item um can I read into that you may have public comments that are not related to agenda items thank you for the clarification yes okay um if there's no disagreement from the rest of the board seeing that we have at most three public attendees I would uh be willing to wave and allow those public comments in our first section of the evening that's fine okay so if you'd like to make your public comments feel free from here yes yes okay great um if you give us your name and address be good evening my name is John hartage I live in Lake Nea uh 69 sub dra uh I come to you uh as a taxpayer since 2004 I join the community met my beautiful wife a professional musician of 30 years a music educator of 20 plus years and a parent of a new freshman student The Bullying situation was pretty rough right after as you know after covid and we had to move my son from the Sussex wage Regional uh Middle School in sixth grade over to the Char school had a great experience but there was no music so we paid for private lessons during that time so he could still uh have some musical involvement he was in the local Orchestra of the Su County Youth Orchestra so he kept some music going we're really looking forward to getting to High Point high school because of the particular director and that's also his his passion as as reads my son is a sax player so we were excited to come to High Point Regional uh with James alaney their current director um today there was an announcement by an admin personel some admin Personnel in person at the start of concert band class and they came into concert band class and informed not only the students not only the director but the students in uh in present in front of them that they would not be uh filling the the assistant band director position was a teacher but was a part-time position that was I think Casey Carol I think he got a uh a position in August that was a full-time position um so right now I think the supervisor had said if you were maybe more than 60 students we might be able to you know have some bargaining bar bargaining room and I understand that so they're about 55 in the program but I will tell you that in the Sussex Regional School already there's about a 100 kids in music now that's Sixth sth and eighth grade but there are other feeder schools so this program here at High Point could easily double in a year we're still recovering from Co because during Co you could do virtual classes but you could not do virtual music the the tech had not caught up now the tech has caught up you can but we couldn't do it during Co so we lost a lot of students and some of those students were behind but I will will mention that the director that you have here has under his Tage has sent amazing musicians to my summer theater uh orchestra that I've operated for 25 years Highland State and I've had a few of them even professionally work worked for me at West Milford High School I've been directing there for 14 years in the spring at the high school he produces amazing musicians but amazing individuals academically uh I think you're losing an opportunity because if this because currently and I'll tell you what the challenge that I know Mr Asen is having right now is there in education I've been in education for while I teach in ore Public Schools differentiation is everything if you can offer yourent students that challenge especially the students who are excelling and right now there's concert band and Wind Ensemble and Wind Ensemble provides a little extra of Applied challenge harder pieces he and mran I know can't be in two place the same time and the other is private instruction private instruction they had even up to last year with a part-time position assisting Mr as um four or five kids in a session really great individual opportun with that teacher now those grow those classes are going to grow to 8 to 12 so it's going to provide a little less contact and less challenge for some of those students who are excelling and just setting up that that that program uh that program uh continuation that you need the challenge that you need from from an experienced teacher I can tell you as a professional musician he is something else but he's the the relationship he gets with these kids is unbelievable there's another parent and one of his P members here too I didn't know they were coming but I uh I just feel that we're missing an opportunity um that if there's a way to to PO post that position or at least consider bringing on another with maybe there's a certain level that you might need to see of of student involvement but the challenge with something like this as you know is you start to get attrition if you can't keep devoting the resources but what happened today it's a little bit like and look the team's doing great I I love the spirit that this football team has this year and some of the other uh athletic uh organizations in the school are we came to the parents night we were so impressed um and I'm jumping around here so I'm trying to be quick uh we came to parents I'm so impressed by the the feeling I'm getting from all of the teachers my son the the crop of teachers that he drew this year I cannot believe how good what I'm hearing teacher so positive so caring um and what I was saying about the the the other teams that would be like uh going into the practice room right two days before a big football game and saying you know coach we uh we got to we can't really you know you know justify you having that assistant coach or that conditioning coach we're going to have to you know call it and I understand you know resources are tight everywhere but something about music it's not just just it's not just what you know what you may you know think on the outside the program of music is so key and it affects so many other areas of cognition it's so so amazing for the development of these kids and it provides a team experience for kids that normally wouldn't Place Sports so it's a uh it's invaluable of course I mean I'm preaching to my own choir I'm an educator for a long time but I do see the effects that the Arts have your uh visual the visual arts here oh my goodness those teachers I I'm so impressed now that goes right along with your with your Tech and your design area fabulous but I really think the Performing Arts is so very important doctors lawyers any professionals sales they have to be able to have confidence and know how to prepare for presentations how to hold themselves and no better traing um I'll close with um uh I'll close with again the need for that differentiation and I just hope that we don't miss the opportunity to have available for these students that are coming up from the feeder schools because it's it's coming back like it or not music's on fire right now in the middle schools where we just couldn't do it during Co and it's exciting but I just hope we don't miss an opportunity not be ready for it thank you for your time I appreciate you let me go over time sir can I ask you a qualifying question AB typically never can speak and so I appreciate you hearing like um you had mentioned the the number of students who were in the private SE sessions you had said was five or six and that would increase to a certain number I yeah with the assistant he could keep that more like four to six maybe seven depending on which instrument my only question would be is um to what extent where from where did you get those numbers oh from the band record okay that is now priate sessions will increase in some cases thank you so much I appreciate it sir thank you for your time thank you any other public comments I good evening my name is Gary Mar I live at Le Bantry terce here in wage I'm speaking to you tonight both as a concerned parent I both as the president of the HB band parent Association a booster club whose sole purpose is to exist to support all the students in the band programs at High Point Regional High School I am here in front of you tonight to bring to the Forefront issues and concerns that have Arisen in the aftermath of the resignation of the assistant director position previously by Mr Casey Carol my child honors Mar junor a third year in the Band program here they have found a passion for music founded in no small part by the wonderful directors and staff here at High Point they are planning to follow this path through college and Beyond seeking a career as a professional musician and also pursuing a degree in music education paying it back to those that have inspired them and to give rise to the next generation of hopeful musics however their ability to follow this path along with many others in the program has suffered a critical setback with the recent departure of Mr Carol from the music department as amazing as Casey was as an educator a mentor a confidant it is not Mr Carol's departure specifically that has delivered such a V at the program it's the decision of the administration to issue rehiring for the position which as I understand is still part of the budget for 2424 2425 fiscal year school music programs L have attain the unfair stereotype of being seen as extracurricular Hobbies instead of serious Pursuits for example the marching band is a halftime show to boost the morale of the players and The Spectators Rah raah rally the team for victory sadly this couldn't be farther from the truth music programs are an academic discipline on par with any other students in this vertical take their education seriously as they are looking to turn this into their lifelong Pursuits to dimin their and their passion is an insult as members Collective the Board of Education are stewards of the institution both in a fiscal sense but more importantly as exerted from your own mission statement dedicated to the Quest for individual Excellence by fostering high standards of achievement we prepare students to be become responsible and productive members of a diverse Society I realize the board's guidance is predicated on the information you presented with from the administration I call attention to the gap between the black and white of a spreadsheet or a report and the resultant range of gray that is the actual outcome of these these decisions that are made my apologies a spreadsheet can show the elimination of a position as not a remarkable event it can show a popular class being covered by a theater Department member in the interim it can cover one instructor teaching both concert band and Jazz Band classes and it can cover one instructor teaching all the different types of instruments the reality however is that losing a core instructor creates a huge void to the department popular classes such as guitar are popular because it's a filler class it's checking a requirement box for graduation the overwhelming majority of the par participants in that class do not pursue a single music class beyond that classes simultaneous on the schedule due to the departure of Mr Carol right before the school year the classes were already set in stone and they cannot be moved and you know you cannot split the current music director in half to teach them both at the same time so the students lose out one or the other and finally a different expertise is needed for different instruments can your mechanics instructor teach even though they're both considered trades eliminating the position of severely limited class offerings cup programs threaten the cut programs and reduce the competitiveness of our students applying to college without these programs our students are severely hamstrung in their Scholastic opportunities which will have a devastating ripple effect on their ability to attend college and Beyond in closing I would like to ask the board to dive into the details to examine the Fallout of the decision to not refill this position I would ask the board to take into consideration the long-term har to the and provide the students with the proper tools to be able to fulfill your mission statement thank you for your time thank you you any further comments from the public is this um my name is mar I also live on B ter and as my father stated I'm a junior in high point and I'm a very active member of the band recently the assistant B was like has resigned as a student I gathered some testimonies that two students at High Point have given me addressing their opinions on the resignation of the former assistant B director the first testimony is from a senior professional the loss of the and she says the loss of the former assistant fan director isn't just about losing as a teacher personally but rather as his position hasn't been filt it is a detrimental hit to the music department our program was just starting to pick up the pace again and now it feel stunted as a percussionist I was always done teaching myself but now instead of two amazing sources of knowledge I'm trying to get information out of one teacher who has a workload of two now re hiring somebody in the position of an assistant band director puts the band in such a difficult situation and my next testimony is from a senior brass member our director she says our director now has to now do double the work because of this we have to drop things within the band now that the person in the assistant band director position is gone his specialty is now gone too there are members of in the brass section of the band that are brand new to their instruments that I've been able to help teach yes Mr slaming would be able to teach them on his own that he simply does not have enough time along with time he is not specialist in the brass area like Mr Carol was it will be very difficult in the future for us to not have a specialist in the brass area whether whether the work was a part of his job or he volunteered himself doesn't matter what matters is that we had something important to the department and now you don't now the point is the point of this is not about Mr Carol but realizing the true importance of his position and putting someone new in in place with him it is in the best interest the survival to rehire the position of the assistant B director as soon as possible thank you for hearing me thank you thank you you get any comments come through virtual in the any other public comments yeah so we do have a second section public comment section at the end of the evening if anyone listening virtually would like to submit comments uh we will read them um during that section so with that I have a motion to close public comments and the second all in favor any opposed okay turning to our agenda presentations first up is our HPA representative president car good evening everybody I would like to welcome the new board members that are here um I was doing a cross country flagging today it's very interesting anyway that's why I'm dress C out um I want to thank the administration Mr tal Mr Campbell and Mr for it was a it was a 100% better opening this year we felt safe and secure things were in place I know they must have had uh many meetings over the summer to make sure to ensure our safety um it's interesting how when you put rules in place and you you adhere by them and how the students will fall in line and we're on the same page I'm not saying that we don't have things to work on but we do um help as far as the media center is no longer you know a place where you can go eat lunch so during lunch they not need lunch in there so it's academically um restricted which is nice and um the smart pass where teachers are getting used to it the students are getting used to it and we have rors now that are holding iPads and roaming through the hallway so if a student is out they ask them you have a smart pass who are you and they look and make sure that they're in the proper place that they they're passed out to uh we still have to work on the cell phones they shouldn't be in the hallways with their cell phones but you know they hide them everywhere so you know you got to judge what do I do teach teach what I'm teaching make sure you do your smart pass you know so it's it's juggling um it's my 25th year here so I'm still learning but anyway um the staff seems to be comfortable and uh we're assured and supported by our Administration and I look forward to going further as far as what next has to be in place because we're still juggling with the outside influences of you know what and it's scary it is scary a teacher Andor student today because you know you're getting the school threats and but we have to deal day by day um otherwise we're doing good as far as I wear many hats and as an nja executive we're working towards closing the gap of the pension inequities because I'm tier one 25 years and we have people coming in at tier five which isn't fair so at least I'm proud of nja is working on that because you know a situation and it's just the inequities that's involved not your fault it's U gold past things another thing that njaa was very capable of doing is getting rid of sgos for 10e teachers so just non 10e teachers have to do sgos at this point in time which takes a lot of Burden off of the rest of us and that's all I have welcome back thank you next report is our principal report Mr John welcome to uh kyley our student representative Kyle just literally came off the cross country trail with some of that I saw out there as well so it's a long night walk help um as Mr said we had a great opening to our our school year I want to thank all those that are behind the scenes to make that happen we talk about that a little bit in August when we were in the board office but secretari of Staff Transportation staff um the support staff Our IT department Mr Mr toer our security staff most importantly our custodians and maintenance who work around all the obstacles um in terms of making sure that our school is ready to go so um we're very thankful for them what they do every single day and I'm sure without them we wouldn't be the doors open so I want to make sure that we um continue to thank them for all that they do for us on an everyday basis as Mr said too we start strong and we able to end strong that's our goal every single year um people outside of Education ask about what it's like in a school building right and it comes life and usually August we start get students around it becomes more of a school and less of a building I talked about that a little bit in August um the other important part of it is the bookends right September and October and May and June are so important um school and the functioning of the school and getting those book ends set the rest of the chapters and books um so it can flow pretty nicely so it takes a team effort as Mr set our administrative staff and also of course our um teaching staff in the cloud effort to make sure that we get a strong opening we always want to monitor our areas um because we all have areas of growth and we continue to make tweaks along the way um and work with our student leaders Kyle's part of many needs already with the student leaders continue to get that feedback of areas that we can continue to grow on as we continue to to work together our nth grade parent night which was two weeks ago that went very well so some our nth grade parents there um I want to make sure that I thank everybody I want to miss anybody thank you to Chris Jacky Jess Cardinal Becky Sno Chris Dexter Jack McCarthy Brian Dr and Brian Emma for their awesome presentations that they gave to our students we do a those that don't know we do like a three session um informational session for our parents um and they able to Bas the group and they get a welcome and student panel um It's really informative and they ask questions student panel which is always awesome that's different grade levels and then we also have um informational sessions for our parents different than our back to school um so we had about 80 ands that evening um Contin do that which is unique not a lot of schools do a nth grade parent at night we think it's very beneficial to our nth graders many of the parents that were here um that night were first time night grade parents sometimes you go through right at a couple times say okay I kind of got it down but there were many first time their parents there so thank you to all our team for their assistance most importantly we it before Kevin Perry who's not here but hopefully he's listening somewhere um Dan knows this but knows but he is essential about essential workers during the co came up he's essential to our school building every single day I say this to him I say it out loud I say to public um he is doing everything all the time and you don't have to ask what's going on so for he had things set up smoothly running from the volleball game we had that evening to get things set up and then back to the volleball game so he making that up running so I want to give a huge shout out to to Kevin Perry for all that he does um to make sure that when the computers actually push turn on they come on everything works back to school night was last week um as you have seen really postco there's a lower attendance um for those those events people are busy we get that we know that but the the parents that were there are heavily engaged um I had a chance to as my um middle daughter of a sophomore high point I had the chance to follow along the schedule as much as I could in the classes and I just want to say say before um kudos to our teachers um you know what that looks like right as a principal and you appreciate that um when you get to sit in in the seats right as as a classroom um student um see that first thing um we really are blessed every single day and really proud of them and I told them all that um individually as well so that was a great night this week is a big week for us it's Spirit Week our first spirit week of the year homecoming uh game uh um Friday against St and our homecoming dance on Saturday uh in between we have all kinds of fun activities for spirit week uh today was 20 day um in terms of that aspect of it yesterday we [Music] had it's all to me um tomorrow go to backpack day one of the most uh anticipated end days of the year all kinds of requests that come in for that um so we looking forward to that and we have decades day and school col day on um on Friday Monday was Jersey versus Jersey short to get little cative and then we have the Fall Pepper alley first kickoff led by our student council and also our um sports teams our captains are recognized March B is out there playing we're excited about that looks like it's going to be good weather so it'll be out in the football field instead of being inside so that's always a nice thing we also have our first extracurricular a lot of stuff happened in September I'm sorry U our first extracurricular activity Fair um which is going to be on Thursday that's a question I came a lot with gr parents that's the Chang for stud not just nth graders um to go into each gym and see all the clubs that we have to offer um and that's really a great experience because I believe that there's a club and activity for everybody in their building if you want it right it has to be a two-way street um in terms aspect of it that will happen during the lunch we have our first parent University again an evening event for our parents we did that last year our intent was to do three we have a great attendance on the first night but we did do one we had a really good feedback from the parents that were there and our focus on October 10th um at 6 is going to be um you might have heard of this before vaping and substance awareness what that means from a parent perspective um which as uh you know you Google anything right it's it's one of the probably the biggest issue facing um our youth today um and that's a sad situation but we have to be on top of that and the board supported many layers of preventive methods for that and we're also going to be focusing on cell phones and social media um as well as have a portion for ESL students make sure that they have a chance to be part of that as well so that's going to be on intent um College Fair coming up October 2nd that's our first college fa thank you to M Magie Meer coordinates that and our guidance Department um if we get anywhere it depends on the night in terms of where the colleges are in their rotation in the country anywhere from 15 to 75 colleges there two-year colleges and fouryear colleges as as well as um Career technical schools and then in the spring we do our our career it's also run by our guidance department so looking forward to that it's been very successful over the course of the last um couple years on the 23rd of October we're doing a mental fitness program a new program that we're trying here um it's a speaker uh a presentation to our students and also a staff Workshop um and the focus really to to break it down and summarize it right is that we can spend just much time taking care of our our mental challenges that we focus on and breaking those barriers that are there um some of those those roadblocks there for that you spend our physical um Fitness as well so we're looking forward to that and that will be extended day event with our staff and our students the last thing before I transfer over to Athletics is our school food pantry I know many of our board members ask about that on a regular basis we have our food pantry again this year um thankful Mr gley is one of the ones that coordinates that as well as Mr Percy um and also Mrs bang Mrs batt had done that for close to a decade um food pantry was a huge loss so we have a lot of work to do in terms of that we had a first drive already um because as you know in our school communities the need is um extensively high and it continues to be High um so we continue to do those drives we have many families in need immediately in the first couple weeks of school and we we uh jumped into staff je day and the food just pours in um so I'm thankful to our staff for what they do for the outside Community because many people from the outside Community donate on a regular basis as well so we're happy pleas to have that that support Mr D okay Athletics okay uh we have some play P events coming up to mark your calendars for uh field hockey on October 15th um and girl soccer on October 17th and again so those are play pain and KCK The Cure follow those two events there's going to be more as well but those are the two that are set right now our students continue to organize and drive um local charities and they'll they'll raise whether it's $2 or $5,000 doesn't it's coming together as a school Community um for a mission for a goal um and the kids I mean I know I've had kids on a team they go out and get Don they get the sponsors um and they do the work on the ground to make sure that that is is taken care of so those are the two nights that we have set up um our fall Sports is full in action as we said we had cross country today with Ki KI and also L um running into the wi hours of the night I think they may five sit when they finish up pretty close um night so Kyle was one of our seniors that was there in honor as well as Tom Marcel and EV dong so we're excited about that aspect of it um The Fall season is up and running um football has another game come this week girls tennis you saw our coach walk L late game um girl soccer they have games all up field hockey won today I was 21 against Walk Hill um volleyball if you haven't got a chance to watch a vol ball game it is absolutely the most exciting um probably 45 minutes that you can pack gym the last two games pack jym um it was almost like it felt like a wrestling match feel there you know what wrestling matches feel like um it was a rocker crowd and the girls have won three games in a row not teams that they were not expected to beat so pretty fun to watch that growth um and excitedly watch that as well like I said cross country had their seas day today um first week of athletes of the week Maria kazlowski tennis jar marus for football Dylan M for football football and Le Morell for soccer and then last but not least I want to publicly thank um Mr Patrick um and Miss Heather Freeland for Their donation of our flag um and the football field so that is newly installed thank you to Jeff um and Mr McGrath for installing that we saw that pictures actually day today it's beautiful they donated um all of that labor as well as the materials so we're very very excited for that and if you have not to close heard about our Friday Night Lights competition look on the signs out front and trying to uh compete with the local Regional Schools um we're doing a pretty good job with that thank you to Mr Chris detic director who has been organizing that basically what ises that it means that U T-Mobile has devides a really brilliant marketing um experience and they're getting a lot of schools involved with that so the goal is is push it back it's supposed to be this weekend and push it back to October 10th um the more views likes um and posts that you have out there on social media particularly with with their hashtags that they have to be part of um the better it is for them because it generates their increased Reven it's very good marketing and then in turn the school that wins is eligible for a football um Stadium makeover um which is you know upwards of a million dollars plus so right now we've been a to basically reach benchmarks again with Mr dex's leadership of $1,000 and $5,000 um and that's something that we see the bo would also see later on this week with the presentation next year is $25,000 and then I the rep the other day when we had a little student um shout out with him and we had all our father so show me money let's keep it going um so it was excited to be part of that and again it's just a good Community thing to see um our youth lead and our participating something that's good for the overall community and as a busy September that's all we got any questions on any of those than you commission just add thank you certainly um I'd like to thank Mr Jim Rice for his cooperation also to keep us safe and secure thank you Mr Sheamus Campbell with our 2024 njsla results discussion I'd also like to say a great start to the school year 65 de temperatures tail and cheese and some nice music and uh we really got off to a warm our first two days were great lot of collaboration close relationship it's a special day to welcome everyone back Comm to the year I think we did that effec so a really nice our next in service is October 14th and I just want doing many things that day but I want to thanky and Dr Stacey who together put together a workshop for AP teachers distributed everybody sign proud to be able to host a regional event bring in 80 teachers um we have breakfast have coffee and we're going to build relationships teachers teaching the same event so thank you to them for organizing that great event last month I touched on the njsa results because they were relevant to results they've since been publicly released and I will give you a very brief overview of those results here reminder of who takes this assessment freshman and juniors English Math and Science the letter went home last week the letter guided parents on how to access student results and also provided an assessment calendar of all assessments they'll see this year at High Point very important um this is a BRI presentation I'm presenting tonight is on our website right now so anyone in the audience public watch home you go to our website on the right hand side shortcuts 224j results it's actually been updated I apologize under shortcuts it just says assessment results so you just look for assessment results in that location this presentation um Can first important we improve on all three assessments sizable increase in English a nice increase in math and very modest increase in sence we are pleased with this progress but we're far from satisfying if you look at a threee snapshot you'll notice how significant last year's Road was yes there was generally an uptick from 22 to 23 but it was mod where it existed um this year I went back today and I looked at the state results and how much did the state increase and I was very pleased to find that the state results did also increase but our increase far outpaced the state incase so our Improvement is not simply because the state average or the assessments got easier Etc we're outpacing that growth and we are um close to uh in all um the state mean which is by no means our goal as Dr stated last month we're not satisfied with these results we do not strive to the average we want sustained growth and I believe we successfully draft this chart here shows you for each of the tests taken what percentage of students scored at what level so members of the community that U more expensively furb for privacy matters requires that any data point that is U reflects less than 10 students must be blacked out must bepress uh the idea there is if you have three students that are in certain category that the scores are too reflective of those specific students and it could infer uh individual student results so as we see here is less than 10 many of the subgroup categories in our results are locked down nonetheless they're available here for public review um nothing dramatic that I thought warranted conversation evening Algebra 2 we did not have any categories where there were 10 or more so the entire results are um locked down what we typically see in sub groups and I presented this we typically see female students out ping male students in ela something we're working on and we also see um students that are U economically disadvantaged performing less than their peers Le up and we're targeting that as well so we know where the subgroup stres exist and we're focused on trying to see improv uh gradea um science important to note that students with significant disabilities do not take the regular um assessment they have the dynamic learning maps of the DM I think last year we had three students take this assessment so there are no results we can share from again uh I just want to say to anybody watching this evening or anyone down the road who wants any information contact me and all of those um results are listed there when our academic performance report gets released I'll also present to show that not only can you see our results you can see our results going back for 15 years and you can see every district and every school building in the state for 15 years how they did on every single assessment it's pretty easy to navigate um so there's transparency there on the state level and on the local level that's easily accessible again so um please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about those assments questions great one other very quick thing um really happy with our media specialist um this is Michelle aludo she is a magnet for wonderful people and she has a group of students that are just drawn to the media center it's a very warm and liing place for academic study and for um feeling comfortable and and social and so a group of students proach said can we start a new club on the agenda this evening for your consideration is the library Outreach Society um I thought it was clearly written by the students but very authentic and sincere The Proposal basically we want a place where we can hang out in the library decorated have special events um no strict rules about attendance just something to gather around and do positive fun things in the media center about ly so thank you to to these great students organizing okay that wraps up our presentations uh we have two items under other business first one noting addressed to uh Gonzalez who is our um uh one of our Tech education wood chop um teachers so just want to acknowledge that thank you Mr Gonzalez under miscellaneous I think we already heard about the two games the pink games and the k for cure the girls wrestling tournament that's a little bit out there so uh in January but we will be hosting the hws girls wrestling tournament on January 5th uh hws comprises 19 schools including High our standing item about school board mandated training is there uh so that brings us to our second public comment section of the evening St roues apply as the first section um don't know that we have we have any additional comments from anybody in the room we did receive two comments less than add one it's about the band yeah so there was a um a comment made or submitted virtually that looks like it may be related to you possibly U again John har parent ban parent and also uh volunteer for the uh the field crew and also helping a little bit of the tech with the percussion um the uh the band went to a competition uh at Sparta the first competition of the year and they had one other uh band in their class they do it by a size of band but they did uh have the top score out of the two and their score best at um a couple of schools that have much bigger bands and uh for the first time I think right for giant Stadium uh October 12th they'll be representing High Point High School at uh giant stadium for um one of the most uh visible uh competitions and we do we are actually preparing for that if you came in and you heard them practicing they practice Tuesdays and Thursdays so that's a real like like I was saying before there's a there's a lot of uh Community uh awareness that happens because of your band and if you can project that quality just like the quality of the of the uh the sports teams and their and their production uh it it really does add a lot to the local community thank you so we had two uh comments submitted to our uh email that were forwarded to me um I was going to offer you Mr har the opportunity you got your your is it your daughter or your wife uh uh faith is my wife okay um I I'll read them I'll read them if you wouldn't mind oh that's great I didn't know she from Faith partage 69 Summit Drive Sussex I am commenting on a band position recently decided to not hire one it was announced playing band class in front of the students which was highly upsetting for my freshman son to hear it was the first thing he told me when he came off the bus this band at one point was full and com competitive in the latter tenure of Harold Wood's Direction it was not required nor inspired toward toward marching band participation you now have a teacher in James aslanian who has the talent and energy to reinvigorate this one's once vibrant program why would you want to stop that having a program and a band show representing your school is good for everyone especially the students who have been working hard to achieve the skills of the individual instruments that they play music is a type of math that has to be learned in and practiced encouraged and inspired it is your job to make sure these kids have the same opportunities that other schools have band kids generally go on to be lawyers and doctors hold White Collar jobs inspiring humans to change the world type of kids if you did the research there is much you will find in Stanford studies Harvard studies that link between science and math encouraged by music studies please consider investing in your music program and give Mr aslanian the teacher uh the kiss he deserves I think thank you uh our second public comment from um hello this is Megan horac uh president of the high point football club I am a Lafayette resident 91 Meadows Road we are very excited for our school Community to have been awarded $6,000 from the first round of the T-Mobile 5K Friday nights uh sweep Stakes as the presence of this competition is to support the football field and all of our Sports and activities that may use the space we are hoping the board and administration will use those funds towards the football field our scoreboard is missing light bulbs and other upgrades could be made the football club is actively supporting the 5G Friday night light social media campaign and have encouraged our feeder program to do so as well which they have been we hope to have public input as to how these winnings will be used to help support the field as a whole for the whole school Community thank you Megan unless we had other ones come in that's all okay uh that was the public comments that we know of so may have a motion to CL public comments motion a second all in favor I any oos okay uh non-committee board member reports or comments if I may I'm just going to start make a plug for the uh sus County School boards Association um meeting on next Tuesday October 1st it is a uh hybrid so uh there's an inperson session in Virtual held at the same time uh if you are interested in attending you can register through your uh New Jersey School Board Association for that event and uh I'll be there as I'll be uh sharing the meeting you SE um that's that's all my comments anybody else okay so under other business just uh well we have nothing under other business that's just the placeholder so with that I'll entertain a motion to uh adjourn motion second all in favor oppos okay we are
