here testing testing testing the Jen Jen do you want three or two just two two the Rover does anybody else want to speak and a Trevor you said no no Walkman tonight not you roll call M kigo here M Karo here Dr abson Hayden here M gunderman absent M Kay ABS M Morana Mr Walsh is absent we have a Corum join me in like salute to the flag of the United States of America and to for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liy and justice for all this is a public meeting of the Board of Education of the buau of New Providence adequate notice of this meeting has been given in accordance with PL 1975 chapter 231 in that a notice was made in conformance with Section 13 of the ACT whenever the business of the board requires it to convene to close session the session will begin no later than 9:30 p.m. at the conclusion of the need for closed session the board will reconvene to the public portion of the meeting at that time the board will complete any other business that may be before it and the public will then be given the opportunity to be heard before the meeting is adjourned uh Dr melli um I have no comments for this evening um but I will turn it over to you thank you Miss kukar and good evening everyone um we have a little bit of a shift from our our planned agenda for tonight we are going to go through all of our goals and objectives for 23 24 uh but we had some really exciting news come to the high school over the past couple of days and um we were made aware of all the exciting news and accomplishments of our students and our staff uh on the stem front so I thought it was um appropriate since we had a meeting tonight to give our students and our staff the opportunity to share uh their successes so without further Ado I'm going to pass it over to uh Mrs PT Mrs fince and Mrs rety to talk about um the the most recent stem accomplishments and we have a number of our students here tonight too are also going to present uh so without further Ado welcome thank you so much for the warm welcome and we're so excited to be here um I'm Jennifer pasit I am the stem department head um for our district and I am thrilled to lead this wonderful team of Educators um not all Educators could make it here tonight but I do have um two very special members of our stem club team Rachel fince and uh suan Betsy can you please give them a round of applause they have certainly earned your applause because we uh earned a record number of trophies this year which I'm excited to tell you about um here are some of of our students engaged in stem activities um you could see that we have a stem Community um and that we bring stem outside the walls of the classroom um so while I'm chatting a little bit about our stem program and how these activities uh fit in with our curriculum and personalized learning and uh extracurriculars I'd love to have our students join us UPF front would you guys mind coming up front just to uh present yourselves and our students will be presenting as well um so we truly have an integrated program here um at New Providence we start from kindergarten go all the way up to 12 and we have specific stem programming um that is part of our curriculum we did have a uh strategic initiative a Str strategic planning initiative that started in 2015 and by 2017 we had the infrastructure and the curricular programming to bring a dedicated stem program to the community um we promote uh outside uh advancements for our students and career Explorations um and so the members of our team here today uh presented at um TSA the uh technology Student Association and they also participated in um a competition called teams so that's going to get confusing later on um also participate in Outreach we have guest speakers come in and they actually support the community as well um bringing stem to uh younger students and working down at the elementary school so we have a truly integrated program here um I would like to introduce who's here today I need to see their faces um Karina and Rah and Brandon manili and Brandon Lee and Amber Lou and AJ Bole and Matteo agesta and Elijah and Trevor thank you so much for being here some of these members participated in that team's competition this is a three-part competition first they have to design and build a structure based on the theme then they need to take a multiple choice test that is related to a theme and then they need to do research and an essay um related to the theme we had a 108 teams competing in New Jersey we the most competitive of all the states in the union 108 teams competing New Providence are very wonderful District small we sent eight of those 108 teams to the competition and I will tell you four yeah that's definitely worthy of Applause four of our eight teams made it to national competition and they will be going to Orlando at the end of June so that definitely deserves a round of applause um teams is not the only competition we compete in um but here's our winning national teams some students participating you see Karina there uh great great times Mato is all the way in the back um we also compete in TSA the technology Student Association this uh organization really promotes leadership for our students career opportunities for our students engaging and you can see a very wide wide range of activities that we would consider stem activities there's 40 programs that TSA offers we compete in 29 of them so only 11 to go um you can see that we uh placed nationally in the activities that have that little trophy designation next to it so we did pretty well here and I'm going to have the students um talk about some of their uh winning moments at TSA and uh I think what you're seeing from these photographs is like stem is rigorous science technology you know math engineering like we get rid nree but you can see we're like a family and we're really having fun with it and I think the students really enjoy um engaging in stem in a way that doesn't feel burdensome it's really important to love what you do and and you can tell that we love what we do um before I have them talk about their awesome projects I just wanted to let you know um Rohan Karina Cleo Brandon Sean and ROM and also Brandon man who's here but wasn't present for this picture were inducted into this uh technology Student Association um honor program so I just want to give them a round of applause before we moov on um um so I am going to go ahead and pass the microphone to Rah and Karina who won first place in animatronics and systems control technology and guys tell me when you want me to hit this video of your animatronics actually working and I will do so just like start you want to start it now yeah all right uh I guess I'll go first um basically we were able to make this by interfacing like an Arduino which is hidden behind the black box up there to a Vex brain down there uh basically it interfaces the speakers that we have through the Arduino with a DF player mini and then down here we have all the power sent to our Motors to see like the cool arm motion you're doing there and then hidden behind that is like the power cable and um the pneumatics that Karina will talk about so with the flap that flipped up in the beginning that was powered by pneumatics which is basically pushing compressed air into Pistons um that was part of our requirements and we also included it to help with our Mars environment for the actual Rover itself we combined Vex parts and wood and also 3D printed pieces to make a realistic looking uh representation of the perseverance Rover and up there you can see the Ingenuity helicopter that was also 3D printed okay thank you so much yeah can you explain a little bit about um the competition and what you were prompted to do yeah so um our competition was animatronics and the prompt was to create an exhibit that would be featured in a history of Space Museum and we decided to choose the perseverance Mission because of its accomplishments and also Ingenuity being the first instance of power flight on an planet to do system same thing okay all right um yeah okay uh we we also got first in another competition called systems control technology uh basically for that we had to make a sorting machine that would distinguish between different size chicken nuggets and chicken strips in this case 3D printed rectangles uh but basically um we had to make a detection system that would be able to distinguish between larger and smaller rectangles and put them in its respective boxes uh the criteria for that was to do it in a two foot by like two foot space and we were graded on how fast we' be able to do them as well um to actually sort the chicken nuggets versus chicken striips we used three distance sensors and had an algorithm um to sense how many distance sensors were being activated at a time and that would determine the length of the chicken product which would help it sort it into the different containers and we also used variables to keep track of how many chicken products were being sorted wow that yeah look yeah definitely worthy of Applause that is so incredible um I'm sorry it's I triggered the video to go again it's just so cool I can't even stop watching it um now now we're going to have AJ Bole talk about his first place win in data science all right so it is such a pleasure to speak to all of you today so essentially to give you some background information um data science and analytics is a competition within TSA where members like um me and nille are essentially prompted to develop a project that applies data science to look into a societal issue so so for my project last year um leading off of last year where I competed in Nationals and dived into how like inauthentic Behavior online exacerbated um anti-Semitism specifically surrounding like the acquisition of Twitter this year I decided to look into the issue of online activity specifically and authentic activity resulting in Market manipulation so this was following up at research that I think I discussed earlier in the year that was featured in um mediums like CNBC and Forbes and essentially the project the gist of it was that now more than ever we're in an era where people's personal Investments are becoming really critical to their Futures if you're thinking about retirement and whatnot because systems like social security for example are set to potentially run out by 2035 and other system specifically like thinking of Pensions are not as prevalent in the modern world so in my project I essentially conducted a case study where I analyzed over four million tweets that I scraped and also combined it with cryptocurrency price data I was able to obtain surrounding a few altcoins that were con suspect to be like subject to insider trading by FTX which was a firm that recently went under in 2022 due to fraud and and its sister company Alam research so to simplify um all of the weird math stuff that I essentially dived into the ultimate um result was that I was able to prove that the volume of the social media activity that you'd see surrounding these coins specifically the inauthentic activity which through like again weird mathematical stuff they won't get into which are suspect like of these accounts that are suspected to be Bots it is predictive of prices to a obscenely statistically significant like extent to the extent that there is like less than a one in a million chance that all of this could be by chance so um essentially like as I said it was diving into now more than ever we have all this social media activity that is driving prices in these coins which more people are investing into for their livelihoods and if you're looking into the future it certainly is a concern because only more people are going to invest in cryptocurrencies and this isn't limited to altcoins it's we've also seen this issue with so many stocks in the real world so I know I've been yapping a bit but essentially that was the gist of my data science project this [Applause] year we also have nille sasta here to present on his third place data science project what uh thank you what Miss passw over there won't tell you is that uh the spot for data science for my participation actually opened up I think a couple hours before uh my deadline is when I started this project um so I got roughly four hours to combine data you know my analysis everything else and compile it all into a you know coherent project and submit it by 1159 to my amazing advisers over there who somehow managed to get it into the technology Student Association so um in recent you know let's say the past five years Industries have been changing due to changes in data science one of the biggest fastest growing fields that we uh we are addressing today and so I decided to do my project on something that I'm passionate about pursuing in college which is generative Ai and more specifically how it's corrupt and it's data it's it's everything is based off of data generative AI is trained on that data right so I did gender and racial uh bias and stereotyping and generative applications such as uh chat gbts d e which is its image generation or Google's Vortex or gemini or stuff like that and I sort of explored how you know it perceives things like the wage Gap or explains you know Concepts differently based on race socioeconomic status different things like that and analyzed that in my paper and you know despite my time constraint I did manage to pull together a pretty decent project I'm uh happy to have the chance the second year in the row to uh you know better my project submitt it for Nationals this year this will be my first time in high school despite the chance last year to participate in TSA Nationals and I'm really proud of this whole group and can't wait to [Applause] continue Nelle admit it last time you won in data science how many hours did you turn out that project in yeah yeah so nil is is a a a pretty uh pretty capable and smart dude um vck would you like to present on software development great do it's on all right uh hello today um it's adri and I we play first in software development and um I could start off on what our project was about um and then we could go into more technical conceptual things um what the interview um held for us and you know some of our challenges sound good all right so our app codiv verse um it helped students especially of lower income families and those that cannot afford um to buy you know textbooks um afford to buy laptops and other devices to access a platform that's very similar to dualingo to learn basic programming so whether this is through small lessons challenges um and the such we gamified our application to make sure that these students would be able to learn computer science in a very accessible way yeah all right so thank you valck um to add on a little bit data science is a lot like the software development competition in that we're seeking to address a societal issue and it's fairly open-ended in that each year there is no prompt and really it's just our goal to create something that will better Society so as valck said we are really focusing on creating a app which we admittedly presented on a laptop that essentially um taught students how to code and took a step Beyond traditional block coding which we honestly saw a bit of a problem with because a lot of the time before students come to high school the only like exposure they have to programming is with all these blocks that don't have anything that closely resemble a programming language and I I remember that when I actually got into programming in Middle School like the jump between that block coding and like actually like writing stuff out in python for example felt like so intimidating that we really wanted to bridge that Gap with content that sort of like bridged easier block coding with actual like learning content about these programming languages such that they could write code they could experiment with code they can see how it will run and so much more so beyond having a variety of interactive lessons activities projects and assessments embedded into our app we also integrated a large language model um we actually did two of them so one of them was the based on the Stanford question answering data set and we essentially plugged in all of the content of our app into this large language model such that we could have it respond to the users's questions based on what our app explicitly tells them but then beyond that because we ultimately can't like firste every single question that may be asked we also integrated a second model um which is a variant of Microsoft's three billion parameter orer Orca AI model to answer um all questions about computer science regardless of language or even complexity so as valck said we worked to gamify it and like really pushed to ensure that it was animated and colorful and something that kids would really like to use and we're all really excited to we're both really excited if he's coming he may not come the Nationals but we're excited to present it um down in Orlando and see what we can do to improve it and sort of following up on what nille said we all greatly appreciate the work of our advisers like I could not tell you how much that Miss fence especially has like sacrificed and like just pushed to get us to like submit our projects despite how chaotic and despite how much we may or may not tend to procrastinate so we're all really excited and it was such a pleasure this year and there may be a video of me getting pied in the face making the rounds so if you see that yeah I encourage everybody to follow uh NP stem on Instagram we got some pretty good stuff out there pretty funny uh content um AJ's uh referring to the fact that that um these individuals standing up here before you raised the most money for the American Cancer Society out of every other team in the entire state so that is pretty huge and and that's why AJ got a pie in the face you win some you lose some um oh that's right Sean and uh and uh Sebastian that's right that's right speaking of Sebastian here he is looking terribly sad about his first place win in virtual reality Trevor is also down there you feel like chatting Trevor yeah okay it's pretty impressive um so our task was to uh teach children young children how to lead a healthy life and things like that so we decided through the medium of virtual reality so we decided to focus on the pillars of Fitness being strength endurance uh cardiovascular health and flexibility there was one more but sounded like one of the other ones um so so our program used a little dude VR dude and he would it would go through just these body weight exercises keeping it simple no extra equipment so that children could see it not have to read anything not have to like have some higher level of being able to understand what's going on just be B to see what's going on and being able to mimic it so they did some body weight workouts like push-ups squats lunches simple things like that and then some more flexibility stuff through yoga like I forget what the poses were called but I I did some stuff with that so we we made a little yoga routine for it to follow and um in this VR world the player could just select through all these different exercises and then start it then follow through with it for about 20 seconds 20 30 seconds depending on the exercise and uh we said that it was good because not only could they get it through the application but they could also carry that into just whenever if they have some something that they don't really want to be like focusing on whatever they need a quick brain break they can do a little bit of physicalness get that geez blood flowing get the everything going just little little bit of a Brain Break um so yeah that's incredible Trevor um Trevor did you know how to use this program before you started this project but like self-taught on demand just to compete in this so this is definitely personalized learning outside the walls of a New Providence High School great job Trevor um we don't have um Connor and Adam here who are the writers of um circus Tweed who that won second in children's stories um other team members included Anna and Veronica and Benny who is uh Brandon's brother and Michael Bradford um and this is a picture of the students reading the actual book at the competition which is was a great adventure book so artistic it really uh was multifaceted and uh Elijah is here but boy Elijah building a dragster really seems to agid you um would you talk a little bit about your dragster design thanks so I made a dragster and I wasn't there but Mr bareta was so that's why I car over there so I had to carve out like a dragster out of like this like block of wood and it's going to be like propelled by like a CO2 cartridge so it's like attached to the string and like it's supposed to like go vom right and and I wasn't there cuz like you know I knew I was going to win so I didn't have to show up um yeah that's kind of it yeah second place is pretty VY good job Elijah um third place win Optical engineering we have Matteo here Matteo please share about this project what was the challenge and how did you solve it so the challenge was that for some people who can't see properly who have poor vision sometimes they have issues reading menus in restaurants in dim lighting so what we had to do was we had to design a light that would be able to switch to a bright mode that would enable people with poor vision to read menus when the light is dim so what we did was we decided to make a light that would switch between two modes using Color filters so the light would be originally white but we would use a color filter to change the temperature of the color and by changing the temperature of the color we could effectively change by changing the temperature of the light we could effectively change the color of the light itself and it transformed from a wet light to a nice dim bious light which can help people see in addition we also slanted the lights down so that instead of being right in their face it would actually be on the menu so we did take into consideration some other things like comfort and reliability and overall the project was really good we ended up getting third place which is nice so that's pretty much congratulations mat and to your teammate Joseph who can be here tonight um up next is uh Trevor I don't know Queen in House at TSA third place in digital video production uh the video we had to make was um The Prompt was a high fantasy video three minutes long left a lot of room for creativity so we our group had a lot of fun with it we had a little night guy go on at Adventure slay a dragon rescue a princess all that fun stuff we spent a Day filming in the woods a couple days editing just overall very fun process and paid off I like fun and stem excellent job an and Veronica were also on his team but couldn't be here tonight um I was proud to be the adviser for Joe um he built this plane that he's holding in his hand with balwood and myar um the the adventure in this was building a plane that could sustain flight for the longest period of time um only propelled by a a wound elastic band um so he was tasked with that in the trials in our high school gym he was getting that plane to sustain um in excess of two minutes of flight circulating um around the gym so it's pretty impressive that he built that with his own hands but Joe couldn't be here tonight but let's applaud him anyway thank you so much students for joining us here tonight we applaud you your extracurricular just like you go to ROM you're here straight from track right you go to school all day you're you're up doing your academic work but you're also engaging in these adventures and I so appreciate your hard work you make us so proud here at New Providence so thank you so much to all the Educators who support them um and thank you students for your exceptionalism we applaud you thanks so much um I just wanted to highlight I can't I can't make it any better it's just great as it is um but New Providence actually took home um the second most overall trophies at this competition um I think the number is 177,000 students from New Jersey competed there's going to be over 300,000 students are part of this Association so the fact that um we came in second with the most overall trophies is just an amazing accomplishment um and it's because of the students that stand here in front of you today um we were also tied for first and the most first place trophies so um huge accomplishments from our very small District um that we're competing with um you know mostly at the top here you'll see vocational schools um who might have different criteria for entry and uh might be larger and have uh larger facilities than ours so I'm very proud of our work um we are looking I mean there's still 11 of these competitions left that we can bring home trophies for so uh we're definitely looking to bring more on board to our programming um so I wanted to close with a a plea uh just or encouragement to wear some stem gear and support us out in the public because uh we're really doing a great job we're going to Nationals this year um these things are uh definitely costly to run robotics we hope to bring drones on board drones uh so uh we are definitely doing all that we can to support our stem students in their Pursuits of Excellence thank you so much [Applause] before we uh go on to the the next presentation I just want to say thank you to all the students who are here this evening as well as the uh the staff and I just want to connect some dots for the board as well as um our staff and our community um this right this doesn't just happen overnight um this is a collection of efforts by this community for the past nine years if if some of you may recall that back in 2015 when we worked on strategic planning as a community initiative we had about 10 evenings with a whole host of different topics in each of those evenings to collect information and input from the community about what they wanted to see in their schools and we had a specific night just on stem but regardless each of those evenings regardless what the topic was the conversation came back to stem and there was such an interest and it was interesting because is the community kind of if you think back in terms of historically was kind of built on Bill labs and so we've always had a lot of scientists and math and Engineering folks in the community and we've always been very strong on math and science but there was really a compelling push at that time to drive the opportunities even more so within our schools k12 and so after that strategic planning process the board and the community made a significant investment in terms of infrastructure St St courses and that occurred over the course of probably three or four years um and then with respect to the board and the administration and many of the people sitting around this table Mr Keeny Dr zerle myself some of the board members Mr Testa um and uh Miss certainly Mr Henry as high school principal we've continued to work at this and it again it's not something that happens overnight it's a collection of efforts in terms of Financial Resources infrastructure developing courses hiring staff that have the um Concepts and the um the background and the content knowledge and then developing those relationships with students building on to the co-curricular activities having these types of clubs obviously you could see the relationships that exist between our students uh and and the staff but again when we were starting this there were some initial requests to start stem and I kind of laugh at this from the perspective of can you guys just get some Lego kits and put them in the media center and have the kids get together after school and we we laughed because we said well that's not really sustainable and that's not stem and that just is a fun project but we're going to invest in this much more so but it's just going to take time and so in as much as um sometimes things may not seem as they are I think tonight was really a collection of everybody's efforts in the community to to really make uh the investment come to life and now it is and you can see the fruit of everyone's labor and I just hope that with tonight's presentation more members of the community more students uh more families can see the landscape and the infrastructure uh and the curriculum that has been built and that if you really want to pursue quite frankly anything in college new Province High School is the place to come and you certainly will be successful if you ply yourself uh and make the best use of it so again I just want to thank the community I want to thank the board Administration the parents students everybody who has committed to this project that certainly has been uh very rewarding and tonight was really um just uh superb so thank you I don't know Dr zerle or Mr Keeny if you have any thoughts because I know you are heavily involved in this with me on this Venture I'd just like to say how proud I am um as I said this afternoon when we did have an email going around about all the accolades of the students that nine years ago when we set out I mean this is what we dreamed of and and it has come true um but it most certainly has come true because of the teachers Dedication that you saw up here this evening as well as all of the students who are really um intrigued to have different opportunities and different ways to think outside of the classroom um so I just I think it's amazing and and Mr Keeny was a very very large part back when we started our stem initiative after strategic planning um we did actually the board um agreed to hire a stem department head and Mr Keeny was that stem department head and really built out that K12 stem program really with the end in mind starting with the high school and then going down into the elementary schools and you know i' just like to also highlight for the board that there are not many school districts that offer k6 students a stem opportunity and we do and those stem opportunities even at those Elementary levels because I have been in those classrooms to observe the projects and the design challenges that they have those students doing are just amazing um so I give kudos to everyone and I think it's it's very impressive because one of the one of the programs that was affected most by covid were the were the stem programs because there was none of these competitions there was none of the field trips there was none of the ability to get together and participate in compet I so to see it rebounding like that and the work of the advisor been particularly impressive so well done to everyone there any uh questions from any of the board members not a question but like when I was their age the concept of like a VHS tape goes to DVD that was all I could wrap my head around so seeing this is like really messing with my brain and I just I feel very dumb and very honored at the same time to see it right I'm just beyond impressed and want to know where and how we can invest in some of this for the future and I'd really like to know what AJ's portfolio looks like I think all of them are going to be very successful in their careers okay um Mrs Garo are we okay with moving on to goals all right great do uh the members of the board that are here tonight have your goals great all right so um for for everyone um I want to just kind of start with how the goal process uh works and um where all of our annual goals are derived from so quickly just want to review in terms of we just mentioned strategic planning uh in 2020 was the last time we engaged in strategic planning and we developed long- range goals as a result of that input session from the community uh these are those eight goals um they are broad overarching goals but essentially every that we have been working on over the past five years come from these broad eight strategic goals subsequent to that um and all this information is on the website so if anyone wants to see it post uh tonight's meeting please feel free to access it on the website um these are the um annual objectives uh that come under the eight broad goals that I just shared with you and um there are the two pages of them and we've broken them into um annual objectives based on the color coding there and so um what you will see here are um a handful of objectives that still need to be addressed uh into the 2425 school year and so more to come for the um with respect to the administration the board on that um but in terms of what we're going to review tonight let's talk about our annual board goals and the various committee goals um that you have in front of you so I'm going to start with the the overarching board goals uh the first one is evaluate the 2425 uh school calendar for possible revisions and considerations as most of you know we've had a separate ad hoc Committee of the board who've been working diligently on this for the past year I believe there were 10 meetings uh that took place and we were able to develop a new 2425 calendar and then a subsequent calendar for 2526 both those calendars on the website there are a number of changes uh that occurred with those calendar revisions as well terms of number two um monitor New Jersey QC process and evaluate the results I was in contact today with our County Superintendent they have not yet completed all of the work on their end uh to provide us with their scores hopefully we'll have them by the end of the month it sounds like uh they're just having some delays um on the fiscal front because they are down one of their employees but they have someone from another County who will be helping them out and hopefully we'll get that information shortly uh with respect to number three continue to monitor enrollment projections ongoing housing updates and the redistricting plan at the elementary schools as I from last week we did receive the updated report from Dr grip um for that demographic study and we shared all those results uh last week and our plan to continue with the redistricting process for September 24 is in place so um certainly we have accomplished this goal as well in terms of uh the negotiation process with teachers secretaries and the maintenance and custodial groups at this point the board has been working with those groups um the secretaries at this point have a tenative agreement with the board they'll continue to work toward that end the maintenance and custodial staff will be meeting with the board next week and the board has been working with the teachers for the past several months and they have a meeting coming up in a week and so hopefully we'll wrap up those negotiations as well before the end of the the school year next is the uh number five in terms of developing the budget within cap uh certainly we've accomplished that and that budget was approved by the county office and then subsequently presented and approved last week by the Board of Ed uh next meeting on May 29th uh Dr Zury and Mr Keeny will be presenting the outcomes from our d EI report and so uh the committee and both of them have been working to that end all year with the committee and so lots of good information and a plan and a project will uh set forth at next uh month's meeting so we look forward to that and then obviously with Dr zury's appointment last week uh the the board completed the superintendent search so with respect to those goals um we're in a good spot in terms of the committee goals curriculum instruction and Technology we'll move on to those U monitor the new uh Middle School bell schedule evaluate potential new mono offerings we've talked about that going back to the middle of the Year Mr Henry and his staff have been working hard toward that end and we've successfully accomplished that uh similarly with full day kindergarten we implemented that this year and that has um received a lot of accolades and um a lot of good progress there with respect to the district's classroom design project and evaluating new furniture and the use of current space and enhanced personalized learning goal as well as the monitoring of the implementation of personalized learning models throughout the district Mr Keeny if you don't mind you want to just give the board an update us to where we are on those items thank you Dr melli um the personalized learning has been in the aprs for all our teachers this year and will continue to be next year when we originally put together the plan for personalized learning it was a one two-year uh project we're expanding that out to three to five years because it's just such an important concept such an important um instruction methodology for us to continue to emphasize and to continue to work on so we are seeing success in the classroom teachers are trying a whole variety of different things and we continue with our implementation John you want to just hit the math curriculum too okay six yeah as Dr melli said we also have the monitoring of the new K through six Math curriculum as you know the ready program came in at the start of this year um it's been very well received by the teachers obviously when we start any initiative teachers are a little bit tentative but they are now getting used to the program and starting to make it their own when we look at the statistics for the use of you may remember the my path part of the curriculum which was a differentiated personalized part of it um when we look at the statistics for how much that's being used we're seeing some really high numbers for that so teachers are getting used to doing that and using that uh and we continue to analyze the diagnostic data that we're getting on a regular basis to identify areas where we need to concentrate instruction um so overall working very very well teachers are happy um students are getting used to the new way of teaching and we're using the data to identify those areas of concern John while you're um at it you want to just talk a little bit about where we landed with Esser and the math position and and the like yes so as you know we had the Yesa we did for the uh acceleration learning we bought in the math specialist two years ago we did not renew that position this year because the math specialist decided to take a different direction but we did use that funding to bring in I ready Consultants on a regular basis to coach the teachers so um in May halfway through May is the fourth time they will be coming into the district they have been very impressed with the way we are implementing the I ready math program to the extent where they've actually provided us with some free professional development opportunities because they really want to promote the way we're using the data and the analysis of the data and the feedback that we're giving to our teachers and how they're using that data so um overall it's been implemented very well and and we have not missed to having the the math coach because we've we've gone an alternative route thank you Mr Kenny Dr zerel you want to hit on DEA sure um so as you know next well this month at the end of the month we will be presenting on Dei and the findings of the report and a part of our presentation will be to speak about the goals moving forward and the Equity road map moving forward however um we did during the annual performance reviews for our teachers which are going on right now until May 15 um we did place a Dei goal within um their aprs so that um all of our teachers are aware that next year we will be beginning to fulfill the goals um that have come out from our committee as well as our Dei um landscape thank you Dr zer um with respect to the next committee's goals Finance facilities Safety and Security as I already indicated we uh were able to put together the next year's budget within Camp um as the board and the committee know we completed all of our referendum projects for summer of 23 uh in a timely fashion and within budget and the big one is this summer and working on the HVAC project Mr Testa if you wanted to kind of give a little uh little tidbit on where we are with the the HVAC project um sure uh currently we are in the phase of they're doing Make Ready work uh the contractor has been in the district for quite some time um working at each of the buildings um getting ready for the summer we actually received some of the equipment already that you could see it staged at some of the schools um and we'll be ready to roll in the summer uh we have a meeting coming up uh in the next week or two we're going to walk the buildings with the contractor and The Architects to uh identify what rooms have to be cleaned out in total which are mostly at Roberts um and have a game plan so um we can move forward at the end of June and as everyone uh realizes that all the buildings will be closed um we will have the high school open for a short period of time for our student athletes um for one part of the building uh but we will be closed uh for the whole summer so more to come thank you Mr Tesa and then the uh the last two objectives here we spoke about out already um we'll move on to personal management and communication as you know we did update the communications plan at the beginning of the year with the committee and uh some other things came as a result of that with respect to the calendar um Mr Keeny you want to talk a little bit about professional development thank you Dr melli we continue to redesign our professional development program to provide our teachers the support so that they can positively affect student achievement consequently for the last couple of years we've been working on our August PD days to make sure that we are the the teachers are fully prepared for the start of school year uh fully prepared to initiate to to participating the initiatives and to to affect student achievement in that way this year we introduced the ispp days the in school professional planning days which teachers have used a tremendous amount to to collaborate and communicate with each other and to work on a whole variety of different things uh so they are again positively affecting student achievement and then as Dr Mell Dr melli mentioned one we also have a the Readjustment of our calendar so that we have now four early dismissal days which are going to be used for professional development and we're in the process of planning all of those days uh for next year so that we can make sure that we have a coordinated uh professional development plan which addresses all the teachers and the students needs thank you Mr keny Dr zerle you want to touch on the next bullet point here sure um so we have moved our website as you could probably see when you do um go to visit our website um from Blackboard which did sell to final site so we are currently um working out some of the Kinks some of the links are still broken but miss mangle is um on top of that and making sure that we're updating it um as needed within that um cell we also last year uh knew that we needed to start to uh become ADA Compliant on our website so a Miss mangle was able to contract with a third party mono who um we have contracted with on an annual basis and their services are really twofold so um it is a tool um that will scan our entire uh site on a weekly basis um and it does send Miss mangle report of anything that is not user accessible um it also runs checks on any of the broken links as well so that Miss mangle could take a look at those also um the next time you are on the website if you go to the bottom right hand I'm sorry leftand corner there's a purple icon and if you click on that it will show you all the accessibility features so things such as font size and the like um there's several of those so we are currently up toate an ADA Compliant and with our thirdparty vendor we will continue to be um ADA Compliant moving into next year and the years ahead and thank you Miss mangle thank you Katie are there any uh questions from board members or thoughts or ideas or concepts or more specificity that you need on any of the particular goals or the objectives or like that gonna okay um Dr Sero you want to talk a little bit about um plan moving forward for the establishment of new goals um thank you doc um Dr Michelli so moving forward um between now and I would say about June 15th I'd like the committee chairs and I will send out an email um to set a date so that um I could meet and um with the committee chair I'm sorry with the Committees in order to uh take a look at currently what the strategic planning goals are in our large plan and our large chart for 2425 and to revise and modify those as needed and then um The Next Step would be to com um to complete the committee goals um so that we could have a tenative uh draft of what those committee goals would be um we would also then work through the Committees and with uh Miss kakaro on what the board goals will be for the 2425 school year So the plan would be over the next month and a half to try to get some of that work done or all of that work done um so that at our June 27th meeting we can publicly discuss what those tentative goals are going to be by committee as well as the full board um in preparation for our July meeting to have final approval on those for the beginning of the school year so I will be emailing um all the committee chairs I'll do that tomorrow morning and I most certainly can work with you to find um dates that we get on the calendar so that we can start meeting thank you Dr zerle Mrs kukar that's all we have thank you Dr melli uh now is an opportunity for the public to be heard on any specific agenda item uh seeing none I declare the public portion
