stay here um and it's because of her that my son who has autism and ADHD learned how to read the mere mention of his name and he's a senior now um at high school she starts crying when they see each other it's like forgotten family that hasen't seen each other in years um I hope that she is recognized she is loved in a way and she loves my children in a way that I've never felt before um once a child leaves a special education program because of how Junior High in high school is unfortunately they do get a little bit more lost um in things so that would be my one piece of advice I have a senior who is struggling and struggling Beyond me he goes to your virtual Viking Academy and it is a struggle to get him to graduate he is an IEP student who has the education level of a sixth grader and so my biggest piece of advice would be to try to tailor your special education program around these special amazing students um he is a remark a child but his education path has been completely different from my daughter Amar who is at the junior high who is adid in cross country and track Orchestra you name it she loves to go here as does my kindergarten with Miss Deus um but the one piece of advice would be is to add and appreciate your special education students more and especially give give more knowledge to parents more parent involvement when it comes to figuring out how they're going to graduate what their life is going to be outside of here U my son also did play for the junior Vikings and while I'm not going to get into that I will say that they need some help it is a beautiful program um because of this my son is you know because of Janice my son is doing private lessons with another football coach because that's what he wants to love them you know again I'm not going to get into that but they need some help in order for that to flourish sports did something for my son who was an IEP student last year he was having the issues to now his teachers at his first I meeting are telling me all the remarkable things that my son sincere is doing um so I hope you guys nourish that program we would love to come back and and be local we want to stay here and continue to be here um I love the things that you're doing like the portrait of a learner I wish that we would have more Community involvement with our parents um my teachers that that I interact with they're family they're not teachers that is they're sa in my phones we talk to each other out side of school um so I hope that you guys take heed to the success that is going on at United Oaks um between the fifth grade teachers Miss fence Miss Dem and especially Miss moners thank you okay next we'll move on to consent agenda uh can I get a motion to approve the consent agenda please I make a motion to approve the consent agenda as written support support any discussion roll call please forers yes R yes Beaton yes hon yes the Fran boys yes yes next we have new business Rick I think our high school reps are here we may want to okay of [Music] you want to get up [Applause] and I am Quinton beverin and I'm a 10th grader at Hazel Park High School hello I'm for I'm 11th gr High School I I'm Jeremiah K I'm a current senior in Park High School and we got a lot to uncover today because this is the first war meeting for the school year first okay guys so just let you know this Wednesday the first C marking is about which means that doesn't go into trans it's only going to be kind for pro support and students still have a chance to get keep their grades up and hopefully earn an a special so encourage students to still do well so for the end semester and also we as you may know lot Power we use myar we now use power school I know students and teachers have hopefully find that use to using a new program but we're all working together to try to used to it every month we now have well we always have row means for each grade form events or information each month now have two ing at Homework the homework centers from Monday to Thursday at 3: to 4:00 p.m. so in case of any student need any help with assignments I know um basic F on math English important things about that there's teachers there to help them and encourage them to keep going okay uh so homecoming was last month and it was Halloween themed we had door decorating contests and um we had door decorating contests for for it and everyone around school got into the homecoming Spirit um Hometown huddle was in September uh for the community to come together and that went really well we had a lot of booths um a lot of different people and everyone was happily excited to go see the first game afterwards um and as far as after school curriculars we have right now we have a the uh Detroit Zoo Alliance we have Bible club uh during every lunch we have a GSA gender sexuality Alliance and we have our new founded connection club that just saved up resources for Hurricane Relief and drama as [Music] well all right so last month was um College month so a lot of seniors went success Valley we got some seniors going to Michigan State and some seniors went to Oakland today they also got the participate in college rep visits very much also last month all senior nights for athletics marching band football volleyball boys soccer was participated um the football team made the playoffs so see them this Friday at Armada High School at 700 p.m. um hbtd released a video last week it was amazing the ASD students do during announcements every morning they also they always do a funny joke to get everyone Spirit up let's talk about the fall show our fall show for drama is It's a Wonderful Life it will be it will be at the Park Junior High not the high school um the the program holds over 50 students in it and one adult um our biking our biking night performance in December F come see our show and show your black and pride thank you thank you okay uh going back to new business the first item is National principal's month can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education accept the resolution for National principal month as presented the board any discussion on that no just uh we are lucky to have an amazing group of Administrators and principes in Hazel Park schools and we appreciate them every day so congratulations and thank you for all the work that you do all right any other discussion can I get roll call please foress yes R yes Beaton yes Hinton is this to approve the resolution yes um any there's a correction that needs to be made it says be it resol Board of Education I really hate to say this of if atantic Community Schools encourages parents sorry so let's read it be resolved that the Board of Education of Hazel Park Community Schools encourages parents Guardians in our community to learn more about the contributions of our School principles and the roles they play in ensuring every child is access to high quality education in a safe supportive environment and let them know how much they are [Music] appreciated so yes I say yes Le boys yes Maggie yes next we have the um Power School can I get a motion [Music] please I make a motion I move the Board of Education purchase the power school's Professional Services as presented support support discussion so uh in order to to upload the last several years of data we need to do an additional purchase and that's what this is is to make sure that we get past grades past transcripts past data and so they are helping to do a data dump into power school and since it was last you know more than 5,000 we brought it to the board for approval it's a additional piece that we did not uh realize that you needed to work with this organization for and so uh we're bringing it to you for approval is this to take data out of my start yes and dump it into your yes to take the the back we have the first year out it's the past year so that we can carry that over is this coming out of the general fund it is coming out of the general fund we didn't get a cover sheet on that that's why I'm asking thank you any other discussion roll call please gous yes R yes beon yes pinton yes Le boys yes naggie yes um next we have Quaver Music can I get a motion for Quaver I move the Board of Education accept the purchase of Quaver Music and the amount not to exceed $6,300 it work discussion good evening board uh so I'm coming forward with a request to approve quer for K8 it is a comprehensive music education curriculum as well as an opportunity for students to interact in very interactive lessons uh one of the areas of focus is music theory I know there was a question around uh how does this impact grades 6 through 8 we do have both a band and a choir class in grades 6 through 8 and so one of the things that students can do is work on music theory their specific Coral related Lon lesons There's an opportunity to do ear training so it's not only a ke5 program with lessons and curriculum there's actually a k curriculum it also gives interactive opportunities for students in K5 as well as 68 as they improve their skills and basic foundational understandings of music music theory and other key components of becoming a strong chorus coral and B so we are requesting approval in the amount of $6,300 and in terms of a strategic plan I know there was a question about how this fit into a strategic plan so if you look at the threeyear plan that was presented back in February of course we're going to do that again at first of the year we did year mark funds in 2024 25 and 2025 26 to do some new curriculum adoption for electives and this would be included in that area is there any questions from the board um just a quick question so in the is this licensing fees if the kids are using in don't is their licensing fees associated with it so next year what would be the cost the same amount you know one of the things that I did not explore was a multi-year you know often if you enter into a multi-year it would be a lower fee because this is a new tool we always like to make sure that what we're purchasing is going to be beneficial to students and and staff we went of the one year but there would be an opportunity in the future to transition to a multi-year which would likely be less than this will they be starting this this year yes they approved the licensees per building or per student any other questions or discussion roll call please [Music] foress I'm sorry I have one more question I'm sorry go ahead it says not to exceeds 6300 I think this is I'm looking at the wrong thing go ahead a yes I'm a yes I'm looking at theong re yes e yes hon yes M BR Bo yes Maggie yes next we have the El levation bilingual program management platform can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education accept the purchase of the E le levitation in the amount of not to exceed $23,000 support So this tool is a comprehensive platform for tracking all the information that we need to track for our El students we are required to track historical data we are required to make sure we're monitoring our students that have exited for three years we are also required to make sure that we are communicating with families on a regular basis we do that already it is a very time intensive process in addition to the platform portal there's also something called strategies and strategies is a tool to not only provide professional learning for ESL teachers it also provides professional learning opportunities for our general education teachers who may have second language Learners in their classroom the final piece this tool does is it provides a very targeted structured lessons that English as second language teacher or a general education teacher can use to provide targeting support one one of the things that um we are seeing in our district is definitely an increase in our students as second language Learners they have also increased the requirement for the minutes that we need to be servicing our students currently we have a really small ESL team this tool would allow our ESL team to really focus on servicing students versus tracking historical data you know uploading it into a spreadsheet searching uh different areas for professional so basically this is a wraparound tool that not only supports our teachers but also helps us be in compliance with all the rules and regulations to typ 3 and OCR you'll notice that this comes out of brand section 41 is a grant that is specifically dedicated to Second Language leers so every year we get Title One or section 41 funds so this tool although now amount to $23,000 would be able to come out that rank most likely a regular basis once again this is a one-year contract if we went to a multi-year that would be less of year so one of the things I think is really important is one uh we recently had an opportunity to an do an onsite review for title three and one of the strong things that came out was our general education teachers really wanting more as it relates to how to teach and support and service the young students the second piece that came out was the fact that we've got a small team of el teachers doing a lot of work and with the amount of minutes that we need to be supporting the servicing this tool would allow us to stream process is this something that Roosevelt students would also be using yes so is it mainly for the Roosevelt building well because that's a larger population certainly but right now I would say in terms of our students we have about you take it's around 400 students maybe a little little higher than that a quarter of that is the students in all of our other schools but section 41 funds we get as a district and so those funds are distributed for all of our schools as well has invest is this a replacement tool or a new initiative that will a new it is new uh this was actually recommended by uh no school district that has really done a lot of work in this area and really has streamlined and increased their processes of procedures and their ability to really track and monitor and support and service all of the students and when I dug into it I thought it was a really powerful tool that will help us do the work that we need to for our teachers as well as our students thanks any other questions or discussion roll call please foress yes Richie yes Beaton yes Pinon yes the brown Bo yes naggie yes next next we have the high school 2024 SBN Festival can I get a motion for the festival please I move the Board of Education approve the Hazel Park delegates to attend the fian festival for the 20242 school year support support so this was the same Festival that our team went to last year with Mr Fair brother it's the one that Christy Gardner received a very distinguished award um that helped her and her future endeavors and drama it's also where Reggie was recognized so it's an opportunity to build the program build leadership within the drama club um so we were just asking if the board would approve for up to about 12 students to go again this year it is a two night over stay and Mr Fair brother would be staying with them as well is it two nights or three nights two school nights I'm well no it's Thursday they would leave Thursday they would say Thursday night Friday night and I believe they come back Saturday am I getting myus of the number Thursday Friday Saturday three nights any other questions or discussion how are they getting to Lancing uh last time with school bus so School Bus picks him up and drops him off Y and do we give him a credit card to pay for the food and stuff so we did not give him the credit card last year ahead of time we paid for on the purchasing card and then some of the food was was included he did provide receipts later um that would be something we have cover other C it would violate our PE card process if we gave him the card to take cuz he doesn't have one m not so he pays for all the upfronts and his receipts we would pay for the rooms and some of the things up front but if there's any other things that the board approved toiz yeah it looks like if there's dinners out in the registration so the registration is covered and the I'm just worried about that coming out of his own funds and that [Music] is I'm going to be the bad guy um can they fundraise this money we don't pay for the kids to go to DC we didn't pay the kids to go to France not I'm just wondering I would be happy to organize a fund bottle drive or whatever but I just it's a lot of money for it's they they look at this similar as going to ban competitions like this is the thespian competition like a band competition and that's the justification there aren't as many of these this is a pretty special piece and so many school districts take their kids to this and it is their chance to compete and receive Awards or band um festivals right that they go to as well that's it's the same concept just this is the big one for last year was our first year going yeah and then there was a grant that covered it or because it was isn't this the one that Mr out of school time grant for this no are you talking the leadership one from last summer we sent students oh maybe it was a different unfortunately able to earn a grant that cover half of the festival last year that on there yeah it's on the page of 82 B Source funding sources and yeah and they couldn't get the grant this year okay yeah app for students or our wrestling team made it to you know state level they cover them as well okay so is there a grant we can use to cover some of this not at this time we're always looking but not at this time okay any other questions or discussion roll call please portress yes rtin yes beon yes Hinton yes Le boys yes Maggie yes um next we have um the high school New York City trip can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education approve the trip to New York City for the High School drama Honor Society as presented support support so this one would be student fundra they would be paying their own way this is just approval from the board to allow to have the students to have the overnight experience Mr Fair brother and probably one other shf room would be needed at their own expense it's just as opportunity that we have to submit quickly in order for the students to be able to even be accepted sir un rais any other discussion or questions I don't have it in front of me but Debbie brought up about the bus yeah my question was so you kind of answer the only cost that the district is incurring is the bus taking them to the airport correct okay all the other costs would be individual students dis approval because it would be consider when it's all worked up I'm sorry even though it's student based and we even when it's all done when you get the hotel booked and you have everything in order can we just see the cost per student how much it is oh sure I'm sure give us that we get it for Washington and asking yeah yeah but it's still nice to have if we want to sponsor a student or whatever thank you any other questions or discussion Lo call please pess yes P yes beon yes Pon yes LeBron Bo yes naggie yes next we have the 1.0 FTE speech and language pathologist can I get a motion for the speech and language pathologist please I move the Board of Education approv the hiring of one FTE speech and language pathology ol ologist report good evening uh gu we are here today asking for approval for an additional on spe link pathologist for district um and this is just based on Need for the students that we currently have any discussion or questions roll call please foress yes R yes beon yes H yes Bo yes Maggie yes next next we have the Webster additional PA professionals can I get a motion for Webster additional prare professionals I move the Board of Education approve the hire of two one to one pair Professionals for Webster Early Educational centers braided preschool support support and just like the previous request this is I'm asking for approval for um needs for the students at have roll is there any discussion or questions roll call please I have a question it's two students and they're enrolled already okay any other questions or discussion roll call please pess yes R yes Eon yes P yes the FR Bo yes nny yes next we have addition part-time security guards can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education to approve the higher of two additional part-time security guards at Hazel Park High School and Hazel Park Junior High as presented support this is coming out of um recommendations for our safety protocols to um have additional Personnel on hand for events is there any other discussion or questions I do want to address a question that came to us regarding will they only be working High School events or any Community event that uses our facility so the purpose of this was more so that when we have practice and other things the doors would no longer be um unlocked that we would keep the doors locked so all athletes would come in through that ath athletic area uh we even talked today in the Safety Committee about perhaps having the metal detectors at the athletic door and all visitors come in that direction at night as well so that somebody was always doing that door and nothing would be unlocked there would be less time in the junior high there was a question about whether or not we would charge Community organizations to pay for the guards and we hadn't had a discussion I'm sure that's something that we could follow up it's not currently in the rental facility agreement but we could uh look at that make a recommendation and have further conversations at the community um Committee of the whole next week so it would be used for all of our practices yes and then also for outside events so it'd be used for everything well Our intention was for practices and and so that we no longer had doors unlocked at all um we hadn't considered the community situation of that and so I think that's something that you guys could give us further guidance on next week but for right now uh it would be for um practices um anytime it's in the building when the plays are there when so there would be no unlocked doors at all so what other outside organizations do we have a number of them that use it now that it's we do we have a junior Vikings that use it uh the cheerleading organization I don't think we have um we used to have a a flag group that used to utilize that uh sometimes we have some people that uh we had a couple people requesting to use the auditorium um I think that they have pulled out uh because they didn't want to pay like uh when we came up with the new costs um but we don't have I can't think of any other organizations right now web walkers but that's at web school and the custodian lets them in and then lets them out for those that use it right now we don't have any other ones so we certainly could have a conversation about what you guys would like to do with that cost yeah I'm thinking Athletics don't they have a budget that it could come out of Athletics oh it could it would come out of the G Athletics is general fund it's just we we never had anybody it just I know but it it doors have been left unlocked and when you talk about safety and some of the changes that's where it happens as people comeing through doors well I was driving into work and the drama door was wide open this afterno or at least the band you mean drama drama door mhm in the back for the auditorium yes um don't we have a security guard that works like a mid shift and is there supposed to be there till 7:00 at night they are there till 7:00 at night yes we finally have someone I believe I don't know if Miss McKenry is still here we do we a grandpar yes we do have one our couldn't we ask if they would work from like noon to 8 I think we could talk with Mrs McKenry about what worked for her during that time period but she set that time and so that's something we certainly can consider and some of them I think our current ones would probably just prefer to be able to work some overtime to cover those hours we just want to make sure we're keeping doors locked that's what I wanted to my question last time from Committee of the whole was how many do we have now so we have two at the junior high do we have five four at we had approved five at one point in time at the high school we only have four yeah we're lucky to have four right now me personally I'm interested in tabling this so the next board meeting when we can get talk about it at PNY of the whole and look at maybe changing what we charge outside groups coming in okay I will bring uh not only the outside charging agreement with you guys but we'll put this on the agenda for committee [Music] Theo any other questions or discussion so we're taing it I give to vote to table we're not going to vote on it we're going to table it we're tbling it I you got to pull your approval in second and then vote to table it I make we don't do this very often I make a motion to prove uh um to pull my motion to approve the two security guards and table it until the next meeting any other discussion roll call please foress yes reine yes Beaton yes p yes Le boys yes Maggie yes okay next we have the special education testing materials can I get a motion please I'm I move the Board of Education approve the purchase of materials and training to implement the Q interactive web-based evaluation tool at the cost not to exceed $114,000 support hi everyone hello so this proposal moves us eons closer to a digital um platform for our students that need evaluation um basically we're still using the the old paper pencil protocol and this moves us into a place where we're going to be able to have evaluations that are far more um detailed for our students and they're able to be done a bit quicker for our school psychologists which we are in a massive shortage of uh Nationwide so the overall cost is actually very close to the paper pencil version um and it will decrease as the years go on basically um the evaluator has an iPad the student has an iPad and they interact with one another and then the evaluator can actually uh set domains within the assessment so that if a student needs to Veer to a different direction or test something else as they're seeing those results come in live that they're able to do so so um this request looks at 14 iPads on nth generation which Brad assures me is plenty of room for today in the future and the the piercing products which gives us a total of about 10 assessments um for for a total cost of 13,261 um just for some background real quick we want to look at purchasing just one assessment um we typically are looking over a th000 sometimes close to 3,000 and it comes in luggage and currently our psychologists are traveling around the district in borrowing um and there is continuous cost with that because a response booklet uh 25 of them typically cost $150 so this is a a nice cost saving for the district and it's rign with our strategic po makes things quicker and more accurate so I'm excited to for this to you tonight thank you any questions or discussion yeah I have a a quick question because I just want to understand in this proposal it says 14 iPads at $199 $200 is 2800 but then over here the iPad cost is $6 , 286 and so I'm curious as to why it's different um I believe that's with the cases and the equipment that goes with it but I can certainly look at it um this also might be with the discount price that Mr Wilkins gave me so I can certainly take a look at it I believe the 6,000 is the accurate number at this time any other questions or discussion what is or is there um a backup plan or or something that's in place for students who either will struggle with or don't have accessibility to use the iPad or technology do we then have to keep purchasing paper and pencil or is there a a default that we can still use in order to not you can use paper and pencil with the evaluator side so a student could still use paper and pencil if they needed to okay um and we also do have updated kit so we will those available they usually um like the Whisk which is an intelligence test it's usually good for about four or 5 years and I just released one okay so we do have I believe two of those skits in our district at this time thank you any other questions or discussion roll call please wardress yes R yes Beaton yes Hinton yes ref boys yes Maggie yes next we have the transportation garage gate can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education approve the replacement of the existing gate not to exceed [Music] $752 we talked about this in the committee of the hall um about the importance of replacing this gate not only to stop the transportation from coming back there but just to make sure that we keep all of our items secure Mr Richardson is here tonight if you need additional information than what we spoke about before where is that at where is it bus garage behind Web behind web yep it's broken needs to be fixed okay there a question syncing fund can go in the sying fund yes any other questions or discussion roll call please Fortress yes Rich yes Beaton yes Pinon yes mpro yes ni yes next we have the Edison Compressor replacement can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education approve the compressor replacement for the freezer to ensure continue contined safe operation at the Edison at Edison at the cost not to exceed $9,000 support this would come from the Food Service dollars um and this is to replace the compressor that is continuing to have to be repaired um it would be better just to get a brand new one um that is set up the the way that'll be more appropriate and is not continuously broken down due to the excess of heat any other discussion or questions roll call please Gess yes Rich yes Beaton yes hon yes M voice yes NE yes um next we have the business manager salary can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education approve the increase of salary of Crystal I'm going to say your name wrong moar mub Mubarak sorry about that Crystal as presented uh so this is to um increase um crystas pay by 5% um to align with the um other increases that were given to the rest of the district and also to um you know as she's growing into the position she's become proficient in several of the off um standards and just as a reminder salary for this position is much much higher than what we are currently okay I also wanted to remind everyone that she is in her MBA program she also is in the ISD program for business officials and the msbo she was accepted to both of those programs that none of that is in the memo though I know I know I just wish it would have been in the memo any other questions or discussion two questions the um in our memo it does say the average salary for a director of business in the Metro Detroit area is um 1275 is [Music] that I lost my train of thought um is the comparison for school district business directors or yeah this came out of the M which the Miss um School business offal study so this is directly that and then second question um we did approve 5% wage increases for administrative staff um I think two months ago was crystal included in that increase she was not thanks Crystal has also been here less than a year okay so any other questions or discussion I'm just voting no and why I'm voting no um less than a year employee a new budget's coming forth in December we don't have an audit and um it's not money spent for kids we spent a lot of money that affects students tonight and um I'm going know until we get uh at least get a budget any other questions or discussion roll call please Gess I think Chrystal's doing a great job but unfortunately we don't have our audit done and I really need to see that audit I would happily give her the 5% after the audit is completed so I'm a no thank you R yes I know we're voting but can I ask a question do we given that we are I mean like hey mentioned we are about to receive an audit um we are I I'm just wondering if we have an interim option here if if we're working on an audit um a new assistant superintendent of business is about to be hired so job descriptions or roles or specific responsibilities May shift um I certainly don't want to push Crystal off and have her working in a pay that is far below her peers that are in the area um but we had in the past offered stiens or temporary increases um in order to kind of move that along until we have some additional information to increase it permanently I I don't know if that's something that's available to us or if I think it's a board kind of what thoughts are about that the board can do as it as it chooses uh Crystal does not have anything to do with the audit and I think we I want to make that clear to the community watching as well she doesn't perform it she doesn't do it she didn't have a part of that um that is Mr in Mr zones' hands and um though she is working to support with Mr Miller to make sure that that is completed at this time that is not part of her job okay um thank you for that yeah I think that's important to know just I I just didn't want it to leave any other ways but um I would think that uh it will be December perhaps before we have the audit and the adjusted budget so there's is there any way to table this one too until we get what they want to sure I I was also looking for an evaluation I know that she hasn't had one yet and I'm sure she's doing a fine job but if we're tabling it anyways I I would love for her to be evaluated in that [Music] time this is very hard to discuss a person in in public like this I have nothing against Crystal I don't know Crystal she comes highly recommended so what I have to say isn't personal at all against Crystal um people making more money in other districts could have years of experience and I'm glad and proud that she's working towards that but currently she doesn't have that degree and people making more money somewhere else might have 5 years or 10 years under their belt um right now the salary is $887,000 that I think that's a fair amount of money and I I I'm very sorry crysto to discuss this in public but um our finances the audit isn't connected she doesn't do the audit but we're unaware of our money what what finances we have there could be cuts down the road who knows who knows what where we stand financially and I hate to take it out on this one woman but there could be more coming down the road so I'm sorry Crystal it's just a no I can't do it I'll continue with the roll call would you want to table it instead um except it would probably be tabled till December would we have the if tabled would we have the option of approving her pay increase retroactively oh you could either way whether you vote it here or not it can be brought back again you can choose to do that and we can have further conversations and committee at the whole we could bring it up as a committee at the whole right is there an evaluation um I I can't answer if Jason did an evaluation or not at the end of the year I could look so do Sid he have to change your motion again like she did last time if you want to table it if not then you vote it yes or vote it no and then uh you can bring it back uh December January time frame if you so choose to do so um [Music] I think I would like to table it till December or after the audit comes in and so we can look at the audit see where we stand and and again it's nothing against Crystal at all and it's awful that we are just doing it for this one person but yeah I make a motion I'm I move to remove my motion to approve the pay increase for Crystal and move it to December After we receive the audit to review I'll support okay any other discussion roll call please foress yes rtin yes Eon yes Denton yes Le boys yes n [Music] yes okay next we go on to the mvca contract Amendment for adjustment of grade dcap can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education approve the contract Amendment for the Michigan virtual Cyber Charter Academy sorry good as presented support discussion so uh as you know we are the authorizers of Michigan virtual cyber Academy Charter Academy and that this is a cyber school and and as so um when they change their grade Bands then we have to approve that uh for their enrollment and they're not changing the total amount they're changing the the bands within themselves so they would not go higher than the original amount of 3460 but just moving it around a little bit they have more young ones coming into the Charter Academy than older ones at this point in time so we're requesting your approval so they can make that change and move forward I have a question and it's not related to the contract but they're not included in our account number they are not no cuz I saw that that's MV that's MCA MCA yes which is why I think we keep saying cyber is there Michigan cyber Academy they are a vendor School Michigan virtual Charter Academy is a charter school okay any other discussion or questions roll call please foress yes Richie yes beon yes henin yes MERS yes naggie yes next we have the conference request can I get a motion please I move the Board of Education approve the conference request for over $500 as presented so board discussion these are just uh the ones that are over 500 as you requested to have outside of consent agenda any other questions or discussion I do have a question the mid the Midwest Power School Conference that happened on October 7th through the 9th why wasn't this on September's meeting is there was um I can't answer why we didn't have it on September's meeting um don't recall that answer okay I will get it to you in my weekly upate it's just hard hard to approve a a conference that they've already attended yep agreed any other questions or discussion roll call please foress yes R yes beon yes Kon yeso yes naggie yes next we have the 2024 state aid Noe can I get a motion for the state aid note please I move the Board of Education to approve the 2024 state aid note resolution as presented support discussion y as discussed in the committee of the whole um we are requesting to do a state aid note in the past we have ever either taken a state aid note Andor we took a line of credit it's been a couple years since we've had to do that since the audit is not complete then we will have to we will not get our November state aid uh Mr Miller did reach out to the state and once the audit is complet and submitted they will release our state aid at that point in time we need to make sure that uh our payroll um is done in um and that we have the dollars to make sure we pay for the audience uh we do not get state aid in the months of July August September we get state aid in October and so then your audit is due and so the that will be frozen there will be um no that we will get it all nothing will be taken away uh so uh we need to make sure that we can make payroll uh it is not a bond this is not something that comes out to the taxpayers but there will be some interest depending on the time frame that we have to do this many school districts have to take a state aid note unfortun Ely and uh we were in a really good spot not have to do it until this year any discussion or questions I have a couple questions I'm sorry so where did the 12 million come from I was looking at our financial reports and it looks like we have about four a little over 4 million in expenses a month so this covers Us for 3 months Crystal and Matt uh there is I think six payrolls in that period of time uh so Crystal and Matt did a a uh financial analysis on what would be the most that we would need and the least that we would need and that's why it was recommended by Huntington Bank to do the 12 million based upon that Financial forecast okay um and just there's three different dates in here so I just wanted clarification the first paragraph it says at a regular board meeting the Board of Education the Board of Education of the school district of Fasa Park County Oakland state of Mich state of Michigan um should this be since this meeting is a special meeting should that be at a special meeting instead of a regular meeting no it doesn't matter special meeting is a meeting so um it is fine this was approved by our attorney firm they made the adjustments okay then um on page 108 after the signature line there is a regular meeting held on November 21st 2024 what is that are we approving something else on that date if this is the resolution what do you have on page 108 no that should be November 4th I don't have a 108 and it's on page three she was doing 108 I think of the board packet it's on page three of the motion B right here at the bottom under so that should be November November 4th also y so the other one should be November 4th as well correct the first one on page 106 or page one of the the um resolution is November 4th and it does not need to be a regular it can say regular meeting not special meeting yep is that the notice of intent of borrowing m i really because it references in here someplace I'm not quite sure this is the resolution that allows us to move forward uh then uh they they've already done some of the background work we are approved by the treasury at the state to do so and then they start working with the payments this also gives me the right to do the closing for the school district okay so we got two notices of ENT of intended borrowing so it's the November 4th one that's correct we had two okay the October 21st is out well the October 21st the meeting was cancelled and so there was first the notice on the October 21st and then the October 4th should have come out to you so the one on page four does that need to say instead of October 21st because there's three different dates on here there's November 4th there's November 21st and there's October 21st should they all say November 4th oh they should all say November 4th yes the notice of attent to borrowing that's in the packet says October 21st did you change it Jamie so I did yes she just didn't upload it to the pack okay CU I printed this out this morning yeah I say the 21st right here in my own packet here it shouldn't say the fourth and now it's everything's the fourth okay well then you got to change the time too because our meeting was at 5: yes and then I mean it talks about in here making sure that our minutes are correct our minutes are going to say this is a special meeting so I really think that this needs to say a special meeting instead of a regular meeting to coincide with our minutes we certainly can if if that's what you guys would choose to do it's fine it's not it's not one way or another if if you feel more comfortable we certainly I would I would feel more comfortable that it matches what our minutes say and this this is a special meeting um can we get the revised if you want us to vote on it tonight can we get the revised copy sent to us as soon as possible in the changes Y and my next question is Melissa Balwin is the secretary she's missed s tonight is the 17th meeting she's missed she's not here the board president can do it or he can he can have somebody choose to do the signature um I asked him about that he's been doing it so her name will just come off and it will say Rick naggie president okay then can we get a revised copy in the morning with all these changes any other discussion or questions I have a couple things page two yep just to understand under three terms and conditions the note shall not be outstanding for a period of 372 days that do we have to pay it back within that time in six months we do not have any concern over that yes uh yeah I just want to make sure that that meant that we need to pay it back and then number four the school district inoke I can't say that irrevocably pledges 2425 state aid equal to the outstanding balance of the note including accured interest there on Security payment the school district shall appropriate sufficient amount of the Pledge state aid to repay the principal and interest I guess I read all that to find out the interest what's the percent of the interest um I don't have that yet until we sign the closing document okay that's it is there a fee processing fee for this I think I don't know that yet until they give me the closing documents so now what okay we approve this tonight then you send it on to the then they finalize it through Huntington Bank hunting you know we met with the attorneys with uh Matt Miller with Crystal with Jason xernus and the attorneys and Huntington bank then the Huntington bank takes it from there and it's just like closing on a on a short-term loan and that and all that paragraph says BS that we will pay them back using the state aid no the state aid when we reive it's just helping you get through the state a process so we probably don't know oh sorry B so you probably don't know what my question says the note may or may not be subject to optional Redemption prior to maturity that mean we can't pay it off early no we can pay it off early do we have to pay the full fees if you pay it off early the full interest I will get that to you once they give us the the state aid I think we could put this topic on for committee of the whole which I'll have the update after we go through here about the timelines of the closing I think it's going to be closer to November 15th that they had said in an email that before they could close but I'll put this on the agenda for next week so we give you an update where it is okay the audit is currently in progress the audit is currently in progress however there's some outstanding items do they have an update U the aor or an anticipated timeline yet or still no no because they are um auditing in other places and they did not get some paperwork last week okay any other questions or discussion when is the replacement coming for Jason have we chosen no I have not chosen the the placement yet um I will talk with you guys in committee the whole next week regarding Personnel about uh some options of consideration thank you any other questions or discussion roll call please for yes rtin yes beaten yes yes H yes Le Bo yes naggie yes next we have student discipline can I get a motion for the state aid no please discipline student discipline I move the Board of Education approve the student discipline as presented support discussion so this is a recommendation for expulsion uh made through the discipline committee uh the parent was uh given the information that they could come to this meeting and speak to the board of educ ation and chose not to do so any other questions or discussion was this student offered to go to advantage or were they already at Advantage I didn't I they were already at Advantage okay any other discussion and questions roll call please foress yes yes Pon yes yes the boys yes nagie yes okay next move on to the superintendence report um so number one um enrollment our enrollment headcount for the month of um October is up um 2023 to 2024 was 3,23 the head count for 2425 is 3250 um we will not have the FTE until we submit uh which will be on Wednesday so I would I will hope I will have the head count for you in November next week and potential FTE portion as well that's also another important piece for completing uh the audit we have um uh as you can see in the spread sheet um Hoover is up United Oaks is up uh Webster is up um the high school is up 20 students Advantage is up 40 and then our vendor schools MCA invest are up 43 collectively together um Jordan is up and Edison is up so we will keep you updated on these numbers on a monthly basis the since it's coming out of my and it's coming then out of power school um I can't um run two reports together so I thought this was a better way to see it and the red obviously indicates down and the green indicates up we've had students enrolling the last two weeks um significantly as well that are our residents in Hazel Park um I want to celebrate our adk grant winners in August it was Erica brush gold from United Oaks and Jennifer suder at Hoover September was Susan Culver at Hoover and Katherine Fox at Webb and our October winners are Lauren cronic at Webb and Caitlyn bbac at Hazel Park Junior High so really excited the teachers get $50 towards their classrooms um to be able to uh put towards an activity that they've requested I'd like to acknowledge uh the witty Law Firm who did a paper donation to the school district as well as the class of 1984 that donated $500 toward Athletics Jimmy's not gotten back to me on what that uh donation would be um when he does I'll certainly let you know holiday basket applications are out um and they will be collected through Monday December 2nd at 3 p.m. if you're not aware of what holiday baskets are holiday baskets is a very long tradition here in Hazel Park of being able to uh privately get food as well as hats and gloves a gift and a book and so we encourage uh you to do a holiday basket each building will be donating uh certain items uh web jardon will be doing potatoes Hazel Park Junior High will be stuffing uh uo and Hazel Park High School will be vegetables hand fruit for Webster and Edison cereal at Hoover advantage and Ford we'll have mac and cheese and PB&J so we encourage you to come through for that um our OCB um our Oakland County School Board Association Next dinner is on November 20th it is collaboration with the superintendent so we're all signed up for that as we discussed before so I look forward to spending that even with you uh we do want to announce that our Viking football team uh won their game last week will be heading on to the district uh Championship uh for for districts uh they're in the sweet 16 Chuck told me to say for that they played a really great game on Friday night and I look forward to seeing them in armid uh as a matter of fact I was at a horse show this weekend and happened to be sitting next to a female from arm who said they were going to beat us and I said not so fast um and we had a great conversation about their team as as well as Kyle rally who is our former football coach that's coaching there so it should be a a great Sportsman like event um also uh volleyball is at Regina right now it gets Center Line playing so kudos to Our Ladies as well um I'm also requesting a close session uh at this point in time uh it is clear to do so that I can do so as my name was brought up in the public uh for the purpose of uh discipline uh or evaluation or the fact that my name was brought up in a public session we're doing it right now or we're doing it next week no now oh okay okay I U make a motion to go into close session for what section is it the exact words yes um dismissal suspension or disciplining or to hear complaints or charges brought against or to consider a periodic evaluation of a board member employee staff member or individual agent of the district if such person requests a close hearing I your request it um I am but what is it is there a section that's the section you read to consider the dismissal you read the whole thing suspension or discipline of or to hear complaints or charges brought against or to consider a periodic evaluation of a board member employee staff member or individual agent of the district you read the can she just put one a that's yes you can one a I make a motion to go into close session for Section 1 a that's what I was trying to say sorry support support roll call foress yes R yes beaten yes Hinton yes boys yes e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e [Music] they did awesome what was that the volleyball team won oh good yeah and they did not win against Center Line in the regular season and that is Jerry's daughter's team can I get a motion to reopen the meeting I make a motion to reopen the meeting you have a support support roll call portress yes rtin yes Eon yes hon yes boys yes NY yes okay you have anything else on your superintendent report I don't thanks okay request for future agenda items I have one um we have in the past couple of months at the committee of the whole and I I think it's been mentioned um at regular board meetings as well um that there were concerns about the district's fiscal sponsorship of the junior Vikings and I think especially today um this is hard because I have some personal involvement in this as well so I just want to make that clear um we've kind of had some indirect calls for actions today and as Board of Education I think that we are a bit confused about our role and the impact that we have and the decisions that we can make regarding the junior Vikings and I would like for us to if possible even as soon as um the next committee as a whole Committee of a whole um if it's inviting the junior Vikings board or inviting the city um it's been a partnership it's been a wellworking partnership um between the junior Vikings as a 501c3 the Board of Education through the district and then the city of Hazel Park um but I think I'm not necessarily speaking out of turn giv comments that were made in the public today that that that relationship is a bit devolving and we're stuck between a rock and a hard place as a board because we don't have um we don't have a clear policy we don't have a codified relationship uh we don't necessarily know the the hierarchy or who the decision-making body is um and it was we even had a parent that said you know SP I wrote it down and now I forgot what it was cuz I'm sad um maybe I didn't write it down they need support um just the the impact that Sports and Community involvement can have on children um I know she specifically said with an IEP I know that definitely impacts me personally as well and I definitely agree with her um I don't think that this relationship um I don't think that the junior Vikings as an organization nor its connection to the school district can fail um I think that would be an incredible disservice to the community I think it would be an incredible disservice to the children that are involved in the junior Vikings um incredible disservice to the people that have dedicated their time and their effort to um building the program and keeping it going um so I would like again I know it's been mentioned um but I would like for us to definitely have something on paper that we can speak about on an actual agenda not just as brainstorming um so that that can move forward and it can move forward in a positive manner um we are we heard emotional comments we're hearing emotional stuff we're speaking emotionally but there are hundreds of children that are impacted by this um including hundreds of children that are scheduled to start a new season of programming in like literal hours um and having that on the line for them um I I I don't think that it is beneficial to the community to sort of let this go or to let this fer I think that something needs to be codified and we need to make a decision about um not only the fiscal sponsorship but the programmatic sponsorship as well any anything else any other added agenda items okay and then we have our calendar dates here for the next future meetings November 11th for the Board of Education committee as a whole uh November 18th for Board of Education regular meeting and then the 19th uh special meeting um I think that's it there okay so now we're open for public comment uh we have a one minute time and the first one is Janice I just wanted to address that um I was Ser my husband was served this letter from um School Banning and from the junior high or the high school without prior permission of the superintendent um first like normal documentation that I've experienced through this District the date of the event that you stay on this letter is inaccurate but you could also get that date on Facebook from the event that the date actually happened you state continue harassment and I believe you mean that on your staff's part um I would like to ask the board to at least Vote for This ban of rainy Howard to be allowed on premises he poses no threat to anybody if anything it was your staff member that has posed multiple threats to multiple volunteers so in no way should a volunteer that has dedicated more than 40 hours of his time a week and 10 years of his life to the Youth of this city be banned from a property just because your friend group can't hold themselves to the Professional Standards that they should this Facebook post was not threatening you whatsoever but yet physical violence and physical threats from your staff is allowed and that's all I want to say all right thank you next we have Kim Ellen I would also like for that band to be removed like I said my grandson is a rer also Randy is his coach Randy is no threat to anybody nobody whatsoever the man has been with this community for 10 years getting these children in this community with everything he's put everything into it I don't understand I don't get it because of one person afraid of him this person is a marine Randy is having he has heart TR and can barely walk and he's afraid seriously I would ask to be removed too thank you thank you okay so now we're open for board member and administrative comments Monica you are first um I don't have much because we have tons of meetings coming up so I'm just going to say that um I'm looking forward to when Sports coming and okay April um I also I guess don't have much because I've I've said what I would have said in board member comments um congratulations to the football team it's a great achievement I hope that they continue on um I don't know anything about high school football so I'm cautiously optimistic our Madea sounds intimidating but maybe they're not um also ball just one we already said that uh and I am we're getting close to the end of the first marking period I think it's kind of a Monumental point in in the school um for both the children and the staff that are in the buildings and really proud of kind of the achievements that they've made just in the first part of this year all right Debbie um I can't believe it's end of the first parking period already that went by quick um just a couple questions the um when is the game against arm Raa the what Friday Saturday Friday Friday the 8th at what time I'm sorry I missed the question I could at what time is the football game on the eth in arid seven and that's about an hour drive right yes and I believe we're working on on a fan bus again there was a fan bus last week too where that where was that one at arm arm um my next question is the um the play he mentioned December 5th but it's not just one day right um I can't answer that I'll get back to you it's what mention and it's at the junior high yeah it's the Viking day but I just wondered what all the dates were it's at the junior high this play is just so we continue to kind of get that out there perfect I just want to make sure everybody um first I want to thank the student speakers and the audience speakers it's very hard to get up and talk in front of people um and the elections tomorrow so if you didn't vote which I read somewhere today that like 90% of the population already did vote but if you didn't go out and vote that's it Heidi um first and foremost last weekend we went to uh convention and Lancing I appreciate the school district allowing us to go it was very um educational and learning new stuff about the board is always good um I really enjoyed all my classes we had a couple presenters we had Sam Glenn and then we had um Doc Brown both fabulous presenters um Brown was awesome yeah he was really good did you have the chance to watch him I did yeah he was really good and um I was fortunate enough to buy a book and win a painting so um um I was very excited I barely fit in Debbie's car it was so big but um yeah it was fun he was a really good guy Heidi had to have it like on her feet in the back seat I couldn't cuz my trunk is very small I had to find a wall to put it out of my house but it was fun and it was very educational it long couple days but well worth it in glad I went I'm sure B got tons of notes CU she my um congratulations to the football team I wish you the best of luck unfortunately I cannot come on Friday um looking forward to reviewing the Long Fellow school I wish um you would have notified the board that it was on Thursday and gave us an option of different days of it is Friday and she's got something out he can't come on Thursday I yeah she can get the email he called us afternoon Friday at 3: Friday at 3: 3: at 3:30 if you guys can respond and thank you for that if you can respond to Jamie that's when John David will can be available if we need a different one we can come up with that too but he's just not available on Thursday so Friday at 3 at Longfellow we're going to meet there is there a way that he can push it to two or is it dead set on three we can ask about two I just have an obligation at 4 and it's about hour way it's hour way we'll ask him if he can do two and three we'll get back to you guys please watch your email but half and half okay I appreciate that um you know I just I knew this I just had a gut feeling the storm was coming with the junior Vikings and it makes me very sad that it's it's happening this way I am a firm believer and Volunteers in our district and I appreciate everything that the Howards have done in our district um I think we as a community and a school district need to come together and work away on how we can mend this and come together and keep the program strong and moving forward um there has to be a positive outcome to this and I believe that um if we work together it it will come to that I look forward to the opening or the revealing of the mural at the library it looks great B and I did the Trunk or Treat there was super fun and uh see you next week okay B you're up my turn um all psyched up from the conference right it's the most awesome experience there's so many people there so I said I I wrote something um once again at the confence conf I was reminded we are elected Board of seven and one employee creating a leadership team of eight doesn't matter how many times you hear it it's it's just good to hear it once again as reminded the board of seven is accountable for everything and then that's also in the executive board meeting how to run an effective board and the governance they repeat it the same thing that the board's accountable once again I was reminded of the importance of the vision and Mission and the goals set by the board and how we're supposed to use those uh goals and apply those to the Student Success the highlight of the weekend Sam Glenn speaking about kicking the attitude he was absolutely awesome that's where Heidi won the picture and he paints and the whole time he's talking and he he just had fabulous stories about um how to have a better attitude about things and quit holding people accountable for their opinions it's opinions you shouldn't be arguing uh it was just a reminder I mean you hear that now and then um and that's kind of how the world's evolving if you say something you're the bad guy and that was his message don't do that um Dr Brown I bought his shirt he was another keynote speaker absolutely fabulous he was about reflecting on yourself um he said to change the world around us we must first change the world within us and I just think that's a powerful ful thing reflect on yourself he had a backpack on his back and he talked about people having problems he talked about kids and relationship and taking that stuff out of your backpack take it out and get rid of some of that stuff we're all lugging something around that isn't positive sometimes or that's hurtful um the the um trying to put the image picture the backpack on your back and and relieving yourself of so many things reflect on your life life um I also want to thank the board for allowing me to attend and Debbie and Heidi Wentz um Monica did the the um virtual virtual and I I don't know if April's up yet for the the conference stuff but Monica did do some of the the conference through the virtual um you know it's 7 800 people there and you meet people you know as wiad and Escanaba and travor City Roseville and center line and it's like all these people there working for kids it it's just a good place to be so my workshops were um how to have an effective uh board meeting how to practice governance standards and controls for positive student outcomes board president and superintendent Synergy board member and school leader guide to Michigan school data site professional learning communities school school board role in financial fraud question and answer with parliamentarian and overseeing the superintendency uh they they were fabulous so I won't go into the I had bullet points on that but really Dr Brown was the he was the guy and um couple things then I'll be quiet um poverty is not disability it just needs support music and art are brain food don't let life steal your music I love that one cuz I love music uh rules do not govern behavior and it goes on he has a podcast Sunday nights 8:00 on Hulu that he's worth looking into um thank you to Mrs Gresley for the beautiful pumpkin and the great job of uh getting the farmers market together that was pretty cool um h activities all the pictures are fabulous uh thank you to Dr KY advertising the Grinch uh we'll be doing 100 families again 100 students uh and we're asking for donations can be dropped at the Webster Early Childhood Center coloring books crayons hot chocolate Etc um and then I mentioned the principles again you know they set the tone they keep things running from the cafeteria to the playground to the classroom and uh the principals just deserve an extra shout out I think that they're fabulous in leading our buildings and then the last thing I have is I bought Dr Brown's shirt and it was a dance out loud life may not be the party we hope for but while we are here we should dance dance through the storm life isn't about get isn't about getting through the storm it's about dancing in the rain it it's about staying positive even in the tough times and I I have the shirt I couldn't pass up the shirt it's like that's another great that's what you're we he wrote some he I was just going to say why didn't you wear the shirt WR in your book when he came out for his thing like he looked different right he looked like he was off the streets right and so like his whole message then he like a miror like you know starting with the man in the mirror that was his music at the end but then he took it all off and he was very well dressed and handsome you have to be the team he put his gown on from graduation he was great yeah it was great um yeah that was when you took everything up I was like wow he was a real businessman under and he stayed a long time and he was very personable with every person yes every person like he got to know you and then if you bought a book he signed the book and he wrote something really heartfelt him he wrote in my book yeah something about being an educator and doing great things for kids or something it was it was great he was fabulous yeah so anyways thank you letting us all right I think everybody's covered pretty much everything uh thank everybody for being here today um I did bring up about the two passings I forgot about the third one that was father Bob so and his funeral was final one was today so um another big loss because he did a lot of stuff in the city and besides being a father and auxiliary police officer and everything else he did everywhere with everybody so that was another big loss in Hazel Park um that's pretty much it good luck to all the candidates tomorrow for the election and uh hopefully it'll be a good one and just need a motion for an adjournment make motion I suck at that all those in favor is that
