May 13 2024 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting it is 6:33 all right all right so we will start with uh commissioner updates um I know I just got from Michelle I don't know if you got it as well saw the uh the new eval and stuff so I've got to look over that you and I should sort of just go over that um so that we can make sure we're more timely this year than last year um and that's all I have so uh happy to be rejoining you so oh that's right right for another three years and Peter too and Peter nice right yeah um stuck by Touch a Truck like great events lots of people pick trucks so yeah good good things going on over there that was great another all right all right so we all got the minutes from the 6th which was our very quick special meeting is that correct that was literally a me seven minute meeting less less I believe it was actually four three or four um but just to vote the um April minutes y yeah that's it all right so are there any questions or comments above the minutes from May 6 make a motion to approve the minutes from May six I'll second all right all in favor I I'll oppos and the eyes have all right next up discussion on the stien policy so this is a draft that use okay yep so this is literally a first go at it um so it's up to you guys if you want to have a full discussion um we don't we have everything set for um right now uh we will have to for fiscal year uh 25 vote those into being but we could do that in uh June we don't have to do it right now um so but there won't be any new ones that we're creating yeah for next year so that's up to you guys if you want to take your time with this knowing that the only siens that we will be using in the future are the ones that we currently um sure that you guys have uh approved that's it okay think the only other thing to add to that is moving forward as they do the class comp study you know looking at building it into base of the descriptions it's something that you know you guys would like to require as our job and Hing moving forward or something that somebody has so you know that's a way to get away from having policy the next time that that you know grade step process is reevaluated build sure which I think is the preferred method yeah is that sort of like uh that's like the uh certification right the park and W uh cprp standard practice with a lot of other agencies yeah that's how it seems like the administration and HR yeah okay and I we I mean we're already to a place now where they're going to have to redo a class in comp um the the one that they did last time took so long it's already out of date so to speak so um we're kind of behind the eightball on that one um yeah yeah I would think we would want to discuss this when Peter and ker here too so yes absolutely um but I just wanted to if there's anything in there once you review it if you're like wow I really don't like that or I'd like you to change it to this like please um send me an email um and you can edit the heck out of that thing as much as you like and send me a um uh copy with all of your notes on there and is this based on like another departments I kind of Peace Meed it yeah um I took a little bit of pieces from here and there and everywhere um but I looked um in depth on the National Parks and Recreation Association uh they have a library where they have um a whole list of all kinds of documents so everything from rfqs to policies to job descriptions you name it um so that's one of the really great things about our field is that people share things and um you know help each other out it's great cool um do we need to vote on tabling it or no no right I just threw it on there so you guys could review it or if you wish to talk about it you could y but I wanted to make sure that everybody had a copy and just know that send me and it'ss as you feel and we're no no mad hurry yeah so it's just going to be done by July or like fiscal year so 25 starts in June 30th um it starts on July 1 1 so this has to be in the June meeting then I don't it's up to you guys I like I said the the stiens that we are going to use for next year are literally going to be the ones that are create I'm not creating anything new yeah yeah yeah okay do you know what I mean so if if this uh so it's up to you because there are some things in there that say like with the certification um you know you do need to verify that you have the certification or show documentation that you have completed all of the um cus so that you maintain um so those kind of things are are in there so it's up to you all right any quick questions now or do I want to just wait till we're all here yeah all okay awesome cool all right fun stuff yeah project updates all right Tim you want to talk about the first two are years really yeah so um we did uh get approval from DP and we have our official numbers uh to start the project um the uh one piece that they had asked about the walkway project that I submit which I did this uh past week um last Wednesday was to submit our Roan control plan uh essentially what that was is is drawing a blue line across this picture saying that we're going to put Waddles 8ot sections um across the front edge of the beach basically running from the retaining wall where the car is parked all the way back to um Lakes Shore Drive so uh submitted that um that was the only requirement that was put on that uh we also got our numbers for our seasonal docks the stipulation on that was they wanted to know how many of the um posts there were for each doc so I submitted a plan and just kind of highlighted uh from the original plan where the uh posts were going to be other than that we did get approved for the all three requests that we had so the fishion dock the center Dock and sailing dock uh we also got a groupy town meeting for the new Doc sections in capital requests so I'll be putting together uh a plan with Heather who's our ref can do in order to get that stuff on site as soon as possible hopefully we'll be able to ship it and you know get net 60 terms so that we can pay for it on July 1st take delivery on it as soon as they can get it down here ships can so that's uh that's where that's coming from uh so as soon as we get an opportunity um I have consc tomorrow hopefully we'll get the final just kind of approvals once we've read through everything and we'll be able to start making a decision moving forward um as far as the bids go uh I'm going give everybody a call now that we have once we have final approvement to see what everybody's start date potential could possibly be they all came in with a couple thousand dollars of each other uh pretty standard um everybody we gave everybody similar STS on what we looking for so with the exception of you know a couple things here and there um edging versus not edging and stuff like that everybody was pretty dead on their their numbers so moving into that you know uh my next grading criteria will be upward can we get it done right that's our charge right now from the town Administration uh so I'll you know make some Communications and see why people can start and whoever can really start first that's going to be the determining Factor at this point and that's for the walkway yeah so this is uh this is for the walkway um so just so everybody knows um the contractors that we had were uh Jay Scott uh calos um that F Landscaping and um Chum s it's 5et we went five so there was you know more pass room on it so the total distance five by 163 believe wide all right um anything else about dos uh what's next tennis courts do pathway yes do are all set we'll get those on order yeah um so we Tim and I and Mike Lynn met with a representative from activitas um activitas is a um on the state bid list so um with the conversation I think essentially we're going to have to do a different design because the one that we got from places is not going doesn't it's missing some of the requirements for the tennis courts like there's supposed to be an extra 20 ft on the end of the courts that wasn't added in um so he's going to have to rework that space so we'll have to do a couple things um before we're able to actually build so um I'm waiting on him he's going to uh send me a quote on you know what this design cost may be um so we can figure that out um but we're also going to have to conduct a survey of the land we do have we'll call it half a survey from Light and Water they did a a section of that uh space because of the um High School pump house that was there um but we're looking he wants to look a little bit further over like really close to the edge of 36 Kings since we now own that property um so potentially we could use all of that space and have it a buding up against the parking lot which honestly would make things easier because right now there's like this retaining wall that's there so um and it would give us I'm know I'm terrible with the judgments what do you think like another 15 you said 12 on the Indian Hill Side of the property yeah yeah so got we have about 12 feet there um we have 12 feet there we have existing 14 feet up to the curving on the other side so we we have all the wiggle room we need um the the biggest concern in the distancing would be the spacing between the courts um so front to back we're fine um between the courts uh you know we might into a situation where we may or may not be able to actually kind of fit that road because we can't move we're already a buted up against the pp house so you know moving the opposite direction then we start to kind of think about where we had that road cutting through I mean it's all conjectured at this point we'll wait till the survey is done we'll get the right drawings it look like there's enough place to kind of make everything fit um so you know obviously rather than sit here and say oh is it going to work we'll just wait till we get the survey we'll wait till we get the update Appo you know then yeah um there's definitely room to re re at them if we wanted to 2 by two and push towards Indian Hill um and still have the baselines that we need and allow for the road all of that exists that's just you know a much different direction than what we had originally looked to do yeah um so yeah we're going to have to see uh we are going to try to move relatively quick on this as quick as we can um the the when we talked about the timeline there there is potential so with Mike Lyn there we kind of we discussed fall being that time frame that we would look into um it just depends on how far into fall we're going are we you know is it something where we start the project um and then complete as much as we can within the temperature sensitive time frame um and then finish uh certain things up or you know at the beginning of the spring season like you know installing we can put the actual um um like the the pipes in but then to install the fence and then the actual wind screens and things like that um that's something that we could do at a later date or um even the the surfacing um that's something that we could do into spring too I think he had said the biggest thing on our stop point is like everything El let just mentioned could be done during the winter time regardless where run when they shut the right so that's going to be the big determining factor of when they can lay it because uh I believe he said it was something like 45 to 60 dates that they wanted to set before they the top cters yeah so that would be the big thing so you know if we get the asphalt down in the fall before the plant shut as long as the daily aggregate temperatures about 50 degrees you know essentially you can sit all winter and then be coded in the spring yeah and then you know Mike we did mention you know would you be interested could you you know play your first month on the road and then finish up and said potentially that's something ask yeah yeah what else talking the show doesn't have a tennis team and they have those Four Courts up there so it was going to reach job just kind of see if that was the option that's still the Number Four Courts we we still are looking at Four Courts again you know so it depends on what we have spacewise um I'd hate to see it reduced down to three but if that's something that we have to do with that space then you know we'll take a look at that that's the standard and I mean ultimately that's what it goes down to then we should take the time and figure out we have enough we have enough a hill over there and everything else now that we actually have Indian Hill property you know it's obviously everything costs money but if we had to and that was really what we wanted to do we could look at cutting further into that hill behind the parking lot to get another court or get the two courts long than this point it all fits it's just a matter of how much excavation and removal and all that kind of stuff we do we need to look at redrawing property lines so I did talk to our cessor about that um and she said if it was something like Light and Water owned one portion of it and town owned the other then the answer would probably be no we can't do that um but because it's Town property school property is Town property and town owns 36 King as well um it's kind of like uh if you look at Town Hall it's actually a whole bunch of parcels and there's they're buildings overlapping it so she said that um as long as we would get approval from town Administration that um we could we could do that if that's something we desire to do thought they would try and like it it it me you have a problem if they ever sell that part right yeah so and that was my further question of like if we do this like we don't have to go through any process to to make it happen but should we go that extra step after it's done and re because if we were going to rearrange what the parcel lines were we would have to go to town meeting for that vote so you could build without the town meeting V but if you're going to reassess what those lines are then so is that with the pickle ball design still as well or is that a separ no it's literally only four CH that's it yeah yeah um yeah that was something we would we talked about potentially doing down the line but um yeah see that goes okay any other questions are we do we not been on the basketball but did those get pickle ball lines or oh uh so we what we so that's going to be later on but we'll talk about now anyway um so town meeting did approve the resurfacing of the basketball courts um and part of that design was we were actually going to take the single Court that's by itself um and resurface it and put um some kid games and actually stripe um pickle ball quartz there um I think that was on the design right there one pickle ball court soccer Court Four Square put a bunch of different things in there we're gonna get one of those little kind of wall sections with the soccer go King towards the basketball courts so yeah um and then we can take those hoops and you know maybe we bring them down to 30 6 King and put him in the parking lot I don't know we'll have to figure out you're taking that those Hoops down uh yes I think we possibly will yeah we'll probably take those down take them down to Indian Hill so that we can make that Port more multi-use we don't really use the reports all the time kid playground so we we decided on the resurfacing that it might be nicer to put in some of the other elements the Hopscotch the for square the different kind of things that you know kind of create just other for people to and we did put the Gaga pit in right there next to it as well so it kind of makes sense to kind of make that more of a kids area basketball in some sort of a pic table right next to to those that essentially become people read King Street that's what they're right yeah yeah okay okay all right um special deaths sure um so these are pictures from the Frog Pond SL uh Wastewater management uh area cleanup down at Long Lake uh led by Tess Dean and Rob BRS um so the team did an amazing job uh so there is this and more down there because Rob has continued his Crusade long way he's wonderful wonderful neighbor down there thank you for all your hard work Rob if you're listening um Tim Pearson and I have been uh six ways a Sunday trying to figure out how to get a invasive species dumpster which we've gotten the dumpster uh the quest has now been to get the waistband permit which is what we need in order to take it to whichever incinerator that it has to go to uh so I think we nailed that down today um thank you Tim for all his hard work uh we're going to put the dumpster hopefully it will be delivered in the next few days uh we're going to put it on the first two parking spots adjacent to the beach on lakes Shore Drive uh we're going to load all that stuff in there um along with the uh they decided since the first garlic mustard pulled there was rain out um we're going to take all the garlic mustard so now we actually have somewhere to put it um for the second pool and then um we're going to have it removed uh the uh Thursday before Memorial Day weekends when the dumpster will get out of there so we'll have everything cleaned up we have a good opportunity but these guys did an amazing job to get a chance to walk down there you can definitely see the difference it's just starting point when're going continue to work and make sure that that whole area stays cleaned up and uh we work a little little by little here and there in the fall in the spring as you can right sorry you had to sacrifice yourself to poison ivy sorry um all right so t um easily our most well attended Touch of truck to date thank you to Litton fire Litton police uh DPW um everybody came together and made this an awesome event uh I could go on and on about all the businesses but they are listed on our Facebook page um we have some thank you cards that are going out this week uh to everybody to attend it uh we did have West PD midx Sheriff bunch of other uh entities come out uh you know our preliminary guest estimates or we had somewhere between four and 5,000 guests throughout the day we gave away, 1500 little yellow hard hats so you know assuming each of those kids had at least one parent with them um uh we we had a pretty crazy day uh it was packed right up until the end uh we had a couple hundred people still left over when we did the uh parad trucks out of the parking lot um super well attended super excited for next year uh we got so many compliments especially from the vendors who came came and displayed trucks about how well laid out it was and everything else um and that uh they you know they thought that it was awesome so uh our roaming railroad guy he literally travels all over the country and he said it was one of the best setups he's ever seen so um we really really had a great day thank you to Salah buy and uh Jim dougen for helping get the space uh put together for us it definitely uh helps to have something like that with ample parking and ample places to you know do all of that so thank you to everybody who made it happen thanks for stopping by DW put mini dumpsters oh that's cool um all right third Thursday so this is our first Thursday uh coming up May 16th um it is uh not probably going to be a Park cuz it's already a little wet and uh we're supposed to get rain on Wednesday uh so please take a look at our Facebook page uh most likely we'll probably be reverting back to 300 King Street location like we did last year um as far as that goes we're still looking for vendors um I'm not I'm pretty much sold that we're not going to do May ever again it's just it's so hard to get people we have nine uh actual people uh who are setting up booths right now for May um you know June July August are exactly how they always are where we have you know ample vendors and we have more coming in on the day so definitely something that we'll reassess for next year but I don't think we're going to offer in May offering anymore I just think everything's too tight and everybody's trying to get the Finish Line with school and sports and all those kind of things um so yeah so third Thursday please check back at our Facebook page um we are scheduled to have uh the chicken run run food truck and uh the band wolf playing um local artist so um we'll have Rock just a little bit of everything little bit everything yeah uh and then uh yeah we'll be putting out um we don't yet have our food truck planned out for um June but we'll put that out there once we kind of have down that the June date is actually the second Thursday because the rotary is doing their big carnival um at the 550 site um very similar to the Apple Blossom Festival that they have Westford so first Wheels tractions all that kind of stuff right so we should probably change on the website to just skip that up the date um for that one all right that with it on the website okay cool all right um okay so um I just put on the articles that uh applied to our department um so article four was the I put fiscal year uh 2024 and it's 2025 sorry operating budget uh that passed um article nine which was a free cash transfer to the um Community preservation committee that passed um and that includes uh a Debt Service payment um for the tennis courts um so we haven't spent any money yet but we will have that money to be able to spend um article 10 um so that was the budget for the uh CPC so that includes the resurfacing of the basketball courts that we already talked about um and the funds to replace the old dock at Long Lake uh and to uh create a fishing dock over on the conservation side um article 12 it funded the rehabilitation for 36 King Street or the Indian Hill Music Center um so they are actually going to get started with that uh as soon as they possibly can uh I believe they're going to start with the um hbac system because that's been kind of one of the bigger issues um in the building so um so that is going um the fiscal year 2025 revolving funds all passed um so that included our evolving uh and they increase the cap to 1.5 million um and then article 23 um they approved the uh fy2 compensation grid um and so what that did was it applied a 2.5% salary adjustment to schedule a and schedule B but it really schedule a is the only thing that really affects our department um so that would be all the full-time workers and then um article 25 transferred funds from the capital stabilization fund um to pay for a portion of the King Street renovation um so all of those passed um it was a a pretty efficient meeting they got uh this was the first time we got to use the uh voting clickers which was unbelievably uncomplicated and wonderful it was uh best money I think the town spent in a long time um so that was beautiful uh to be able yeah if we didn't do that we would have definitely had multiple nights for sure um so yeah it was a good experience any questions comments concerns no um I think the only thing that didn't pass was the um there was a request for to sell portions um of the orchard uh and that needed a 2/3 vote um and it failed by two votes I found out today yeah depends on how you count but yeah it's yes or no s well no but it was 138 to 26 yeah if you doubled the low number was more six or eight votes more than 2/3 if you okay so um so that was one of the feedback uh one of the pieces of feedback that they did give at town meeting was that they wanted to see if it was a 2third why it passed or why it didn't pass because so then people aren't like trying to calculate new mouth in their head so um that's something they'll look into doing uh next time so we'll see but otherwise yeah it was really good um and easy surprising right uh finances um we're still doing really great um we've had amazing last couple months um I don't think going into so it's starting to trickle down a little bit um so last year in April we had uh collected um a lot more money than we had previously but our February was insane um and we've already gotten to the point with um Camp have one were sold out of all but one week is that right sounds right I think that's right um so I mean for it to be I mean that was the beginning of May um end of April that we had already sold out so um that's just unheard of that's not something we've never sold out that quickly before so that's a it's a new thing um so yeah that is something in the future future we'll definitely have to take a look at you know do we need to increase that program um what does that look like um you know is the school willing to give us a little bit more space in the summertime so that we can you know make sure that we're trying to cover as many people as we possibly can right um because I think if we're my interpretation of the mission statement is that you know if we have a ton of people on the waiting list and we're not necessarily you know meeting that tool of getting programming to all the people that need it so um yeah so that's something you know we'll we'll talk about and try to figure out for next year how um how we tackle that uh but there's a lot of other amazing programs um so hopefully people will you know take up fishing or sailing or we have so many different enrichment um programs that are week long um so hopefully that will give um families an alternative other than Camp te so yes it it to look at you know over last couple years is there particular age group that's over subscribed or yeah some is there something that is there that you can could pull out to the certain more teen Adventures like program yeah for younger kids wherever it seems like well that's where it gets hard so with teen Adventures um I think our cap we usually keep around like 50 um and the it's the the younger age group um Junior Camp if you will um that we end up getting so many kids and that's the situation where we really would need to have more space in schools to be able to you know make that work for that age group um or you know have to come up with a different type of programming or figure out you know does you know I'm just throwing this like senior Camp um do they go somewhere else and we just have you know the younger group of kids there I have no idea we have to look at um all kinds of different options and just try to figure out how to innovate and brainstorm through that um challenge yeah yeah yeah I mean this especially with IND coming on board next year we might have some opportunity work and see how we can rearrange the space that we're currently in and you know maybe put the senior camp on the second floor team Advent has you know talk about doing some stuff like that ideally we can you know work with schools and get some more classrooms then continue to kind of push we we have no issue get them sack we turn away yeah an ample amount of kids uh who are well qualified to be Camp Council but we just don't have the room for all yeah do we think about like Russell Street or the Middle School the issue becomes how do we how do we get people down to Long Lake how do we move around the Specialists you know yeah it is an idea if we could get space in Russell Street you know how do we develop that up we've talked about three years now just not get this van that we just can't get our hands on and buy a school bus and somebody wants to drive it yeah um because if we had something like that that would then make that something that we could possibly think about but you know hiring a bus for $450 whatever dollars a day that we're paying right now to achieve that goal is is not something that's really sustainable sure if we're paying a driver whatever you know yeah fair market driver is for great now that would be something that we could absolutely work the numers yeah yeah I know that we you know one of the programs I ran we own the bus and we just hired the driver and you know the bus drivers a lot of them are always looking for something to do in the summertime if they can get a Monday through Friday night to five right yeah yeah yeah I mean then if we had something like that then the guy's 11 because you know we could go R Street in Hill to the there's all sorts of stuff that we could possibly do so that is part of our ongoing conversation and I think it needs to become more of a reality than yeah we've thought about it in the past yeah like is that something that we asked for in capital right this upcoming year yeah the OCC occupancy next summer uh they actually said I believe they said March of next year yeah so is there's not really any space for us to grow into to the point it's already completely once we yeah once we move in there that whole Space is already used yeah and then the opportunity there is then you base teen Adventures out there in the morning downstairs the in the team Center which we could do and then for the time being we some people the the second and the third Flor as long as we have access that's how we could kind of move some that around yeah no all right because we also have preschool camps starting this year that's our new thing that we all board so we're half day preschool Camp te running out of 41 track Street Kelly's been doing an amazing job with that program rapidly growing and that that's also something that you know we've had a lot of people ask about is that something that we can do year round so um yeah that's something else again we we have tremendous staff um there's a desire from the community to you know to have these programs we're just limited by space is what it comes down to so um yeah I can't can't say enough about Kelly she's just absolutely phenomenal and magic with preschool kids she's unbelievable so we're very lucky to have her um okay so annual staff evaluation so kind of echoing what you said earlier um so we did I mentioned this last month um that we did sign that contract with performyard um we did do a staff training so I uh as soon as I get that from Annie um I will send it to two of you so you can watch it because they recorded our session she s it on Thursday did she send it already Okay I haven't seen that yet but all right I'll go back through and look um and this morning we had a uh department head meeting and HR is going to be sending out uh a schedule um of everything for the end of the year um so they're asking to actually have evaluations completed by June 7th which is a lot earlier than it was last year um you guys just missed it by a couple months yeah it's like eight or nine months um but I'm I'm very hopeful I do believe that using this perform yard um system will make things a lot easier um yeah so that's that's a department yes town is still doing something differ or yeah the town's still going to do the that regular paper form um but we've set up um perform yard in the way that um it is um what's word it has the weighted calculations so that um first part of the section is um all of the like spacing the name of age not goals the goals are at the bottom those are yeah they're like competencies or something um so all of those I think there's about seven core competencies um so that's up there that's worth the 35% which is uh what the document says right um and then the goals at the bottom um are worth that 65% um and the goals are uh they're different in in perform yard and the fact that you can create them and then as we go through the years um like um I'll use Annie's example of uh you have to complete three training certifications whatever for the year so every time that you complete one you go in and um you'll see an actual um uh graph where it will go up through the year and it allows you to change that goal so if you get like I don't know three trainings done in six months you could bump it up to six and then have to do three more throughout the year um so it's fully um flexible and um it really we're hoping will really serve the the staff for them to be able to have um not only these like tangible goals that they can see um but knowing that if they hit those that we can amend that or if they're struggling with it we can amend that um it allows a lot of flexibility um to make sure that we can get the stuff done that we need to get done yep yeah all right um so new business uh we have all staff training uh on Wednesday night so we're going to be onboarding all the summer seasonal staff I think we have around 80 this year um so that will take place um tomorrow evening and um yeah if you've not seen it before it's something pretty fantastic so if you want to drop by and see 80 kids going through at the office or is it at it it will be so it's going to be at the prce office Kevin we made we made okay the whole first floor we'll use it all stop by come say hello and St chicken chicken um yeah since we're doing it during dinner time we feed we feed them um good so yeah it's uh it's a good time it's uh awesome the energy that you get from all the kids they're so excited to see each other again and start another season so um yeah it's a good experience all right um so I just kind of wanted to throw this out here and get your thoughts on this um so we completed the The Rock Garden in April 2022 so it's been two years um um and it didn't it's funny because at the time I remember having all these questions and thinking you know people are going to paint all over the park and there's going to be rocks everywhere and the reality is there's no rocks at all um and the um sections where they had actually painstakingly gone through and created the maze there's like there's nothing other than those two rocks um at this point in time which was like the start and end um of of it um so wasn't there wasn't like barrier what's that there was landscape egging or [Music] barrier yeah um I mean they had if you can you look at the first one they did dig down and have some of the rocks in there but um yeah the entire pattern is completely gone um what's that they're in the woods oh really oh the kids just picked him up and threw him in there I was G say interesting well that that was a thought that wasn't I yeah really didn't yeah anyway um I wanted to throw it out there that you know maybe this is because that it is a piece of property that could be used um it is definitely something um we should think about since it really hasn't been used in the last two years years um so one of the options or things that we were thinking about and Tim had already talked about a little bit earlier was um you know when we do these these rentals at 300 King there's not really a place for people to be able to rent um so we've been looking at these ideas of like these you know hexagonal um pillions that would be able to kind of fit in that space on on that footprint so these are just kind of a couple of different examples um there's more of a metal open space you've got the oldfashioned wood that's a little more enclosed um so I just kind of wanted to throw it out there and see what you guys think about it um obviously we we want to talk to uh the folks that did all that work you know and and say this is something that we're considering doing um because it it did take a lot of time and effort for them um but at the same time it's just not really working I think the way that they had expected it to um the thought behind it was beautiful and genuine but um yeah so I don't know I just kind of want to throw it out there and see what you guys thought about this didn't they say they were gonna do some like ongoing maintenance or something like there was a question we asked them yeah no one ever circled back with anything but we'll come up with something we did so that's that's not quite Fair because there was a Girl Scout Troop that when it first opened um they did like an event where the kids painted the rocks and they put them out there um and they had reached out recently to ask if they can do that again but at the same time there's no pattern to follow anymore you know so or who's going to go out there and actually stake everything out it's like I kind of liken it to um when the guys used to have to do the athletic fields before the Turf cake you know they'd have to go out and stake out lines and then walk so far and stake out another and it's like it's a lot it's a lot of work um for something that's not really getting the use that that we had kind of hoped that it would but I think we like reach out to them and say if you're still going to do this we need to see a main a plan for upkeep and yeah whatever just give them that option my guess is that they won't come through with that and we just then put a pavilion there I mean are there do you guys have other thoughts or ideas I'm not like you know putting you on the spot if there's if you want time to think about it I'm just trying to think of how we use that space the only other thing we've talked about in this in the previous times is you know that be that would also be a good footprint for a um a public restroom facility one of the dro in place facilities yeah with the composting toilets or you know we put some sort of same situation we have we're pumping out we're pumping out quarter potties right now we put a tight tank underneath it same thing man CER is pumped out it be pumped out but that would be that would be a good spot and I mean eventually we're going to make our money back because you know we're spending $600 a month on porta potties right now yeah it's getting really more exp every year it's I think yeah like a two stall you know tank simple building is there water there yeah there's water at the front I mean that's the one thing we do actually the water pressure out there is insane like we can't I mean that's that's half you know I mean that's you're halfway there if you got water there yeah you know tight take man what do you think if we put if we put the bathroom down there and then the you know the little single picnic pilion around the park in various spots that that could be another opportunity for us because originally when we talked about the restroom the footprint was we're going to push in to the Masons area because we're going to put that the parking lot we have the c c funds approved and we ended up pulling that project yeah so this if you actually walk down there is really the only space where there's actually room where you could get one of those prefabbed buildings where you need to put the concrete in and everything else and it takes about day and a half to hook everything to up and you're ready to go and with the the amount of use that gets on a beautiful Saturday and Sunday it's I mean I think it's a great idea to put a facility the only thing we would need to then look at is a senior tax worker to maybe go down there and clean or something like that um in order just keep the facilities up a lot of the bathrooms now come with you know time locks they even have apps that are connected to them where you know you get an alert if something's going on so as far as like opening and closing the facility every day those things are taken care of by modern technology it's the Cleaning piece that we would need to look at that would be our our main focus or even just physically having somebody there to prevent people from you know doing vandalism or making poor choices yeah I say I think location of trash right it's it does I mean there are places that are not that have facilities and they're not really monitored but it's even the challeng we SE bodies yeah yeah yeah they you they they're fine in a controll environment you know everybody use appropriately functional I was it's one of the things we talked about abely but yeah I think that's sort of the I think as you move that direction we're also going to find want water fountains and other things and it's it's in trash there's going to be more trash more people and going to need to be stashed that's kind of well the more people it's limited right you can only there's only so many parking spots and sure there's different ways you could get around that but um yeah for the majority of it like the you know we had talked in previous years about extending um the parking space but there's just not with the parking that we have it's already over run um so you know I don't I don't think it makes any sense to to grow the parking lot any bigger but um yeah yeah I guess there I think we talked about that I think two summers ago now Garen was still here talk about how you know eventually we do want to get to the model where you know people read parties the staff M there you know with the different types of things that you know most places do provide rent facil yeah is there so porta potties are back out yeah Port are there yeah what we had our we had our first pumping this week and there was ample amounts of trash yeah so yeah the one at corpa was horrible on oh really but it was like Sunday at 6 you know and it was you mean it was dirty well it was just full of trash yeah that's but that that goes back to you know and we'll have a conversation because you know that's that's soccer parents that's them not taking their stuff and thrun in there oh yeah under King Street is moms and diapers most of the time it's just one of those things it goes back to we talked about this last June like at some point we have to say enough is enough and like hey you're going to lose bath privileges yeah I mean we're just not going to put them out there this is going to continue yeah because we pay an extra 170 per pumping when there's trash in the units yeah yeah um do you so I wonder if I should put those signs back out again that I did in multiple languages um because I do feel like it went down a bit I mean we're g I think this is one of the things we're gonna have to evaluate regularly of uh yeah the the pack in pack out concept is lovely but yeah it doesn't work it doesn't work and but I also don't know what the trash option is either because it's like the more cans you put the more more yeah it just multiplies I mean we don't really have a problem keeping up with it we got Summer Staff here yeah it's it's you know after Summer Staff leaves and then we pull the trash cans and if we pull them on Labor Day then people just continue to throw trash everywhere and once one person then it's not yeah I don't have an answer we talking about in the past like the right the big yeah those are the good Le ser like you can get your trash that you're there into them but it's hard to like bring a right yeah I mean that's fair don't really see that too much I mean that's that's like a rarity no at at 300 King like people will park and like clean out their whole cars and that's not too much I mean right now it's just he boxes and the problem is like you get one person who shoves pizza box in there on like Saturday and by Monday it's just because everybody just doesn't understand the concept fits yeah all right get that up okay um we had a donation from the Ed Walsh foundation for the Youth scholarship fund um for 2000 uh so that is something yes I would you you guys to vote that to accept it right we get a motion make a motion to accept the $2,000 donation from the Ed Foundation to the second all right all in favor iose and the eyes have yeah thank you very much they amazing um okay uh this I just found out about today so I just wanted to put this out here um if any of you are interested so they're they're really only sending this out to boards um and department heads um but the Sudbury Valley Trust is going to be uh presenting um some sort of tool um to be able to PRI look at prioritizing land for protection um so it sounds like it should be a pretty interesting uh presentation so that's going to be on um interesting May 20th 2024 um there's an extra zero in there um I copied and pasted this from their uh their flyer so um yeah that's interesting uh anyway um so if you guys are are interested um it would probably be a good um presentation to go check out um so especially being on CPC with open space and things like that um that would be a good one for you she's signing you up for another throw it out there I mean I'm gonna attend so um as long as I'm able to yeah um but it sounds like a really interesting um tool to be able to look at we just did a lot of this work with the open space and recre yeah um okay and uh old business so it looks like the summer meetings so Monday June 10th and Monday July 8th worked for everybody um so we can uh vote to change those um August we didn't have a quum for either day so uh that's something that we either need to have the discussion do we move it to uh a week before a week after do we not meet in August did we not meet in August last year it's happened yeah yeah it's happened in the past we did not I mean I would you know unless there's a we had a August meeting I think so because it was on my birthday for like two years in a row yeah that like June or July I know one of the months we didn't come it was July it's Fourth of July week maybe that's yeah um so August you don't have to make a decision now I mean again there's only three of you so that's up to you guys um but I would say if you want to vote the June 10th and 8th um I've already got this room um we've let lctv know so we'll be able to get the zoom um credentials and all that so we should be good right I'll make a motion to accept the new meeting night for par commission for Monday June 10th 2024 and Monday July 8th 2024 all starting at 6:30 all in favor I I I'll oppose all right and then we'll just figure out August and June we will what uh I just had one question what's what's going on with the lights down at uh 300K nothing yet okay good all right yeah right so I I actually talked to Steve yley last week and he W he wanted to have the discussion of do we keep them in the same exact spot or do we move them outside of the parking lot um but we ultimately decided to leave them inside the parking lot because um I mean this is just kind of a weird fluke that both of them got hit within like a month of each other they've never really been touched up to that point I mean one had kind of a a ding on the the center piece of it but I mean they've been up for years and not had any issues so um security standpoint if you put them on the outside though you be want on the other side you get the same amount of lighting in the paring lot see that again if we move them we probably to add light because you move all the light you concentrate all the light on a side rather than the Saturn you wouldn't have that well I was thinking more of like you know having to move electric Works under and it just it didn't seem worth the hassle yeah um if it becomes an issue if like we put them up and they both get knocked down next month then you we can have that conversation maybe some additional concrete around them yeah I maybe I don't know light killer um but uh highway just redid All The Mulch now the playground so it looks all fluffy and beautiful um we keep remarking that the color is completely different uh but Tim said that this is probably just like freshly made stuff rather than it's been sit around for a while little dark over time but uh yeah it's super bright um it looks beautiful they did a really great job so nice all right all right motion to adjourn anyone I'll make a motion to adjourn tonight's meeting all right all in favor I I'll oppose nay the eyes out we are done shape hold on we got 7:35 darn darn
