##VIDEO ID:dCcDxeZWpJI## [Music] I hereby call to order the regular meeting of the keensburg Board of Education to be held in the buer Middle School auditorium adequate notice for this meeting has been mailed to the Asbury Park Press f with the municipal clerk of keensburg posted on the district website and posted inside the office of the kingburg Board of Education 100 Palmer Poli Kingsburg New Jersey on January 4th 2023 PA Mrs Clayton Mrs frelle here M Mar here Mr mancy here Mr kitchen Mr cook here Mr cisano here Mr Hof Miss Ferraro please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge alleg to flag of the United States of America and to the for stands na indivisible with liberty and justice for all please take note of the emergency exits behind you to the side all right and for presentations uh Miss Christine F hi how how's everyone doing good how you doing hello all right so I'm going over the access for L results from our spring um so if you don't know what access for Al given to all English uh language Learners during the annual testing window which is typically February through April um it offers an extensive view of language development so it allows us to track uh progress over time for these students and that information will allow our um ell teachers to provide targeted um interventions to support them so basically there are four domains that we look at or that they tested on so it's listening speaking reading and writing um and then within these four domains uh they get either an entering um which is our lowest stor and then the highest being a reaching so there's from one to six six um each doain is scored on and then they get an overall score um in order order to be tested out of the program um a child needs to receive a 4.5 and then there's like a committee that comes together and then we discuss whether the child will be exited out in agreement with the parent and the teachers um so just a little information when we look at our scores any student that enrolled within 2 weeks prior to the testing we have to test them so they can be coming out of the country they could be coming from another school district you know that we are very transient so if they're there two weeks PRI to the testing window they are part of our scoring process um any student entering at a level one that gives us 5 years to demonstrate fors progress and hopefully get them to the 4.5 to exit out level two we have four years level three we have um 3 years and so forth and so on okay all right so looking at our scores we tested 67 um lse so some of our students do reuse Services we are still required to test them regardless if the parent refuses or not um you'll see that 24% we entering at the level 1 19% emerging at level two 40% at level three 15% at level four and then 1% at bridging and then Z at six usually uh most students really don't get to level six because they'll exit out before that and here's just like a chart to make it you can kind of see where we fall at the different grade stands and then all grade level so 40% of our population's right um at the developing level we want to get them to the extending level that 4.5 area right so these are the subgroups by race you can see that most um the majority of our subgroups in this in our eles are Hispanic so we have 80 8% there let's see and then gender you'll also see that our f population out test our male population for the most part which is um the same in most of our assessments and then weer buy the different subps We R SL 504 special ed so we had 17 students that were uh special ed K to 5 that were tested um 12 at the middle school and then we had yes some so they're also some of them are struggling um and then as well as also being identified as um an elll Le so some of the interventions in place that we have we do run a parent advisory we do that in the morning at peruso the parents do come in um and we work with them we show them how to use genit we show them how to use any of the programs to support uh their Learners at home um this year we will have a new feature in Talking Point um not only will translate the text messages in the home language but any document that's attached like the PDF document will also be translated for the parents so a fly that home will be translated on our app system um we are going to be offering Extended Learning opportun is just for Al their title refunding so there'll be a two program um more for our newcomer so that just means any student that um not only is an L but is a newcomer to the country uh we are you'll see tonight on the board recommendation that we will continue to do our 15 hours of shelter instruction training for staff so any staff that has has not been trained what the opportunity to be trained um our elll teachers go to yearly conference and then um some curriculum items we purchased with our title refunding to support them our newcomer kits we keep getting a lot of newcomers from out of the country so in order for our um elll teachers to support them properly we did add uh newcomer Pips to support them with instruction and then for the middle and high school we got these new scam pens uh that will actually allow the students to scan something that they can't read basically um so that will support them in their uh like their normal instruction so their mainstream instruction English class science class so they don't speak the language but they are uh listening to it in English so this will allow them to scan it the textbook the computer and then it will speak to them in their that they'll be able to what countries are the children coming from uh most of them are coming like just from like they'll come from Mexico we have uh we did have some say Dominican ER we have if we go back to the demographic I would say most of them are come are coming we have Colombia like there was there was a lot yeah but I have to say we have a good variety but most of them are span so like this year Al when I looked at the numbers at the elementary school like we were debating whether or not we could run a full by anual class uh but there are certain criteria numbers for that by uh grce span and we missed it by a couple of kids but like that might be an option down the road to support those students um but again we would have to you know um the requirements for that we would have to identify Sometimes they come straight over to like a we'll get a report card from some sort of like like they came over and then um they I guess there a c somewhere in between before they come to school so we'll get a report card that we would have to then go through evaluate for placement but they were there only for like a couple of months and we just say like yeah language arts on it so it's like identifying where the proper placement where they should be we do have to really like look into like there's no like spr TR script that comes over um any questions in regard everything I had any other questions no no thank you thank you all right thank you for that um moving on any committee reports seeing none we'll move on um any questions and comments relating to board agenda items only seeing none we'll close that portion oh uh there we go sorry uh need a motion for the approval of minutes I'll make the motion okay call please Mrs felle yes Miss Karan yes
