says to appoint the board members as listed I'm okay with the the I'm on does anybody else have any wanting to change there we need to the Transportation one because that was Scots yeah I'm willing to stand looks like Scott just on the transportation and what does it look like well we haven't had a transportation a long um my dad is a buer I got a little I used to be on it but that's when you still had busing running between the various schools so um is it talking about like the contract and stuff and also there we sometimes had conversations about where we pick up children in different things if with an issue that kind of thing so um it's not a lot of okay then I guess we've got them all covered there so now we'll take the motion to appoint the board members committe say list to be in favor say I those okay 4.3 of the board compensation Mees we'll take a look at those regular board meetings were 100 committee meetings 75 see that they're listed on the sheet um is that the federal for the safek keeping inv say all right we are to there's T 6.0 sent agenda need a motion I'll second anybody have any questions just had a question a couple things on the budget when I was looking at if I'm reading it right here to dat we should be at around 50% and some of the things were at 93% of the budget 102% sorry I can't get it Elementary and secondary regular instruction what is that and what is our plan because we've got another six months of you know until the end of June with our funding year what what what is causing that that we're have to look at it again some some of it is items that have been purchased and it won't be purchased any longer yeah all the curriculum in the summer and all the a lot of the supplies that the teachers order are all ordered in July so they have them for the beginning of the year and I still have to adjust the budget because so that was purchased early on and it just carries on for the whole year yeah all the yeah some of those might have been at 93% for a while yes because several teachers had used up their budgets already yeah anybody else got any other questions in favoring percent say I okay Communications reports um 7.1 is Administration in not here he's gone written report okay he's commented on the um Business and Professional vpa you'll have 26 students competing in that Friday is on January 2 Sports meets coming up we'll move on 7.12 Todd ber all right I'll be pretty quick tonight a lot of uh these items are going to come up next month we be able to report on R fast Bridge testing of prep that's coming up uh we do have I've got my letters training on Wednesday and the staff will do their unit three on Friday so uh we continue to be on track with that probably another month or so Mr we and myself we'll start looking at phase two which will be the kind of fourth through 12th grade we've got a lot of our four through five already kind of signed up as well as high school special ad so we're already kind of ahead of that but uh be in that next phase to process hopefully will just be a year depending on which program that we that we look at so keep working on that uh we're on the last kind of last week of the twoe testing cycle for January fast Bri so my next board meeting will be able to kind of hopefully share some positive data on where we're at so our quarter wraps up we'll do some celebrations for this quarter as well as uh some of the fast bre results that'll be coming up and then we did preschool scening so uh there was a conflict with the Bethy church so we did it here U at school and things went really smooth so maybe something that we look to to change so using High School Lis in the classrooms in that pre so um the second they did want to fall that one has a little bit of a a bigger turnout this one a little bit of the youngers but about 30 kids came through today so I we're somewhere in that 58 totaling where kids go and then who moves in who moves out so it's a pretty good pretty good number to start with for preschool okay anything else that's all I have do you have any questions for thank you to all right je awesome thank you uh Light report for you this is call before the storm and uh so we're hitting the ground running right now is is uh had some meetings that set up so right now we're at things against the wall and see sticks we're just coming up with ideas we're brainstorming lots of different things about things we could do to improve um and and then trying to gain some feedback on that so as we uh as we get into course registration coming up uh we have the the registration booklet or the um the course booklet actually have been given to the teachers so they can tweak any course offerings that they have always try to encourage people to come with something new something Innovative and make it fun to teach I it's not always fun to teach the same over and over because a good idea that you can have and you can implement it let's do it um and so we've got to get that ready and then we have uh our course registration fair to where we have the teachers and outside agencies come in and talk to the kids about different things we have Midwest they'll come in we have the CEO program which is thankfully back and active in again we have them come in and present to the kids and uh just try to keep the interest up so we can do as many opportunities out there for our students as possible and then the the really big thing hits is like between now and registration we're looking at six weeks so we have a lot of things to make sure we get wrapped up them down before we we get to the conferences conferences are on February 27th and March 6th and registration will happen at conferences so it's always good to your parents tell me more about this classid just want to register and be done um and so we got that going on and then one thing I want to highlight uh Miss bristley is having a fast up parent night always get parents to come in that maybe have questions about getting signed up for student loans and those kinds of things get that taken care of so be able to provide that service to families is uh is with that said last thing welcome thank you absolutely you have any questions for me you um get students asking for particular courses or showing an interest in specific things you do at times yeah so try to gauge how much interest that would be it's something we could add and and really what we do is we take those numbers of of of the interest and then miss bristy and I have to have some sometimes tough conversations and go okay we don't we don't have the numbers to support this class in this class and then I have to sit teachers talk about what our needs might look like and kind of R behind something yeah a trendy conversation with the students this last year was they would like to have a meat cutting class so there's a handful schools in southwest Minnesota had invested in the stand coun tops and certain saws and things like that so that was a there was a traveling traveling trailer that you could time share kind of and and have it at your school for a certain amount of time to be able to cover that you something for me yeah just sorry if I missed it but you talked about your getting input to improve when I didn't improve on what was it the student side of it course offerings what we can what we can do what just bear with me for a second sorry um one of the most powerful things that was ever said to me was by a superintendent and she said to everybody at a workshop I want you to take one thing that you do in class and make it interesting for yourself I'm giving you permission to do that and all you need to do is tell me what you did and then tell me how it went and it might fail spectacularly but at least you tried something different and so having that permission to to go outside the box and that to say it's okay to fail and even modeling that for our kids is something that's important i' I've told the story four dozen times since I've been here that's a good conversation to have because as Educators it's it's easy to so well I have to cover this standard I have to cover this yes you have to cover the standards but you can do it and enjoy your job at the exact same time and sometimes we all know you get I like say was one time I I got into a fight with my wife as we were both getting into our VI that was a tough day to come to for and it's okay to be a human and to to say this is going at my job and so why not make our jobs fun and make it interesting to us that's okay so that's that's one of those elements it's like if there's a class you always wanted to teach let's make it happen let's see if we can get the kids interested so that's where that that registration so uh it is the evening of the 22nd this one questioning all um I and the district has been working with Mr weatley and Mr bam for PR for for next year not only looking at class side but also to you know looking at what what what who who are our staff who will they be um we do have a handful of staff that teaching staff that are out of field placement and when you have out of field placement there's C rules you know requires you to follow so in terms of posting things so let's say if we were looking for a new math teacher and you simply could not find we the first time you have something field you only have to post it for 15 days but if the second time the third time multiple times it has to be posted for six0 days you have to prove the pel that you've you've done your due diligence to find somebody these full licing so we do have a handful of teachers that are out field um with a of field placement those teachers can only use five years of aof field placement during their entire career and not consecutively could be 10 years ago they had one last year they had one then they have used up two um Co was excused so if you had an out of field Co year that did not count and now it's it's challenging to share this but the last two years just because of teacher shortages last year and the year before also did not account for other field placement so given given that Grace so just working with Mr ber and Mr we just to make sure we have fully licensed teachers in those areas and if they aren't currently how are we going to get them to that point before next fall uh it is the negotiation season you know so working with working with Kim to get budget information and you know what pool of funds are there or available for the negotiations even though the negotiation season has begun um the teachers union which is the largest group of staff that we have request the negotiations to start and so they will come to me their their even reps will come to me with a letter asking for that process to start that L that letter has not been given to me actually it a go to Julie as well um as as the chair um that has not begun yet but I would imagine it will very very soon um superintendent surgeon is underway last week on on Friday we we met um with Amy Jordan from the sour School Board Association to put together a timeline um that timeline and the vacancy brochure um that will become live tomorrow and so therefore working with Jesse today and then to get that out on our website and social media hands too so that can be can be shared um it also was shared with staff today too so they know what the timeline is and what that vacancy Bill sure looks like and then the link that msba provided us for any feedback that they may have um this mascot that's back here in the corner we've been the Wolverine since the early 1990s and um he had he or she has not had a name um and so therefore we we started the conversation over holiday break with just a couple of Staff members it's like we should turn this into a student thing you know and allow it to you know them them to pick it so they're they're starting the process this week to generate some names um that that either are creative or humorous or match the area you know in terms of you know's what things about people or whatever might be you know that makes McCrae a unique place um then we'll take that number and we'll break that down um into the Top bgs If You Will and then the kids will select the name of the Wolverine and uh snow days are at the end of this at the end of this month and that's when the name will be revealed so the Wolverine will have have a name um Mr Wy has already put in a name he have an idea so would you like to sh that your your idea no okay all right no you share it I won screw it up wants to call it MC rage so that comes through the um you'll get a stien or something start passing candy out the kids um during the month of December um the the music department was very successful U from Miss Meer down the elementary school to miss manenberg and Mr grun up here at the high school put together very good holiday concerts um the the elementary holiday concert was once again very well attended during the day um during the mat and so it's just excited to see those kids show off the different things that they have this fall so very successful with the winter concerts um there was a graduate panel not history of The Graduate panel but Mr Wheatley Miss mock Miss bristley and M PL um for how how long has it been do you think Mr we I no it's definitely preceded me okay um so and I believe I remember hearing about it every year the uh at the so each each fall um just before holiday break when some students are back either from from college or from the military or whatever they've chosen to be in um they they put together a panel of these students that are one year removed from the pre and we build the auditorium with seniors and they get to kind of share hey what does my fall look like and then uh and it's great to see just the maturity and the responsibility of these kids that they've only been graduated for six months you know but they they're the what they share it's like the wisdom of just a sage you know like it's been you know out in the world for decades and decades and stuff like that but but it's just a wonderful opportunity again to Showcase kids and kids to give instruction to other kids and uh it's just great to see on December the 19th um we did not have very good weather so it had to be postponed and so it was done when we just got back you in January but very successful um our very first e-learning day was on December um the 19th and uh you know that that's a decision that you know takes careful consideration um because I believe everybody in this room and anybody that's watching you know online knows the that we can provide our kids when they're in school with their teacher um but when you do have you know roads that are difficult to pass um is my responsibility to make sure those kids and the staff are safe and so I thank you to the school board for giving um the pr schools and myself that opportunity to use those e-learning days um at our at our commun so I appreciate that um it's you know the days leading up to bad weather you know I'm already thinking about it and already you know checking in with with the Weather Service and things like that you know probably 24 to 48 hours all M having conversations with other superintendents you know around the area and following that so I do not take that decision likely to to to have an even day so thank you any questions you guys might have what's our breakdown of snow days e learning days so there was a time let's say you turn Dr clock five years ago in which there was really no such thing as e-learning days and there were snow days and some District shows have snow days that were simply forgiven and so they would put a couple extra days in their calendar so they have that flexibility and then during you know the the co era when e-learning became a more of a an opportunity or more kids had individual computers that they maybe didn't have 10 years ago um a lot of snow a lot of districts took snow days and just removed them so we're just you know coming back in June there's nothing magical about coming back in June other than you're making up time the education in on you know like June 6th or something like that is is not it's not wonderful you know it's just this it's just a stretch of days so so McCrae has chosen to have you can have the state allows you to have five new learning days um the McCrae school board has decided that we we'll use three uh and then we'll we'll make other days up and then when those three are made up then we can go back and use the other two e-learning days but we're not going to have e learning days just because the state says you can have them um and so Mr weatley and Mr beram they put together a school calendar each year in which there are some days that are designated that if we've already used our three learning Days by e-learning Days by this date we're coming to schol on that so they're built in you're curious if you go on to the website the calendar has shaded kind of a pink color those do makeup your question or okay yeah just what is the to be split but what is the to be to our district it's very hard to plan so is there a way that in negotiations that we can at least visit with staff saying and telling you all this I'm really disappointed that the state has come out with something that Purp that that certainly will will come compensation it's so difficult when the legislature changes the law you know to meet the calendar you know January 1st because that's in the middle of a school year and it's the middle of a school contract you know so that that is difficult what what that forces schools to do is have memorandums of understanding orou uh to open that contract back up to change it so yeah I appreciate that hope we have conversation yeah but it's it's extremely difficult to to plan thank you we are on to 7.2 committees we don't have any Comm reports but I just wanted to say that um with the superintendent search going out tomorrow and St start posting it um board wise and we don't have anything happening until February meeting but just want to let people know that on January 21st MSD is going to be hosting an informational question and answer session on Zoom which will be recorded reviewing throughout the search time but um it's going to be at 4M on January 21st 2025 and on the school website will be posted that information how you can um and hopefully in the paper or people can access that if they want to see that information so that Zoom link and the question and answer document will be will be live on our social media platform and our web page tomorrow and then also to Jesse will also send that back out on the morning of the 21st so that people have to REM we' connected with the paper talk about how not everybody to go to the is this meting so yeah I'll I'll reach out to Scott City to make sure that s the time anything else anybody wants to say about that or discussion we'll move on to 8.0 business items and we need a resolution approval resolution directed in the administration to make recommendations for theas uh so any questions or discuss need ation make the motion to approve the resolution directing Administration ructions and Reas have to do a probably so I'll start with myself okay the meetings and workshops are listed Bel under 9.1 lot of coming uped through April 14 so having said that I need a motion to did you get the date it's the 24th I went back and watch the video so is it a Friday then or is it a Tuesday oh it's a Monday that's problem yeah 9.5 sorry okay and the 24th is correct the 24th is correct but is a Monday make second favor say
