##VIDEO ID:DgYepVaMxEg## so uh moving on to the uh agenda I think we can go to the curriculum and instruction agenda thank you curriculum instruction items are for Action this evening we're asking the board to approve item a travel as listed item B1 through two as listed item two is on page 20 of2 that concludes curriculum instruction thank you can I have a motion in a second to accept this agenda motion second is there any discussion we only have the one meeting okay seeing none we will move on to Student Services student services again action items this evening we are making recommendations to the board to approve items one and two just to point out to the board item number one student services this is a revision the original cost that was listed when it was first on an agenda in June was hired the particular student didn't attend the esy program so there's a change in terms of cost where it's less for the district because the student didn't participate in that particular program so that concludes student services thank you and can I have a motion a second to accept the student services agenda motion second is there any discussion on this agenda um just one thing I was wondering if you could just discuss a little bit for the community what the Rise program is because that's a great program that you know are operating so for Bo The Rise program is on page two of 200 student services um so this particular program um where we have students high school students who have IEPs and are recommended by their case manager to participate in this program we also have high school students who can volunteer with the program it gives them an opportunity to to practice um life skills and independent skills so when they're ready to move from high school into the community that they have they acquire this particular skill set so we have a partnership that that gives us that opportunity um just you mentioned it really in passing I just wanted to double check that so you're saying also that high school students can volunteer for that program uh there there is an opportunity um it's not as um well known perhaps as some of the other volunteer opportunties we've had but yes that's fantastic um yes I don't know um the rise and then we have our own reach is it the same kind of it's different two different programs yes okay so so the reach um do you mind just explaining a little bit so the reach so reaches uh our district program housed in a house off campus for our students who are 18 to 21 year old so they're our residents they're our M and aine students who have matriculated on to that particular program where they spend part of their day um learning uh some academic skills connected to life skills and then they're out in the community they actually spend most of their time out in the community um working within our local businesses and learning how to be part of the community but working through um hand on employment skills thank you you're welcome um M Martinez also to add that it could be an age de so it could be reaches 18 to 21 whereas the students who participate in Rise can be younger than thank Scott has a question I just had a question about the Kingsburg School District student is there anything that you could explain as to why we are sending the student to kingburg and what services they're getting there that they couldn't get here and then of course the backup question is what is the possibility of us being able to provide that here to the extent we can um we cannot discuss that in public it's a confidential information so that'll be discussed in exact just so people know um I have a question connected to the um our reach program actually um um how much prep are we doing for our kids um going out to the community practicing job skills any sort of Community Based instruction for our MD and autism population um while they're in middle school I you know I know Lloyd has the the cafe that's starting but how much are we really prepping them for as they [Music] grow so similar to what we heard from the student report on Lloyd RADS and middle school does similar types of things as well so they have converted classroom space into working living space kitchen simulative bedrooms things like that where students learn some of the same home skills life skills and then they also taught the transitional skills preing them for high school in terms of the academic piece the social piece um so from Lloyd Road to the Middle School we're seeing a lot of similar programs that sets them up for when they're ready to transition to the high school so that curriculum really runs through Elementary up okay any other questions about student services okay moving on to the Personnel agenda thank you the board has a walk-in page actually two pages uh for personnel that we are asking for action for the board to take action oh um have a motion in a second to accept the personal oh do you want to review it that might be helpful before I just go I'm sorry I'm moving kind of slow so yeah yeah it's all good so uh we have uh leave of absences listed and one um as listed uh we have staff array changes in uh section two as listed which is an amendment uh of the staff uh ending sooner uh so someone coming back earlier uh we also have other items three and four as listed that ends the walk-in items and now for our Personnel agenda which we are asking the board to take action on tonight we have a& we have retirements we have four retirements listed uh we are thankful for the service of these employees and they will be later recognized uh in the spring uh for their dedication to the district uh we have in Item B we have leaves of absence and all of these leaves of absences so that everyone knows are in accordance and alignment with our uh collective bargaining agreement um so all that you see there with and without pay are rightfully listed we have an item C appointments we have new hires C1 through 8 we have in section two extracurricular activities as listed which are athletic and then non a atic postings of coaches and advisers on page four of a we have instructional assistance as substitute teachers uh these instructional assistants are able to serve as substitute teachers when teachers are absent we have item four before and after school for Lloyd Road and then we have item five home instruction as listed page six of 8 we go from home instruction to staff array changes as listed uh which L some overloads used to help to support and cover classes of teachers who may be on leave Personnel page seven of eight we have college student observers as listed and we have volunteers as listed in item a uh and d and others 1 through n we have our hi uh of one incident reported none confirmed and then we has listed uh two three and four uh new teacher meeting High School assistant coaching and that was a correction from our last agenda uh so that $750 increase is part of the agreement the collective bargaining agreement uh and it is listed correctly for those assistant coaches uh then we have additional compensation for training um and registar outside of hours and then 5 through 9 we have job description moving compensation and a job abandonment mentoring of students in most program and then we have a handle of care that ends the Personnel portion of the agenda thank you um can I have a motion in a second to accept the Personal Agenda including the walk-in items is there any discussion on the Personnel agenda Miss pal I just wanted to say also um congratulations to all their retirees um it's amazing all of those guys have like over 20 years plus so um it it's hard when you see our our older retirement leaving it's it's tough um but amazing and thank you to all them I was forward to giving them you know their Awards agreed yes thank you any other uh questions or comments on the personel agenda seeing none we'll move to the policy agenda thank you on the policy agenda we are asking the board to take action on our second read for approval and adoptions our uh and item number two which is a first read we are not t asking the board to take action on that item tonight uh so item one with the policy and regulations is listed uh we are asking the board to take action that ends the policy section of the agenda can I have a motion and make second to accept the policy agenda um can we split up the conversation um first are there any questions or comments on the policies that are up for second read and adoption nobody wants to know about the secret societies still a mystery yeah we made a joke about it last time um okay so then moving on to the first read um uh first maybe we could have a quick commentary from the chair of the policy committee Martinez yes thank you um so we had a meeting with the um executive Boards of all the schools um which was great because we were able to get everybody together and let them um voice their concerns our concerns we had a good talk um some were not in attendance so that was good because they then emailed me um questions and concerns or just ideas about the policy so the policy is up for the first read we did um Miss pres did send the PTO um executive boards the draft policy so they kind of got some time to see it could send some questions um ideas concerns which we all took into account so we have from now until the next meeting we're going to meet again as a policy committee go over everything there was there was some common questions asked in every email um and those I can share later after uh public comment um but other than that a lot of them are ideas some great um comments things we don't think about we you know this group well at least two of the four of our policy committee have been out of the pto's for years so it was much it was very helpful um so I guess um if we if we can after public comment if those questions aren't asked then I will answer those few that were uh common to everybody and then um we can go from there and then by the next second read we will have met again and gone over uh everything that people have commented and Reed or gave us ideas on so that's it for now that's okay good tonight that's a procedural question so I know um it was mentioned it's not up for Action tonight the first read so when is the first read up is the first and second read is up for Action because then we have to approve for for yeah they said it wasn't so that's why I want to make sure okay so it is separate action at the first read yes as far as so the introduction Okay so we've got the second read for the top four top part first read for the the second one so just so community members know the first read is to just essentially um put it out there that the board will review it the second read is really when um uh the Comm sorry uh it's the parent organization policy is that for oh so after after do first read then it goes it gets posted publicly so that the PTO presidents happened to see it ahead because we're trying to work with the people that are affected by it the most um but then everybody will be able to see it after the first read that's when it gets introduced sorry I wasn't clear with that oh yes absolutely anytime anytime yeah yeah oh yeah and you can do it during public comment absolutely if you if you're anybody I'm sorry yeah but when when it comes time for public comment um those who are coming from I mean from the public can certainly speak including those from PTO if they want to speak now they we're also um open to to emails if that's easier or both um all of that but let's wa we still have a little bit more agenda and then we'll do public comment and so then the community before a second read happens at our meeting in December um uh Mr RS will post it it'll be posted on the district website so the full community gets to see that so that before the meeting they can review it come to the meeting so it's not you know just so the community has the chance to review it give their input and then that's when we would would vote but more than likely the policy will change from first to second read based on the feedback yes and we wanted to do that so that um we could get it in before the new year we wanted of course to um involve the community um the stakeholders people who are doing this every day so we needed their input as well we didn't want to just put a policy out without asking getting people involved um and so yes between this month next month we will have time to meet again go over all the little details um I have all the emails of the ladies that sent me emails I I you know categorized all the questions the comments so we'll um do all that as a committee before next meeting and for what with I mean we all many many of us started out how we got involved in the community was through PTO so is there anybody I know that we'll still be discussing this more but does anybody have any questions or comments on the um from the board on the policy as it was presented for first read at this point one I do but it actually corresponds to one of the questions that's going to be brought up so I don't know if I should mention it hour or just wait um so in terms of the um the the B accounts and and the names on it I do I do think it should be president and treasur in terms thank you um I think a number of us are are feeling that that makes the most sense so um so that was one thing just in generally Li it um yeah if you notice on the policy I wrote president vice president and or treasure so you can do whatever you guys would like um if you want to just have the president the BP the president the treasur the BP the treasure however I added those that were in so you guys have that option I think there's only two signatures needed on a bank so also we'll make sure if it wasn't clear that it is clear can I just add that we welcome the input from the community we were looking for it it it's not this wasn't supposed to really be any kind of um like we didn't mean for it to feel like it was being imposed on anyone so that's why we do the process the way we do for all our policies with first and second read um and we also extended a courtesy of having the PTO executive boards be able to see it um really before even the first read so we're we're happy to hear feedback and incorporate you know things into the [Music] policy well for what it's worth I mean I don't want to belor and take up too much time with this but um I I do also just sensitive to because I've been on the other side too as a as a PTO um uh executive board person that um this wasn't like at least my interest in this has not been because I'm concerned that anything bad is happening now actually really my uh my own family we were involved in sports in Oldbridge in addition to here and had some uh some tough stuff happen in Oldbridge last year including their PTA and I it just scared me that I wanted to like my own interest was in making sure that the um that all of our PTO that that everybody's kind of on the same page not that anything bad I again I don't think that anybody that's currently involved in any of these PTO is doing anything wrong but I would never want somebody to accuse anybody in any PTO of doing something wrong and not have that paperwork to back it up to say hey we're fine you know leave leave us be that kind of thing um and it just that that was where I was coming from when we all started talking about this and I I you know I'm just one of nine but that was where where my perspective was um yes M pal 100% it's for protection of the the PTO as well as the the district and there was some new things that came down from the lawyer that I wasn't even I I wasn't even aware of things that have changed since I was in it and the other policy we had was really very basic so we we needed to update it and critique it and and let it fit our district so yes but on the other hand think the intent was ever to overly burden I mean again all of us almost all of us have I I can't speak to every everybody but have done work on that and it's already plenty of work and so they not you know the intent is not the stifle um does anybody else have I don't want to monize the conversations does anybody else have any questions or comments on the policy agenda okay see I'm get one more finest this case good evening we're looking to take action on the following items the board secretary's report for the month of October payroll certification for the month of October receipt and acceptance of the board secretary's report as well as the treasurer's report approval of appropriation transfers and those list on the top of page two we already discussed uh that we're looking to submit the qac report that we all just discuss for the sections approving the 2526 preschool projection enrollment for the state uh seven is some routine travel as listed in the chart and eight and nine we are very thankful for acceptance of the donations from United Way and Trinity Church for coats hoodies socks to help the student body districtwide and fire and evacuation drills for the month of October as well as 11 uh we had some bus evacuation drills and that completes my thank you can I have a motion in a second to accept the Finance agenda are there any questions or comments on the finance agenda okay seeing none uh we will move on to public comments relating to agenda items and anything else that anybody wants to talk about um the Board of Education recognizes the value of public comment on matters of interest to the school Community individuals wishing to speak must State their name and Municipality of residents comments are limited to three minutes duration but an individual may speak a second time after all others who wish to speak on the topic have been heard all statements should be directed to the board president and no participant May address or question board members individually all speakers are requested to express themselves in a civil manner with due respect for the dignity and privacy of others whose legal rights may be affected please note while it is not the board's intention to stifle comment on matters of legitimate concern the public should be aware that if their statements violate the rights of others under the law of death or invasion of privacy they may face personal liability to the injured party if speakers are uncertain of the legal ramifications of their comments the board urges them to seek guidance beforehand from their legal advisor and as I always say I've been on the other side of this quite a bit three minutes goes really fast so um when you have about 30 seconds left I'll just quickly say hey 30 seconds um and that's not meant to just disrupt the flow it's just so that people know that it's time to wrap up and the other thing is when you come up to speak please identify your name and town of residents you don't have to go any more specific than that um so does anybody want to come with to speak come on you skip the correspondence to the board um we did it earlier um pretty early yeah we didn't skip it oh I didn't hear it oh we don't read over all the comments we just accept the the list oh okay perfect yeah um two two comments one on the PTO policy oh Sandra um anymore um there is a statement about um duly elected officers must be bonded um I know I'm bonded for like a cheer team where I like cheer mom and I'm volunteering with students but I have a lot of pause on that um that's not in our bylaws and our bylaws are all registered by like you know like they're registered with the IRS um so our bylaws don't require that is that new um I'm not saying it's like a bad idea but like we can hardly get P members as is everyone's got a lot of ideas of what they want us to do and yet they don't come and do anything um as we can you know it's very very very small pool that's going to make the pool really smaller um so I just you know what I mean it's not like it's a huge cost or anything but it like it's a it's a curdle um and you know that's just something that I just I didn't see that anywhere else so it seemed like that was new and I just I've been through that process and it does take a little bit of time um and I'm just concerned about that I don't know and know I see other PTO from other schools but that was like one of the big things that jumped off then I also wondered too with the PTO policy is did you review our current bylaws and charters before you drafted that cuz I'm happy to give them to you but I would be very I just want to make sure that they're all kind of aligned because like that's a whole process in itself and like some of those Charters like we got handed when we graciously took over um as PTO people we don't know where they came from um I re-registered our PTO because because I was very scared about filing taxes and kind of limitation like you provide the PTO no protection so like I protected like myself as taking over Treasurer like I would like to not go to jail um so I just didn't know if like you looked at our bylaws like if there was a an organizational unit where we have individual like members and stuff like we had to get our own insurance policy so anyway just would like some help there that helpful M pal can we have legal on that please m Danielle would you mind um just helping with that um the bonded Li deals the first the question like being bonded um the pro so I would have to confer I don't know if that's a new legal requirement um but we'll certainly if you want to share your bylaws in shter we'll certainly take a look at it um but we have to comport with the um the mandated provisions and the updates um so so if you know if that is a legal requirement that's what the law is um so you know we'll get back to you on that and Mr Dan can I ask can can I ask also um the bylaws are different from the policy so the the bylaw like just curious the bylaws are for for the PTO the the policy is the districts those are just two different entities correct that is correct okay um so does one coincide with the other or they don't have to or they no we don't we don't have to adopt what is in their bylaws we could look at it for informational purposes for suran okay perfect and is there different bylaws for each okay thank you so do we have the I asked for them and I have not received no I don't [Applause] okay well we we okay we'll work on we'll work on it thank you it's okay we'll work on it and I mean for what it's worth if I mean not to get into too much of a back and forth but if if we need more time we can take more time this isn't like you know a bomb's going to explode at the end of you know December or something like that so what are we oh I'm sorry can you do your name Francisco gligo m one yes okay okay so why don't you just compromise and say that the person who has to get bonded is the person who handle the money because that's really what it is right you getting bonded because I got bonded for work because I handle money so right so if you're just going to limit the number of people who have access to the money then just say you know the requirement is that you have to get bonded Jennifer Cory Matan um so I know I had actually sent a couple emails prior and I do not see them shown as correspondents sent on the list in the agenda that was sent so I just want to make sure that it was okay yeah for what it's worth I just so people know in general there is like a line but like this has to be produced and posted on the website and so if there's been at any time if there's been correspondence after that that others were sent um there was definitely one that night after the first meeting we had okay so was I mean well okay not to get too much of back and forth but um there may have been a discrepancy if it wasn't to like all of the Bo um we would to me then they wouldn't have gone on here it would have to go to leadership admin and and then the board the second one was I have both of them anyway that's fine yeah um my first question is one of the first lines in the policy specifically says parent organizations are independent from the Board of Education and not controlled or run by the district but then it's followed by a whole bunch of policies to follow so I'm just not quite sure which way we're going like are we supposed to be controlled or not and my other concern well there a bunch of concerns but another one is this is just done to the PTO what about all the other parent clubs in the schools and I'm not trying to throw them under the bus but if we have to start jumping through hoops I don't understand why other clubs and other parent organizations are not and I can tell you that the other parent organizations are not happy because they're hearing about this as well because they don't understand why basically something has to change that's not broken and I understand you brought up about the Oldbridge being the PTO issue but it was also somebody who was on the board of vet so I look at it and I say now you guys are trying to like get access to see my financial thing because I'm the treasurer why why do you guys have to see what I I have no problem telling you what's there because I'm not hiding anything but that really should be for the PTO board and the PTO members who pay their dues that's just my take on it and and I I don't understand the whole why we have to be a 501c3 because we're a PTO we're not a PTA and I can't I just kind of can't get any answers back on that because it doesn't make sense and I understand that there people people say like oh you'll get better donations I'm not concerned about the donations we get that that should be like an hour issue and kind of like you can turn around and say well you guys can get better donations with it but it's in a CL and time okay taking those that's fine um speaking to just I mean most of this we we have to continue to work out with the um but the uh uh question about I mean does as far as I know yes so does this policy also apply to parent clubs like the football boosters and things that sort no because the PTO um to your question you know we're not look the board is not looking to run it micromanage it but uh the PTO does have some access to Administration facilities they you know more privileges than the other clubs and organizations do so the interest is they just want to make sure that everything's being run you know phally responsible but when you say other clubs what about like I'm just thinking like the touchdown Club the other sports club they all have access to the the different facilities as well I think it's more the administration I think it's the the relationship between the PTO and the administration and Facilities I actually feel like that's penalizing the PTO because we're having a relationship with the principle no I I I understand your comment I'm being very serious I don't understand understand your comment duly noted yeah and I'm not trying to come across a snarky what I truthfully don't understand where the line is drawn Miss pal can I can I comment real fast um so when I had spoke earlier to Legal about that um and we will we will take all of these notes and and get some answers with legal stuff but I do know that when you use the school name with PTO so whether it be man's PTO high school PTO stator PTO there has to be some criteria involved when you use the school's name because then if God forbid something was not right or something went wrong somewhere the school you're you're using the name now if if the parents went off and did their own organization not having any affiliation with the name of the schools okay that would be probably a different story but you guys worked under our school name so I know that there's a link there and I'm not going to talk to that because I I'm not a lawyer but I know that that was part of it if that makes sense so is it just a name so basically if we changed our name from M want high school PTO to husky PTO then all of a sudden now we don't answer to anybody well I think all right we probably need to work this out like I mean we the policy committee could continue to meet with the PTO leaders ERS ship and and get this figured out rather than having it back and forth during the meeting but yeah let's talk more right but but thank you for your comment yeah definitely um one more thing are you guys able to explain the 501 sa can you Lindsay can you like what that is versus tax exempt 501c3 is an organization tax exempt is if an organization qualifies to be tax 501c3 uh there's reason why typically it's charitable religious or educational so when you're 5013 if you have a comment you can come up after all the comments for your second are there any other comments for the first round of comments and then you can come back does anyone else want to speak because I'm going three minutes so I'll go last I waited two hours [Music] so uh you had mentioned um the Cambridge traffic CL I don't know where you guys but they my daughter has me an i and um we're not allowed to park in the empty three empty parsing Lots anymore now so I have to walk like four or five blocks it took me 20 minutes to walk her to the schol then that was after the 20 minutes of scream to get her out the part um finally got her out 20 minutes to walk her to the school um I have through my neck um I'm not really supposed to be walking like that not in snow um and I have probably at least a doz maybe two doz other Ms that are like i r with this if you all have I and they're not the that whole anxiety even driving to the school when it was 2 minutes wait in the line was already enough of screaming let them now the 20 minutes getting out of car and then the 20 minutes walking to the school is maddening um their solution was to do it's it's almost like a bully campaign to do the K and go we're going to make it impossible for you to park and if you can't park you're going to have to do the kid and go and we have to switch our car seat from to behind the driver which is insane I'm a single mom my daughter's not going to sit behind where I can't see her um it's also the most dangerous part spot your child in the car I'm not doing that so that the teachers or whoever is getting my Builder out of the car are not inent plus she's going to G their eyes so she does not deal every day I don't know where the from medicine better it had not people are coming down the one way the wrong way every day all day no one knows the plan the the F were there for the first day um they kind of wav their hands a bit that was it better complaining of the people that bought home next to a school that's been there for at least 20 years that I know of um I wouldn't be complaining if I brought to home to the train station so the conductor not be the one that's just I pay taxes to in this town I have a school this sign off I don't complain about it like it is what it is the extra two minutes that they fit in line is it really I just don't I think it's I think it's magad and it's the only people that are paying for it are the so my daughter is paying for it get a freak out about walking to the door I mean it's literally 20 minutes of me dragging her to the car PR it's I just don't know if there's anything to make it work CU it's not helping the parents or the St at all it's only helping the people that and so thank you for um thank you for sharing the comments because obviously I hear the positive when you know and this is how this works when there's a change unfortunately but if you can email me and um so that we can commit in terms of there's other parents that one of other parents I'm actually I wasn't being rud I was just like telling them listen he said it was went great they like what going crazy if you could email me because we know that any change there's going to be positives and there's other you know other concerns that we may we may need to consider and address 15 minutes later now too they're need the one it's just there's mty l in the morning and we're not allowed to pH start [Music] so all right thank you very much if I can I'll it's n Perez Perez and thank you so much thank you I app I appreciate that thank you hi everyone um I'm GNA ask a question probably where have the answer yeah yeah Cindy um santor and then aine so I have a quick question um kind of like uh an idea of how actual Board of Education Works I sted the strategic planning um I'm very interested in like we use a lot of words like mandated by the state and um I'm just wondering like say something comes down Federal like the Federal Department of Education and it directly is opposite something that is mandated by New Y New Jersey state of education and then what do you guys do like do you follow the Federal or do you follow the jersey or how does that actually work like does Federal Trump State I mean that's how it normally works right do you want to speak to that um I'm a centor and then Daniel answer um are you you're referring to qac right when we were going over the CH talking about the qac and you were talking about some of the things like some of the strategic planning but we know that there's been a change and you know January there's going to be okay so strategic planning is not mandated okay but like some of the things maybe I know you're talking about some of the things that might have change might be changing correct but so most of the strategic planning are not that those goals and objectives were not due to mandates they were based on community input needs and kids and families and CommunityWide and however though you're raising a question that may correlate more to qac because the qac what they were sharing in terms of the Committees but that is a mandate those are all mandates and then I'll I'll share that which Mak you yeah I'm not really familiar with you know the the specifics of the federal trumping the state and whatnot so you know it's it's something that I would have to look into if you have a specific question you can email now okay so just wait until the stuff kind of rolls down and come back and ask you guys in January I think got it thank you thank you um hi I'm Abby ber I live in madaan um so I was watching what you guys had on your sheet I love that I'm like the queen of spart sheets I love them that makes it really easy I saw that you had a section that said like college readiness well there's two sections I had a question on there like life skills Readiness which you talked about but then you said like college readiness SL vocational Readiness and my concern with that is the same concern I bring up constantly is that our district has zero planning for kids who want to be in a vocational setting that do not not get into the overburdened vocational programs in our district okay so while it's great I mean I will tell you that there's a couple of kids that I talk to cuz my sons are in the high school they're in vocational programming that the kids were like oh wow we could have done that we didn't realize it's like a 20 minute like assembly like hey votek is cool come learn about it right it's not like something that's taught and I just feel like we need as a community especially since we want to reach out to the community we have plenty of community MERS that have shops and stores and uh trades in the town that I really feel like it's really important when you're doing your strategic planning to create and I know it's not easy and it's expensive and we're strapped but what do we do with the kids who don't want to go to college who want to have a trade who don't get into into votch like what are we going to do with those kids I have a child who's in votch now and I have a kid who's a career center and it will be a nightmare for everybody if he doesn't get into BC it'll be a nightmare because he is not College Bound he wants to do hbac to the point where like if he's like if I don't get in mom I'll just drop out get my GED and go to like a Vocational High College like at 16 because it's like not useful so that was my one thing I just think that we need to think about and come up with a plan I'd be more than willing to like look into things and help out the other thing I wanted to mention oh you guys talked about the um social justice day that's an excuse day so I was planning on using that and when I told the middle school they were like what is that so maybe if someone could like share how we get that as a day off um only because I plan on using that in the next week so and then the third thing I wanted to say is when they were talking about all of the awesome things that are going to school they did not mention that our marching band and our Color Guard are now State and national champions and so my kids on one of the team so I just wanted to say that I think that is really cool and to let people know that if they don't know that your seventh and eighth graders are eligible to be on your marching band and on the color and Winter Guard and right now we only have one middle school kid on the guard that's my daughter and I think that it would be really great to let the schools know that this is a really cool program the coaches are phenomenal um and their banket was tonight and it was really they they do a great job so yeah votek the other thing the Strate the what is it called the Strategic plan not the Strategic plan the um social justice whatever that is like so we can get more clarification on Civic EV Civic events okay so yeah so something like that they had no the middle school had no idea I was talking to the guidance councel say she's like I don't even know what you're talking about like where did you find that I'm like oh I go to meetings so just something like that thank you thank you m b for I apologize for not um mentioning the band about yes and um however we will be um recognized in them at the December meeting Casey Burl of Farmingdale uh I just want to share some good news that uh and I shared this last year the MTH County Education Association through a uh public education partnership Grant through the njaa was able to donate 18 coats to the school district for students in need um we asked the school nurses if they could identify some students and some schools had more than the others so just wanted to share that good news thank you so much thank [Applause] you Jennifer Lorie from um amerine all right I'm going to talk about this pko policy um I have a concern about um the board members being on the board for two years as your policy is written to be written um it is impossible to get somebody to join a PTO impossible I've been on the boards different boards for 15 years this year 15 years and you don't get people to volunteer I I searched high and low before I left M's last year to make sure they had a full board because I didn't want to leave them empty-handed so just in that saying I think if anything your policy might benefit if you say the board can be in the school for a matter of how many years your kid is there I was in M's N9 years straight I had three kids so I was able to be vice president president um Ways and Means uh so many different options and you know it just and then within two years being on the board now you're talking about our tax exempts our 5013 C's those names will have to change every two years so that's a lot of paperwork and nobody's going to want to sign up for that so if something can be changed and that I mean Lloyd's lucky they're two years you know um ma'am's it's really only the most is the high school and the grammar school and you know those are the longest schools I mean if your board plans on doing two years the high school PTO is done we're done because we're already here two years and we couldn't even do anything cuz the first year we had no funds this year we're trying so um that's a that's a big point that you know maybe you guys could consider um then the other is um this policy it's first read today right um second read December it right when is it when will it and when will it go into effect um as far as I I mean after second read then I mean if it was approved at the second read then I believe it goes into effect immediately but perhaps um the Miss pant can correct me if I'm wrong well that's what you said if you if you decide to approve it you know then I will um but you could always table it you have to adopt it at the second reading but thank you for your comments that's a good point yeah sometimes there's many reads on if something be perfected and then on behalf of booster clubs now I'm part of the Husky touchdown Club as secretary there also um in our bylaws we it states that we are not affiliated with the school we are considered husky you know we we do talk to Administration we do talk to um we use your facilities um I think um if you are pointing this towards the PTO I think that um you should change the policy name that you have on there um because it says clubs on there um if they're not associate or anything I mean there's a possibility from some of these PTO to change their name so we don't have to be affiliated so that's a that's something you might consider um for all of us being 5013 C's um we will not no longer be able to donate money to the Board of Education if we're a 5013 s so we can't hand monies over to the board if that's the case so that's something you guys might want to consider too um especially when um you know I know that M's we bought the sign up front we paid half the board paid half if that's the case we will no longer be able to give that half of money to the board to be able to break that checkout so that's something you need to consider thank you thank you m sorry okay yeah quickly I just wanted to um see if I can ask you a question uh Lindsay is that the case with 501c3 versus tax exempt that donations can't come from a 501c3 I just want to know for sure it would it would depend upon how the charter was written okay um and just really briefly to the point about um not so as far as the years that can be switched around I mean you could switch exact positions I will say that as a former PTO member um the policy committee took into consideration a lot of the bylaws that we operated under when we were on pto's Miss Martinez and I were at clip with PTO many many years years ago it was really considered the gold standard our BAS our book that we had that we passed on you know from board EXA board to exec board was pretty stringent we had to follow we had board members bonded um all that so that's a little bit of where it came from um I think through covid and some of the other you know just normal passage of time things might have been um let go a little bit um I don't I don't know for sure I'm just saying that's some of the feedback that we got and just to put up um a little bit of a point on volunteers um we actually I specifically heard from the community that volunteers were turned away um and I know that that was brought up at the meeting that we had with the um the board and the committee and admin um somebody from cpeg also mentioned that so you know I think part of this was also to make people feel more included um give other people chance I mean I understand it's a lot of work it's done completely on a volunteer basis we totally appreciate it we know that the schools really rely on it um we we appreciate every dollar raised but just I'm saying personally that I did hear that people were turned away that's that's all I'm saying I also wanted to make sure I added in that years ago I started by unknown profit and when I did that we needed to work under the offices of another organization because it was so expensive to become a 501c3 and we could would considerate consistently need to consult with lawyers whose rates were unbelievably high so I think we have to Circle back and look at what is the purpose of these organizations and how do we support them in a way that they can do what they need to do and be inclusive because if a 501c3 is mandated so much of their money and energy is going to go to keeping that 501c3 and establishing it in the first place that's going to go against I mean look at the fundraises they're doing and the amount of money they're raising and the difference they can do with that money instead of it going to a legal firm to take care of a 50163 yeah I think agreed and and that um we just need to figure out how to affect the same kind of protection without I mean because fundraisers bring in a lot of money and and we don't nobody here I think wants nobody here wants to see the IRS sudden be suddenly be like hey actually you're a business like that would be really bad so we just need to figure out exactly I mean how to make sure that doesn't happen so if it if it's just through you know State registration as a charity whatever it is I mean somehow we need to get that that through and so this was a a first draft and so let let's focus and make sure that we have what we want before we pass it um yes how you doing today um Brett Canon 194 Jackson Street one um so a couple things one you're right about the PTO because I call here at various capacities uh not only a 36 year lifelong resident of M one graduate of lyd Road M one Avenue and M one Regional High School but also a current assistant principal at Urton high school and you are correct on fral involvement and parents want to be involved it's in near impossible in today's economy where two parents are working jobs when you parents will volunteer to do anything it's a win so two sh to that Abby uh couple programs we run at everything high school because what I've learned tonight is uh watching some of these presentations is I didn't realize how far ahead our Title One districts in the state are than our non-title one districts are uh so I can give you some ideas we have at every high school maybe M can bring in jrc program offers an alternative route to our military uh you know uh graduates to enter the military with rank uh we have a fiber optics program run by ramp off America that now only pays Scholars and our seniors but offers them an internship paid internship during their senior year and a job placement upon graduation um we also have um a cosmetology program in which students who complete the three-year cosmology program uh graduate with their license and can go immediately work in a barber shop a hair salon a nail salon Etc their license with the state so there are various options because I was part of that Millennial crew that we were told you have to go to college have to go to college have to go to college and a lot of my peers were left fine so I just oh you were focusing back here well just got you so um first let me start with some congratulations Jack congratulations on your re election Katie congratulations on your election uh Miss P I don't know you but I want to give you Kudos because uh I follow you on Facebook uh you are very communicative uh and it's no doubt in my mind that's why you receive the most votes uh and from someone who used to be mouth pce of the M Council and started restore M which a lot of people are are uh you know running under that title I The Blood Sweat and Tears to get that built up with the mayor and I took a lot of heat right uh but it's also why I was top better in my elections so I have no doubt that's why you succeeded uh I think you're doing a great job agree or disagree whatever I think uh uh your approach is the correct approach uh communicate and be transparent and keep Community informed I have no doubt that's why you killed in the election so congratulations to you during your reelection um these questions are really for your your District administration less than the board members uh I'll Circle back to the board members this really FS cuz I again I started as counselman two terms uh my grandfather was a counselman my brother was a counselman my father was a counselman uh I understand that side very well uh and I understand you all have full-time day jobs like I do right and you trust your District administration to run the district uh and I'm going to be honest with you I'm I love politics because I hate politics I think both sides are nuts okay clear as thing uh I told Katie's husband here's the torch go run enjoy um I am I am now debating coming to run for the board bed because this past year I waited I said again I work in school I 10 years in a middle school two two years since principal in high school to the principal of rine Drive Elementary God bless you because I can never do elementary so you're doing a great job here but I say that to say I understand how this all works you guys go to your job and trust your District administration I'm very reasonable I work in schools for 12 years okay I let it go in the spring so let him get to the end of the year end of the summer comes I said you know what they should have got it done over the summer but maybe they were parents I now let an entire marking period go by and Veterans Day on Monday is when I hit my rock bottom with the Board of Education $12.99 on Amazon bought me an American flag I cannot drive by your board of education on Route 34 another day with an empty flag B both my grandfathers are veterans my dad's my dad's dad had his leg blown off okay my other grandpa uh served in the Pacific I swor on the Constitution twice I taught Civics for 10 years I started on the counsil I'm a big believer regardless of your political beliefs regardless of whatever it is you are a government entity that collects 60% of my tax dollars the least you can do is hang an American flag outside your $5 million Board office on Route 34 the busiest Road in town so I'm donating this tonight $1299 from Amazon to the board of education of M on top of the 60% of tax doll already paid to you to hang this I'll go hang it myself tonight if I have permission but please someone take this and hang this and I'll hand it to you before I leave thank you Mr Canon you're over your three minutes I waited 2 hours and 15 minutes is there anyone else that need to speak tonight because I have a First Amendment right to pre a speech I pay over $10,000 a year in property taxes I would like to finish this is not going to be a 45-minute speech but I would like to finish um to those who want to speak again is this okay with you I mean just okay go for it sir secondly back to that $5 million building I understand Municipal budgets I understand School budgets there's a bid threshold $5 million obviously far exceeds that bid threshold tell me how a sign that identifies your board of education a year into business again I didn't come up here in the spring I didn't come up here in the summer I didn't come up here in the I'm now coming up here almost the beginning of winter after almost a year of operating there is no sign identifying your board of education on Route 34 right next to your empty flag Bo now if it wasn't included in the bid spec I don't see why it wouldn't be that could have been accomplished with competing quotes because an electronic sign outside your board of education would probably be under the bid threshold in which all you would need is some competing quotes and go file a purchase order and put a sign off from and I'm sure there's going to be some political answer up here or government answer or or professional answer but the reality is it's been a year and it's unacceptable put a sign outside of your board of education when you collect 60% of the tax dollars in the [Music] St do you do you want us to speak to that one pleas okay Miss case can you answer what happened with the sign because I think there's something happened with it uh we have a sign purchased it's waiting in a warehouse to be installed we had to hire legal to assist us with the sign variance with aine so your hold up is the sign is a variance with a the warehouse or the variance with aity because if it's a variance with ay his wife's on Counsel my brother's on counsel we can help you out with that we've been working with Administration so that they will approve the sign variance at there when was the application submitted I don't have the exact date but it's been at least 6 months it's been at least 6 months because again you could you could there's various approaches my point is if I would to came up here in March and that would that would be legi right I'm up here in November almost a year later come on come on I mean thank you I mean I appreciate I'm not being unreasonable here I've been hearing about that variance for at least maybe four board meetings now so at least no I was say it's been about I've been since early spring yeah so we we all know about the variants hold up just say okay gotcha um yeah the public uh again this may seem like I'm being petty uh it's usually indicative of of bigger overall it's kind of like feeling back in onion right I come here tonight two of your urals and your six and your bathroom have garbage bags over them you have the same Asus tiles I rolled around in summer camp in here in 1990 like you know I'm really not trying to be typic but I'm like hitting a point where like I waited a full year before I come up here I'm like oh look I sign up give him the end of the year give him the summer give him the fall here we are so um no problem I'll call Fred tiger tonight hey Fred you might need to move this along no problem but if it comes down to a bid step or it comes down to a irresponsible bidder you have abilities in New Jersey you buy past irresponsible biders you n to the lowest bidder whatever the reason is but I'm sorry after a year there's got to be some owners of ownership and say hey you know what maybe we dropped the ball on us and Miss P I appreciate you probably the only person up here taking account say hey probably a little it shouldn't be a longer within the 6 months so uh I appreciate your time um this is reminiscent of uh what got me to run for m one Town Council when we had no signs indicating the entry points M one and we got those four signs put up two on 34 and two on Main Street within two months of my election to to M Town Council so it's not impossible it just takes some time and effort especially when we have half a million dollars in Sal sitting up here who go to work every day and they're going to pull up that same building tomorrow and I'm going to leave the flag here and maybe one of them will take it and go hanging on the flag call outside our government institution that collects 60% of tax dollars from our res thank you thank you very much and before we move on I just want to say for one thank you very much for your gift um as far as I know um we would hang it up tomorrow because it's night time and there's not a light on that flag pole um and also that as far as I know the um we'll get the exact date but really um as far the um the sign I believe has to do the issue with the variants is the distance from the um uh property line and uh any informal assistance that can be given to to get that variance moved along we as far as I know the uh the district would be very interested in having that building identified there's there's not really a practical reason not to at this point um so thank you very much I got you thank you hi Abby Berg again and I just wanted to say as I listen to lots of things today I have zero confidence that the aberin council is willing to positively work with the most of the members of our Board of Education as members of the city council and aine tend to go online and at their meetings which I have been to talk disparagingly um about people in our Board of Ed and it is no surprise to me that the one variance that doesn't get pasted in this town is the one for the sign so I don't want the public to think that you know it's a dragging of the legs on the board of education because I go to both meetings um and I don't even live in aine anymore so and as for things with the PTO I will say as somebody who had volunteered a few [Music] times it is a difficult group of women to infiltrate sometimes if you're not part of the crowd it is difficult to be part of the group I was volunteered once at Strathmore when my now 17 almost 17-year-old was in like think kindergarten or first grade I was put into a position on the board I was very excited to be removed without being told um and I try to volunteer it's not always easy I'm not saying that it's different now maybe it's better now maybe it's not worse but after a couple of attempts to get my foot in to the click as I'd like to say it was really difficult so I don't really know about the policy I don't get involved in the PTO I pay my money I'm the money person don't ask me to come in but tell me how much you need so I just wanted to put that out there CU there are you know other I think reasons why we may need to you know do what we do thank you I don't think than you for [Music] comments M I was actually going to come up before but now I feel I have to come up here so I just want to say one I have nothing to do with st more so I apologize from stra for people if that happen to you but but I just want to say because it's on the minutes to sit here as a PTO Executive Board member that I have been on since my son was started in his school and he graduated high school in 2023 to sit here and listen many times about people in the community coming up and not being told that we turn people away is infuriating it's it actually makes me sick to my stomach and it makes me wonder why do I continuously do this like so so like your policy about saying oh well we're going to shift the positions every 2 years that's not going to help anybody if they actually feel that way that is ridiculous if people have an actual issue with me and I'm going to say it or the high school come talk to us like we tell our kids to be grown-ups talk to people don't sit there and start talking about everybody else behind their back I'm so angry right now like it's such a blanket statement yes it's such a blanket statement to sit there and say that people are turned away yes I I am sure there have been times that people have come to PTO meetings and said hey I can do this hey I can do that if people are told we don't need your help with that that's not a we don't need your help that's a we have it covered right now so there's no reason for extra help with that situation we to sit there and say that I think people need to grow up and get a thicker skin or grow up and actually talk to the people that they're having problems with that's exactly when it comes down have to because to sit here to be an executive board to be told that I need to do this to be told that we need to do that and then to sit here and listen to that people don't want to actually come to help because we turn them away I have never in one time and I've been on Ravine I was on Cliffwood I was on Lloyd I was on Ms and I'm on high school I have not one time ever turned anybody away and I wouldn't because I need help we need help we try to do stuff to raise money for the kids to raise money for the teachers because all we hear about is how the teachers are thrilled that the high school actually has a PTO board now we need help why would I turn somebody away if they're willing to help because guess what it's usually Jen and I who are texting and doing all of the work you guys want to help you know somebody wants to help send them our way we have a PTO meeting on Monday you guys are hearing people from the community say they want to they want to help send them to our board I will put them to [Music] work here but um a friend of mine sent a communication but somebody about something about basic skills and instruction Sandra Figo m one sorry um is there a plan to bring back basic skills instruction BSI into the curriculum I know that was something that didn't happen I think there's a concern that some kids are falling behind I just didn't know if anybody had that and then secondly like um back to PTO Community um we did a a painting night and I see Cambridge is doing like a parent night out um we are seeing those things as like ways to bring more people into the community um we missed you Katie you got to come next time um we are trying to you know get more people to to come and like make friends and like you know kind of just distribute at all so I don't know if that's something we got like the Crea a chicken lady Judy to come and do Paint and Sip it was fun it was up Fir housee and drink that's great but anyway we're trying like if anybody if somebody says to you though that like they were turned away I would also say that's crazy we're like whatever you want you want a position we don't have a president right now so you know if anybody wants to be president of V Drive you're you're welcome to it but thank you all joking aside thank you very much just go goo um 91 so yeah we have actually turned away people and I'll tell you why because some people come and they say oh I would like you guys to do a uh a fake sale or I want you to do this and I do that and we were like oh that's great that's a great idea are you going to take on that oh no no that's for you to do and I'm thinking oh so you must think I'm like a higher person you I'm like a salary like Po like full-time person so yeah like I think that yeah people do get turned away because you come in and you just drop your great idea and then you just walk away we're not looking for that what we're looking for is people who actually come in and want to do and take on things to do and so my wife actually set up this uh SI and painting thing with a bunch of people that sign up for it and what I told her was this is a great way of recruiting people like at work we do this we go out and recruit people like we go to colleges we have mixers and we bring people on board and so this is what you guys need to do like you just need to like engage people and bringing them on and yeah some people feel like they're left out yeah of course they feel left out because you don't give them the opportunity to come in and engage with everybody and meet you and and talk to you and and you know and be part of the community so yeah we do turn people away because you come in and just drop your idea and just walk away we don't need that so we're never going to need that because all of us have like full-time jobs so we're not like professional PTO people we got a whole lot of Volunteers in this room a lot of thanish jobs um but yes thank you it's appreciated um does anybody else wish to speak okay um I think we'll move on to um we'll do on Old business and new business together um I did want to uh mention one thing is um because I was remissed because I missed it earlier was um m m RSD cares something to think about for December we have um the district runs a charity that that assists staff and students students families when something terrible happens frankly and um uh this so so over the last three years they've collected quite a bit of money that um through uh donations and through um times some of the teacher dress down days that that those funds go to MSD cares and um and other just you staff fundraisers and what have you and um uh you know it's been when families at fires or an Unexpected death um things of that sort um along with just families that are in need in the community um so the thing that the MRC cares is running in um in December is a winter wonderland festival for um select District families um that are are facing hardships and um we uh speaking of fundraising and uh and taking donations we have um we could use gifts we could use use time we get use funds and um should we should they just call central office um anybody that wants to donate so I just wanted to mention that out there um I myself will be volunteering the day off um in addition to contributing um so just wanted to bring that out there it's December 17th thank you um and uh and of course the MRC cares will be busy throughout the holiday season um does anybody else have any uh New or Old business they want to bring up Miss pal I just want to um just be clear that we all understand so we will take all the comments um questions concerns thoughts we will go back to the committee we will meet before one or two times before December um and have a policy ready for you guys um I feel I have to be honest I feel very sad because I feel this is contentious we are not looking to do this to you guys we are looking to do this with you guys we're open to any interpretations we're open to changes we're open to thoughts um I for one know that the team wanted to do this with you guys and with with the help of the PTO so we welcome it um and then as far as new business or old business or you know someone's business I have um DeMarcos um I went to school with Eugene the owner of DeMarcos Miss prz and they wanted to um extend whatever donations or what you would like from them to help for the holiday party um if you could let me know and I'll let him know all right thank you any other neural business okay uh we actually need to vote on those agenda items um so uh we'll do roll call on all of the agenda items at once Miss vus yes Miss Martinez yes Mr mcgan yes Mr monton Miss SC yes Miss Bell yes Miss War yes M goie yes yes okay and we do need to have a second executive session um so be it resolved this makes much more sense that a closed session be convened for the purpose of disc discing privacy personel and legal matters the subject matter of these discussions will be disclosed to the public when the reason for confidentiality subsides although the board cannot guarantee if the length of the executive session is estimated to be 30 minutes after which the public meeting of the board shall reconvene and proceed with business action will not take place can I have a motion and a second to go into executive session motion second all in favor okay we are in executive session thank you everybody --------- ##VIDEO ID:5DhPhI2W9X4## um and can be a to uh Bri actually skip a head to oh no the superintendent's report um Mr K's presentation thank you president pel thank you superintendent Perez and our Board of Education members and administration for allowing us to host tonight at ring drive and thank you for our students who are going to be presenting and sharing some of the experiences we have as well as Miss Ary Miss p and Miss viol who put together this presentation also thank you to miss Sol Miss Mory and Miss Murray for joining us so in the past previous few years we've had a concert presentation and concert performance of all of our third graders we're taking an opportunity tonight to focus on what our goals are here rine drive for the A and what we are looking for in our whole entire School community and what we're moving forward with so for our school prek to 3 we're developing and working on strengthening student self-regulation at the same time is developing student content knowledge this is going to come up throughout the presentation but we have a belief that in order to learn students have to be able to regulate their emotions and at the same time while they're regulating emotions they have to be in a welcoming environment so as you know from the staff who are all familiar faces everyone here in the Manan Community they love they love our children they love being here every day we're going to start with a video to show some of the experiences we have an eagle scout who put this together for us he hasn't joined us yet tonight but I'm hoping he can he he wrote A A Brief speech to talk about the experience and then after we go through the video everyone's going to have an opportunity to get up I did it is chilly outside one of the stations is outside so you don't have to go out if you don't want to we're going to be able to see what our students are doing every day here we being dry so thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] new way [Music] [Music] [Music] you all [Music] so what that video video was able to highlight was our Outdoor Classroom and we're not going to spend too much time outside today but what we are made in Department was able to bring in the four outdoor sensory bins that I'm hoping arnov Cody can join us and speak a little bit about the project that he took on and creating these sensory bins for us they have different aspects to help students with regulating their emotions so as we have a building with almost 400 students there's a lot going on for the day from 9:10 when our doors open until 3:45 when the students are dismissed and during that time there's a lot of academic pressures there's a lot that's going on emotionally there's a lot that's going on socially and the development of all of our students is very complex so our teachers have been very interested in developing different opportunities for our students to get a break during the day that if they feel overwhelmed if they're feeling overstimulated how can they take a break and then regulate their emotions that's something we're going to keep talking about and then return to school return to the classroom to be happy productive contributing classmates where then they're strengthening the knowledge base that they're learning on so what I hope you saw in the video where the different sensory bins everyone's going to have a chance to work on the other piece that I hope you saw were was the artwork that Miss P Emma Pato our Music Teacher created it's on display in the hallway that's focusing on everyone being welcom in school because everyone is welcome here and every day we are focused on building an inclusive Set uh situation in inclusive setting where we want everyone to be welcome and we want everyone to thrive so being that Arnav isn't here with us quite yet we're going to skip his speech and then we're going to take 10 minutes for all of our board members if you're interested to partner up and we have our third grade students who are all uh experts at our different sensory bins they're going to lead you through them administrators if you're interested in joining our board members please join a pair parents and friends who are joining us please please jump in if you want to and we'll C way through about 2 minutes per station I will start the timer and everyone will be able to get set so if you can please partner up and our third graders will lead you through uh what we have here at rine Drive Elementary School [Music] um so you can make music by sliding the stick side to side or you can hit it and down here you can and here's the same as here but you can just um I recommend you can do it in three different T like this like this or like this you can slide it but I recommend you doing slowly for [Music] how are [Music] [Music] you all right phenomenal I am so impressed that the board was back before it right as the timer went off great job you Excel the following yes you all deserve a round of applause everyone and thank you again oh as we come up to the front I would like to thank all of our volunteers thank you pres azra thank you Sam Miranda Dian Gio and Jacob Penny Xavier and Jonathan who were both outside thank you all for leading us through this you guys did a phenomenal job and one more round of applause please go [Music] students and please a round of applause for Miss Viola Miss AR and Miss Pete for putting together our video [Music] presentation and everyone as always these are generally outside in our Outdoor Classroom everyone's always more than welcome to join and take part of the sensory bins any time you would like hear Ravine Drive our students you're more than welcome to stay for the whole night but I know it is it's dark and it's cold outside so you want to head out you are more than welcome to thank you all again for making tonight such a great night you got us better than anyone else could thank you [Applause] students and I also heard Arnav is on his way straight from he is taking classes in new bronswick he's a rockers he's a junior rockers University so he will be joining us we probably conclude the presentation with our speech wara so just coming back again to our our goal and our Focus here at Ravine Drive for the year is to in order for students to have an ability to learn to be able to retain the information that our teachers are presenting to them we have to provide and give an opportunity for students to learn how to self-regulate and opportunities to self-regulate throughout the day so the 6 and 1/2 hour day is a very long time for anyone with ages 3 to 8 so during that time we were trying to build in we had the sensory path in the hallway that you saw we also have a sensory path down in the Pod and we have a sensory room it would be able to show just two pictures of to give students different opportunities to regulate as needed throughout the day our preschool curriculum being that we're extremely fortunate to have the preschool funding the preschool is expanding and our district has selected tools of mind the focus and the priority tools in the mind is working through self-regulation throughout the day self-regulation and co-regulation this is the first year Ravine Drive has the opportunity to Pilot the kindergarten program for tools of the mind so tools of the mind is a curricular program they offer preschool it's an extremely popular preschool curriculum is it's one of the state approved preschool curriculums there's only four throughout the state the kindergarten program is not as utilized but it's growing in popularity due to the need for building and self-regulation throughout the day what we're seeing in schools throughout the country is that there's been an increased focus on academics and a decreased focus on students being able to regulate being able to engage in tasks that are developmentally appropriate and due to that students are struggling so we're extremely fortunate we've been granted a scholarship with tools in the mind and part of that scholarship is tools in the mind which is an international organization is creating a documentary on how the pilot is going here in Ravine Dr so this is a a pilot that they were a documentary that I was told from the the director of tools of the mind it's been in the process of making since 2019 they were looking for a school with the needs and demographics that would fit for where they thought that their program would be extremely successful we've only been using it for two years for two months excuse me but we found great success in October Dave Brooke who's a videographer filmographer videographer videographer perfect videographer from tools in the mind came and he spent a day in each of our kindergarten classes we have two one minute clips of the classes our uh three kindergarten classes are Miss lahan Miss Colona and Miss Alvarez and Miss B unfortunately we can't include Miss Alvarez and Miss L's class because uh we did not get a video permission waiver from one of the students in the video but be work through and hopefully we'll be able to share that out later in the year so again the the purpose and the focus of TOS in mind is fostering self-regulation while gaining content knowledge so we will show the two quick [Music] videos I am going to be mommy bear eyes on me and you're going to do open chat them all by yourself you're going to show me okay open them open so the first one is daddy bear who's [Applause] daddy it all now go to the chair my and she's still there so what I hope you were able to notice from that very briefe presentation is that one of the common phrases that we hear with Early Education is language is learning so we're giving students a greater opportunity to speak to each other communicate with each other and discuss what they're seeing there's a big focus on what tools of the Mind calls dramatization so I was a student acting out the three little bears now we moved on to chapter books where the students are be developing props and they're working on life skills and they're incorporating many of the needs that are really leading us to develop friendships but at the same time develop emotional regulation throughout the day in a way that when we were more focused on just the academic needs with the previous kindergarten curriculum we were seeing some struggles so we're seeing some benefits the students are spending a lot of time speaking to each other there's a strong focus on student discussion so this takes a little bit of pressure off of the teacher because when we have class sizes where we're in the low 20s now that the students are in groups and the teachers are able to spend uh dedicated amounts of time of groups of students instead of the entire class and we're strengthening student Independence so that last group was working even though we had the instructional assistant and the teacher in the classroom that student was working and they were completely on task without an adult with us now we're going to take a quick look at the clip that was created from Miss kona's [Music] class I am going to I'm trying to write more so what this good so what one has the same initial S I am going to make so the main difference between the two clips and what was happening in Miss Lan's class Miss Colon's class as at a m line a hands clip we're able to see a little bit more of what was happening with the student groups and how the students were working through different problems what was happening in Miss Colon's class was that the students were working in groups but miss colog was able to Identify some students who needed some support some redirection and she was able to work with those students independently and give them a mediate authentic Praise on how they were performing in the classroom so throughout the structure of this tools of the Mind program which with the work of our central office administrator we've been Administration we've been extremely fortunate to adopt your Ravine Drive we're seeing success we're seeing that students are are thriving both emotionally and academically and they we allowing for the teachers to give the students the opportunities to work in groups and develop in that capacity while also meeting with students individually and impairs so that's a little bit of now we have the preschool self-regulation piece we have the kindergarten self-regulation piece and for grades 1 through three and we are now developing different places throughout the building where students have a safe space so we're trying to create different areas for students to be able to thrive we're we have uh a focus on identifying and working through feelings and we're also creating spaces where if students do not feel comfortable being outside our sensory veins inside during either of our sensory paths these are images of our sensory room which is down in the Pod which is another place for students where they have the ability to self-regulate calm down if needed and then be able to return to class as as warranted and when they are ready to be uh to be able to re Jo the class and be productive and be happy and uh ready to learn here at Ravine Drive additionally Miss Columbo our school counselor created our Positive Behavior Support Program over the summer so every day at the end of our announcements and Miss AR runs the student who our third grade student who's saying the announcement ends with saying be respectful be responsible and be reflective because we're being Drive runs on great choices at the end of every week students are pulled with tickets or given tickets rather I'm sorry throughout the week students are given tickets for when they are respectful when they're responsible and when they're being reflected at the end of every week students are selected randomly and they're giv prizes from the prize box at the end of every month we have our remarkable Road Runner and our remarkable Road Runner was our previously called our student of the month they would get a certificate and now they also get the book vending machine which is I hope everyone can take a look at on their way out of joining us for tonight's evening which was very generously purchased by the PTO so thank you Dr clavo is here tonight she's our PTO treasurer Dr clavo and the PTO also sponsor all the supplies for the sensory bin so thank you for that rine Drive PTO and here is a video of the book vending machine this was a preview in the summer you may notice or recognize mirand because she was one of our students here today right there yeah now make a selection enter [Music] so Miranda is one of our one of our third grade student leaders who is here tonight going through the sensory bins usually the first week of the month we will Nom we will celebrate and acknowledge all of our remarkable road runners it is just a phenomenal time we'll have 20 students in the hallway lined up to get books everyone is incredibly excited to receive their golden token that goes into the book Vending machine so we're also promoting a love for literacy because this is the most excitement I've seen for any of the students out of any the prizes that we've had over the over the only two years I've been here at Ravine Drive but there's tremendous excitement ran a great job and with [Music] that we are just trying to again create an environment and I'm so grateful for the staff here because this is what they believe in and this is what they come to every day here at rine Drive we're creating environment where students can Thrive students feel welcome students feel loved and we're now developing and creating places for students to have what they need so they can be successful throughout the day so with the help of central office administration with the help help of our PTO and with the help of our community as you can see it's not the best picture but that's fire chief Lee who happened to stop by one day when we were giving out our our book um our rewards those were our weekly winners and Eagle Scout arnov Cody who is joining us to speak a little bit more and we're going to close with this I'm just thankful for all the support that we've received I think that we're providing our students a great opportunity here and I feel like every week we're getting a little bit better so thank you all cannot thank you all enough thank you again mirandon thank you for Ezra I know some students left all the students that stayed we're just filled with gratitude and without further Ado we will P I will pass the microphone to Eagle Scout arnov Cody Ravine Drive alumni arnov graduated from Ravine Drive in Regional High School and a senior at Ruckers University Brunswick studying political science tonight I stand for you all not just as a proud Eagle Scout candidate but as a passionate advocate for the Manan aberin community and our youth today I would like to share with you the details of my Eagle Scout project which aims to help the learning environment for all the students at ring Drive Elementary School this has been a labor of love for me and I I believe it represents the core values of scouting service character leadership and Community to begin let me provide some context as I considered other project ideas such as a similar one at our high school that never came to fruition I chose something meaningful that would benefit the school and make a positive impact on the lives of students I met with the high I met with the High School administration Mr Cronin Mrs miles M Fisco and the mayor of aine Fred tler in order to identify which location the stations would be placed and any liability concerns to consider when they are placed without difficulty after careful consideration and and discussions with the Ravine Drive principal Mr croin I decided to create a sensory guard this this will not only beautify the school grounds but provide an Innovative space where students can use these stations at school in order to improve their senses and learn about learn more about the different textures in the garden the project involved four stations three bins in each of them each of them were separate with different colors and I won for textures sounds hardscapes and as xylophone in just a few months I Enlisted the help of my fellow Scouts friends and family and they volunteered their time and talents to ensure that the the project went smoothly and slowly sorry one of the most rewarding aspects of this project has been the opportunity for leadership and collaboration I learned to coordinate efforts delegate responsibilities to my volunteers and motivate others essential skills I that I will carry with me into the future I have also ensured that it aligns with rine Drive school's educational goals and values I believe that this project will inspire students not only to learn from it but also to take pride in their environment and their community I'd like to express my sincerest gratitude to the members of the MC Board of Education the administration of Ravine Drive Elementary School the principal Mr cron the scout master 2.01 of morgano Mr Saul Manus with my Scout friends and everyone who contributed their time and resources to help make this Vision a reality I hope that this impact of the project will be felt for years to come inspiring future generations of students to engage with their environment and take pride of in their school Community thank you so much for allowing me the time and an opportunity to share my EOS Scout project with you I welcome any questions you may have and I look forward to hearing your them students attended assemblies provided by NJ fors students learned about the importance of making good healthy choices and learned about the dangers of vaping this brings me to the end of my report thank you thank you so much so great to hear about everything that's happening in the schools um so I guess we'll go back to on the agenda the um strategic plan report midor part one sure um while Mr Leman is setting up I'm going to just a brief update in terms of District um updates first I want to thank Dr konin for your leadership and your openness and willingness to um try new curriculum and pilot new programs to ensure that we're meeting the needs of our students but also as you heard tonight that it's a holistic approach in terms of not solely just academics but making sure that we're meeting the needs of students socially and emotionally so um I can't wait to hear to see the video number one um but the other pieces is just the um the data and the outcomes that we'll we'll find later on in the year and he'll share with us thank you again staff um as You Heard lots of activities and events in our schools over the last few weeks uh in addition we also had the Department of Education visit our keys Academy our recovery High School located on bdale Community College the assistant Commissioners County superintendents County ba and also at Specialists were able to learn more and think of other potential ways to fund the program it was positive I feel hopeful um and I I know that we can count on their advocacy to support in terms when it comes down to funding and really finding additional grants and um to support our program please check be sure to check the new website in terms of activities and events the calendar there are a ton of activities in the next few weeks um with lots of celebrations in all of our buildings um whether it's a concert a play um celebrations uh for student achievements so it lots to look forward to at Cambridge Park we collaborated with the police department aine police department specifically to evaluate the procedures for arrival and dismissal so I wanted to take the opportunity to thank them um this evening publicly I did we met yesterday as well which I was able to say thank you in person um they reviewed the arrival and dismissal at Cambridge Park because we were hearing from our community that there was a large volume of traffic um there were some concerns with safety they made some recommendations um and those recommendations are now in place um we changed the traffic flow we also um they also added additional signs in terms of how the traffic should be routed and we also have now have a crossing guard there um so they were able to evaluate where um where we had some of our students Crossing so they were able to do that as well so we're really really grateful for that in terms of school security as I mentioned at our last meeting we were we would be exploring other options um along um as well as with the both police Chiefs we scheduled a meeting um at the end of the month with a private organization where I'll be meeting with them along with our security specialist um Mr lemman and miss casee and we also are communicating and learning from another District who is similar to ours it's a regional um district and local who hire their own security as well um in both cases and both scenarios are options we do need to involve legal council and also Insurance to ensure that we're capture all of the potential risks with with either options so we'll be able to update next month along um with that while with this was not the plan that we originally considered um and it's a just you know other options we do plan on and obviously continue to work with the Chiefs because we have a very very good relationship with them and ensuring um that we're following plans and they know our plans um moving forward and that schools are safe the central office team has been making their visits and rounds to school just to connect gain feedback and also provide updates on budget qac and chronic absenteeism this is something that we started last year but in terms of um these types of discussion that impact the entire District Community we felt that it was necessary to cover those particular topics um this month and make sure our staff are well aware of where we are with those items um now Mr Leman and I will provide our midyear strategic Plan update part one um we will continue the um part two at our December meeting and I'll review and share the presentation with Mike in order so you guys so everyone understands in terms of why it's a two-part house so our strategic plan is from years 22 to 27 I'll probably I'll grab the so I don't have my back to every sorry so we started our strategic plan actually in 2020 I think we all remember what was happening at that time right Co and shutdown and lots of things taking place um the board has always been committed to ensuring that we have a strategic plan place which is over the course of 5 years um so we did venture out and try something new and we started that planning and it was actually virtual um all of our meetings with community members um Board of Education members our administrators um schoolwide communities so that process started then we went into we continued the meetings in um 2021 in person where we were meeting as groups developing goals collecting data um getting feedback and input from community members whether they were um with surveys or in person so we did a lot of that work in person which really really worked out well um what we are noticing um and in coners in discussions and a lot of dialogue with um with Ford but also with our administrators and even some of our parents is that a lot has changed since then so when we started that strategic plan these were the goals and we kind of we this is a Snapchat of a um over 50 page document um we put up here just a snapshot um the needs were different back then now we're going you know we're 5 years later uh needs are totally different than what we were thinking were the need then so our primary focus back then we know was to return to school in person stay in school in person full-time um put things in place to get as many kids back um in in school um somewhere home school there were a lot of things going on so this here um is a snapshot that we created because to emphasize that we do need to it's not necessarily a revision to the Strategic plan how the goals remain the same however how we're going about to achieve those goals are will be a little bit different and that's in collaboration with the administrative team and the reason being is because some of these items we've already achieved and they are just continuous they are always going to be what we're finding now four years later is that they're always going to be ongoing because it's what's right for kids um in order for them to devel to develop academically social and emotionally and just um just to be better um better prepared for future whether it's post whatever co- secondary plan they may have so we highlighted on here um what's highlighted in yellow are the things that we are doing really excelling in and that we have put things in place we'll continue to do them but it's not necessarily a um we're not necessarily prioritizing that as um as a need um um anymore it's just embedded it's everyday practice so and what I mean by that so in terms of the seal component the mental health and wellness with um School community and staff we have we are really really proud because we have strong Partnerships um over the last seven years um rip up really over the last four years after Co with the YMCA for counseling and connecting families um prevention first we have um esss effective School solutions that we still have a relationship and they're in our buildings with providing um therapeutic services and we also um now with you heard tonight um n4s which is one of the state hubs for any mental health um or prevention programs so that tier one tier two they're in our schools they're um providing parent education and um they're also running assemblies on bullying on drug and alcohol prevention and things like that and topics such as that um in addition to that for NJ for we add another organization that is able to provide um any specific um more intensive support to our students and families um we've connected we have a list of providers that were able to connect with um our families too in in times of need um crisis hotlines all those things and we even now we've had all that information posted on our website as well for those foundies um in addition to that we um under um and mental health um we have a lot of educational programs dayto day Ms has their advisory program um in the morning and that started um a year and a half ago where we worked with the teachers and we established curriculum that's being used at Ms in terms of activities during that class period to help develop that social emotion and just connecting with um with one another that was the biggest um hurdle the biggest struggle and continues to be in terms of students connecting with each other and also you know just just being respectful and knowing how to talk to each other and um talk about their F in terms of community engagement and communication um over the last um last few years and particularly this year we we now um in terms of social media Instagram page board Facebook page new website um newsletters there so there's been a flow of communication in terms of from District but also building the building in terms of sharing newsletters and things like that um we've also continued our partnership with with the towns in terms of like I mentioned meeting with the police departments particularly and sharing some things um that we have concerns about so one year it was bike safety you said can you put some information at or give us information that we can share they put something together and they shared information in terms of raising awareness in terms of you know the kids wearing helmets and being safe when they're on the roads and things like that not everyone I've known that not everyone still doesn't wear a helmet however in terms of getting the information out and really trying to encourage our parents and the community to be safe um when we're out on the road and when cars are driving pass them as well to be safe and follow um the speed lims and things like that um with communication as well um just the these me the board um the board meetings have um changed dramatically thank you um in terms of you know just having that dialogue throughout the throughout the meetings but also just us allowing us to provide the updates as well um what's happening in the community as well um in terms of diversity and equity and inclusivity um as you know with there were some there were some Cuts last year with budget so budget does affect strategic planning because you have to plan with what we have and still ensure that we're our um money is being spent and be responsible that we're adherent to the goals and the plans that we put in place so while we no longer um have a director of Dei the Dei is embedded in all of the areas so whether it's in Student Success which is um curriculum and instruction um for example making sure that those standards are updated revised and in terms of includ including um those those um updates in those particular areas uh so there's books that um we needed to update and or remove that that was done throughout the last few years and also just we did a desk audit of um curriculum for Dei but we also looked at a big goal was to look at staff in terms of um where we are in terms of hiring if we're hiring that candidates that are representative of our community and we at our district actually gets complimented from County that we are in terms of Staff we actually are one of the most diverse staff in comparison to some of the schools our size in our County so which is um something to be very very product we continue professional development for all of the staff in all of these areas so not only academics but also Mental Health First a seal um in terms of Dei making sure our programs are supported our staff feel supported in terms of um sh teaching the content if there were any changes um and then also those extracurricular clubs and things like that that's all connected to all of the actual CLS so what has happened transpired over probably over the last um over the last since during summer up until now um we've been partnering with um we partner with e um so which mran and I were are able to participate in some District leadership professional development but um then we can come out and share um with our administrative team in terms of leading some of this charge and some of the work so for example chronic apps and ISM they we attended professional development and then we then shared out team in terms of addressing those particular issues um the other topic that we focused on was the Strategic plan and they actually are coming out and have been meeting with us in terms of providing professional development for our um for our administrative team they're due to come out next week um so we're excited about that what's different with having them present um while it's a little bit different than school boards um when we prend and went through the whole process the ab focuses more on um condensing words and let's get to the me of it where where does the work need to be done what how are we supporting it how are we measuring it what activities how are we getting Community involved in terms of the goals so we plan on in December to give a layout of what that plan will look like in terms of so it look a little bit different it'll be the vision of 2030 so then this way when we finish off 2027 then we hope then we start to work on the next strategic plan but then it's also giving foresight and planning for for the the following three years after that so I'm going to turn it over to thank you so if you take a look at the other two components to our strategic plan which is finance and Facilities it's not highlighted and so that's telling us that we continue to focus on those areas they become priorities so we continue to in invest in our facilities to maintain student safety we continue to invest in our student students in terms of Student Success and so as we continue to work with the board and our stakeholders how do we continue to make facilities and finance a priority so that's something that we're going to continue to work on as a leadership team and collectively with the board and then of course at the top not highlighted is Student Success when we presented last month on our spring assessment data we talked a lot about what we're doing to move forward in terms of academics and just refresh your memory after each of the components of how are we addressing some of the deficiencies in scores we connected those action plans to the Strategic plan so the board the public can go back to that presentation and see how are we focusing on strategic plan to meet the needs of our students under Student Success so this particular document shows us goals and objectives the the difficult part with this is it doesn't always give us meaningful ways to look at the data that shows product progress so our next document we're going to share with the board so what we're working on is a data dashboard and so we're calling it a district score card this is a draft that when we come up for part two next month we're to share with the board what this would look like when it's filled in so the the district's scard or the data dashboard has taken each of the goals and objectives from strategic plan has taken each of the activities from strategic plan and now hasn't made little more tangible so when we break it down by section we can identify different parts that we are going to show to our community how we're showing progress aligned to our strategic plan so there's a baseline data which we're going to talk about in just a moment and then we're going to show you as we progress through each year how we start to quantify and qualify each of those data components sure right so you can see number one Student Success our students College caree ready so obviously one of the biggest factors in terms of data would be looking at our graduation rate something that we had talked about when I did the summer data presentation right so looking at that assessment data but more importantly looking at the percentage of students who were graduating and who's graduating college Career Technical ready so we're going to start putting some of that data in here for all of our community to be able to see and measure year to date so at the moment this is blank with data and we can scroll through some of the components what we're working on with our principles we are finalizing what each of the key strategic measures will be we're going to start to fill in the Baseline data and we're going to start to fill in a couple of years worth of data so when we come back next month we'll be able to share this document with the board so you'll have it ahead of time we'll go through each of the components and we'll show you if we're making progress that what that would look like if we are net neutral which means we haven't shown any growth yet or if there's a particular deficiency we'll show you that just real quick I'm just going to scroll to the [Music] bottom as you can see that there's nine different components and when you see the document next month it'll be colorcoded so a blue will mean that we're we're meeting we're exceeding the goal in that particular year green will mean that we are on track to meet that goal whip a positive trend in that particular year or by the time the Strategic plan comes to an end or we bridge to 2030 yellow I mean we did not achieve the yearly goal but we're we're adding another layer to the Improvement plan to show that for the next year that's going to be a focus area for us and then Red's going to show that we did not achieve that particular goal either from Baseline data or from year to date depending on where we are within the Strategic plan important to remember that in a 5-year strategic plan we're right now we are in the middle of that Five-Year Plan and again the goal being with our leadership and with our board is to bridge 2027 to 2030 using this as our guide Mr anything else want to add um the the only thing that I would add is that so once the document like the um we're saying Vision 2030 right now I mean we may name it something else um but the it'll all be public information that'll be broadcasted on the website um with the scorecard so then this way we're in full transparency the community knows where weely not only with strategic planning but really this piece the scorecard because a lot of times when we do the we all know when we do the district assessment that report or looking at all those scores we're wearing glasses we can't see we don't understand um you know we kind of we need time to digest it but that document is a big document where this is actually this is uh this is real data this these are our kids and these are the benchmarks that we're using to measure Student Success um and letting parents and everyone know and that's super important to I know the board but also to us and the administrative team so part two December thank you so much um but moving on to the board president report um I just have to say I mean I'm so glad to see a dashboard uh that is a pretty standard part of strategic planning that we as a district and I mean New Jersey school boards Association helps run the Strategic plan process they don't have this this is not part of it and I mean I've been doing strategic planning with the the district since I think like 2013 2014 as a community volunteer never seen a dashboard before so really thank you so much uh Mrs PR Mr lean because this is this is definitely what we need to really round out this process and so the whole Community can see where we're at um and it it really makes a strategic plan a living document then because we're not just verbally reporting but something that everybody can really look at whether you attend the meeting or not um speaking of attending meetings I just want to announce that we are um cancelling the December 5th board meeting we are going to have a meeting on December 19th and it'll have all the business for December at that meeting um December 5th there are boatloads of things happening in both the community and in schools and just seemed like about one of the toughest days in early December to have a board meeting so um thanks to the administration for uh being able to consolidate what we can do so we can get it all done on the 19th and we can go to all our fun things on the 5th so huray um and then um wanted to all right so just quick want to let the community know that um the board is part of and the district um is being reviewed by the state this year this is the um qac the quality single accountability Continuum review it happens every 3 years so it's not like we were just lucky this is the time that we get reviewed um what happens is um I mean this really builds accountability to the state they they're they come in and and have a site visit they do a desk audit of all our files and um the first step of it is self-compliance which is a review of all of our operations in relation to States standards and um the administration did a a um an evaluation that then has been reviewed by uh little mini Committees of the board and so I'm hoping that each of those committees can report now um so I don't know should we go with instruction and program first does one I don't there we go okay so on the instruction and program committee it's one of the five areas as was just said and the first seven indicators on it are scored by the New Jersey Department of Education so we don't play a role in that that's based on our standardized test scores in ela Math and Science and there's also an indicator for high school graduation that is scored by the Department of Education so as far as those indicators go we have no impact on it that is what it is um that that section counts for 60 points so right now if you were to look at our score we La labeled to be determined because we have to have all those input by the New Jersey Department of Education um the other indicators are numbers 8 through 16 and we selfscore them so we actually like take a look at our data and they represent the district's approv curriculum guides one for each content for each of those sections District provides the required evidence but in evidence in terms of artifacts to support the score we give so we do think like provide links to our board approved curriculum that includes assessments resources accommodations materials pacing guides and standards alignment so it's not like we're just coming up with these numbers out of nowhere we have to provide artifacts for all of them indicator 16 scores the district's plan for interventions our district follows the mtss model which is the multi-tier systems of support which is an approved model of intervention we upload that mtss planed as supporting documentation already we've scored ourselves with that 40 out of 40 points and we have all the documentation to support that so I'd like to turn it over to Mr lein to talk about it a little further thank you Mr Scott and thank you to our subcommittee um so I just want to point out to the full board I did mention this to the subcommittee when we met so the 60 out of 60 points which are based on our test scores and graduation data the the frustrating part about that scoring is that it's out of our hands um what we are finding based on CAC cohort districts from last year both in Mammoth and ocean counties um they did not meet with much success based on where the formula puts them from the result of test scores many districts um have failed that portion of qac they haven't met the full 60 points that or the bare minimum of 80% um so we we try to be optimistic in terms of where our district will land um but being realistic we are in the true possibility that most likely we will not get the full amount of points under that particular part of imp so should that happen uh the qac monitoring team will then recommend a district Improvement plan which at that point we would be able to come back to the board and explain uh where the numbers were what the score wound up being and then what we'll put together for an improvement plan should we go down that road um in the past we have met with success and we've earned the points uh and we've been able to move forward with qac for that particular c-o thank you I just wanted to add so yesterday I was in a meeting so there will be a broadcast coming out from the Department of Education for districts that are being qac this year to potentially apply for a waiver for what Mr lean was talking about so there may be an opportunity to provide additional data um in VI of the test scores okay interesting so we'll keep you everyone posted on that okay um okay uh moving on to Personnel the U the qac personel [Music] not so first we uh Personnel subcommittee met the other day Personnel is one of the five district performance reviews that the New Jersey Department educational score the indicators represent the district's performance in the area of personnel there are a total of five Personnel indicators that are self scored by The Districts The State Department of Education Representatives will score the five indicators during a desk order and during an in-person session in the month of February to each of the indicators in section one 1-5 the district will provide the required evidence and artifacts to support the score we provide a link for all of the necessary evidence for the new the Department of Education State reviews to be and so far um I I was on that committee as well and um I don't know if Dr R wants to cover any of it but that we did pretty well on that part um just we have all the structures in place yes yes we uh we did up this is where yep there it is uh yes we did we were able to prescore ourselves unlike the inp uh piece of qack we were able to score our entire section um we mentioned um Mr mcover mentioned a desk audit uh which essentially means there's some files that we will send out to the state and they will review prior to their visit later in the winter uh and then there's an on-site component where members of qac uh Team review team will come in and it will review uh staff files and so on and so for that have to do with HR Personnel uh and then and we're confident that we're going to score well uh above 80% in that area and thank you for the committee for all the work that you did thank you um I think we have a a a facilities committee I don't know who's Miss SP reporting out she can get her mic to work so for facilities and finance um um we our subcommittee met earlier this week um I can tell you that it's an extremely eye-opening process the whole QC process um we went met with um Miss case and every penny that the district spends has to be accounted for there's really stringent oversight and approval by the county and by the state um and that's just the finance portion um we did a self assessment that part is complete um I think Lindsay tell me if I'm mistaken but the this the state also did their assessment and provided that information or not yet they will the desk the desk got it is in February thank you um and then we also have to provide all the information they do come on site to visit our facilities for the facilities portion I learned that also the community will be able to visit the facilities so for example if you have a student in a younger grade and you want to see what the high school looks like and you've never been there that's the opportunity to see what's available what's going on what needs updating what you know may be fine um one of the things that we can tell you is that every roof in the district right now is expired warranty so that's something that we're going to be working on um and I'm sure the state will like to hear about that um and then what I found fascinating is every single um facility piece in our school down to the cleaning and maintenance and pest control supplies that we use have to be documented for safety profiles our defibrillator machines or equipment and all these school buildings it was just a really detailed uh it's probably I would think it's the most detailed of the sections that we're going to be talking about and so a lot of gathering of information by Miss case and just really impressive the amount of data that goes to the state for them to provide oversight they we have to account for for everything so um really impressive recordkeeping the fact that we had it all it's almost pretty much our side is complete our self assessment is complete um so I think we scored at least 80 96 out of 100 perfect so almost perfect so um we'll find out so this is the area I think that the state will have the most say in so if there's things in facilities or finance that need reworking or addressing there will also be either a district Improvement plan or a corrective action plan so something to keep in mind if it's something that cost money that needs to be corrected um or improved upon that is part of our budget and it's required so we have to figure out how to balance the budget for that thank you so much and then there's there's one more category that's governance so our committee uh met actually yesterday and governing is really centered around policy and procedure um we also self-scored on all the indicators um we scored um we got all the points on everything except for one which I'll go over um but the indicators that we did well on um based on our self-scoring is reviewing policies in a timely fashion making sure they're all up to date which I think as people know we now have a policy Committee in place which reviews things um pretty frequently policies to make sure they're all up to date um every year as a board as well we evaluate the superintendent um by the end of June it has to be done um so we've met that uh we also have to make sure that we have a current contract with the superintendent and follow procedures um with the board as well as getting County approval on time we've done that uh rehire staff list needs to be done by May 15th of each year um which we've done uh corrective action plans need to be done in a timely fashion which I think we just have one two two um plant in place um budget in terms of that we have to follow the proper um County and state procedures um and getting our approvals on time which we do uh we meet the standards in terms of presenting to the public we have the big public budget meeting that does happen um and we post the userfriendly budget on the district website as well Title One procedures we do follow as well with parent letters family nights all that um we follow uh English uh elll programs um as well we have those in place and follow procedure we follow the open meetings uh public meetings policy um the minutes as you he each um Ram meeting we do approve those minutes and we do that um uh pretty frequently it's it's basically two weeks later eventually a month later okay uh so all right days later um the minutes are up um and then the treasur report is also approved on Time Financial disclosures the only area um that we actually did not um uh that we couldn't say that we were adhering to was having a librarian in every building um that was the only one we have one in all the elementary schools are staffed Lloyd Road and up are not um in the past we have had a floater in those buildings um but we do not currently my understanding from um the the team that uh you know husc is also looking at this and reviewing this more because there are many districts that have had to make um tough choices um from a budget standpoint and that is an area that unfortunately a lot of schools for the upper grades um uh have to do away with um the kids are still my understanding is they can still take out the books even in the upper grades but they don't have the media support so you know we talked about that you know even moving into next year potentially discussing other creative ways that we help the kids more in the otheres and I don't know if you have anything else to add I would just add that uh all the libraries are accessible so students have access um so when we talk about high school for example there may not be a certificated media specialists in the library but there are staff who have their operational Duty and they're in the library we also have teachers in all buildings who bring their classes into the library to use uh the space the technology the books the so they they have access what QA scoring is the the Personnel side thank you so much everybody for a very comprehensive uh report um back to what was mentioned in the superintendent report that over the last year we have and last couple years we've worked hard as a board to be more communicative and have more conversations out here where everybody can hear them have the Administration report and I think you're seeing a lot of this I mean it's really coming to fruition now this this is exactly what we should be doing um just speaking as one board member um so hey you're here to tell your friends if they want to know what's going on come to these meetings they're interesting um because we're talking about our kids right now um
