Um, one presentation tonight is the uh SSDS and HIV report from period 2. This is the report that covers 36 00:12:53.839 --> 00:13:09.120 January to June of this year. Uh, and the student safety data systems incident is the first um uh report that um all districts have to give. And for the period January 26 to June 26, we had 31 37 00:13:09.120 --> 00:13:25.519 um student safety data system incidents, 27 at Edgar, and four at the high school. By category, um 20 of them were due to violence, four to vandalism, three for substances, one was connected 38 00:13:25.519 --> 00:13:40.959 to a confirmed HIV case, and three were other instances leading to removals. um by school the HIV incidences we had 35 total uh in that period six at Campbell 25 at the middle school four at 39 00:13:40.959 --> 00:13:56.800 the high school and then one part of this report that we've promised the board every year is the option G option G refers to our policy where principles when they are presented with the facts on an HIV case even if all those facts 40 00:13:56.800 --> 00:14:11.519 were to be true and the case would still not be HIV we can opt to not invest investigated as a HIV. I thought Matuchen um through amazing work collaboration in the board, the administration, the MEA, and of course our parents and students did as well as any district to navigate the challenges through COVID. Um but 44 00:14:58.160 --> 00:15:14.959 we're still required to do these reports um and establish these plans. So Dr. Herzog and I met reviewed our plan from last year. Uh made some updates every year by July 31st. This what's called virtual or remote instruction plan is due to the county. It needs to be board 45 00:15:14.959 --> 00:15:30.480 approved. So obviously that's why it's on this agenda. I'll just go quickly through this. Um, as Miss um, as Miss Alvich reminded me before the meeting, um, both the SSDS uh, student safety data report and this virtual or remote instruction is available on schoolboard 46 00:15:30.480 --> 00:15:45.760 net right now and tomorrow morning uh, will be posted to the website. So, if anyone missed anything tonight, this will be on there. Um, this plan, by the way, would be implemented during a district closure lasting more than three consecutive days through a declared state of emergency, a declared public 47 00:15:45.760 --> 00:16:00.720 health emergency, or a directive by the appropriate health agency or officer to institute a public health related closure. A day of virtual instruction under this plan is considered the equivalent of a full day of school attendance for the purposes of meeting state and local graduation requirements, 48 00:16:00.720 --> 00:16:16.720 awarding cross course credit, and such other matters as determined by commissioner of education. So, a snow day does not count. Two snow days does not count. Um, we have a problem with the air conditioning that we have to close. That doesn't count. Uh, declared states emergency where the county 49 00:16:16.720 --> 00:16:33.839 superintendent grants us the ability to do these remote days. But we still have to have the plan. So, the first part of the plan is making sure that we have equitable access and opportunity for instruction. That talks about access to devices and broadband. That talks about our learning platform. that talks about 50 00:16:33.839 --> 00:16:49.920 grading and quarantine instruction if needed and required school day length which is ours is our default is five days a week full days and what our remote learning student expectations are. The second part is addressing special education needs because special 51 00:16:49.920 --> 00:17:08.240 education IEPs are a legal document uh all the provisions in a student's IEP is expected to be carried out if a district were to be virtual or remote. So the next section outlines that the next section similarly addresses the um the needs of multi-ingual learners or MLS um 52 00:17:08.240 --> 00:17:23.679 and that's the same thing any multilingual learner students are um able to access their ESL program and that continues through remote closure. The next section is the attendance plan. Uh it talks about how attendance is required to be taken. Um and just like 53 00:17:23.679 --> 00:17:39.840 we did during COVID, students are required to be on um Zoom or Google Meet. Uh and attendance is taken by the teacher and recorded just like it would be when they're in person. The next section talks about the safe delivery of meals and um that would continue for 54 00:17:39.840 --> 00:17:56.240 free and reduced lunch students. We continue to distribute those meals and deliver those to homes like we did in COVID. Um and we expanded that through partnership with Pmptonian during those um during that difficult year. The next part of the plan talks about a facilities plan where how would we 55 00:17:56.240 --> 00:18:12.000 maintain our facilities during a closure if teachers and students weren't here and we've designated in that case a list of essential personnel would have to be on site to make sure the buildings were being ventilated and cleaned and so forth. We have a whole list of other 56 00:18:12.000 --> 00:18:28.559 considerations like what about accelerated learners? What about social emotional health? What about title one programming? What about 21st century community learning which we don't have? What about credit recovery, extended student learning opportunities like 504, INRS, RTI? What about district provided child care and community programming that uses the district? That's all outlined in our plan. Those are additional expectations which we learned from early on in um the uh spring of 2020. What worked and what didn't work and how to ensure best learning here in Matuchen. Um and then we've met our yearly annual requirement and I'm happy to answer any questions about that. Um, of the 75 students, we've had 20% meet the the criteria to exit the program, which is tremendous growth. Results uh for the New Jersey 64 00:20:19.280 --> 00:20:35.200 graduation proficiency assessment and the New Jersey student learning assessment is delayed as of now from from the state. So, we'll await any information coming from them. We then discussed our arts high program. The 65 00:20:35.200 --> 00:20:51.520 committee reviewed a request from the finance committee to explore um our spending for the arts high program. So we took a look at that information. And then finally, we heard about some updates uh for opting out of certain content in the curriculum. There were 66 00:20:51.520 --> 00:21:09.039 some recent developments and guidance that was issued by the New Jersey Department of Education. district plans to utilize a strategic communicative partnership approach when responding to these parent um opt- out requests. It is typical in these situations that there's negotiations and settlements at the end of the project, which we are nearing. There's going to be a drainage area that would prevent water runoff into the old basically the old part portion of the building.
