Part: 1

1
00:01:06.400 --> 00:01:22.320
Everyone, good evening and welcome to the counterworth board of education meeting. This meeting is being held in accordance with the schedule of meetings adopted at the organizational meeting held on January 5th, 2026. Adequate notice of this meeting of the count board of education has been

2
00:01:22.320 --> 00:01:38.640
provided to the home news trabune, the star ledger and lo local source on January 15, 2026. A copy has been filed with Kennorth Burough clerk posted in the board office Kennorth Burough Hall breard schools as is provided by the

3
00:01:38.640 --> 00:01:53.280
public meetings act. Please stand and join me in the flag salute. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and

4
00:01:53.280 --> 00:02:10.399
justice for all. Okay, roll call. Mr. Ber >> Crankoli >> here. >> David here. >> Haber Herdina >> here. >> Lead. >> Panichi. >> Tears here. >> Zimmerman >> here.

5
00:02:10.399 --> 00:02:27.200
>> We have quorum. I'd like to make entertain a motion to sustain regular order of business for the student performance we're about to hear. >> Okay. Motion made by Mrs. Zimmerman, second by

6
00:02:27.200 --> 00:02:47.040
Mr. Der David. All those in favor? >> Opposed? Eyes have it. Okay, Mr. Davies. Good evening everyone. I am excited to start our board of education meeting tonight in Brley's auditorium. Uh five years ago when I was principal, Miss

7
00:02:47.040 --> 00:03:02.800
Pavle and I were looking for ways to enhance the school experience for our students. We were bringing in new electives. We were modernizing our course offerings and we wanted to find programs that resonated with students to engage them and motivate them to want to be in school. The thinking was and still

8
00:03:02.800 --> 00:03:19.440
is the more the students want to be here at Brley, the more engaged they will be and the more they will buy into our academic programming. When engagement rises, student attendance rises as does academic achievement. Back then, Miss Pavlech said, "Hey, Davies, what about a dance program?" I

9
00:03:19.440 --> 00:03:35.440
said, "Hey, Witchell," her former name, that's crazy. we don't have a teacher. We don't have a dance studio and I don't know that our students will engage with dance at school. Well, she persisted and I supported and the board of education supported and the rest is history. And

10
00:03:35.440 --> 00:03:51.680
now we have a dynamic, energetic four-year Brillley dance program. So, I am proud to introduce Miss Pavleek who was the catalyst behind the Brley dance program. But before she comes up here, a quick disclaimer from Miss Dennis Lozik. Please be advised that this performance contains flashing lights and strobe

11
00:03:51.680 --> 00:04:10.879
effects. These may affect individuals with photosensitive conditions. Audience members who may be sensitive should take appropriate precautions, especially during the first dance, the only dance. Miss Pal. Thank you, Mr. Davies. As Mr. Davyy said, "Five years ago, when I became the

12
00:04:10.879 --> 00:04:25.680
assistant principal of David Brley Middle High School, I knew that David Brley was someplace special, but I felt like something was missing. As we were exploring new courses, I felt like we needed a spark. We needed a place where students could feel like they could be

13
00:04:25.680 --> 00:04:41.280
themselves, drop the academics for a period. For me, when I was in high school, that was my dance class. So, as Mr. Davyy said, "I proposed this program and with his support, the support of the administrative team and the board, this journey began."

14
00:04:41.280 --> 00:04:58.479
That next year, we started our dance program. During Miss S's first year leading this program, we worried it might not be sustainable. Seventh and eighth graders took the class as a cycle and an elective. And at the high school level, we had two classes, one with 18 students and one with seven students.

15
00:04:58.479 --> 00:05:15.199
Students dropped the course because they were scared. scared to take their shoes off in a class at school, scared to perform in a concert, scared to put themselves out there. On top of that, Miss S didn't have a dedicated dance classroom. Despite every challenge, Miss S persisted and began to build something

16
00:05:15.199 --> 00:05:32.160
beautiful for our school. After that first year, the dance classroom at David Brley was officially designed and built by Mr. Connelly and the maintenance team. And it has since become a safe space for students, a place where they can put down the pen and paper for a period and express themselves in environment where they can

17
00:05:32.160 --> 00:05:48.400
work on a different set of skills. Over the past four years, the dance program has continued to evolve and grow. Interest has steadily increased and we have gone from classes of seven students to a high school program with over 70 students and a waiting list. We

18
00:05:48.400 --> 00:06:04.160
have 52 students enrolled in the eighth grade elective, also with a waiting list, along with a dance club, a national dance honor society, performances at Teen Arts, an advanced dance course with a formal audition process, and many more accomplishments that Miss S will tell you about after

19
00:06:04.160 --> 00:06:18.800
the performance. Next year, the program is expected to grow even further with the addition of a dance 2 course between dance one and advanced dance. Already 60 students have requested high school dance one alone

20
00:06:18.800 --> 00:06:35.199
with only 28 available spots and 41 incoming eighth graders selected dance as their first choice elective. Once again, there will be waiting lists in both the middle school and high school. Miss S could not have built this program without the dedication and commitment of

21
00:06:35.199 --> 00:06:50.400
her seniors that you'll see on stage in a little bit with the advanced dance crew and other seniors in her other classes. some of which have joined as freshmen since the inception of the program, others who joined along the way. Um, thank you for believing in the program

22
00:06:50.400 --> 00:11:51.839
to our seniors and our advanced dancers. And without further ado, please watch their performance. Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo. Heat. Heat. Happy birthday. Oh.

23
00:11:51.839 --> 00:12:10.000
Oh. I think I'm losing my way. My mind is driving insane.

24
00:12:10.000 --> 00:13:02.519
I got stuck in your echo. I got stuck in your I real I I'm losing my way. My mind is drivingane.

25
00:13:04.800 --> 00:13:23.079
I think I'm losing my way. My mind is driving insane. I got stuck in your

26
00:13:26.800 --> 00:14:16.639
I got stuck in your I got your I used to be your I am flesh, bones. I am skin, soul.

27
00:14:16.639 --> 00:14:39.880
I am human. Nothing more than human. I am sweat, flaws. I am veins, scars. I am human.

28
00:14:40.560 --> 00:16:35.519
Nothing more than human. I am human. I am human. Heat. Heat. Human. Human. Hum. human. Great job to our advanced dancers on that performance. And now Miss S is

29
00:16:35.519 --> 00:16:54.880
going to speak a little bit more about the program. Good job, guys. Hello, my name is Rachel Stannis Lazik and I am the teacher here at David Burley Middle School and David Burley High School dance program. I want to

30
00:16:54.880 --> 00:17:10.319
begin by thanking uh the board members for allowing us to be here tonight and present for you and for um and I want to wish all of our mothers in the audience a very happy Mother's Day.

31
00:17:10.319 --> 00:17:27.919
As yes, shout out to the moms. As I reflect on the past four years of this program, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the continued support of our students, their families, the board of education, and the Brley administration.

32
00:17:27.919 --> 00:17:45.200
In this program, our students use dance to explore creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Together, we have built a strong community of young artists who are passionate about sharing their research, their perspectives, and creative work

33
00:17:45.200 --> 00:18:06.960
with the larger Kennallworth audience. I would now like to invite Alyssa Ventura forward to share a brief synopsis of the artistic intention behind the dance you just witnessed. Okay. Our dance is meant to represent the fact that many people feel like in

34
00:18:06.960 --> 00:18:22.480
front of certain people they need to act a certain way or hide certain parts of themselves. So the masks are meant to represent how you can hide parts of yourself or do certain things in front of other people to feel accepted and how you'll act differently with your family at the dinner table compared to a party

35
00:18:22.480 --> 00:18:40.880
with your friends or when you're alone in your room. And then taking off the mask is meant to represent being vulnerable and being your authentic self. Thank you, Alyssa. Next, I would like to reflect on 12 of our accomplishments over the past four years in this

36
00:18:40.880 --> 00:18:57.120
program. To kick off each school year, we start with our Hispanic Heritage Night Flash Mob. This year, our flash mob featured over 130 students, grades 7 through 12, who came together as a community to perform. We perform

37
00:18:57.120 --> 00:19:12.480
annually at Brerley's annual celebration of black culture event where students created dances reflecting of their own experiences as African-American individuals living within our country. We part partnered twice with Princeton

38
00:19:12.480 --> 00:19:28.160
University concerts to participate and perform in their annual movement jam. We collaborated with American Reparatory Ballet's dance for Parkinson's program where students joined Zoom classes where they took um dance classes with people

39
00:19:28.160 --> 00:19:45.120
who had Parkin Parkinson's disease and their caregivers. This year we collaborated with Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company to host a middle school dance assembly where her company members came in and taught our middle school students and our dancers went on

40
00:19:45.120 --> 00:20:00.799
their day of dance field trip where they presented works and received feedback from Carolyn and the company members. Each year we collaborate with the Brley Band and choir to produce our winter concert. And over the past two years we

41
00:20:00.799 --> 00:20:18.320
have created evening length productions of our own variations of the Nutcracker and the Polar Express. Every spring we produce our annual spring dance concert featuring collaborative choreography between myself and the students. And this year

42
00:20:18.320 --> 00:20:33.600
we had over a hundred students grade grades eight through 12 perform in the production. Last year following our concert we then went to Harding Elementary School and we performed for the second and third grade students. Last spring we partnered with Alliance

43
00:20:33.600 --> 00:20:49.280
Orthopedics to bring physical therapists into our classroom and teach students safe movement practices and injury prevention in dance. We have performed annually at the Union County Teen Arts Festival and for the past three years we have presented

44
00:20:49.280 --> 00:21:05.120
student choreography projects for the feedback committees. This year as Mrs. Pavleek said um was our first annual um Brley advanced dance audition where we brought in two professionals from the fields Madison

45
00:21:05.120 --> 00:21:19.840
Meredith and Julia Shikatano to serve on our adjudication panel. And in preparation for next year, we de developed three scaffolded levels of dance in the high school so that students can progress from dance one to dance level two and then finally

46
00:21:19.840 --> 00:21:37.360
advanced dance in preparation for um our school year. As Mrs. Pavle also mentioned that we have had weight lists um to join dance classes for the past three years. And finally, we established a secondary chapter of the National

47
00:21:37.360 --> 00:21:54.320
Dance Education Organization's National Dance Honors Society and inducted 23 dance students during our ceremony last week. As we look ahead towards the future, we are excited to continue to expand new opportunities for our student population.

48
00:21:54.320 --> 00:22:10.159
Some of these initiatives include welcoming back a Brley Dance alumni, Milan Clear. Um she is coming home from UPEN and she is going to teach the students hiphop dance classes. We are looking forward to providing a memorial

49
00:22:10.159 --> 00:22:27.120
performance to commemorate the 25-y year anniversary of 911 for our greater Kennallworth community. And additionally, we are eager to have our advanced dancers push into our first and second grade classrooms at Harding and teach them dance classes. I just want to

50
00:22:27.120 --> 00:22:45.039
thank you all again for your support um with the growth of this program and I also want to bring forward three special seniors to present their medallions from the National Dance Education Organization. So can we have Sophia

51
00:22:45.039 --> 00:23:42.320
Lammana, Madison Lipkkey, and Maya Levy step down. Thank you, Mr. Uh thank you so much Miss Stanislik. Uh wonderful program. Thank you to the students for performing tonight and showing to the board and our public uh some of the great work that's happening at David Brley Middle School and High

52
00:23:42.320 --> 00:24:06.880
School. Uh what a fantastic performance and I loved your performance last week as well. So congratulations. Uh thank you so much for being here and we look forward to some great things happening with uh our dance program moving forward. So congratulations and thank you so much. >> Thank you. We're gonna do one group photo uh

53
00:24:06.880 --> 00:24:23.039
because I know some parents are in the audience that maybe want to take a group photo of advanced dance real quick. Uh so we'll just have a squeeze in. >> Maybe like a few can hop down on the floor. >> Half on the floor, half seated. >> And any parents who want to take a quick

54
00:24:23.039 --> 00:25:03.600
photo of our group? >> Miss S, you're in this? Yes. >> Everybody say stand. Uh, thank you so much everyone for being here. Appreciate your time students and Miss S. Um, have a wonderful evening and just a reminder how great the arts are

55
00:25:03.600 --> 00:25:21.520
here in Kennallorth and how great the arts are flourishing at David Brley. Uh, so thanks for all of your hard work. Congratulations and thank you. And for you those for those of you viewing at home streaming, uh we're going to take a five minute recess to allow us to go back to the board

56
00:25:21.520 --> 00:29:27.840
conference room to continue the meeting. Thank you. Have a good night. Okay. Good evening and welcome back. Um, is there a motion to reconvene uh the meeting? >> Second. >> Okay. Motion. All those in favor? >> I.

57
00:29:27.840 --> 00:29:44.480
>> Okay. Opposed? Okay. We're back. >> Okay. All right. >> Um, no roll call again or no? Should we do >> uh Yeah, we probably should do roll call again. That's right. We did that last time, right? >> We did two salutes. Thanks. I think we should. >> Yeah, we could do we could do two roll calls. Uh, Biner >> here. >> Crinkoli >> here.

58
00:29:44.480 --> 00:29:58.320
>> David >> here. >> Haber. >> Herdina >> here. >> Lead >> here. >> Tears >> here. >> Zimmerman. >> Fichi >> here. >> We have a quorum. >> Thank you. Good evening everyone and welcome. We will now have the receiving of the minutes and the committee notes

62
00:30:47.840 --> 00:31:04.720
November uh school board election to April. That's it for the month. >> Can I have a motion to accept the monthly correspondence? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Good. >> Motion made by Mr. Houdina, seconded by Mrs. Tears. All those in favor of

64
00:31:20.480 --> 00:31:38.880
>> Hello, Katie. Good evening. >> Good evening. >> Good evening, everybody. I hope you're all well and had a wonderful weekend. I want to start off today with an update on our spring sports. Baseball. The baseball team has won six games in a row and won eight of their last nine

65
00:31:38.880 --> 00:31:56.080
overall. They pulled an upset victory against Oratory in round one of the Union County tournament and the team is looking to continue momentum into the state tournament and I know I'm really looking forward to see all their amazing wins. The softball team currently holds a 13-3 record and has won its last eight

66
00:31:56.080 --> 00:32:13.120
games. Gia Perozi recorded over 300 strikeouts this season while also excelling offensively in the leadoff spot. Seniors Lily Cleo and Amber Wacki will continue their softball careers at the collegiate level. Lily Cleo to Albbright College and Amber Waki to Dick

67
00:32:13.120 --> 00:32:29.679
Dickinson College, which is fantastic because only 6.5% of women continue to play collegiate softball according to the NCAA data. The team's also competing in the county tournament quarterfinals and celebrating senior night this week and they are doing a great job. Our Lady

68
00:32:29.679 --> 00:32:45.600
Bears golf continues to do amazing in the season making Bley proud. And lastly, track and field. The girls track team won the Karnney Relays team championships with 126 points. At the conference championships, 23 athletes

69
00:32:45.600 --> 00:33:04.559
placed across 21 events. The girls 4x 400 relay team ran a pen relays qualifying time of 4 minutes and 20 seconds. At the Union County Championships, 15 athletes placed 10th or higher across all 12 events. The team

70
00:33:04.559 --> 00:33:19.919
is also preparing for the upcoming state s sectional championships. So, go Bears. Looking back, the David Brley Theater presented its annual musical Cinderella with two outstanding performances in the auditorium on April 17th and 18th where

71
00:33:19.919 --> 00:33:35.360
they showcased their months of hard work and talent. It was really amazing and I I hope you all were there. If not, I'm really disappointed. These seniors celebrated National Decision Day on May 1st with many David Brley High School seniors committing to great colleges and universities.

72
00:33:35.360 --> 00:33:51.760
At the end, guys, come on. A a two-day voter registration event was held during senior open lunch on May 4th and 5th, allowing eligible students to register to vote and encouraging civic engagement and participation within our student body. Also on May 4th, Hector Chiru and

73
00:33:51.760 --> 00:34:06.480
I, who's actually here tonight, I'm adding you. Um, we're both seniors at Brley. We gave our final presentations for the CYAC program where we shared the work we had completed over the past six months where we were recognized with certificates of recognition for

74
00:34:06.480 --> 00:34:22.800
completing the first ever CYAC program. You may ask what is the CYAC program? >> What is the CYAC program? >> That's a wonderful question. It is the Congressional Youth Advisory Council Program. It is a civic engagement initiative that brings together students from across New Jerseys 10th

75
00:34:22.800 --> 00:34:38.879
congressional district to learn about government policy and community advocacy while contributing to student perspectives on local issues. Our work centered around drafting mock bills that would hypothetically be presented in Congress. My group specifically focused on a mental health bill while Hector's

76
00:34:38.879 --> 00:34:55.839
group developed one on women's rights. We collaborated with students across the district, heard from guest speakers, and conducted research within our own Brley community through questionnaires and analysis to better understand student need and perspectives. This work directly connected local student voices

77
00:34:55.839 --> 00:35:12.800
to broaden district level conversations on civic engagement and policy. And the program concluded in a presentation in front of the congresswoman Lmon Monica Mccyver herself, which is really which is really fun. Secondly, the David Brley dance performed an amazing dance showcase. As

78
00:35:12.800 --> 00:35:28.160
we all saw tonight, they were amazing. I was wowed. Highlighting the creativity, dedication, and talent of our student performers. The high school STEM and Business students attended an innovation expo at the Stevens Institute of Technology on May 8th where they

79
00:35:28.160 --> 00:35:43.839
explored innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, and future possible career opportunities, which is really exciting. I loved hearing all about it. Now, looking forward, AP testing will continue through May 15th for students enrolled in AP placement courses. The

80
00:35:43.839 --> 00:35:59.760
spring concert will take place on May 13th at 7 p.m. in the auditorium featuring the middle school band, choir along with the high school band, choir, and jazz ensemble in a night celebrating music and student talent. Junior and senior prom will be held on May 21st at

81
00:35:59.760 --> 00:36:17.119
Sidefire Grand with the confirmed theme being Rio. Also, prom release forms need to be handed in by next Monday, the 18th. And a school blood drive will be taken will take place in the main gym on May 28th at from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. allowing

82
00:36:17.119 --> 00:36:32.240
students to donate blood and support an important community cause. And anybody interested can contact Mrs. Condo for more information. And I will now open the floor to any questions anyone may have. >> I have I have a question. >> Katie, have you decided where you're going to school next year?

83
00:36:32.240 --> 00:36:50.960
>> That's such a wonderful point. that you bring up. I I would I'm going to formally announce my commitment to Drexler University in the fall for political science. >> Thank you all very much. If there's any more questions, maybe. >> Great job. Thank you. >> Thank you. All righty. Have a wonderful

84
00:36:50.960 --> 00:37:06.960
rest of your evening. It's always a pleasure. >> Thank you. >> Thank you. Uh congratulations to both Katie and Hector on the CYCA program. Also just wanted to let the board know that the uh the voter registration drive was Katie Lima's um efforts. Um so we were able to get a whole bunch of um

85
00:37:06.960 --> 00:37:22.960
students um registered to vote uh which is just a wonderful you know civic responsibility. So I appreciate Katie's work to make that happen. Um so thank you Katie and goes without saying um you know next month is your last meeting here with us and uh you will be missed um but we look forward to seeing you

86
00:37:22.960 --> 00:37:40.320
again in June. >> Uh a couple of additions to the superintendent report. Um, I just wanted to also uh send out my congratulations to Mr. Mills at Harding and the entire cast and crew of The Little Mermaid Jr. They performed this past Friday. Um, two

87
00:37:40.320 --> 00:37:55.599
shows during the school day for the student body and the faculty as well as a nighttime show for the parent community. Um, was packed house fantastic performance. There were over 50 Harding students involved in the production. Um, and they really put on a wonderful show as always. So,

88
00:37:55.599 --> 00:38:10.640
congratulations Mr. Mills, the other faculty uh advisers as well as the cast and crew. Um also wanted to just bring everyone's attention to resolution number 24 in the agenda that is regarding a revision proposal to the school calendar. Uh just to give you a

89
00:38:10.640 --> 00:38:25.839
quick synopsis, um we had originally approved the school calendar for the 2627 school year at the March meeting. We had done our research to determine when the best opportunity for spring break for 2027 would be. Um, and we

90
00:38:25.839 --> 00:38:44.160
selected the weekend prior to Easter. Um, and lo and behold, last month in April, UCBTS uh came out with its calendar. Um, and their spring break is the week after Easter. It is really important that we align our spring break to um UCBTS so

91
00:38:44.160 --> 00:39:00.560
that our students who participate whether they're full-time students or sharetime students. Uh we have a large number of students uh at the high school as well as just full-time full-timers who go there uh for the entire school day. It's important for families that we align our spring break. So that's the proposal in your packets for resolution

92
00:39:00.560 --> 00:39:16.000
number 24 to to revise spring break for 2027. Um so I just wanted you all to be aware of that. It also aligns um with some of our surrounding districts. Not everyone in Union County is in unison on this. Um but Clark, Hillside, Springfield um several other communities

93
00:39:16.000 --> 00:39:31.200
will now have the same spring spring break as us in Kennallorth should you approve resolution 24. Uh as Katie mentioned, testing is ongoing here at Breley for AP exams. Also a reminder to all Brley families that NJSLA testing

94
00:39:31.200 --> 00:39:47.040
begins here at Brley on Thursday. Uh the there have been communications from the various principles whether middle school or high school regarding delayed openings and timings and all sorts of logistics. So please make sure you check your email regarding NJSLA. Harding completed the ELA and math sections of

95
00:39:47.040 --> 00:40:02.000
NJSLA last week. Uh so that went very smoothly over at Harding and I believe science is coming up. Um so that is our district testing. Also I want the board to be aware of preK um lotteryies and communications. Um, prek3 lottery was

96
00:40:02.000 --> 00:40:18.000
held last week. Um, there are 15 total seats for prek3 moving forward. 10 for general education students, five for students with IEPs. There were 41 students registered. So, a lottery was held last week via Zoom. 10 spots were selected for those gened seats. Um, the

97
00:40:18.000 --> 00:40:34.079
remaining individuals are on a waiting list. Letters and emails went out today to those preK3 families um regarding their spot in the lottery. And those families that were selected for the lottery have to accept by June 1st. At that point, if they haven't accepted, we

98
00:40:34.079 --> 00:40:50.320
start moving down the wait list. So that's for our preK3. There's one section of preK3 for next year. Regarding preK4, um there are four sections of preK four for next year. That is an increase as you know. Um so we've traditionally have had three

99
00:40:50.320 --> 00:41:06.000
sections of preK at Harding. We've now increased that to five, which we're really excited about. um to allow our students to gain that early access to their education. Um so there are more seats available than ever before thanks to the support of the referendum from the community. Um but regarding PreK4,

100
00:41:06.000 --> 00:41:23.760
uh there are 36 seats available for general education students, nine for students with IEPs. Um the students who are currently in our three-year-old program are moving into the four-year program, four-year-old program. Um which means there are an additional 38 seats uh students um registered. uh lottery

101
00:41:23.760 --> 00:41:40.400
will be held this week um on 5:13 also via Zoom and then letters and emails will go out on the 18th to inform families of their lottery slot and then selected families need to accept by June 8th. So, a lot of details about that.

102
00:41:40.400 --> 00:41:56.480
That is all on our website. Um it's been communicated out to parents. Um and the the details of that are on our registration site in our website if you're getting any questions from the public. I know that's a very um important process, the prek lottery. A final reminder for me is that the David

103
00:41:56.480 --> 00:42:12.000
Brley essay scholarship uh is coming due May 15th. Um so that is a one-time uh opportunity sponsored by the board of education. Who was David Brley? Um this is in honor of our 250th anniversary of the uh Declaration of Independence. So

104
00:42:12.000 --> 00:42:29.119
we're excited to offer that um for that scholarship May 15th deadline for our seniors. Um, you'll see in your packet there's the April HIB report. There are three investigations that were at the high school and two were at the middle school. Uh, and you're voting on tonight

105
00:42:29.119 --> 00:42:46.400
resolution 53. Those are the HIVs from the month of March which we reviewed at last month's meeting. Also in your packet, April discipline report, the enrollment report, and the residency report. I'll give you a moment to review uh any of the HIV information

106
00:42:46.400 --> 00:43:48.880
or the other reports and determine if you have any questions. Does anyone need more time? We can take another few minutes if we need. >> If there are no questions then uh thank you so much Dr. Bonichi. Uh thank you for um your report Katie and um

107
00:43:48.880 --> 00:44:04.400
appreciate it. >> Okay. Thank you Superintendent Davies. We will now move on to report of committees review of resolution and board discussion. Up first is Mr. Liddotti. Finance facilities and negotiations. >> Okay. Thank you. Um though the construction has not started on the prek

108
00:44:04.400 --> 00:44:20.400
classrooms. Behind the scenes approvals and ordering of all the equipment has taken place. The new additions elevators expected to be installed sometime in June. The Harding School Boulder Park is complete and the students have all received safety instructions during our

109
00:44:20.400 --> 00:44:38.079
physical education classes. Um the bar and associates are finishing up the 2004 2025 financial audit. They've been in in and out of the district for the past month gathering data and that's in addition to the data we've uploaded um to their secure portal. The tennis and

110
00:44:38.079 --> 00:44:54.240
the new tennis and pickle ball courts have been milled and repaved. They need about 30 days to cure before we can do the final product the final products can be applied. So that's getting going. Um Mr. Davis and Mr. Mr. Canella, Mr. Connelly have been reviewing some of the summer projects that include classroom

111
00:44:54.240 --> 00:45:10.160
renovations. This work will be done internally. um um whereby our staff assisted by the summer help that's being hired this evening in resolution 47 um is going to do all the work and over the years um I think they probably say tens of thousands of dollars by getting since

112
00:45:10.160 --> 00:45:26.720
Mr. Ganella has used our in-house people to um do a lot of our work in the school and it's saved thousands of dollars. So, um instead of all this stuff going out to vendors. So, uh moving to resolutions um one through four. I reviewed the bill list and the financials and did not

113
00:45:26.720 --> 00:45:42.560
identify any outliers or items of concern. Um there were no line item transfers between um business lines exceeding the $5,000 cap. So, coupled with Mr. Davy's report, that'll cover the first four resolutions. Um, resolution six, the referendum payments,

114
00:45:42.560 --> 00:46:00.240
um, authorizes $27,268 to SSP architects and triform construction for the ongoing work at the Harding preschool bathrooms and classroom projects. Um, you know, numbers been continuously reducing since we started this whole thing. Um

115
00:46:00.240 --> 00:46:16.560
resolution 78, specialized professional services, appoints care station medical group for staff and student screenings and children's specialized hospital for district-wise therapy services uh for the upcoming year. Resolution nine is the tax payment

116
00:46:16.560 --> 00:46:32.160
schedule approves the mandatory monthly schedule of local tax levies to be received from the bureau for 2026 2027. Resolutions 10 through 14 are annual um financial reorganizations. Basically, that's all the stuff we need to get the

117
00:46:32.160 --> 00:46:47.359
going for next year. Authorizes the implementation of the new budget. Designate official banks and depositories. Establish essential transfer and prepayment authorities um for the business administrator and superintendent. 15 and 16 are cooperative and state

118
00:46:47.359 --> 00:47:02.160
contract purchasing. renews participation in various national and state cooperative pricing system to ensure the district receives competitive bulk pricing on all school supplies and services. 17 through 19 administrative software

119
00:47:02.160 --> 00:47:18.319
and benefits management approves annual contracts for um 403b administration budgetary accounting and the genes genesis student information system. 20 is the healthcare renewals and this is the big one. You may be aware that the district faced many districts face

120
00:47:18.319 --> 00:47:33.839
challenges um in the area of medical premiums this year. We are not the we're not the exception. We aggressively even though we aggressively market our plans, the resolution approves a 24.5% medical renewal. And we also um implemented a a

121
00:47:33.839 --> 00:47:50.000
strategic shift to dent uh Delta Delta Dental which provided an enhanced network and a 3.8 8 rate decrease. So, at least that was something. Um, resolutions 21 and 22 are athletic agreements, renews the

122
00:47:50.000 --> 00:48:05.520
wrestling cooperative program with Jonathan Dayton High School and authorizes us into the NJSIA membership on membership dues. Resolution 23 is food service management renews the contract with Machio's food

123
00:48:05.520 --> 00:48:20.800
service for um year two featuring a break even financial guarantee and approves the and the approval of the 2026 2027 meal prices which are included in your packet. Um 24 is the calendar

124
00:48:20.800 --> 00:48:36.559
revision that Mr. Davyy spoke about. And I think that's all I have and I think that's about enough. So that's all I have. Questions for myself or Mr. Vanella or Mr. Davies on the financials? >> Nope. Thank you guys. That's all I got.

125
00:48:36.559 --> 00:48:53.280
>> Okay. Thank you, Mr. Ludati. We will now move on to personnel and management. Mr. G. >> Thank you. Okay. So, the personnel committee met several times since our last board meeting. Agenda items included interviewing candidates for the school business administrator/board secretary position, reviewing the

126
00:48:53.280 --> 00:49:11.040
strategic plan, discussing proposed stipens and receiving updates and on the health benefits renewal and staffing resolutions on this evening's agenda. There are a lot of um resolutions under personnel this evening. Resolutions 25 through 26, 25

127
00:49:11.040 --> 00:49:28.800
and 26 accepts the resignations of Cynthia Duna, who's a Harding teacher, and Joanna Canter, who's a really Spanish teacher. Resolution 27 approves the district's official leadership and reporting structure for the upcoming school year. Resolutions 28 through31

128
00:49:28.800 --> 00:49:46.640
welcomes McKenzie Conroy, Karine Levy, and Bridget Warren as new special education teachers for the 2020 2026 2027 school year and appoints two new cafeteria playground aids for the current term. Resolution 32 approves the transfer of Alexis Palowski to the

129
00:49:46.640 --> 00:50:01.599
position of intervention program coordinator/Oog teacher at Harding Elementary School. Resolutions 33 through 39 authorized the renewal of contracts for the 2026 2027 school year for all qualifying certified

130
00:50:01.599 --> 00:50:17.200
instructional staff, paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodial/maintenance workers, and the administrative team. Resolutions 1441 um approves the 2026 2027 employment contracts for superintendent Jeremy Davies and

131
00:50:17.200 --> 00:50:32.160
assistant school business administrator Vincent Canella. Resolutions 42 through 44 approves the instructional and paraprofessional staffing for the special education extended school year, the ESA summer

132
00:50:32.160 --> 00:50:48.319
grant programs, title one and three, and the middle and high school summer enrichment programs. Resolution 45 authorizes child study team and guidance staff to provide summer counseling, scheduling, and case management and sets the contractual rates for the summer

133
00:50:48.319 --> 00:51:05.680
evaluations and IEP meeting facilitation. Resolution 46 appoints district nurses to process student medical data and athletic physicals during the summer months. Resolution 47 authorizes summer seasonal help for painting, landscaping,

134
00:51:05.680 --> 00:51:22.800
and facilities projects and appoints Jamie Lugo to oversee the summer support crew. Resolution 48 appro a authorizes properly certified staff to serve as substitutes for summer programming to ensure continuous coverage. Resolution 49 reappoints Dr. James Aggressi as the

135
00:51:22.800 --> 00:51:40.160
district physician for the 2026 2027 school year to oversee medical consultations and student health services. 50 designates administrative staff to required statutory roles for the 2026 2027 school year, including coordinators for affirmative action,

136
00:51:40.160 --> 00:51:57.200
title 9, HIV, school safety, and facilities compliance. 51 approves the addition of new substitute teachers and aids to the district's active roster for the remainder of the current school year. 52 approves a revised allocation of hours and stipens for the staff members providing after school tutoring

137
00:51:57.200 --> 00:52:11.760
for middle school students. And lastly, 55 covers the modification and abolishing of stipen job descriptions discussed by the committee on April 27th. >> That's it.

138
00:52:11.760 --> 00:52:28.160
>> Any more questions for >> Well, go ahead and say what you're going to say because we may be on the same key. >> A note about those job descriptions in resolution 54. There are no Just want to clarify. There are no clubs or advisorships being abolished. simply the

139
00:52:28.160 --> 00:52:44.720
job descriptions are being abolished so that we are creating um blanket club advisor job description. Um we were in we're are we are introducing new club positions for the middle school. That was part of our budget goal uh for 2627.

140
00:52:44.720 --> 00:53:00.000
In so doing we were realizing that there's so many job descriptions for so many different clubs. it made more sense to have one club advisorship um job description for all club adviserss rather than an individual club advisorship for each one. So there's now

141
00:53:00.000 --> 00:53:16.319
a this is you're basically approving a club adviser. It's the third one down on that chart on resolution 54 club adviser. You're approving a generic club advisor job description. The 1 2 3 4 5 six that are being abolished, those clubs are remaining in

142
00:53:16.319 --> 00:53:34.400
place. We're simply abolishing the job description that associated with it and now those positions will be um under the umbrella of a club adviser. >> Are we on the same page? >> No, we're not. >> Okay. >> Um resolution 41. I think it's important

143
00:53:34.400 --> 00:53:50.880
that we um just make some sort of general u acknowledgement to the public so that there's an understanding. In other words, get ahead of the questions. going to be people who are going to say what the heck's going on here

144
00:53:50.880 --> 00:54:07.680
>> budgetary times you know we as a board understand the logic and reasoning for this >> but the public >> sure >> should have some sort of a >> yeah so resolution 41 is the approval of u Mr. Ganella as assistant school business administrator which after 37

145
00:54:07.680 --> 00:54:25.200
years feels like a demotion but um you know as you may know Mr. Ganella has announced his retirement effective September 30th. Um he specifically chose that date um because he wanted to ensure that Kenworth's next school business administrator and board secretary has um

146
00:54:25.200 --> 00:54:41.920
has a three-month overlap to learn um all the tricks of the trade and the nuances of the position so that the health of the school district can remain. Uh so Mr. Gell is remaining on for an additional three months. The reason why he had to be um named an

147
00:54:41.920 --> 00:54:58.319
assistant school business administrator is because a school district can only have one business administrator at a time. Um that's a state statute thing. So we have to make sure we comply with state statute and then we can hire our business administrator >> and then he will be an assistant staying on for three months to train, mentor,

148
00:54:58.319 --> 00:55:14.640
coach, tutor um and provide that support. Thank you, M. >> All right. Thank you. >> Can I just add something? >> Yes, please. not only to not only the mentoring and the training piece, but I'm also going to be fulfilling my obligations to finish the 2526 audit and handling the construction

149
00:55:14.640 --> 00:55:31.200
projects that are taking place over the summer. So, >> yes. Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Any questions? >> Okay. Thank you. We will now move on to curriculum instruction. Mrs. Uh there's one resolution tonight. Resolution 53. Uh and that's the

150
00:55:31.200 --> 00:55:49.760
acceptance of the HIP report from March. Anyone have any questions or need a moment? Okay. Thank you so much, Mrs. Tears. We will now move on to old business. Does anyone have any old business? No. Um my old business is always the

151
00:55:49.760 --> 00:56:06.799
same to mention and to remind the public that we have websites, social media accounts, you have district leadership. Please make sure that you're leveraging all those options and getting the information from the administrators and from the district and reaching out if you need support. Any new business?

152
00:56:06.799 --> 00:56:23.440
No. We wanted to just thank the PTO. Um teacher appreciation month was very successful and the PTO's uh both Harding the middle school really spent a lot of time, a lot of donations and work to make it really special for the teachers. So we would like to acknowledge them. Um and also there were many many parents

153
00:56:23.440 --> 00:56:40.000
who um gave donations and just things to make it special. So we'd like to acknowledge everyone with all the other things happening. Um it does help to you know give some everyone a little bit of extra care. So they're countlessly there for us. So we'd like to thank them. Anyone else? Anything under new

154
00:56:40.000 --> 00:56:55.520
business? >> No. >> Okay. We're now going to open up the meeting to the public for comment. Can I please have a motion to open up the meeting to the public? >> So move. >> Second. >> Second. Motion made by Mr. David, seconded by Mrs. Zimmerman. All those in favor of opening the meeting to the

155
00:56:55.520 --> 00:57:15.520
public, please say I. I. >> Opposed? Eyes have it. Motion's carries. Mr. Ganell. >> Public comment will now be accepted. The board of education sets a limit for the public to speak at the board of meeting to five minutes per person unless prior permission has been granted by the board

156
00:57:15.520 --> 00:57:32.079
of education for extend extended time pursuant to BOE policy uh by and bylaw 0167. Please be reminded that while members of the public may speak on personal matters during public comment, the board of education is legally prohibited from

157
00:57:32.079 --> 00:57:48.240
discussing individual personnel issues in public unless the employee at issue has requested a public discussion. The board's role is to set policy, ensure effective operation of our schools while personnel recommendations are the exclusive responsibility of the

158
00:57:48.240 --> 00:58:04.960
superintendent of schools. Uh the board uh reviews and acts on those recommendations in accordance with state law and the district policy, but does not initiate or manage individual staffing decisions. If you approach the podium, please state your name and

159
00:58:04.960 --> 00:58:23.280
address for the record. >> Is there any public that would like to make a comment at this time? >> Hi, >> good evening. I'm Arya Sha. I'm a eighth grader here at David Bley Middle School. This year, Miss Powjack, Miss Murphy,

160
00:58:23.280 --> 00:58:39.040
and I have decided to host the first multicultural night in the middle school. At this event, there will be many cultures represented and showing how diverse our schools as a community is. I'll be representing India and some other countries that will be represented

161
00:58:39.040 --> 00:58:56.240
in this event will be Greece, Italy, Cerninam, Thailand, Venezuela, and many more. Today I would like to invite the board to come and see the multicultural night on Thursday, May 21st at 6 pm in the allpurpose room here um in the high

162
00:58:56.240 --> 00:59:15.359
school. Hope to see you there. Have a nice evening. >> Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Any other public? >> I just want to say thank you to Arya. He's also been spearheaded the chess club as well as the science fair. So, um, not only is he here, yes, he's a

163
00:59:15.359 --> 00:59:31.200
very busy man. Um, and we're proud of the work that he's done in the middle school, um, so not only for the multicultural night coming up, but in the past, um, he's also spearheaded a number of, uh, initiatives and it's great to see a young man, um, who takes the bull by the horns and and and

164
00:59:31.200 --> 00:59:46.720
really, um, advocates for programs that he wants to see in our school district. So, thank you, Arya. >> Thank you. >> My name is Kubert Francis. Um I have a a senior in the high school um in a

165
00:59:46.720 --> 01:00:08.559
middle school but um a question about the >> So can you just state your address please? >> My address? >> Address? Yes sir. >> Oh 385 Boulevard 333. >> Sorry about that. Um, so one of the questions about I mean the way how the

166
01:00:08.559 --> 01:00:25.359
world is changing and everything. Um, I think I brought up this to um the superintendent already and I haven't heard anything about the STEM program. Um, when I asked my daughter who attends middle school, she said when she go and ask, she they're telling her, hey, it's

167
01:00:25.359 --> 01:00:41.440
not awarded to her. And I I feel like STEM program should be instilled in most of the academic in schools right now. Um science, maths, computers. So, and I'm just asking if if they need help, I know

168
01:00:41.440 --> 01:00:57.680
people organizations out there who's willing to come on board. Nothing out of your pocket. Everything is funded. Willing to come and um give a helping hand basically. And for the track team, I see um the high

169
01:00:57.680 --> 01:01:13.680
schoolers are doing good. Um commend to that. My daughter is a part of the team. Um sorry that they were not um encouraged to go to the pen. They said they got turned down, but you know, we need to encourage the youth. Um I think

170
01:01:13.680 --> 01:01:30.079
these are stuff that me growing up used to do sports. These are stuff that pushed the the kids. Another thing before I go, I realized the biggest school um sporting like track track meets is not a part of

171
01:01:30.079 --> 01:01:46.160
um the high school or not governed by the same coach which I feel it's not supported the way I was doing cuz I attend my middle school um daughter who's attending there and it's

172
01:01:46.160 --> 01:02:02.480
not supported properly by the coach who's volunteering and even you know even to for us paying to have someone to have them coach and anything is not being done right. >> Right. Thanks.

173
01:02:02.480 --> 01:02:17.040
>> Thank you. >> Thank you, sir. >> Any other public uh that would like to comment at this time? >> No. >> Okay. >> Motion to close the public portion. >> Second. Motion made by Mr. David. David,

174
01:02:17.040 --> 01:02:32.319
seconded by Mrs. Tears. Although Yes. >> Go ahead. >> Do you want to >> just a quick note about um Thank you so much. always appreciate support from the community regarding STEM. It's an expensive endeavor. Um, one of the summer projects that we're looking into right now is a re um a redo of our STEM
