mayor Watson yes commissioner cabon yes commissioner sui abstain and mayor romc yes okay motion carries public comment on agenda items only if you have if anybody from the public would like to comment on the agenda please come to the podium state your name address your concerns and please try to limit your concerns to five minutes thank you good evening uh my name is Mike Don I'm the county sheriff and and mayor if you could if I could just take a brief minute of your time I have no no items on here but I do have another meeting I to get to if I'd like comment um so a year of my term has passed um I think the sheriff's department is moving in a very positive direction I know that throughout this year we've been in the city with a lot of proactive details community events and so forth um I welcome those you you all I believe all five of you have my number if there's anything I can do to help my I do have a great working relationship with uh Chief Hoffman we've been on the phone probably several times a week talking about different things and stuff that we can help out and services that we can continue to assist um here in the city I assure you that 2025 is going to be no different we are going to help out as much as we possibly can whatever you know keeping in mind that are we are Manpower issues too just like everybody else and we're we're out in the county throughout the county but uh we will help out as much as we can um I know that a lot of you has reached out to me over the years or over the past year we've talked um regarding Senor officers there is a big presence and that's the way we're trying to keep it so if you have any questions for me I'll gladly answer them but if you if you don't if you need anything please reach out to us thank you sheriff and we and I think you know we really appreciate it uh just like you say just the presence is making a difference thank you no problem good evening and happy New Year Tim cardi mville uh my first comment is on on resolution item 12 for the fire truck refurb I guess you want to call it a refurb not to exceed $38,000 I was wondering what was being done to the truck since it's 6 years old and honestly I remember a couple years ago I stood up in front of this commission and I questioned the same exact truck and I was told that this commission was going to be bonding for it before the end of your term and December of this year will be the end of your term and I haven't seen a bond on it but I see where we're paying up to 38,000 not to get it fixed which that 38,000 could possibly be put towards the percentage for a brand new truck for the bond again 26 years old don't have modern or modern equipment or the modern things that is issued under the NFPA can I address that Mr Comm wait till he's finished the rest of the questions yeah for the rest of questions thank you my second is on resolution item 39 $20,000 for social media advertising and print media this is the third year we've paid $20,000 so we're up to $60,000 I haven't seen anything on social media I haven't seen any type of advertising for our city and I haven't seen any print media I'm sitting home during Prime Time television between 8 11: at night and on Channel 6 I'm seeing violence commercials I haven't seen anything for the city of milvo nothing we've paid this we' paid over if this gets approved tonight that's $60,000 of no TV time no social media time other than a Facebook page that disappeared or any kind of printed material I haven't seen nothing on billboards anything so if we're in competition with vinin we're losing their media to them badly and instead of taking this $220,000 for another one-year term of I still don't know what we're getting why don't we put it towards Union contracts we got employees still working without contracts maybe we should worry about our employees before we start advertising and not seeing any return it's like running a business are you going to keep buying the same stuff if you're not seeing a return are you going to keep doing the same stuff with your money if you're not seeing a return and as a taxpayer I'm not seeing a return but I see violence killing it on the CH TV during prime time then my next next one is give me a second on this new position or it's on first reading again why do we need a new position when we got employees working we contracts that's my question honestly we never had this position in I don't know I've been coming up here for 15 years and this is the first commission that's ever had a deputy director of public affairs a few years ago and now we're getting a deputy director of another uh Administration title I think revenue and finance thank you you know but yeah we got employees that are working without contracts let's work with the employees we have hired and bring them up to a workable and living wage before we start making up positions for somebody else because I'm sure that between 40 and 55 even if we go 50,000 would go towards contracts and let's take that 20 from the social media that's $70,000 towards contracts let's look out for our own people before we start more thank you thank you Mr cardi want me address the fire truck go ahead so with a reference to the fire truck Mr cardi um you'll recall that we were told that we had to replace firet trucks after a certain amount of time and that if we didn't our insurance rates would go up uh this made no sense to me so I started doing some research I reached out to a fireman in another fire department who contacted the manufa factur of the trucks and found out we could refurbish and recertify for significantly less money and what that does is get that truck up to standards so it all the Hydraulics all the pumps everything gets taken up to standards I then contacted the insurance broker our insurance broker and asked him about the insurance and he said that's a tale that's often told but it's not true so it won't affect the insurance rate it allows us give us an up-to-date modern certified fir Tru and saves us about $1.1 million so that's why I initiated that with the cooperation of Mr hwit and the fire department it's also why when your professional staff is telling you something they're always looking out for their department and they're not always looking out for the entire city it's our job to keep the picture the big picture the entire city so I appreciate Mr hu's assistance on that and I appreciate the commission's assistance on getting that done can I answer for the U go ahead yeah so I could re I could reassure everybody that it's been one of my top priorities to make sure that we make progressions with uh Union negotiations that's for sure um but along with that uh you know you questioned um this position uh with the salary ordinance um yeah I wanted to make sure that um you we're making the proper steps and we're going down the right path you know to this year is an election year um you know so all of us aren't going to be here you know I think we need to establish a team to take over these big challenges that are you know in front of us you know the the issue with the airport um you know handling U funding grant writing um you know there's a lot of things that I'm checking into but obviously I can't handle them by myself because as I don't have grant writing experience and as this you know as we experien with this commission I've been told I'm not an accountant I'm not an engineer um you know not a lawyer well the CEO of Boeing doesn't build airplanes he hires somebody to build them so that's what I want to do I want to find the right person to take the city to the next level to um and it's within my powers and duties to present this to the commission express my interest in you know why I want this position and um you know underneath my department and granting um the job description or the job duties I mean we could try to make sure that that gets done this year throughout this year and also in preparation for the next commission you know every time that we come up here you know we always hear Commissioners talk about p previous commissions what they did wrong well this time I want to make sure that we have the right people in place to get ready for the next commission you know same thing as just raising your kids you know you want your next Generation to be better I want the next commission to have you know better path than we did so I think it's very important um that we follow through with this deputy director of Revenue position uh I think grant writing is important important um you know we need somebody that's resourceful that can you know talk to the county talk to the Improvement Authority um basically to put projects together make sure that the CRP deal goes through with being dependent on the nav Avenue project you know making sure that you know we can proceed with you know looking at different grants you we talking about cops grants I don't I don't have the experience to do that you know so having somebody that has the experience to look at the cops Grant maybe it would help us get us more officers you know so there's a lot of possibilities I want to make sure that we're ready for the next Commission and I think this job is going to be a key component to putting that together go ahead Bill my name is Bill Horn I'm from milville I live in milville I just want to address your concerns about the advertising money that's being spent and I understand what you're saying but first of all we only get paid I'm running the organization that handles that we only get paid for work that we do and a lot of work that we've done and been asked to do for example or videos for business to bring businesses into the city of milville which we have done very successfully I have a team of professionals that do quality work topnotch work I've also covered events I've covered all kinds of updated photos from for the city and charged none of that's been charged for we didn't get paid for any of that stuff I did that because I'm a milville resident and I want to help so we've done a lot of that we also took over a website that was the glown AR distri website and turn it into a tourism website for the city of milville called there's more to milville it's visit milville nj.com that was a major undertaking we redid that whole site it's beautiful it's got a calendar of events that's thorough it's got all the information you need for anyone looking about what's going on in the city of milville so these are things we want to continue to do and we did create a TV commercial so I don't think it's run yet but we did do a TV commercial as asked and we have another one that we plan to do in the works so I think I agree Vin's got stuff out there it looks like they're doing more than us but we can do better than violent we got a better team of people working on this stuff I can tell you right now the stuff that we do is several notches above what violence's been able to do so I'm hoping that we continue to get to do stuff and first of all I did not get 20 ,000 a year I only got paid for the work we did so every year it's a little different so I'm hoping that we get to continue to do that I hope we get to have meetings to talk about because we have ideas I my idea was let's do a presentation before you vote on this let's let you hear what we have in mind let you know the things that we think we can do well that will make a real big difference for the city of mville I'm of mville I was born and raised here I came back to milville because I believe in milville I do work for all kinds of organizations in milville that I help them with and I would like to continue doing that so thank you for your concerns I understand what you're saying but also we do have two social media Pages for from mville by the way thank you Bill good evening Bill Smith citizen of milville longtime citizen of milville I only have one question as to what the purpose of this new uh deputy director of Revenue and finance is going to be uh don't we have a whole floor full of professionals doing all this because the only thing I'm seeing here is that we're now going to hire somebody to help make a decision we have people to do that what what's this guy's purpose going to be or girl whoever it is I don't see any purpose in it commissioner can't handle the job I can't think I went over why I think this position is important and it's up to the commission to feel the same way I still don't see what what that person is going to do for you I mean you have a you have a whole floor full of people you have business administrator Joe couchy you've got all these other people that are finance and revenue people that do what you're what you're doing they're now bringing you the information why do you need an assistant to make a decision it's not to make the am I answer so you Mr Smith is that your only question yeah yeah then goad it's kind of hard to um you know give reasons without um you know making others maybe necessarily look bad me I'm not for that but I could just tell you that there are areas that we are lacking experience there are areas that we are lacking a resourceful uh person uh to follow through with these projects and I believe it's necessary in the best interest of the city of milville to appoint somebody this position that I oversee that can help guide me help guide this commission to making the best decision we can moving forward with the large projects and the task at hand if if I'm understanding you correctly you're telling me that the people you have on the second floor are somewhat incompetent so rather than replacing the incompetent people on the second floor you're going to hire another person who may or may not have any competence in Revenue may or may not be able to help you make these decisions and you're still going to keep the people that you're now telling us that are incompetent no that's not what I'm saying at all I'm saying that we don't have somebody dedicated to grant writing on the second floor I'm saying that there's a lot of money out there that's available through water and sewer grants that we don't have anybody to follow up on it to rate these grants to get that money that's available through the state what I'm saying is is we need some more support we need to find more grants like there's a South Jersey Gas grant that helps pay for EMTs we need somebody to investigate that we don't have anybody for that now what we need to do is we need to strength the um Outreach the resources that we have and we need to find somebody that overcomes challenges things that are impossible to do that's what I'm telling you I'm telling you that we have very lar projects like the nav Avenue project he I'm hearing you need a grant writer and you're applying for a deputy director correct you know I I don't see where the two became the same well I'm hoping that you know part of the job that he's performing doing the grant writing will help pay for the salary first off and and then secondly I could tell you that um you know as far as having leadership with government background that's something that we lack and I could tell you that moving forward with the deal with the airport and trying to find somebody to run that right now we're sending out emails asking hey who can attend who can attend we should have somebody that is on point that is part of a group part of a team that the drba or the attorneys can reach out to and they can run that team that's what I'm saying and we need somebody that has experience and somebody that can provide us the things that they've done seems to me that all those things you're saying that that we need to have is what we have a commissioner for Wow and if you're not you know I what I don't understand is if you don't feel you were confident enough to step up and take that position and take over that department why did you do it not feeling confident enough in your own abilities to where you sit here and say I need something to help me I I don't get it I really don't get it you keep saying that I'm not competent enough to run this position you know I'm giving the commission an opportunity here you just said you weren't confident you just you just said why don't you let him speak you just said be respectful I think the mayor controls the meeting M Mr Mr Smith if I don't want a discussion up here just if you have any further comments please make them Sor vice mayor Watson will make comments during the ordinance anybody else for public comment on agenda items only I'm Tom McGinty I've lived in milville for 65 years um went to school came back I've uh uh got here a little late but I the minute I got here I started hearing I don't have the experience I don't have the experience I don't have the experience I heard it like four times Mr McGinty does this relate to an agenda item yes it does okay thank you Mr Watson says he doesn't have the experience and now he wants to hire somebody we don't have the money to hire anybody anyway we have a guy who's on the planning board who wrote grants utilize somebody that we have we also had somebody that was Director of rever Finance who seemingly always had money left over at the end of the year and now he's not the director of Revenue and finance over the head of you know this non-cooperation people didn't get their way so they moved him out and I don't think it's right he was effective he a little aeric but you he got the job done he has years of experience doing it and I think it would be a travesty to hire somebody and I think I you know who are you going to find and then you you say I'm going to supervise them well you don't have the experience to supervise somebody so you'll have somebody that's just running them mu doing whatever writing grants that you know nothing about so uh I it doesn't make sense grant writing is in my my estimation because I'm in the process of working on one it's not brain surgery you know we have attorneys we have other sources and resources here in the city that are already working for us so let's use them instead of you know backpedaling and you know looking to bring somebody else in and add another mouth to The Feeding Frenzy you know that's the you know the way this thing runs I mean we have more people that you know are already here that can get the job done I'm confident in that you know and um you know that's pretty much all I have to say I you know let's get let's get over it and uh uh you know forget this hiring more people hiring more attorneys hiring you know we have attorneys get them to get stuff done seeing no one else I will close the public comment portion on the agenda items petitions and letters okay just need a motion to receive and file a letter from mayor romic appointing stepen rnck to fill the vacant scene of a class commissioner suie yes mayor romic yes okay motion carries so we'll going into new business then you want we don't have any new business you want public comment first yeah that's what we'll do we will now have a public comment portion on the agenda if anybody who would like to address the commission please go to the podium state your name address your concerns and please limit your comments to approximately 5 minutes thank you evening happy New Year Tim span milville hat off the streets and roads I was out there with my snowblower and as fate would have it I just put it away and they came down my road and sow me in again it's what it's what happens um me anybody who hasn't sat plow truck for six or seven hours it's more than just playing with toggle you have to make sure you're not damaging uh public and private property so it's adting task um let's move on to Public Safety this was away for six days drove back into town New Year's Day from the high school to where I live there's three cops at the high school shining lights on the field looking like they were searching for something uh emergency lights are high in high in uh Maine two more cops come down Cedarville Road so there's a crisis in the city absolutely my hats off to all the emergency Personnel working on these conditions first question you mentioned you had officers working 18 hour shifts Y without a six without an hour break in between they get their break yes they get eight eight hours in between because I thought the labor law said they can only work 16 16 hours same thing with my EMTs okay but they're they're putting in 18 hours where is your Manning at at right now where's my Manpower at right now as far as how far are you down just under over 70 so you have what like 30 officers out uh we have had retirements which everybody knows of we have more retirements coming yes we've got officers out uh we've got officers sick uh what about officer suspended I'm not going to talk about officer suspended well I'm not asking for details I just one number is that part of the whole I have some officers suspended okay if it's that critical my question to you is have you reached out to any any other law enforcement agency formally I know we have a good relationship he must have left with Sheriff dado but formally in writing saying hey we're in a position where from what I understand even Chief Hoffman's been out patrolling the patrol car if it's that critical why aren't we reaching out and saying hey we need help finish up I'll finish up I'll answering that's that's you know I mean my hats are off to everybody who who does that job I did that job I didn't well I didn't Patrol streets but I went to a prison every day sometimes I supervised 179 inmates out in the open sometimes I didn't I also instructed uh institutional familiar Aces Asian classes going through all the training basically cies tactical training all that it's a daunting task to do that job I want them to get what they deserve as far as the race goes and get them on part with other agencies so we we can can retain qualified PE Personnel I don't think anybody's down on the police themselves um I think people have just fed up fed up with walking in and and hoping that they're not part of something that you know kally for instance you know my wife probably going to get in trouble for mentioning this walks into a store and sees some many shoplet and as she went and reported them and of course I chastised I said no it's not your job okay because you don't know what these people are I've heard people pulling up to the Queen Diner and I have people trying to gain entry into their vehicle okay when they complain to the management they said we call the police they don't do anything that I don't believe because if somebody tried to gain entrance into a vehicle that's basically breaking entering or or Ted carj or Ted mugging so I got to believe that they would take action on that M but my my question is why would you not seek help and it's it's no no no fall of anybody's but the city needs to be protected that's your title right public safety director so we need help if we're that critical why aren't we asking for help from other agency formally state police sheriff's department AG's office prosecutor in cand I mean why aren't we asking those people for for help that's that's very you know commissioner vice mayor Watson why don't we just hire Grant Rider cuz that's the main purpose of what you're doing right I me if you wanted to hire a grant Rider and we probably need one maybe maybe not that's that that would make more sense than what and and because you and and you do have the whole city employ all the city employees are working under a contract under no contract now I've been situations where I've gone two years without a contract I've also have a spouse who who was two years without the contract and actually by the time time they settled the contract they were ready to negotiate the next one so if that was the solution that's the solution that we need if that's something the city needs wouldn't have been easier just to hire a grant writer that just common sense that's all I mean sometimes you know you have to look at it like this be careful what you want because you may not like what you get so have a good night have a good year good evening Tim cardi again um mayor Ramen I don't I'm not I don't know if you know or not but like on the planning board and US earning board you have alternates so when a regular member leaves you can move your alternates up without just bringing somebody new in and jumping over your alternates cuz a lot of your alternates on both boards are probably trained already it's just word of advice especially since your alternates have been at the meetings and stuff and they kind of understand how it proceeds that's all thank you thank you Mr cardi I'm GNA try to do this with a baby in my hand so bear with me um my name is Jacob selwood I am the new uh post commander of the VFW for milville um to give some background on myself I am a Afghanistan combat veteran I was a medic attached to an infantry unit uh I am married to Dr Kimberly cwood who graduated from milville in 2012 um uh when I was in uh when she was in med school we lived in Kentucky I served as the post Commander there for two years in a row I made all state All-American post Commander um we started the first mental health 5K in Pikeville the town we lived in and we spent multiple holidays at the veterans transition Center I've even gone to DC sattin Mitch McConnell's office uh Paul uh ran Paul uh all those guys office to lobby for veterans rights uh predominately my most prolific one would be uh blue waterer Navy Act of 2019 uh I feel very happy that we got that through um that being said um a lot of you guys that know the American Legion and the VFW uh back on Buck Street the VFW was kind of put in a suspended status about two years ago so when we were presented with the opportunity to bring the VFW back to life we both jumped at it well not both but of the ones here because the other ones are all sick and everything with the flu that schemas would be going around and knocking everybody out um many of our new command board our veteran service officers already and if they're not they're just like me wanting to give back to the veteran community um unfortunately the standing uh rule with the American Legion and the VFW has been kind of dissolved uh we have removed all of our stuff from the American Legion uh at the legion's asking uh so right now we are homeless and starting a new uh life on the VFW and what we're here today asking for is to see if the city would have any type of uh building or space available for us to operate out of um we're not asking to operate a bar in Bingo this new generation of VFW members we're about serving veterans we're about having Fellowship we're about having a place that a veteran can go when they are in stressful times and need sorry that they need assistance or anything um so we just wanted to introduce ourselves uh we will be having a color guard to assist the city during parades and memorials and other stuff but uh I just wanted to put that out and uh I I'd appreciate any help that you guys would be able to lend to us if um you could see me after the meeting I have an idea already okay and there's also the leoy theater sent me some stuff that they're doing with vets so I'll exchange that information with you as well awesome I appreciate that a lot um one last topic um came down from the state VFW there are two resolutions in the state one is number 81 and the other is assembly concurrent resolution 58 they are to raise the tax deduction uh for veterans from $250 to $2,500 uh with a the local government will receive an annual net revenue gain from statut mandated reimbursements from the state equal to 102% of the amount of the veterans property tax deduction I have a copy of a um a proclamation um if you guys would be interested in uh endorsing that with us who would I give that to yeah I'll take it from you Jacob okay thank you guys I appreciate you bearing with me and for this entire time thank you that's a hard act to follow it's Tom ainty again um there's a lot of cry babies coming to this meeting that one's welcome anytime he's great um there was a mention of you know getting help from other agencies in the city of milville I've seen a lot of uh patrols and so forth by the sheriff's department uh unmark cars things going on um in the background uh I've spoke to police I've made a lot of reports made a lot of calls on different things that I've observed going on and so forth and so on um I was almost always invariably get quick response and cooperation and professionalism from our Police Department can't say enough good about them they are like one arm paper hangers there are so many things going on and so many priorities that sometimes the uh shoplifter the mundane guy roaming around this that and the other uh you know they have shootings they're going to um I would not want to be a cop in the city of mville out on Third and Oak surrounded by all the neighbors and whoever uh looking for evidence in the dark at night in the cold in the rain whatever I just their job I know but to be out there doing that short staffed um now the last thing we want to do is uh you know not give them the credit they deserve um I know their contract is up they should get their contract one way or another um hopefully with some increased Revenue that can happen um you know I I don't know enough background about their monies contracts whatever that's not my forte but uh I I got to say nothing but good things about the police department um and uh the the one thing that I can say is and and you brought up the amount of responses that you've had to have for EMS and so forth to get out and take care of people um you see the same repeat places over and over and over again I'm not going to name them wherever but you know almost daily twice a day there is a ambulance emergency vehicle sitting in the same place same time same bad Channel and my question is you know if somebody's driving through there during the day is there no way to move those people along that are out there uh I know they have problems you know I I I know that uh addiction is a horrible thing however if they're allowed to hang out and be enabled by other people coming and going not only people going I'll just say this to the liquor store but other people who deal in that area um you know I've personally witnessed drug deals going on in the city of mville in a number of places and I've had all I can do not to take my camera out and take pictures up it's it's crazy it's it's wide open and it's kind of the same areas um you know I'd like to see and I don't know who you would get or how you can do it but get somebody in there that can eliminate the situation that causes your problem to have as many calls you do and let them prioritize what they need to do with you know people that really want the help or need the help um that's pretty much all I have to say thank you see see no one else I will close the public comment portion oh we do the comments now the public comments closing comments of Commissioners commissioner hu yes uh I'm going to go in order Tim you know that some of the workings you know you were a prison guard uh first off you heard me uh thank Sheriff Donado because they are here other authorities are here I'm not going to get into that in a public forum uh and uh I will extend an opportunity to you in an invitation if you would like to sit down with the chief and myself we'd be more than welcome we welcoming to you to answer your questions to you uh some of the questions you asked are not something I'm going to address in an open form on the record uh and now some of your questions are going to fall in with everybody else also uh that's just where that I think you understand that but we do have people here and and as far as people being suspended and stuff that's not something we're going to speak about uh not in a public form like I say I guarantee if you want to sit down we'll sit we'll sit down with you you know uh you asked about reaching out to other departments that turns right around with reaching out for uh help uh there is not a do nothing attitude we're working I'm with I sit with the chief three four times a week trying to figure this out trying to do as much as we can do uh raises that sir is not up to me that sir is up to this entire commission we've been in the contract uh they've been out of contract for a year we all know that police tomorrow was here what four meetings AG go it's being worked on that's the best I can tell you and again can't be talked about in public uh that can't be talked about with a resident uh until it's done at all that's something we can't entertain next door Union negotiations uh I think that addresses your concerns if not I'll I'll see you know it's it's closing comments of Commissioners uh art the RC situation I'm going to take you up because that's what I was going to ask did we voted on a on a presentation uh take your time on the presentation show us what you've done I have those questions in my mind people have those questions in their mind they've talked not just recently it's a discussion that happens times it heats up when RC goes on to the agenda uh you mentioned up there you'd like to maybe give us a presentation I remember last year you gave us a real minor one uh maybe set it up with the commission and but not with the commission with the city clerk and such and uh give us a presentation put it back and put it back on the agenda uh Tim say Tim Cy same thing with with the negotiation yes uh negotiations are ongoing yes we need help we need officers uh we can't borrow officers when the other towns yeah they got more officers than we do but they're patrolling their town when we call for help we've had some shootings fin was right here that's that's the way it works uh Tom homeless and such when former commissioner rello was sitting up here with myself she ran to front on it we passed an ordinance where we can do something with the pan handlers and such uh it doesn't do any good when the courts hands are tied and they just turn them right back out we're trying uh that's not our decision to make uh I wish I a lot of people wish it was uh you know how that works absolutely top down uh the repeat offenders and such you know they county has uh resources for that uh we have we have people from the county in the police department but the people have to want the help uh the people need to be moved along yes but can we move them along that's how we would like to and how the public would like us to no then we're touching a situation where what do we wind up with more officers suspended believe me everybody over there wants to do what they can do I can remember the counties busted sits all around the city at times used to sit out in front of this city hole they used to put their chairs out against the brick wall there nobody would come there people that are going to them for resources usually they might have some issues and stuff legal wise they're not coming here when that's parked right in front of the police station I went out there and talk to ladies one day and I suggested that they find another place in town and you know where they want up that the parking L on the railroad track what we call 601 North High Street where the ambulance is always at three four five times a day they don't come back here the people they there to serve aren't going to go there looking for help cuz some of them might be being look for there that worked out well we moved that over there uh again we're trying uh we did do that ordinance soon as we did that ordinance the real Forum in town started tearing us up oh now you're going to arrest the homeless you're going to put the homeless in jail you're going to do this you're going we're trying bud you know we're trying you know me uh and with that uh maybe get some more snow this weekend thanks again to everybody in the city that worked uh I got to throw in a little bit of pitch for my fire department uh the fire department clears their own parking lots and everything else uh and they're out helping when they need when when they're needed also uh streets and roads they were hammering everybody was hammering uh once again thank you everybody thanks to the residents thanks for the thoughts and uh I hope I answer your questions as much as I can on my side progress you last commissioner KAS uh yes sorry just one thing I have to agree with um commissioner Watson I think we do need this city is in a lot of trouble and I don't see anything wrong with getting a grant writer to help along to find money I really truly do not so maybe we can work together there is a commission and come up with a different title a different name find something that we can get in here somebody that knows how to write grants it's not easy it is not easy trust me it's not easy but if there's money out there I'm all for free money also just I want to say um I got to experience firsthand yesterday how milville handled the snow I can only say great job not only to our streets and Roads city workers but to our city workers from the wood SE and parks department who stepped outside of their normal work routine and together as a team our city workers got milville roads plowed I'd like to thank the city residents of milville also your patience and your positive comments have been not unnoticed thank you I have passed them on to my streets and Roads um that makes them feel awesome I hope it does snow again Mr commissioner uh HT because I'm getting the booster seat because I want to ride in the truck next time I offered you a booster sheet with your chair so to all the milville or to all milville police Fire EMS city workers who worked together yesterday thank you because that's what milville makes a community thank you that's all thank you commissioner cin commissioner sui so let me first address building relationships with other organizations um I have some experience with several organizations uh so let's talk about the Authority or what was used to be called the ccia they have been involved in a few organ in a few uh projects in mville among them the college building which cost the citizens of mville $400,000 to build and has fallen short far short of its promises the library which cost the ciens of milville upfront cost $800,000 which didn't create any new jobs and adds no tax revenue and in fact the building is bigger requires more money for utilities and now the library needs more money to stay afloat they're going to run out another year or so and let's talk about my favorite one there was a company here called Intex some of you may have remembered it um some of you may also know about 25 airwork Street which is a vacant building at the airport so the last time I was in office Intex came to the city and said we want to buy that building we want to expand great what do you want for it we said 4 $50,000 they said sold the next thing you know one of my fellow Commissioners at the time said let's get the CCI involved they can get you tax credits okay so the ccia got involved and in order to get those tax credits they had to look in other areas anybody know where Intex is now or Intex moved to yes they moved to Galloway so be very careful what you're doing as far as having more other Personnel in here to get projects going and moving I think we did a we have a blueprint to do it without them among those projects are leavon as I mentioned CRP 15 Street agrar breaks ground next year this year it's 2025 now right so they're going to break ground this year so there are projects ongoing there are projects that we didn't need the Authority for we didn't need anybody else for um personally my goal was to try to get from this seat nav Avenue started I don't know where the rest of this commission's goals lie for the coming year I guess we will see uh grants yeah you know what all it's always great to get more grants but very few of them are free we have actually we have a grant sitting in the bank now a historic pres preservation Grant I think there's about 500 Grand sitting in there but it's got to be used to restore a historic building and it's matching funds required so that's why it's still sitting in the bank we get a lot of Grants we really do I wish we got more we could always use more so if we can get a grant writer to do more great we had people that would that volunteered to rate grants for us for nothing until it came time to rate the grants and then they never showed up so I'm sure we if we want one we're going to have to pay one we're going to have to be very careful on the ones that we accept because if we get into a a place where we have to have matching funds you know the font print is very very important so uh you know I hope to hear about your goals and your you know what you intend to accomplish this last year going in and we'll see how it goes thank you thank you commissioner suie BL names VI mayor Watson you always got to try to think of what you're going to say once you say it you can't take it back you got to be careful what you say because then you can put the city at risk of litigation there's a lot I want to say about the obstruction that uh I experienced here um but that just just creates turmoil and argument and doesn't make any kind of progress and I hate to uh put forth any effort to investigating and trying to um you know put together U you know emails or you know establish any kind of thing to you make another commissioner look B it's not how i' like to do things as far as moving forward for this year um you nav Avenue was definitely something that I wanted to get more involved with and um you know doing the project to run water and sewer down to Laurel Lake something else that I really wanted to get more involved with um two of those very large projects you know had to do with just being resourceful and knowing people knowing people from the DP knowing people from the New Jersey Department of Transportation knowing uh government officials in surrounding areas helping those surrounding areas achieve and get grants not only for the city of milville but somehow incorporate helping those townships and um find the same money that are available to us to help put projects together and maybe collaborate um and disposition that you know I presented for the salary ordinance was a key component in that and it's wasn't voted for which is all right so take a step back regroup and we'll move forward um you know as far as taking more than what I expected uh I think this this whole journey here for the past couple years has been that uh it's kind of tough to bounce out a full-time job and also being Incorporated with the city but doing the best I have a lot invested in the city uh maybe not you know out of my wallet but you know from the heart kind of deal so I can tell you the best interest and decisions I make are for the city of mville so just go from there thank you thank you VI mayor Watson Mr cardi regarding uh your comment on planning and zoning boards uh you know very well because you are on the zoning board that you are missing your chairman and vice chairman you will be very delighted that those two new seats will be coming from the members and alternates that are in there planning board um I lost a lot of members quickly either a through resignation or B they didn't want to go uh anymore uh and on their term their term ended and they they committed their 10 plus 15 plus years and uh truly became a snowbird even though they were playing in the snow the other day um so I stole an somebody from the zoning board moved them over seats need to get filled somebody else is coming to back to the zoning board because we need them filled because we have a lot of big business as you know coming in here an important product projects um through the city like for instance with upcoming updates project we call it mville PD 47 there's a new development of businesses and stores that are coming to the corner of an already congested area on South yes on North 47 where there is trees right now they're going to build it up create a lot more businesses and it will be good for the city of milville that's one of the main one of the projects going on obviously you can hear it's public information that we issued our letter of non-renewal to the drba that is a process it's a long enduring process um I don't want to skip uh Mr southernland I was fortunate enough to meet you on Saturday uh I look forward to working with you and as commissioner suie said um on getting you a home here back again in the City of Melville for mville veterans Foreign Wars and uh I will get this to uh our Senator I am blanking on names um Mr Testa Michael Testa um and give us our input on this on these resolutions here uh that you have set forth there's a lot that the city will over overcome overtake in 2025 my fellow Commissioners have alluded to that um you see the water sewer project uh for Laura Lake Paving has also been happening um it's truly amazing to see what we can do when we all work together and come along as a group for the city of mville you know we we're all here as Commissioners and all here to do our jobs and to work together uh to make those jobs easier but to help out our staff you're exactly right we have professional staff here in place to do their jobs for their jobs they need management and oversight that's why we're in charge of our departments we oversee our departments I look forward have a better more detailed plan I always give the every city is coming up with their uh as I call it the State of the Union but the state state of the city address uh our our other uh real problem with names and Boards today our Commerce board will be handling that that's a great event to go to um vent does theirs Briton does their um we all collectively work together with the city with with with in Cumberland County here I work together great with mayor fucci I know mayor Kelly in Briton I know mayor Ken Wen um and all with our our Senators our assemblymen our County Commissioners as well things will get done with help that is needed through the city of mville with our partners in other elected positions resolution okay so we have a res olution authorizing a Clos session for the following matter non-renewal of the ground lease with the drba milville airport Capital program under attorney client privilege and the deliberative process the resolution okay okay there you go Motion in a second close session roll call please commissioner huitt yes Vice May Watson yes commissioner casabon yes commissioner sui yes mayor romc yes motion carries [Music] next
