Part: 1

1
00:00:03.920 --> 00:00:42.120
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. We start out this evening with some recognitions. Mr. Spencer. Good evening, board. We're excited to celebrate our successful math and robotics teams tonight. And so we're going to call in the administrator at the building, the coaches, and the teams to call up. We're going to clap and recognize them, and then we're going to have them

2
00:00:42.660 --> 00:01:34.600
proceed out to get their picture and their certificate. So we have a large volume tonight, so we're going to tweak the way we usually do it. So first up, we have Glens Valley Elementary. They were our district Math Bowl champion. Coach Kara Lentz and administrators Lindsey Smith, principal, and assistant principal Adam Betts, and the team members of the Glens Valley winning team. Let's give them a big round of applause. Congratulations, Glens Valley, and then we'll go out and get your picture and your- Certificates ... certificates. Thank you. I'm not getting my words tonight. Congratulations. Great job. So in our Math Bowl competition, we have a district where it's just Perry Township,

3
00:01:34.640 --> 00:02:33.020
and then we have our area Math Bowl that has other schools as well. And winning that was Rosa Parks Elementary, Principal Matt Bush, Coach Mindy Sullivan, and Nicole Parrish. Congratulations to Rosa Parks. Good job, guys. Yeah, this is being live-streamed. Here's your area champion Math Bowl team, Rosa Parks Rockets. Congratulations. Well done. And now we shift to robotics. We had two teams that qualified for the state championship at Lucas Oil. As we've spoken about before, we've had a

4
00:02:33.240 --> 00:03:30.500
huge increase of teams from four to roughly 50 in a short period of time. And so qualifying for state, we have Abraham Lincoln, Principal David Henriot, Assistant Principal Adam Schwartz, Coach Mindy Williams, and Assistant Coach Steve Ajami, and the team members of the state-qualifying Abraham Lincoln robotics team. Let parents grab some pictures. And- Congratulations ... congratulations. And also qualifying for the state robotics championship from Jeremiah Gray Elementary School, Principal Doug Smith, Assistant Principal Mitch Maurer, Coach Brent Cummings, and Coach Amanda Davis, and the team members

5
00:03:30.600 --> 00:04:59.680
on the Jeremiah Gray state-qualifying robotics team. Congratulations. All right. We'll let parents get some pictures. And congratulations. Go Bulldogs. All right. Way to go, guys. Congratulations. Great job. Great job. And that is it for our recognitions tonight. Turn it back on. All right. Nobody had signed up for public comment, so we will move on to item number four, the consent agenda. Move to approve. Second. We have a motion by Mr. Shively, a second by Mr. Mert. Do we have any questions or comments? There being none, we will vote on the consent agenda.

6
00:05:00.140 --> 00:05:45.180
All those in favor say aye. Aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. Consent agenda passes. We have an introduction now. Thank you, board. Mr. Spencer? Okay. Yes. Abraham Lincoln, as you know, we've gone through a search for a new principal, and so we are excited at this time to make that recognition. Also, I want to thank David Henriot, who was a previous administrator in the district. He had been working at Southport Elementary School in an interventionist role, and he came back to help us out. So thank you very much to David Henriot as he helped us this year and supported that school. And now we're excited to announce the new leader of Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. Can Mrs.

7
00:05:45.280 --> 00:06:31.050
JJ Tidd come on down? As you know, we've talked about it and presented about it nationally. We have a pretty rigorous process that we go through, and JJ stood out throughout that process and is going to be an outstanding leader for the building. So give her an opportunity to introduce the guests that she has here tonight, and then say any words that she would like to say My son Justin, who graduates on Friday from IU. My daughter Natalie, who graduated two Saturdays ago from Ball State. And my husband, Eric, who graduated a long time ago. And then my parents, partly illegal, are usually snowbirds at this time, so they're happy to be here for graduation, so decided to come. And then I have a little village spread in the top row

8
00:06:31.130 --> 00:07:06.470
as well. But I also have to say, super sweet new employees from Avon and Lincoln that have come to support, and I'll say thank you. You guys are so great. And my administrator currently, Jill Baker, who really, truly, I would not be here without her. So I just want to say thank you for the opportunity. I think this is your 29th. All 29 years here. We did not intend to bury ourselves, but our kids will graduate from Southport, and this is a place that I love, and I am so excited to be able to celebrate with you.

9
00:07:06.950 --> 00:07:51.960
Thank you very much. Congratulations, JJ. JJ, do you want to have your family come up? We'll get that picture. Very quick. We'll make Hillary nervous. Thank you. All right. Thank you. And be-- Oh, I'm sorry. No, you're good. Go ahead. Good evening, board. Ms. Pollard. Yes. I have one introduction to make tonight, and I'd like to ask the principal at Southport Middle School, Dave Walpole, to come forward. He's going to introduce to us his new administrator that he just hired. Thank you, Mrs. Pollard. Thank you, board. We are excited to introduce our new leader at Southport Middle School,

10
00:07:52.770 --> 00:08:30.690
our counseling department, Mr. Patrick Clark. Mr. Clark, come on up. Mr. Clark brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in different backgrounds, most currently at Southport High School as a school counselor there. And we're looking forward to the next era of Mr. Clark leading our school counseling department. I'll let him introduce his guests and get a picture as well. Thank you. So I brought my family. I have Nora. She's an eighth grader at Perry Meridian, our very pretty middle school. I have Layla next to her. She's a freshman at high school. And then my wife, Leslie, is a second-grade teacher at Rose Clark Elementary

11
00:08:30.750 --> 00:09:30.170
School. So we are very much a district family. I also want to thank my current colleagues and coworkers for coming back and supporting me from Southport High School. I appreciate you guys helping me get where I am. I want to thank the board, Dr. Spray, Ms. Pollard, and Mr. Walpole for the opportunity, and I'm just excited to get to work. Very good. Thank you. Thank you. If you guys want to join him, we'll take a picture. She'll take this. Thank you. Congratulations, Mr. Clark. Anyone? That's all right. Very good. Well, before we move on, this is where we like to say, if you'd like to go ahead

12
00:09:30.210 --> 00:10:21.870
and step out, you are more than welcome to do so. It's always recommended to go get ice cream right now. Okay. We'll move on. Item 5.01, consideration of the treasurer, deputy treasurers, and position surety bonds. Mr. Hatcher. Thank you very much. We bring forward the surety bond list for this year. Names have not changed much, no position changes. We did add three additional positions for the unnamed innovation center,

13
00:10:22.590 --> 00:11:09.310
so we have coverage there, and we just recommend approval. Thank you very much. Move to approve. Second. We have a motion by Mr. Mertz, a second by Mrs. Hartman. Does anybody have any questions or comments? All right. There being none, we will vote on 5.01. All those in favor, say aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. 5.01 carries. 5.02, consideration of the guaranteed maximum price contract and acceptance of bids for the Perry Meridian High School addition and renovation, phase one. Dr. Spray. Board members, in your packet is an agreement with Skillman Corporation and

14
00:11:09.430 --> 00:11:54.450
a contract establishing a guaranteed maximum price for the phase one of Perry Meridian High School. This phase includes multiple building structures, electrical work, plumbing work, et cetera. The guaranteed maximum price established by Skillman Construction is $21,409,935. I'm going to ask for your consideration of this contract for Perry Meridian High School. Move to approve. Second. We have a motion by Mr. Shively, a second by Mrs. Hartman. Does anyone have any questions on the guaranteed maximum price contract

15
00:11:54.490 --> 00:12:30.510
for Perry Meridian High School? So I just pulled up the Southport one to look at it and compare it just a little bit. I know that one of the things that we had talked about was overextending different contractors and onlyOf the 16 that are listed, eight of them, so half of them, also won the bid at Southport. So I don't think that's over an exorbitant amount. I think that it's appropriate. But do we have an eye on that? I'm assuming that's Skillman's job, correct? Yes, it's that guy's job right there. Yes.

16
00:12:30.890 --> 00:13:09.150
I'll try to answer this, and if you'd like to add a little bit to it, that's great. So part of the process is, as we're vetting bidders and the low bids, is making sure we have bidders that not only have the lowest price but the most responsive bid. And a big piece of that responsiveness of that bid is do they have staffing to be able to do the job. Yes. And so that's a big part of the vetting. We had one on there, they went through double steps and that kind of stuff because they're a very busy contractor, just to make sure. So that is a great question and is part of the overall process. Okay, perfect. Thank you. Did that amount come in about where we were expecting it?

17
00:13:09.210 --> 00:13:43.490
I know we had some pleasant surprises in some other things. Yeah. I think the first bid on Southport helped inform the estimates on Perry a little bit more, so it wasn't as large, because it was 25% roughly, under the estimates on the Southport phase one. This was slightly under that. But still, I feel like we had good competition and good pricing going through the process. Good. Our CMC fees and the bond and insurance, the percentages were the same for Perry and Southport. Yes.

18
00:13:43.550 --> 00:14:25.850
That was part of our contract that we had already agreed on, correct? Yeah. Okay. Those are fixed. Okay. Thank you. Anyone else? No. All right. We'll vote on 5.02 for the guaranteed maximum price contract for Perry Meridian High School for phase one. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. 5.02 carries. 5.03, consideration of guaranteed maximum price contract and acceptance of bids for Perry Meridian High School central plant and Southport High School electrical improvements. Dr. Spray. So this is a contract, again, a guaranteed maximum price for the work

19
00:14:26.290 --> 00:15:00.730
outlined in the document and in the bids. It touches both, but we've pulled this out as a separate bid because it's a little more specialized and we wanted to make sure we got the right contractors on it. Example is at Southport High School, the electrical feed into the building, the main electrical feed is what we're replacing. Okay, so that's not really work we want your atypical electrician company working on. We want somebody who's really used to this industrial type infrastructure. Similarly to Perry Meridian High School, it's a

20
00:15:00.790 --> 00:15:49.590
lot of the HVAC work, and those kinds of things. So we pulled this out as a separate bids, and then a separate contract for guaranteed maximum price as well. And that amount is, it comes to $8,848,635. I ask for your consideration of that guaranteed maximum price for the work specified. Move to approve. Second. We have a motion by Mrs. Hartman, a second by Mr. Merz. Any questions on that guaranteed maximum contract? There being none, we'll vote on 5.03. All those in favor say aye.

21
00:15:49.690 --> 00:16:25.250
Aye. Opposed, nay. 5.03 carries. 5.04, consideration of agreement with William Brown. Mr. Hatcher. Yes. We bring forward for consideration the agreement with Mr. Brown. He has done our pension bond and forfeiture redistribution now for many, many years. And so we would like to have him continue for three more years. We've been doing one-year contracts, but we've asked him to do a three-year, assuming the board's okay with that. He does a great job for us, and he is willing to do it for

22
00:16:25.270 --> 00:17:09.570
another three years. So we would ask for approval. Move to approve. Second. Motion by Mr. Merz, second by Mr. Shively. Do we have any questions or comments? His previous agreements, they were all pretty flat. There wasn't much increase on that, so this was something that we're just spreading- Correct ... we want to make sure of it for the three-year period? Yep. This is flat dollar amount to what we've paid him the last couple of years. He used to do a little deeper dive into it when we still had the pension bond outstanding, but since that's been paid off, we were able to cut back what's needed from the agreement.

23
00:17:15.050 --> 00:17:53.250
All right. Anybody else? All right. We'll vote on 5.04. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. 5.04 carries. 5.05, consideration of the architectural design agreement with Lancer Associates. Dr. Spray. Yes. I'd like to ask for the board's consideration on the AIA document for the design of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at University of Indianapolis with Lancer Associates. Again, as a reminder, these fees and construction costs are a part of our Lilly Endowment grant.

24
00:17:57.570 --> 00:18:52.526
Move to approve. Second. Motion by Mrs. Hartman, second by Mr. Merz. Do we have any questions, comments? I apologize. We've got a lot of construction projects- Yes, we do ... going on right now. So Skillman will be in on this one- Yes ... as well? Yes. Okay. But this is just the beginning of this. So whereas we're down the road a little bit on the high school projects, we're just now starting this one. Correct? Correct. Okay. They are just now getting some of the... It's not design development, that's the next phase of it. Schematic design, thank you. I knew I asked you to be here for some reason, right? So we've got the schematic design going on now. We're doing survey work.

25
00:18:52.566 --> 00:19:30.346
We're still negotiating the land lease, all of those kinds of things. We want to get this contract taken care of. But this will be a CMC like we're doing with the high school projects? We are not doing a guaranteed maximum price on this one, is that correct? That's right. Because of the nature of the timeline, if we went back and did a guaranteed maximum price, we'd have to go back through some interview processes and some vetting there. We're going to go back to the CMA- Okay. ... work, construction manager as advisor, as Perry

26
00:19:30.386 --> 00:20:14.206
Township's done for many years for the construction delivery method. Got it. Okay. Thank you. Mm-hmm. Clear as mud. Any other questions? All right, we'll now vote on 5.05. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. 5.05 passes. 5.06 is consideration of contract with Hope Light, Inc. Mr. Spencer. Yes. Thank you, board. So we bring this contract for your consideration. So Hope Light is the company that has a service called Trust-Based Relational Interventions. And so it is, as we know, our students are coming to us with more trauma,

27
00:20:14.286 --> 00:20:48.806
with more potential barriers to learning. And so TBRI is something that one of our new APs last year had been previously trained on, and brought it to Jeremiah Gray kindergarten. Started using some of the practices and was getting some results, which made us curious. And so that school is going to send their behavior team. So John Romine and Aaron Probus went with them and took some of the elementary APs that had some goals related to this at their school. Saw that the training was really valuable, and we decided to then expand that this summer. So all of our kindergarten academies will be a part of the work, and currently three of our elementaries will be a part of this work, learning more

28
00:20:48.846 --> 00:21:25.246
about, I would call it, some mindsets that we help teachers with, and then some tools in their toolbox for students when they're dysregulated or students when they're struggling. And so we think this is some of the how of helping our teachers meet these students' needs. And so as we always do, we have our leaders go first, and then we try it out in small ways before we hop fully into it. But so there'll be some trainings through the summer. Also, as we've learned with our other implementations, there is some services on the back end, some coaching, and some follow-up throughout the school year. So it's not just we train you and then leave you alone. So we've got some intentional pieces built in to make sure that we're checking on

29
00:21:25.286 --> 00:22:07.146
the work and providing support for the teachers that are doing this work in their classrooms. So with that, we ask that you consider this new contract. Move to approve. Second. Motion by Mr. Shively, second by Mrs. Hartman. Anybody have any questions? You said there were three elementaries on top of the kindergarten. How did we go about choosing which ones and- Yeah, great question. So MTSS implementation, that multi-tiered systems of support and interventions, has been a focus K-12 for us, with Aaron Probus leading at the elementary level with John, and then Brian

30
00:22:07.186 --> 00:22:46.226
Knight leading at the secondary level. And so their work with APs has been identifying goals around that, and then supporting those goals throughout the year. And so there was three elementaries that their goal really well aligned to this type of work, and so they were invited to attend the first session just because it aligned to what they were already doing in their school. And what schools are those? Sorry, just DNA. Put me on the spot. Sorry. Jeremiah Gray Elementary, Southport Elementary, and Winchester Elementary. Got it. And all four kindergarten academies. Because I think the four- That is correct ... kindergarten academies were given in the description. Yes. I just want to say thank you very much for your description because I learned

31
00:22:46.266 --> 00:23:27.026
something new. I have never heard of TBRI. And I of course Google it. Isn't that what we do to learn a little bit, or at least to get a snapshot? So I appreciate the background and reasoning. Have we partnered with Hope Light in the past with anything? No, other than maybe like a one-off. Somebody may have attended a conference before, but this is the first more intentional partnership with them. Okay. Is it something that the teachers have wanted, like been asking for additional support in this or? In sending the two, we sent teacher voice to it, and again, out of that two-day

32
00:23:27.106 --> 00:24:12.346
training, they were the ones that asked administrators is there a way to have more opportunities for this. So I would say yes, that it is something that at the elementary level, at the kindergarten level, when they went, that was something that they came back to, to ask is there a way to train more teachers on this. Okay. Let's go ahead and vote on 5.06. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. Nay. 5.06 carries. 5.07, consideration of project management and roof management agreements with Lancer and Associates. Mr. Sampson. Thank you, board. We ask for your consideration of an agreement with Lancer and

33
00:24:12.406 --> 00:24:46.374
Associates to provide consulting and management services for various projects. Lancer's fee will be 5% of all project bids, along with the cost for reimbursable for printing and mileage The projects will include partial roof replacements at Clinton Young, Henry Burkhardt, and Glens Valley, boiler and water heater replacement at Jeremiah Gray, chiller replacement at Perry Meridian Sixth Grade Academy, air handler replacement at Southport Middle School, and ceiling ventilators replacement at Clinton Young and Henry Burkhardt.

34
00:24:47.654 --> 00:25:46.974
Lancer will provide services as construction manager, which includes pre-construction services, bidding services, construction oversight, and a role as an advisor on all construction matters pertaining to these various projects. We ask for your consideration of this agreement as presented. Move to approve. Second. I have a motion by Mr. Shively, second by Mr. Merz. Do we have any questions? There being none, we'll vote on 5.07. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. 5.07 carries. 5.08, consideration acceptance of donations. Mr.

35
00:25:47.374 --> 00:26:21.594
Spencer and then Mrs. Pollard. Thank you, board. We ask your consideration of the following donations. At Clinton Young Elementary, they have a donation of $300 from Rosedale Hills United Methodist Church that we'll use to support their outdoor education. At Douglas MacArthur Elementary, they received $1,500 from American Legion Post 355. It will be used for student programs, for resources, and for overall educational experiences for students. Douglas MacArthur Kindergarten had donations from Bubba's 33, Box Tops for Education, Bill and Lisa Hartung, and then CEC

36
00:26:21.654 --> 00:26:56.494
Entertainment LLC. And those will all be used for student activities or to support an upcoming field trip. At Jeremiah Gray Elementary, they have a $1,500 donation from their PTO, which we'll use to support their fifth-grade education camp for students that can't pay the full amount. Jeremiah Gray Kindergarten has a $60 donation from the American Heart Association for student activities. Our Perry Township Elementary District robotics account would like to accept a donation of $700 from the REC Foundation. This will be used to support robotics as we move forward. Rosa Parks had an anonymous donation that will be used to support fifth-grade trip

37
00:26:56.554 --> 00:27:30.494
to JA BizTown. And lastly, Winchester Village would like to accept a $400 donation from the foundation, which will help offset the cost of their fifth-grade T-shirts. And those are all of our elementaries, and I'll turn it over to Mrs. Pollard. Thank you. Perry Meridian High School received a $7,500 donation from the American Legion Post 355 to be used for student assistance. The Boy Scouts donated $146 to support boys' and girls' swimming, and the lacrosse team received a donation of $845.91 from Scott and Jennifer Simmons, Donnie Hacker, and two Dine and Donate events.

38
00:27:31.094 --> 00:28:03.694
The boys' baseball team received a $250 anonymous donation, and the Chen Youth Organization of Indiana donated $500 to support boys' volleyball. For Southport High School, they received a $1,125 donation from the alumni association to be used to fund the end of the year staff and retiree breakfast, a $132 donation from multiple parents to be used for student activities, a $7,500 donation as well from American Legion Post 355 to be used for student support and activities. Ohio Pile Prints

39
00:28:05.254 --> 00:28:40.043
donated $23.50 to be used for student activities. Smith Bending donated money to be used for student activities and events, and the Southport High School Athletic Booster Club donated $12,600 to support athletics. Southport High School athletics also received a $2,284 donation from Furniture Fair and Crumble. Tim Case donated $100 to support the dance team, and Isaiah Cousins donated $500 to support girls' tennis. Perry Meridian Middle School received a $704 donation from the Education

40
00:28:40.114 --> 00:29:20.934
Foundation to be used for staff incentives. The Compass Education Center received a $250 donation to be used to support the Bring Change to Mind program from Jennifer Rehob and Diana Jones. The James Wickham Riley Success Academy received a $5,000 donation from the Eli Lilly and Indianapolis Foundation to be used to support the 2026 girls camp week. On behalf of the elementary and secondary schools, we ask your approval of these generous donations. Move to approve. Second.

41
00:29:24.314 --> 00:30:12.474
We have a motion by Mrs. Hartman, second by Mr. Merz. Does anybody have any questions or comments? All right, we'll vote on 5.08. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. 5.08 carries. We'll move on to board member and superintendent comments. We'll start off with Mrs. Hartman. Yeah. Thank you. I love when we have kids or students here, so that is always a delight. So congratulations to all of our Math Bowl and robotics. I actually have attended both of the local Math Bowl.

42
00:30:13.594 --> 00:30:48.990
It just blows my mind that people like math. God bless you, Mr. Hatcher. But I'm glad that there's people out there that do, because they keep me straight. So, I like that. But robotics is something that's very sp- It's more trial and error. And so the team from Abraham Lincoln, actually, there's a group of girls that's on the team, and they were here on the end here. And at the event at the middle school, Perry Middle School, that we held, and it was not just a Perry Township. There were schools from all over that came to it.

43
00:30:49.910 --> 00:31:25.190
It was an all-day thing. They had a really good robot. Okay? But they had a lot of issues that day. And even the coach came up to me, and because I was asking some questions, and she was like, "They're really good, and this is their chance to go to state, but it looks like they're having some failure." And so to watch them process that, their frustration, but watch them not be overcome by their frustration in that, was really neat. So, kudos to all of our students in Project Lead the Way,

44
00:31:26.110 --> 00:32:09.970
and that go a step above Project Lead the Way and join the robotics team to do that, because I know that it can be very rewarding, but it can be very frustrating, and those are life skills that we learn through that. So, it is always a joy to see our people grow through our system. So the fact that both of the introductions tonight were people who have been here working in our township is just very special. But Chuck Mercer and the Mercer family is all over Perry

45
00:32:09.990 --> 00:32:52.550
Township, right? And Abby Mercer is now going to be the music teacher at... Goodness gracious, I didn't write it down. No, it's where Holder is. Mary Bryan. Thank you. And her family is just absolutely thrilled. And Abby graduated with my son and went all through school with Josiah. And she, from day one, has been the perfect elementary music school teacher. Just absolutely fabulous. So I know that the Mercer family is celebrating, but it's very

46
00:32:52.650 --> 00:33:31.930
special that one of our own is coming home, too. So that's very sweet. You know that I like that. So one thing I want to also just say is that I know there's a lot of discussion and communication about property taxes and where we get money to do things and those sorts of things. And I just want to remind, because I have to remind myself of this, that some of these things get funded by title money that we can't put into our general fund and use

47
00:33:32.010 --> 00:34:13.790
for building projects or to hire a new teacher, and so they have to be specifically spent on things. So sometimes when people would be like, "Well, why are you doing this?" Or, "Why are these people going to this conference and that?" Well, it's all different funding. And so just a thing to keep in mind. So along those lines a little bit because we all have people that... Well, maybe I'm the only one that has people that ask me crazy questions. But I'm trying to listen more than

48
00:34:13.890 --> 00:34:57.730
I speak, although I'm talking a lot right now, right? But we, as a whole, I think as a society, would be well to listen more than we speak and learn about things. So I encourage the Leadership Academy so that you can learn about Perry Township. That's it. As it rolls around every time this year, graduation will be here before we know it. Second semester seemed to blitz by just as quick as it came. But that's always a fun time. So always looking forward to that. Having been on the board for a couple of hundred years now, it is always quite an

49
00:34:57.790 --> 00:35:39.050
honor for me to look out in the crowd and be part of a very, very small part of promoting those people that I've known for a very long time. Started as a teacher, moved their way through the ranks, and now serving on the administrative staff. One of the highlights of the things that I get to do, and it's just very satisfying to watch these people move through their careers. And in echoing what Emily said, I came in at a very interesting time in Perry Township. And since that time, I think, and not just myself, but many of the board members that I've served with, really stuck

50
00:35:39.090 --> 00:36:20.130
to a fiscally conservative process. And when we look around and see things that I think will begin to happen and impact other school districts because of that, not only from our board members but from our administrative team, there are some things that we won't have to respond to as quickly as some other schools. And so I want to thank my fellow board members, my previous board members, as well as past employees of Perry Township who've watched the budget. And that was all I had. Again, just want to say congratulations to the robotics team

51
00:36:20.170 --> 00:36:58.274
and the math bowl teams on their hard work this year, and then just following up with my questions about the Hope Light justI just haven't heard any teacher say they want another training. So I think maybe we could find ways to support them in more meaningful ways, and I looked up the training, and it's really a parenting method. So I just trust that our teachers already have supportive classrooms where the kids feel supported, and they do feel

52
00:36:58.354 --> 00:37:37.074
safe to come and talk to their teachers, and it seems like it would be intuitive for them to have that type of classroom. And if they don't, then that's a separate issue, and we probably need to find some different supports besides the teachers instead of putting anything else on their plate. So that was just my thoughts behind that. And that's all I have to say. I wanted to wish a belated happy Teacher Appreciation Week. I think I've shared before that I had a principal once share with me the dirty secret that schools can go on without him and the other administrators, sorry guys. But it was a good reminder that really at

53
00:37:37.114 --> 00:38:16.454
the end of the day what's most important is teachers in classrooms. One of the best times of the year, all the outdoor ed programs, field days, award ceremonies, proms. I just want to appreciate also all the staff members who are going out of their way to make sure our kids feel seen, recognized, welcomed in all those various ways, right? Looking for ways to make sure that the school year ends well. And just a personal, well not even personal anecdote here, but we got some weather into the weekend last weekend, which was messing with

54
00:38:16.494 --> 00:38:52.774
some athletics. Our softball county was getting moved around, and I just want to give credit to Mr. Harris at Southport High School who, with his staff and Southport's administrative team, was able to, I'm sure kindly, gently, and patiently say to the other schools, "We're happy to help host because of the facility we now have." So it's a cool thing for us to be able to help out in that time of need. That's all I got. I just want to echo the comments about the kids being here for the math and robotics. That's great, and that it shows the great

55
00:38:52.834 --> 00:39:31.414
participation we get in those types of programs that I hope we can keep building on. And then just a note about the donations. Very grateful for the American Legion for several of the donations there, but also corporations, the PTOs, and parents, and Mr. and Mrs. Anonymous, too. That's great. So that's all I had. Just want to point out Southport High School's graduation is on May 29th on Friday, and Perry Meridian High School's on that next Saturday morning on May 30th, both at the Southport Field House.

56
00:39:31.714 --> 00:40:07.014
We've had a lot of collaboration and coordination with our administrators and our staffs, our police department, and all the logistical things, so we feel good about going into that operation. It's always a great event. It's always a large event, and just sprinkle a little chaos in at times, but we're doing our best to mitigate that as well, and the traveling trophy will continue for the shorter ceremony. Just throwing that out there. Many awards programs, recognitions, not only for our students, but our staff, will be given out. Teacher of the Year recognitions as well as the support staff

57
00:40:07.114 --> 00:40:44.874
recognitions over the next couple of weeks. So we really want to make sure that we are recognizing such great things going on in Perry Township. I also want to just thank real quickly the administration and the teachers in each building this time of year, as they remain focused on continuous growth. They're getting the most out of the kids every single day and maintaining those high expectations to finish strong. So thank you very much. All right. And remember, the next board meeting is our regular board meeting on June 8th at 6:00 PM right here. And with that, we are adjourned.

58
00:40:44.884 --> 00:40:45.124
Thank you
