from Mano and uh before we bring them up and miss boomhower her their teacher uh I just want to just make a quick statement realize you know these young these all these students are being you know honored here at the council meeting you know a lot of times we bring up a lot of sports teams and everything else like that the first time we're bringing academics up here and I think it's important to honor these individuals because Oakland is Oakland with all the schools and everything else so we're one Community to really then this is what really makes Oakland Great Valley Valley I'm sorry Valley Middle so right now we have uh the students of Valley Middle School sixth grade gifted and talented class participate in the fall 2024 thinking cap Bowl quiz students took an online computer test of 100 multiple choice questions and areas covered included math geography government Sports spelling science literature English History general information and fun trivia it is the team activity with all the participants around one computer points are awarded based on how fast they answer and as well as their accuracy the sixth graders from Oakland New Jersey won first place in the country so at this time I'd like to ask Mrs boom to come forward with the students right up over here M Bomar would you want to just explain to the audience and the residents what this program was all about and how you got involved with it sure the camera is right there okay so um well during Co I was looking for quiz um competitions online because we weren't allowed to travel I came across this one and thought this would be right off our alley um the students actually started practicing back in the fall and um as I said they answer questions on a variety of topics and then we figure out who's best at certain topics and um we also have a keyboardist who is has the pressure job of having to um quickly click on the answer without getting yelled at too much by everyone else um but last year this group actually came fourth in the country and they were trying hard to top that and we were actually a little surprised when we got the announcement that they won first but they're a diverse group of students who have different um strengths and they were able to um really show off for us and approximately how many schools participated during this um around a 100 okay thre over all over the country terrific yes well thank you so much for that well let's let's get the certificates okay Jillian Sheen [Applause] congratulations next we have aliyas stini did I say that how do you say your name Alia councilwoman Rose yes councilman saliani yes councilman slinsky yes councilman talamini yes okay moving on ordinance we have none uh work session Mr CO's Recreation fees thank you uh so this is to address a few items uh that the uh Rec committee uh you know would like to see handled here in the early part of the year uh didn't quite make it in for the end of the year when we did the general fee uh adjustment ordinance so uh there's a few different elements to this one the committee has been working on a formalizing their refund policy uh and we provided a copy of that in the packet uh it establishes firm dates for refund requests uh for each of the Sports Seasons uh it also exempts from refund certain uh Sports programs where uh money is used to buy personalized gear that cannot be returned or reused somewhere else uh that's sort of the nuts and the bolts of it uh the second part is as we uh even though it's very very cold out right now we're already thinking about spring uh and the upcoming uh reopening of the tennis courts and pickle ball courts um and we'd like to adjust the uh fees for tennis badges for the use of the facility it's been some number of years uh I can't remember the last time it was that we adjusted that uh currently the fees are $25 for a resident uh $50 for a non-resident uh that's fairly typical by the way if you look at other towns too 2X or more uh up charge for non-residents uh we offer a senior discount of $20 uh and anybody under 18 years is free uh Rec committee is proposing $40 per resident $80 for a non-resident $30 for seniors and uh children under 18 would remain uh free of charge and then lastly there were a number of small program adjustments for uh some of the uh sport Clinic programs as well uh some information came in again after we did the uh ordinance in December uh that we would just like to get in place before we open up registrations for those programs and if anybody has any questions Mike happens to be here and I'm sure he'd be more than happy to uh provide you with additional information anybody have questions from the council are you happy mik yeah I I just want you know the commission they go they they go through the the whole thing they did a a lot of a lot of work they realized that that that uh the the the cancellation po the our the you know when the people want their money to refund policy um it was getting a little hectic and we needed it to be a little more uh codified and um and then the personalized stuff we're we're we're paying for for for things that we can't take back because it has the kids's name on it so so um uh and then the people want refunds and so we're making they pro-rated kind of refunds and things like that and then um the and then the tennis fees and the and even all all of these the the committee goes through a a big process and and just uh go going through what they think is fair for for the town and what's what happens in in other towns around us and we're just trying to uh keep keep the the the wck the the W uh fees you know reasonable but but also within within the the the the the scope of other areas in town so uh in the neighboring towns so and just thank you to to Mike and the rest of the committee any further discussion not saying it may Mr Crim would you have the St oppos resolution for next meeting uh it'll be an ordinance ordinance yep okay all right uh anybody have any new business not seeing it anybody have any old business not seeing any uh since we didn't have committees I don't believe we have any Council committee leaz on reports unless somebody has something yeah I actually did attend the OCC meeting just uh just I think you asked me to Mayor Y and um they had the reorganization U Ryan schwizer is President um they they they put their schedule out their next meeting it will be March 13th I believe and um they are so that that's where they they met I have some Council Pig tell yes uh Board of Health is going to meet this Tuesday January 27th at 6:30 uh in the basement of the library um unfortunately the last senior citizen meeting I could not attend I had a doctor's appointment uh environmental commission um we met and uh they discussed the uh noxious weed ordinance uh goals for 2025 uh members are going to bring the to the next meeting we briefly discussed uh Town cleanup uh for this year participation uh also disc a brief discussion on open space and uh a brief discussion on a uh deer ordinance I know many or some of us have been approached by residents about uh destruction to their ornamentals Etc on their property uh Mawa does have an ordinance that does permit uh calling uh they're going to take a look at that also and that's it mayor thank you ises anybody else yeah I just want to add to my report I forgot um the OC is working on an app an Oakland TV app and that's in the trial mode oh I'm sorry the OC is working on open TV app okay and let me just uh just to remind everyone uh there's baseball and softball signups for correct and don't miss the cut offs their um the the stes are a hard hard cuddle so if you miss it you miss it um all the information could be found on the the recreation website thank you councilman mccan do you have anything uh just the labor negotiations are ongoing as we we're still waiting on some insurance information uh and uh I believe we're going to
