electronically by streaming online from the district website an archived recording of tonight's meeting will also be available on the district website as acting chair I declare that the organizational meeting of the Independent School District 279 School Board is called to order at 6 pm on Tuesday January 7th 2025 seated in front of you this evening from my left and your right are Thomas Brooks Erica Foster Keith Tate myself Tanya Prince Kelsey Dawson and Sarah Mitchell also present in the boardroom are superintendent Dr Kim H and members of the superintendent's cabinet those of you who can please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance director Mitchell will you please lead us in the pledge Al to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for stands one nation under God indivisible withy and justice for all the next agenda item is the swearing in of elected members and the oath of office Erica Foster Kelsey Dawson and Keith Tate will you please join me in front for the board Das to take the okay um at this time I will read a statement about the importance of appointed position position from the Minnesota Schoolboard Association it is an honor that you are elected to guide the education of our community's students as you recite the oath of office you assume a tremendous responsibility as a director of our school district with the duties empowered by the Minnesota Legislature this power puts you and the other members of our school board in the position of both being morally and legally responsible for Equitable quality education of every student in our district in carrying out this responsibility you will be asked to fulfill the roles of vision structure accountability and advocacy in providing Vision the board with participation of the community envisions the community's educational future and then formulates the goals defines the outcomes and sets the course for the public schools to achieve the vision the board establishes a structure and creates an environment designed to ensure all students the opportunity to attain their maximum potential through a sound organizational framework because as a board we must be accountable to the community we must ensure a continuous assessment of student achievement and all conditions affecting the education of our children as board members we serve as education's key Advocate on behalf of students and our community schools to advance the vision for our schools furthermore we must strive to work together with the superintendent and staff to lead the district forward fulfilling our mission which is to inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence courage and competence to achieve their dreams contribute to community and engage in a lifetime of learning okay so having s um so uh ra I'd like you to raise your right hands and prepare to recite the oath in unison um okay I'll start you off having signed congratulations new school follows names are placed into nomination there's the opportunity for nominee or nominator to make a statement and a roll call vote which is required uh by um is required there no secret ballot um when we do the roll call for the roll call vote each member will state the name of the nominee they are voting for and there will be no discussion nominations are now in order for the the office of chairperson are there any nominations for the office of chairperson I nominate director Prince are there any other nominations for the office of chair Tanya Prince is nominated are there any further over the last couple of years director Prince Vice chair Prince has worked really closely with uh former chair msca Jones and superintendent Hy um to make sure that the board continues to run um and that we all continue to meet um or work toward our mission uh here in the district um now acting chair um uh Prince um is already pulls to to continue his chair and I'm confident that she'll continue to remind us of our mission here in this district and what we're here to do as a board thank you um I accept the nomination um it's been a honor and a privilege to serve in the different roles um in this district and um I look forward to continuing to collaborate and ensure all board member voices are heard and that we continue to make decisions in the best interest of our district okay so at exemplifies that and I'm excited to continue to work with um director books in this capacity my turn yeah thank you um it uh it feels was bizarre to be called a senior member of the board um but I have loved uh the last 4 years serving on this board um and everything I've been able to learn through uh working with um each of you and former board members and and committees and staff um so I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to Leading and helping out the board in any way that I can over the next next term so thank you okay uh with that the board secretary will now call on month for all other members the monthly compensation rates are inclusive of a $50 monthly reimbursement for IND District mileage and other incidental expenses is there a motion some some moved okay and the agenda setting protocol this information is for review no action is taken our other informational item is a reminder that there will be a work session following adjournment of this organizational meeting the work session will be in the Forum room here at the ESC and is open to the public the board secretary has several documents requiring our signatures we'll take care of that
