uh and uh related to school achievement in general but especially in today's world and an extensive vocabulary and Ables our individual all individuals to say we're right precisely what it is that they want to say and a world and in a world where social media is everywhere and pack so much this is a very good thing we need to be able to say exactly what we needan uh we have been providing each month I've been reading a book to the students and presenting three tier 2 vocabulary words those are high utility words that can be used across different content areas we posted them in the throughout the school to reinforce those words and then each classroom teacher is presenting one tier two vocabulary work each week um and kids are practicing those words and really working with them and please speak into the mic um first I have Don mcginness please be respectful and refrain from um accusations to names dness 1337 East gr I'm here to uh talk about a lot actually uh I just feel like I've been a wring coach here for many years um almost decade now all the youth and all that growing up uh I'm at ha Parker I bleed Mar and Greg and I sad how bad we have fallen uh everything that I keep bringing up it keeps getting swept under the rug from the school um the clicks just keep going the harassment my family uh I am at the point where I'm about to leave the city myself I've been here my whole life um about to pull my kids um it's hard for me to even be up here to even say all this because I every time I brought it up and addressed it addressed it just keeps getting swept under the rug um I uh of course I didn't write nothing this is all from my heart and uh it it really makes me sick that me as a coach my father and all that and I come up here I have to come to this point to physically to get stuff done and it's said and uh you know I'm done with it so um I hope we can make changes for the better I hope we can build H Park back up we keep losing everything here everybody right I dedicated my time 10 years here I grew up here I graduated here and the fact that I'm up here to my concerns as a parent as a coach as a volunteer keeps getting swept under the rug is a problem I will fight it to the end no matter what but changes need to be happening and right now I it's tough um with everything going on through the wrestling program and all that down if you guys heard we won the league championship districts last year you know the Divide of people coming in and calling on us for mhsa and uh keep attacking us for everything that we do it's said and you know I just want everything to be fixed I want it to be done right I want people to be accounted for I want them to do their jobs I'm running out of time but thank you thank you uh kayln mcginness um I forgot to mention that you have three minutes but I'm glad you I'm glad you noticed it's like right there so thank you I'm ready good evening board my name is kayn mcginness also known as Mama mcginness to our wrestlers and I reside on Grant and Hughes as a certain map that was drawn would show I'm here today as a concerned parent and coach's wife we recently had a meeting with two of your higher up staff members this meeting came about due to a certain person that they're trying to hire for the junior high wrestling Coach position we expressed our concerns to which none of them were resolved we were promised that this certain someone would not be the junior high coach given the issues we had between our families we went around the room with the higher ups and all agreed upon it we understood that this person had a child and nephew coming up into the junior high wrestling care uh into their junior high wrestling careers and we offered a friendly solution for Coach Ry and Coach will to be able to coach giving my child an ample opportunity to be able to wrestle his junior high career as well but due to your quote unquote personal vendettas you took back your promise of not hiring that certain someone knowing all of the issues we've had with them and now my child and many other people's children will miss out on their junior high wrestling careers think about the future of Hazel Park and what it will do to wrestling hiring the wrong person into that position we need the youth wrestling to be successful in order to get wrestlers in the junior high then we need the junior high wrestlers to be able to come up to the high school confident and knowing these moves the feeder program is where it all begins and if you add the person you are wanting to add the feeder program will collapse and then eventually the number of wrestlers will dwindle we hope you take what we have to say into consideration I've sent quite the lengthy email to the board pertaining um certain issues we've encountered and we thank you for your time in reading that we hope to see some changed behaviors for the sake of Hazel Park schools and for the sake of our children thank you thank you Mrs mcginness I have CJ golf how you doing you don't know me I'm the varsity basketball coach and like behind I didn't write nothing down I'm just going to say up the top of my head um for you guys to know are having a really good year I want to appreciate the board and everybody that has put us in position to get that done with G time or whatever we needed you guys came through I appreciate that also BR my I'm I'm from Hal Park I graduated at 98 I came back last year took the job I love the city brought my son over here he's a freshman just finished his first semester for point0 plays on varsity team and was on across country I believe in the City the the issue that is starting to come up is well the good things is we have great facilities great administrations and people that that really care coaches that are in place that really care we got a lot of them here we got Hunter we got Garrett we got Greg we got D there's a bunch of us that care about the kids the problem is is the adults are starting to ruin it it's not about the kids anymore if you go we have really good kids at Hazel Park that want to get better want to stay in the gym we have coaches that are willing to put the extra time and to do that but now we're getting bickering back and forth between clicks like it's high school and kids are starting to see that online and kids are starting to see that and feel it in the schools and instead of everybody working together for the for the kids which is the most important has become adults fighting over a lot of unnecessary stuff and my concern is we're driving away good athletes good good students because they don't want to deal with the drama they don't want to go on the court boo they don't want to go anywhere and see people battling all the time from both sides if we could just get back to the kids and what's really important then it would benefit everybody but but the problem is is I'm telling you it's not the kids it's the adults but we are having a good season wrestling's having a great season all winter sports are having good Seasons we were put in place to do that but now it's just snowballing downhill we just lost a really good coach today who is also in alumni who won a district title last year in his first year came into the school turn like he's he's one of the top coaches in the state came in here turned around dedicated his time his kids go to a different school he came and dedicated his time here missing his kids games but he left today because of all the drama between adults and we're just going to keep losing good kids and good coaches if the adults in the room don't get it together thank you thank you Mr G I have uh Kim Alan and I'm new at this and I haven't had people giving their uh addresses name and addresses um I'm Kim Allen my address is 2337 Hughes um I'm standing in front of you today to speak on behalf of the head coach for the junior high we've come to find out that a certain employee will be taking over the junior high wrestling team I personally don't think he's the right person for the job seeing as he walked out on our Junior Viking Club midseason what makes you think he will stay with a junior high coach if he didn't just dedicate his time to the city before he didn't give back to our City's children what makes you think he'll coach them now um there are many parents who do not want him coaching the wrestling team we as parents already telling your children to miss out of Junior High wrestling career do the the oh I'm sorry school's choice of head coach for the Junior High coach Ray has been coaching these children so far they don't want this other person coaching their children they have seen him matside before they have heard him matside before they do not like the way he's talking to these children they appreciate the way Ray treats their children they the children respond to the way Ray talks to their children my grandson has Asbergers he has actually had success with my grandson my grandson's first match this year he went out there and pinic it his first match that he got one last year one win last year Ray got him to do that this year that is the type of Coach I want from my grandson that is the kind of Coach other parents want for their kids not the coach that they're trying to get for all these other kids and last meeting I was at the board voted on a coach since when does the board not vote on coaches I thought that's what the school board did I thought you guys voted on who was put in position cuz the last time I was here you guys voted on the basketball coach for the junior high I know I had a lot going on then but I do remember that meeting CU I remember everything that happened to that meeting so I personally think that coach will and coach Ray deserve that job they have been put out their time in they put their effort in and they are the right men for those jobs thank you thank you Miss alen I have Ryan Bishoff hello 139 East mil uh on January 13th 2025 the superintendent said we are putting locks and they're all the same so no matter what if you in the hall so if you are caught in the Hall you can get in anyone's room so everyone will have the same key I can talk about how that protocol would give an unstable staff member access to the entire building or how the only people that should have a master key is law enforcement however the biggest issue is that I was told to the city and the internet however the biggest issue is that the superintendent told the city and the internet about crucial security issues any locksmith will tell you a lock is useless if you know the key because she said in an open session everyone now knows there are 40 plus master keys in the high school that can easily Grant access to the entire building through theft or violence tonight when this board goes into Clos session you need to resolve the security breach and discuss how the superintendent should be reprimanded I heard arguments about transparency and fiscal responsibility over $2,500 directly after $700,000 was wasted and the school district was put in District was put in danger along with every student and staff member just because she had the Glo and not one board member said a word the community elected you to keep our children safe and no one should minimize the danger this has on our district that is all thank you Mr Bishoff I have Rebecca Ali Ellice Ellis Ellis yes sorry Ellis I'm sorry about your name only got 2 minutes and 58 seconds up here thank you for letting me talk tonight my name is Rebecca I live on Milton but due to a couple of little things I probably don't want to give you my house number um I have had some issues here um so I'd like to address a few things we do have um we we seem to be attacking a certain coach that is coming in and no offense to coach Ray I don't really know him he might be a great coach too but I would just ask that you guys do your due diligence on putting you know like uh resume to resume doing the best thing for the kids P that not just because we had like the Hatfields and the McCoy going at each other and they don't feel like they can work together because this is supposed to be for the kids the other thing I would urge you to do is maybe add something in for the coaches where they have to sign a non-disclosure or something so their wives can't put so many things and negative comments on social media and attack other people in those things because of um that's been what's going on a lot lately a lot of negativity about our inner school things when certain people shouldn't even know the things that are going on if they didn't have a certain coach that was their husband spewing the stuff into them also this coach does not want the other coach coming on but I've heard out of his own mouth that he's not even going to be here next year he doesn't want to be at this effing place next year next year um we did have a runin and I don't want to sound like a beg gruntled ex-employee like some of the people in the audience today but we did run into a situation Don and I at the beginning of the year where he spewed some inappropriate comments about my daughter to other parents that go to the school and my daughter is new here and came over for a very specific uh reason from another school um this comment when I addressed him in the meeting that he was having with other parents about a rumor that he heard about my daughter um he told me that I don't understand the power that he has here and he would ruin me and he said that in front of other parents okay the the the unappropriate things that he was talking about my daughter involved a sexual nature um being in a pool with a boy until 3:00 a.m. and we know what was going on he then high-fived the boy during that conversation um the when I brought this to his attention he kind of gave me some extra you know like push back on this so when we're talking you know like what should and shouldn't be happening what shouldn't be happening is during his wrestling um practices it's a dark room with some LED lights he's kind of got some music on set in the mood for his co-ed team to kind of do whatever they want to in there this has been made aware and so some things do need to change there are some things that need to be changed but not because because we got two different people that hate each other going at it but because we're doing what's right for the children okay and uh furthermore um I have my daughter has been protected by Dr Kirby um so I just want to make sure that we know that there are certain instances where things have to happen I ran out of time I did have a few more things but go by things thank Miss Alis I have Kathy Ryan name is Kathy Ryan 2744 in park viiew um my I have a couple of concerns as an employee I've been an employee of the district for over 35 years I want to welcome the new board members first off um and this doesn't affect the new board memb is what I'm talking about um as an employee I have no never seen our board act the way that you have on YouTube on um social media sites the bickering back and forth It's like daggers are throwing at each other from superintendent to board members it is humiliating in this District humiliating and it bothers me a lot because I dedicate my soul and I believe in the education of our children and some of the things that I'm hearing and when people ask well what's going on with your board why are they bickering so much how do I respond to that and then we worry about our budgets and yet here talk about new attorneys okay I see that you're looking into it that's great that's wonderful whatever but I do us as employees or residents have the right to look at those policies that you have talked about Miss hon the policies are posted yes okay I'm just asking I'm just asking um it is all this negativeness back the bickering back and forth is affecting our school district Community the employees yes we can agree to disagree that's a fact of life okay all I ask is this is per if this is personal with anyone on this board keep it out of the YouTube keep it out of the uh social media sites deal with it outside of the district's daily operation because it is affecting students as well this could hurt us and decrease our enrollment the behavior of this the board that has continued back and forth um this is a new year new board members let let more friendship come instead of all of us being confused why this why was the secretary secretary not here in the closed meeting January 22nd when she was elected to be a secretary on this board it's attorney client priv and Mr Fox is the secretary she's our transcriber gotcha okay thank you for answering that I appreciate that um all board members need to be heard we all have a voice and we all deserve answers no matter if it's a teacher an employee a student um a community someone out in the community um I'm just asking as an employee please stop the bickering I'm tired of the humiliation looking on YouTube it is very hurtful and it breaks my heart yes I have tears coming up because it is hurtful I've been in this District a long time a lot of you know me we go way back we've been on boards together but this is unacceptable and you don't see it from other districts so I'm asking please thank you for your time and I appreciate each gener uh doing everything that you're doing for our board thank you thank you Mrs Ryan is there anybody else with with wishing to speak that didn't have a chance to fill out a paper Okay pleas please state your name and address I'm Jackson uh my address is 19134 St Louis Street um I'm speaking because I'm actually a new coach I was a coach for flag football and it just seems to me that we talk all about how social media is ruined the lot lot of schooling and kids and we're going on YouTube and everything to talk talk and everything and it's just inappropriate it's childish by the adults I when I coached the flag football team they didn't win a game last year and basically I came and coached them showed them how to have fun strict with them and everything and show them how to win a game have fun while doing it whether we lose or win and it's really just about the kids like the talking over social media has to stop like we're adults this is a supposed to be schooling and everything we can't do that that's setting a bad example for the kids and that's that's really all I have to say Hi Ian ly 99 e is a Park Michigan um the thing I I just wanted to talk about is institutional memory um you know when you have too much turnover things kind of slip through the cracks but when you have continuity um you know you guys can kind of have a historical timeline that we all agree on some things with related to our our finances and certain leadership I think can get confused amongst each other um I know as an employee um you know I was part of the solution I helped with the deficit reduction that James misinger signed into effect um and so when I got laid off that was part of my contribution I was a wrestling coach at the time it was 202010 I went up and I ended up uh working for Mount Pleasant but what heavy is the head that wears the crown I um I truly sympathize for each of you and I pray for each of you whether you know it or not um these are complex decisions but I am confident in this board because they have the institutional memory we have uh several members up here that were former employees and they've kept track of the timeline on who got us out of deficit and who did not get us in out of deficit so we truly know finally I think the softening up of the relations between the the board and the community we're at the Historical low and it's under one person's leadership and management and you and I really hope that you're not pointing the finger somewhere else CU you got three to four pointing back at yourself every time you possibly say the person that's not here it's all their fault and you know who is me you know I didn't know it was my job to manage the budget um you know in Hazel Park we pay hundreds of thousands of dollars whether whether you know it or not it's your job and you did know it and you you I hope no one scapegoats another professional individual or former superintendent because that's not accurate I worked with that gentleman he's a fine gentleman and he did Fabulous things at Fitzgerald when I knew him and we all knew him to be very precise with in meticulous on time with his routines and performances for his day events so I just I wish you guys well and I I thank you thank you thank you okay now we need a motion for closed session I'm of the Board of Education re reset Clos session for 818 to consider matters exempt from discussion or Disclosure by state of federal law which is attorney client privilege second can we have discussion please Madam president pardon can we have discussion please yes go ahead I just want to say I did email our board president um later in the week last week and asked for the information that was handed to Nate for the attorney and I got a reply saying that the attorney will be there Monday I sent another reply asking for the information and I never got an email back so to be prepared again today I was not any other discussion I sort of echo my same concerns regarding Community transparency and the reason that we're going into Clos session um I just wish that it was a little bit more transparent um that we were able to have that open communication prior to going into closed session um I will also say that I am a bit concerned that we have um just heard public comment that directly mentioned um some specific conversation that was had in the last time this board went into Clos session uh which again would just caus me to Echo my concerns regarding Community transparency and conversations that are being had not in this room but rather outside of this room so I have a response to this is the same stuff coming up again about me and I contacted the attorney firm and this is their answer my question I said hi Alex I spoke to you on January 6th inquiring what the retainer fee was you gave me wrong information and you said you needed to take my contact to info to Lewis to Lucas the information was sent to my superintendent on January 9th because I didn't see the email asking for my address I was only asking for information include it was a retainer invoice dated January 2nd and a W9 my question is why was the retainer dated January 2nd when I hadn't spoke to you until January 6th I only inquired about the cost of the ret retainer I didn't ask for a retainer invoice the real problem is why is it dated January 2nd I look forward to hearing from you good morning Bev hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out I'd be happy to clarify I was notified by one of our attorneys on January 7th that Hazel Park would be joining truan as a retainer client given the proximity to the beginning of the new year this invoice was made to be consistent with a batch of new retainer client invoices that we sent out to all of our retainer clients on January 2nd rest assured after receiving the superintendent's reply on January 9th that there had been a miscommunication and further discussion was needed within the district we immediately unposted the incorrectly dated invoice and waited for further confirmation then on January 14th upon receiving notification the district officially made the formal decision to to join as a retainer client we then generated the correctly dated invoice which is attached my sincere apologies for any confusion this may have caused and we appreciate your patience and understanding as this was corrected and I have the corrected invoice I did not hire true and law on January 2nd I didn't have the right to hire true in law and I didn't have Miss RTI talk to the attorney because the bylaws give permission to the president every board member cannot call the attorneys they would it would run up a terrible Bill there would be things said behind people's back you go through the president if you don't know how this works you ask me what you want I I communicate with the attorney each board member does not have the right to communicate with the attorney that isn't how it works my question there though then is why did Nate get that and then not me I met with Nate we went up to Java Hut and I met 10 minutes before the meeting that that was about our our time to reassure him that it was only going to be a conversation a communication nothing more we have a right to talk to an attorney and get an opinion on not having a budget on not having an audit on borrowing $12 million we have a right to do that and so I gave Nate 10 minutes I probably could have called you and met with you also um let me speak to that also what she's talking about the stuff that came up in that meeting that didn't come up in that meeting I specifically stated I don't want to talk about specifics I want to know what allow us to go into close session that was it I cuz I had confusions and you know misunderstandings on whether we were even in a place where we were eligible to go into close session so I just asked the attorney that was my my question I wanted to know that and what he gave me you know the uh the 818 consider a material exempt from discussion or Disclosure by state or federal statute attorney client privileg is very vague in my opinion uh so and this is again where I spoke about the other day I'm torn in the sense that the Optics of this look bad we're up here bickering back and forth right public sees that the students see that it's unfortunate um it's hard coming on as a new member and learning a lot of the stuff that I'm learning through the M Michigan Association of school boards kind of the way this is going goes against all of that but at the same time this board I'm a part of this board this board did vote to approve paying the retainer for this attorney so they are our attorney so is it is I have to look at it is is it in good faith for me as a board member for the community to not get the information that the attorney is being paid for that they're presenting them that's where I'm at I it's a I don't think it looks good right now uh as a board I don't disagree with what some people said uh I hope that all of us can take any personal differences aside and focus based on the right decisions on what's right and wrong for the students for the community for the staff and that's how I'm going to go forward and it's it's concerning how this came about but it's they are our legal representation we voted on as a board so can we do a roll call vote to go in the close session miss buo foress yes the boys yes yes Beaton yes Becker yes Fox Yes rtin Yes hint yes okay so um we're going to meet in here so the audience do so now I'm going to take e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e cookies froed they were like sticks and get in the frosting forgot call the meeting back to order at 8:10 motion yeah Mo oh go ahead go ahead motion to resume the regular meeting support uh roll call yes yes Becker yes Fortress yes Fox yes R yes P yes the next order of business is the consent agenda a motion to accept the consent agenda I'm move the Board of Education accept the consent agenda as presented support um rad call you I wanted to um discuss the um a couple things that I found sorry I'm kind of still in CL session um can we pull the minutes from the 6th 13th and 22nd to discuss and at um Committee of the whole next month this is where um we started to get a little bit more detailed in our um minutes and I just some of the stuff was a lot some of it was a little and I just want to make sure that the whole board is comfortable what's happening and how maybe we can we get a little bit to get exactly what we want since this is the first month we're doing it you said which states um the the January meetings Okay December meeting was was the old board so I'm okay with that but if we can move January 6 13th and 22nd to Committee of the whole to um discuss how they're set up and if that's the way this board wants to proceed doing it cuz some of them had a lot of details some had a little and I'm kind of a happy medium person in between all of that myself but just so we can discuss it a little a little further as what we all would like and then um I just had also a question [Music] um where is [Music] my the personel recommendations it looked like we hired quite a bit of custodian staff and I think there was like five of them and two of them did not have resumés attached and I was just kind of curious on what the procedure was if we hire an individual do we I would assume that we always get their resum and their contract and I didn't see two of theirs in there so if we could just get those maybe at our committee of the whole meeting that would be great yeah uh B can I talk um I will have uh Nancy and Christy look at that but yes uh we do ask for rumes some of them are these are substitute positions unless some of them are hired as full but um we'll look and see which ones are not in there and and get those to the board uh next week or two weeks from now so we have a motion to accept the agenda with excluding she would I think there has been amendment I will amend mine too move the um January meeting minutes to Comm the whole and to you um request those resumes please thank you I would keep support okay so roll call RTI yes Eden yes Becker yes foress yes Fox yes the FR boys yes yes so I made an error coming out of Clos session we should be giving a report isn't that correct you come out a close session and you give the results do I make a motion yes or is it okay you might you might look at your shaking his head no to oh okay then we'll just continue uh next order of business is unfinished business it's our calendar for 2025 I'm Mo Board of Education approved that 2025 calendar dates as presented support any any discussion can we have them on one sheet of paper with all of them the special meetings and it threw me off because it was just the special meetings and the regular meetings and then I when I printed them I did double-sided and I'm like oh I'm not I'm missing Committees of the hole just so I can tack it on the refrigerator so my family know going to be gone so all in favor forever all in favor of accepting the calendar as presented say I I I any opposed no motion carries thank you Freedom of Information it's informational item and we got that back in November you the board asked for updated completion of the entire fore request and so this is brought brought back at the request of the board okay we didn't get the reply so now we have thank you I appreciate that all right great thank you do we have new business Sumer help I'm move the Board of Education approve the use of student help for the technology building grounds athletic communication and drama departments as listed support discussion good evening um I updated the memo as you guys asked with all the any comments no questions all right now roll call Miss buo I'm a no on this one and so we get our um audit reports back yes yes voice yes fo no no Beer's didate oh I'm sorry be yes to what is three to four yes carries carried um student discipline action item I move the Board of Education approved the student discipline as presented support discussion motion and second at discussion would you like to have a discussion with go ahead um so I did because you've been asking some questions about what the expulsions were for and so we have two on here that are for fighting continuous fighting one uh was a threat and one was a THC vape obviously more than once any any anything further um uh roll call Miss buo foress yes R yes beon yes Becker yes yes yes yes uh motion carries 70 uh promise Navigator you want to speak to that n Cy I'm I'm I'm going to let christe or motion first yes I the Board of Education approved the addition of three positions of Promise navigator for Hazel Park schools second anybody support sorry I was no you're fine discussion uh yes good evening so uh these are three grant funding positions that we'd like to add as Pro Navigators um the job description is connected there and these would be at Uber web and Tel par Junior High School all right just remind you this is all part of the $545,000 that we've already received from Balmer um it is part of the obligation of the grant that we've received it's 1.7 million over three years which also includes the director of Community Schools position 1.7 million over3 million so so we've already received 545,000 okay my next question is um why is the junior high position $5,000 more than the elementary and Elementary positions when we only have one job description uh because they'll also uh we certainly can correct that because the junior high has more than the elementaries with doing sports as well so they'll be taking on the sports in the evenings anybody else um what happens when the the grant is done can we reapply for this grant uh we are two the only two districts that have received this from Balmer um I can't answer if they'll continue on but those are the things that you'll have to watch every year when the administration brings a like new Staffing request they should show you the grun grant funded position such as this and so right now it's a three-year pilot so then at the end of three years I'm assuming the administration comes back to us and say can we continue these positions well every year we we do that with you when we talk about Staffing and so it should be yes so the grant started in November they gave us the money but we really started uh like Carla salary January 1st due to the out of school time Grant stuff and then so we'll have dollars and so we'll have to have ongoing conversation about after 3 years what left and what time of the year and all those kind of things as well so other than employees which looks like it's going to take up at least half of the $545,000 that we've already received what is the plan for the other amount of that money well we did give that to you in uh in our committee of the whole the grants from Balmer but part of that funding is just like we're doing at United adults parent participation after school activities that we can do as well some tutoring as well not as much money as we received when we received um larger dollars for just United Oaks but it allows us to have those Navigators then there's other community organizations that we're working at putting together to support and we'll write we'll continue to write some more grants okay roll call yes Rich yes beon yes beer yes Fox yes L Bo yes yes 70 motion passes uh Oakland Livingston um Service Agency lease I move the Board of Education approve the contract to generate $25,000 plus custodial fees in the General front's Revenue account as presented second support um I don't believe that's what the contract is the contract is for $25,000 that includes uh those fees there's one error in the contract as well that says oh yeah I'm sorry you're right there's 9,000 for custodial fees um there is one correction in here as well and that is the number of rooms is five not three and they sent me the original one this evening it also includes if um they have continuing issues in the building or with the rooms or damag in the building that that can be built back to OA as well MH so since this contract started in um last year have we received September and December's payment we received them monthly according to Crystal so I I apologize for not putting that in the in the notes to you um yes they are really good at receiving those unfortunately this was not something that was shared with anyone it was found in the email and she assigned it she signed it already um way back in August so it was found in in an addition someone else's email okay but they have been paying they have been paying yes so they don't pay quarterly they pay monthly they pay monthly Crystal can you confirm that correct and also I said in the community as poll we um this is for last year's lease and then we're going to soon get one for next year this is for this year's lease 2425 and then in the spring we would look at negotiating for 2526 okay thank you August 1st 2024 through July 30th 25 so we still have like six months left on it yeah thank you okay anybody else no roll call yes yes beon yes Becker yes Fox yeso yes yes uh next item of businesses board training action I item and a motion to approve board training I move the Board of Education approve the board member training request as presented support discussion uh only that there is a new uh document on your table here that you're voting on um that will be uploaded into the pap anybody else roll call yes yesen yes Becker yes Fox yes yes yes uh conference request over $500 it doesn't say anything about action item is that we don't have any informational there's no there's okay there wasn't okay school choice resolution um motion I move the Board of Education approve the 2025 26 School of Choice as presented support any discussion anybody have questions about the no just that um this is uh what we have to approve every year then it's sent to the state um it is brought to the board every single year and um and and needs to be done in order for us to accept students within the county and outside the county as well with the um School of Choice just so everybody's clear when you when you do school of choice you have to do it for every city you or County you border correct um no um that is what we approve um we approved to do this you could choose to just do Oakland County you could just approve not to go outside of Oakland County you don't have to do the other ones outside of Oakland County I thought when we were in the um Oakland schools meeting that they said that you have to do anything you order you can only do what you've order you can only so like we couldn't vote to accept kids from lenaway that would cross over and come in so the the counties that you choose to accept School of Choice from have to physically touch the borders of your county okay but I I do think I do remember reading something that if you we can't say we only want Moman that way and if we're going to accept outof County students we have to do all the ones we touch okay but you do not have to accept out of County corre that is the choice of the board right right okay anything else roll call or yes yes Pon yes Becker yes yes yes yes 70o motion carries we have overnight trip varsity girls wrestling I move the Board of Education approve overnight trip to the Midland girls wrestling tournament as presented support so I apologize for not having this uh to you um before the committee of the whole but we just received it and the wrestling trip is coming up and so this is for a coach a female chaperon one of our either athletic director or our activities director to attend as well um we were looking for a female obviously and Chris I believe is the one going but it doesn't so we'll have eight rooms four rooms for the kids I'm just kind of curious um is it normal I've just being a dance mom for years and years and years we never had a chaperon of our um athletic directors or Community rep person um so is this something new that we're doing having our athletic director attend out of town what it is our recommendation that we have one of them attend this event it's not new it's just the recommendation that we have on the table is there a particular reason um yeah I believe that we need more oversight with uh the trip that we're taking are the parents not attending I our parents don't always attend but I can't answer if our parents are attending if the girls parents are attending they don't usually attend I can't Jimmy are the parents attending I'm sorry are the parents attending the trip I would assume so but I don't know they're going to be in attendance I can't assume that one way or I just thought it was ad I've never seen the athletic director attent not that I'm opposed I just it just struck me as ad and wondering if it's something they were doing any other discussion it's for how many kids 16 okay we're pretty excited to have our girls be able to go on a trip and and wrestle that's they've done a great job uh roll call R yes e yes Becker yes foress yes Fox yes Le boys yes yes um idea funding resolution I move the Board of Education to approve the idea permanent funding resolution as presented support uh Mr Fox would you read it I don't have it I can do it it's in front of me if you don't I have a printed copy if you'd like me to do it okay um I know last time you got stuck with like three pages over and over um so a resolution calling for full permanent funding of idea uh whereas public education is the Cornerstone of our democracy providing fundamental skills and opportunity to Children across the United States and whereas in the decade following the Great Recession students across the United States lost nearly 600 billion from the state's disinvestment in their public schools and whereas prior to the covid-19 pandemic both state and federal funding for public schools was already failing to meet the critical needs of students across the country and whereas since the covid-19 pandemic students have needed additional academic social emotional and mental health needs being met through targeted programming and additional Personnel enhanced professional development opportunities new technology as well as critical updates to schools and facilities and whereas research has consistently shown that incre inreased education funding positively affects academic performance increases graduation rates and impacts future earnings and whereas when individuals with disabilities Education Act idea was funded in was passed in 1975 the federal government committed to pay 40% of the average per pupil expenditure for special education to ensure that every child with a disability has access to a highquality education and whereas the financial pledge for idea has never been met and is currently funded at approximately 10.7% leaving a gap of billions of dollars needed for students and whereas Hazel Park School District is proud to serve a student population that includes 20% students with disabilities and whereas when Hazel Park School Districts cost to deliver the important Services required under idea are not properly funded by the federal government it requires us to reallocate money from other programs to make up for it and whereas the federal underfunding of idea has negatively impacted the academ opportunities of all students for Generations not just those with disabilities now therefore it be resolved by the Hazel Park School District as followed the Hazel Park School Board calls on Congress to immediately pass the idea full funding act Senate res Senate resolution 2217 house resolution 40 4519 which would create a 10-year mandatory path to fully fund idea and the Hazel Park School Board calls on the state legislature to provide adequate Equitable and sustainable funding increase to districts to mitigate the harm caused by Decades of underfunded schools the resolution would be declared adopted on January 27th 2025 at a regular meeting of the Board of Education of the school district of the city of Hazel Park here at 1620 East elza Avenue Hazel Park Michigan 48030 all right thank you that's a very important funding that that you know one of those things they threaten to Cuts quite often so um all the schools are passing this resolution so thank you uh we have to vote Mrs S may make a comment sure uh this resolution will be taken by Oakland schools and our lobbyists and superintendents and board members that are going to Washington DC and that's why the it is important because every year we Lobby for this to happen and every year it doesn't get passed but every year we keep hoping that they will increase the funding and not cut it to our schools uh through the idea grants 20% also is not remember we run to Center programs and so we need to remember that when you think about the percentage benefits us greatly yep does so roll call oress yes R yes Pon yes Becker yes Fox yeso yes yes uh enrollment report superintendent report enrollment I apologize it doesn't look like it is up there but I have the enrollment report and I will share it with you um it really has a change from last month the month of February is count today and so um that's important for us to get 10% of our state um funding when we think about next year state aid funding that number will be 10% of that number that comes out we currently are being audited it was supposed to happen on our ice days um and so I believe that's rechanged for next week for the audit of our our account numbers and we'll see how that comes out for us and then they'll make some adjustments in in where we're going um additionally uh holiday baskets pretty fantastic that um we were able to service and support 272 kids in Hazel Park through the holiday basket program so that's pretty fantastic as well um then I would encourage everybody to think about uh the fact that we have a resource Fair that's coming up in February I believe that it is February 8 thank you from 11: till 2 we have a lot of Wonderful um organizations coming with support resources if you're out there and you're listening and you'd like to come to that as well please contact Mrs gley our director of Community Schools I know I was contacted by Mr McFall who wants to set up a table and is super excited he will be coming to that as well um I don't think I uh the adk grant winners I think we pronounced we did those before they they gave those to us so I don't have anything else for that tonight okay and I will I do want to mention that LE next month we will bring our teachers of the Year to you three of them have been announced one is still waiting to be announced and that will be sometime next week um and then we will bring them here so that we can celebrate them all together next month right great thank you um request for future agenda items any future items um I had some I don't know what I did with them okay an update on the gym floor oh the dance you talking about the dance and I believe that I did that already you said that you did but we didn't get it was partially done and wasn't completed no I believe the there's some things that have to be done to the floor yet but we don't have the bill yet when the bill comes in they'll give it to me and I will call the dance team okay so that's um I don't have that bill yet and Greg is here if you have any more questions about that floor okay is there anything else Greg than what we said no on the invoice they going finish rest of so what did they do right now Greg will you come to the microphone I know you don't like to but we can't hear you and the community needs to hear you put wood fer in there so this this summer they're going to STP it down and redo the whole and they're going to fix the B we're the end point should be here he said he sent it so I'll look into that yeah I uh am opening every piece of mail and have not seen it yet so if the invoice is for the the repair for the wood filler will that carry forward to they being financially responsible for a portion of the refinishing and repainting as well I can't answer I haven't seen the bill yet okay we will I will put that on my conversation with the board president as well as okay um yeah it just would be nice if the their responsibility sort of carried on okay nothing else we have public comments I have one here from Randy Howard I have a motion pardon do I do this do I read this now the resolution okay three minutes it's not up there it's 1 minute it's minutes still oh it's 1 minute till next month we have to vote on it next month it's more all right hi everyone I'm Randy hard uh 31205 Mulan Avenue Michigan 4888 I'd like to first uh apologize for my part in uh the the social media you know bashing um I'm in a better mindset now than I was then and you know I do apologize for any any conflict that I started with that um real quick I know my opinion isn't really all that much anymore because I'm not a resident here anymore but I truly want you guys to to think about uh the choices of your coaches um I was sitting in the back and I I wasn't going to say anything but there's so much bearing on such a simple decision and it could cause this humongous Rift and we don't want that we don't want to step backwards we want to move forward in positive way and that's what we're trying to do today is move forward in a positive way so thank you for letting me go yeah thank [Applause] you uh don mcginness Don mcginness 1337 East Granite uh I am the high school wrestling coach uh and I do want to state that uh you know the Ripple will happen uh with that happened I I have stated that I would walk uh and leave Hazel Park where I don't want to because I bleed uh maroon and gray um and uh you know now here in other people's statements as well uh just let you guys know the lights and the the music is the kids ideal if you guys ever watch glow wrestling um there's a lot you have to make it fun for the kids to be in the room you have to change it up no one wants to go and roll around with swey people and call that fun uh so but I do believe the coaches and the the head coach his program of going down the the chain of command and trying to build a program and having conflict between will cause a lot of more damage than it a lot more bad than good it should happen so thank you thank you Carla Grassley Miss Gresley nobody even saw me bring that up I know Carla Grassley I live in at Salan so you don't want my address I am the director of Community Schools uh here at Hazel Park proudly I have been a Hazel Paran for this is my eth year here woohoo um I am up here to talk about resource feere even though it's already been mentioned we have H chili cooking that's going to heavy night you know a lot of hard decisions being made well I'm new and I usually call each person I just say any comments I actually liked it this way it was like if you wanted to make a comment you could so I have a couple comments too um they mentioned the Lifeguard class this is more of a question this part does that mean we're teaching lifeguarding to our high school students as like the pool
