##VIDEO ID:lQYrbb4V2uw## and Stacy Rizo I don't see her maybe she will join later uh Susan Graal is absent she noted that in an email Dr Kelly present Carl senson here Christopher Bowen here Rich Vis hang on say that again Rich here Don surella here Nick rrom here mayor Keith here Tom scosi he is enable to make it tonight okay absent thank you H John stamatopoulos present Michael P you H Anthony calandro we noted is absent Don Martelli present Joshua Miranda here Chris sha yeah thank you very much that is the roll call for today's meeting did you call did you call Don charmela yes okay okay so uh we have approval of the minutes from September setember 18th we have a second I'll make the motion if somebody wants to second second okay we have a second who was I think John Martelli can I get a roll call Y I will do the roll call Mike bardi yes and Diane Kelly yes sorry Dr Kelly all over the that's perfectly fine Carl senson yes Christopher Bowen yes Rich VC that's a yes yes thank you Don Cella yes Nick rrom yes mayor Keef yes and John sopis yes Don Martelli yes Joshua Miranda yes and chrisa yes thank you very much okay the uh third item on our agenda is the vote to approve October invoices for processing I can share um my screen with the um summary I can get the right screen up here um Brian did you want to do a quick update of the budget first before we move to the um invoice summary um I think we'll hit the budget again uh when we look at the conly contract Amendment but um long story short typical invoices this month we remain uh on budget no surprises no changes um so I think we probably go into the invoice summary Linda and I'll I'll show what we did to the budget for the conly amendment when we get to that agenda item perfect okay so I believe you can all see the invoice summary sheet on my screen I'm going to make a motion that we um submit for payment the left field uh invoice um in the amount of $236,200 um which is dated 9:30 2024 second roll call or any discussion none roll call is frozen okay this is interesting um all right I'm I'm gonna win the roll call uh Mike bardi yes Dr Kelly yes Carl senson yes Christopher Bowen yes Rich Vis yes Don surella yes Nick rrom yes mayor Keef yes John stopulos yes Don Martelli yes Joshua Miranda yes and Chris Cella yes and now make a motion that we approve the Parkins Eastman um invoice for dat October 1st 2024 in the amount of 1,1 101, 35262 any uh any discussion on the matter sorry did we have a second on that motion apologies sorry uh we have we have uh Rich Muke this is on the perk and Eastman correct Perkins Eastman designed to development for September 24th Brian when we spoke last week we kind of talked about these I'm out I'm muted here can you hear me yes all right so I just want to make sure that I know we're paying these U kind of structured and um I did have some discussion with Brian about percentage of where completed versus the amount of money out the door and and how that may work and uh want to briyan had a little insight on any of that yeah we are um we're we're on Pace as far as um where we should be and where these are invoicing um we're going to do a little bit more of a detailed analysis of the timing of finishing design development submitting estimates um and getting basically the the sort of budget approvals to proceed after DD I anticipate that that's all going to happen in January and February uh what I what um what rich and I talked about was that um you're not going to see final design development invoices until we've approved design development and we've moved on um so a few of these values for um potentially left field Perkins Eastman might um a little bit we're going to make sure that until the committee approves the final design development presentations with um all the estimates included um and we submit that to msba that we're retaining some uh value within the design development portion of these contracts so um we're on pace so far and we just want to make sure that we don't um get ahead of ourselves we've got to finish the design development part of the project before we bill out the completion of design development yeah and just to be clear to those people that are on this call um typically a a city or town doesn't pay a bill until a good is delivered and a service is completed and I understand these are progress payments being made but I just get a little nervous that I don't want to pay for 80% of the budget if we're only at 50% completion of of the design development documents so um I just think we got to be cognizant of the fact that we don't want to get too far ahead with progress payments when we're um it's not keeping up with the the progress of the actual design development so um not a concern right now but you know a million dollars a month out the door I don't want to be out 80% of the appropriation and not be halfway done with the design development so just got to be cognizant of that and we completely understand rich thank you that's all thanks Mr May thank you any other discussion okay so we have we had uh we did have a second cor uh correct we did okay roll call thank you Mike Mardi yes Dr Kelly yes Carl Fenson yes Christopher Bowen yes Rich Vis yes Don Cella yes Nick rrom yes mayor ke yes Donn stamatopoulos yes Don Martelli yes Joshua Miranda yes and Chris Cella yes thank you okay um Dian again so I'll make a a motion that we pay the kigle construction company invoice dated September 30th 2024 any amount of $27,000 we have a second second Rich V second okay any discussion pertinent to that topic or any is it open topic uh pertinent to the consig construction uh invoice for $27,000 nothing else okay okay motion motion uh sorry roll call um Mike the party yes Dr Kelly yes Carl senson yes Christopher Bowen yes Rich VC yes Don Cella yes Nick rrom yes mayor Keith yes John stamatopoulos yes and Joshua Miranda yes and Chris Cella yes okay oob October invoices are and for the record D tell is a yes sorry did I not call you no you didn't oh my goodness I'm so sorry I'm easily yes perfect thank you okay so the next item on the agenda will be the vote to approve the amendment number three for consigli um I don't know if you wanted to share that on the screen so everyone knew what the amendment was yep I'll uh I'll run through it real quick just to um so this is the contract Amendment um to provide fencing along the front of the site I'll just run you through some Basics here this is a chart that will continue to update throughout the duration of the project that shows the original CM agreement um preconstruction uh Amendment one these first two uh first three columns through Amendment two are already approved um feasibility study one was Amendment one feasibility study two was Amendment two tonight we're looking at um Amendment Three for temp fencing along the front of VFW Parkway and the the two streets uh straddling the rotary there so as we start awarding work you'll see that we've only um awarded work to kiggly on the preconstruction services line as we start to um award physical work that will always include uh trade work so we consolidate the trade contracts that's sort of the hard scope that we're asking asking them to do in this case put up a fence um and it will include proportional slivers of their fee insurance and contingency uh the total uh of this amendment three is $7,695 just so it's easy um if we focus down in this section the construction section previously um you've seen the total project value just floating on this single construction line that's because again we haven't awarded any physical work as we do award work we break out those budget lines uh into their own lines they have cost codes over here that correspond to the msba ProPay system so as we continue to award work to conly um this sort of section of the budget stretches is longer and longer by the time we're fully bid out fully awarded could be 50 60 lines long um we track this in our budget we track it in the msba budget um and you guys will get used to sort of being able to see if if there's a value currently 411 million hanging out on the construction line that means it's not awarded as you see other values in this 0502 category that means it is awarded so really quick what we're looking to do with the site fence is um I'm going to show you three diagrams this first diagram is what we plan to do uh in the next month uh we hope to have this uh all up and uh installed by Thanksgiving and really what we're talking about right now is a fence along the front of the site um about a about a half a mile of fence out here we'll be maintaining the existing opening uh right off Butler Circle where some of the the tenants in the city yard access the site so nothing really changes in terms of uh these tenants in the city being able to use the site come and go it's not going to be locked up and we're going to maintain a fence to the um The Contractor Yard down here this is a yard um where one of the tenants here martarelli is here martarelli is also the company that um is sort of going to be maintaining doing snow removal along this uh until we give everyone the boot from the site um next spring so right now what we're approving tonight is just this yellow line fence we're going to wrap the corner over there um Isen Bol the Turkish restaurant just because of sort of how the fence works and we're going to hit the corner up at the convenience store further up Northshore Road here as a preview of what's to come and these next two slides aren't what we're approving tonight but we just wanted to walk through it with you um come next spring when we look to award um site Demolition and um we're going to move we're going to basically run the fence from just this front side where it is we're going to run it around to this line here this line is about representative of a 200 foot buffer from the Eastern County ditch um that's as close to the ditch as we can get with the meepa process in the phase one site waiver so phase one from next May through August the fence will completely encircle this site all the tenants will be gone we'll have controlled construction Gates this is gate a for construction vehicles gate B off um Butler Circle and uh a pedest not pedestrian but um a worker vehicular entrance over here on Northshore Road these red areas are the areas that we're going to be um demolishing chewing up next uh May through August and we're going to leave this wedge of Pavement in here this is where the trailer complex will live and where we'll use uh some worker parking contractor lay down Etc so this is what the fence will look like next year once we secure all of our meepa permits and we plan to get into Full Construction we'll wrap that fence all the way around the back of the site and continue using the three gates on the front so for right now um again we're just uh running the fence around the front I also just wanted to show a couple of quick pictures um conly this is the type of fence we're looking at it's um kiggly colors there'll be periodic kiggly logos and we're going to have um we're going to lay out sort of a coming soon um panel that'll be hung up periodically down the fence uh this panel will have um rendering link to the website in any other language the city or the committee would sort of like to see on it right now we're just envisioning it as sort of a coming soon building opening in 2028 Etc with a nice rendering on there and a link to the website so that's more or less to just give you a visual um any questions on sort of what I just went through and then we can come back to the actual Finance of this this and do a do a motion just one uh Brian I believe msba requires signage on any fencing on an msba project is that right uh they require a a a specific sign that's not on the fence it's a big 4 by8 sign that's got to be up on posts um I think the earliest we'll talk about putting that up potentially is the real mobilization in May um we might even talk about putting it up in August I think that's something we can follow up about um okay but the msba sign is its own Standalone animal and I think really until we're building there that's the appropriate time to uh put that sign up is it appropriate to have their logo on the rendering signs along with the city logo and the school department logo yeah that's a good idea we can absolutely do that and okay I'm gonna I I I don't mean to pop a question on on Christy right now but I'm I think the these are of high enough resolution that we can also put a QR code on this that links to the website we'll have the URL but um as long as we can print these high enough resolution we'll um we're going to throw a QR code on there so it's quick and easy for people to get to the website Ryan I have on charola yep so the fence that you're showing is a ballast um fence with the uh with the stands on just just loaded with ballast is that going to be the same fence so and Christy correct me if I'm wrong but I think mostly yes but we're going to use some of the poles that are still out there we walked this a few weeks ago with the fencing sub there are some uh fence posts that are out there that are into the ground that we're going to use as well uh but generally speaking this sort of segmented ballast fence uh is uh correct me if I'm wrong chrisy the approach It's a combination so we do a panelized like those eight sections that you see here and then every other panel we drive a post so that it's not prone to tipping over so it's a combination of both but like Brian said we will use the some of the existing posts or the existing um components of the fence that's there and in some places if we can and if not we'll just drive uh new post to every other panel so typically we have problems with fences particularly with um the screening on them um in high wind areas they tip over a lot and then they become um they become obstacles whether sidewalks and what have you so um I don't think all of it should be B ballasted I think you know a lot there should be consideration to more permanent posts do you feel like the um 16 foot spacing on the post that Christy just described is sufficient I I think so I mean typically we've seen a lot of te temporary fences tip over with just balast I've never seen any with you know permanent posts intermittently I guess it would probably just be better um I don't think there's a lot of give with it with with permanent post every 16 feet y we've seen the same thing and that's why we drive a a a solid post every other we can also strategically just do some cuts um you know nicely cut in the fence to give it a little bit of break from any strong wind in that that scrim that you're seeing that red uh Mr Mayor I'm noticing Mike picardi has his hand up Michael um just a question uh this chain Amendment um for the fence will this amendment include the future like ref fencing um or is this just for this initial fence around the board just for the uh initial just for this front what's on the screen right here okay so there'll be another amendment later on yeah correct the the next Amendment you'll see will be associated with this phase but it won't just be fence it'll be to award all the demo work inside this fence so the the um April May Amendment will have actual bid results it'll be a larger dollar value and it will include some fence so when you see that um we'll have multiple trade contracts when we get to Amendment four Michael this one is just fence uh Amendment four is going to be site work and fence okay thanks and Nick has his hand up but just before you go Nick a question on that Brian when you're calling this an amendment is it because we're we're moving already allocated funds to different lines or was there nothing in the budget for fencing to begin with it was in the budget uh the amendment is more that um the amendment hands conly the work officially so okay to look in the budget we've um where did it go so inside of this if you if you add these up it was around 412 million um the 412 million included these costs we're now just peeling those costs out of the total estimate and awarding them so the contract amendment is really formally just giving kigle permission to do it gotcha but it is in Budget on budget Brian just a quick question on the events um this first section that is going to span the front um will will the ends uh the end down at Istanbul and the end you know closer to Shaman Street will those tie into some other you know structure like another fence or wall or something or are they expected to be freestanding until next year when we you know extend it all the way around they they will be tied in part of the reason we're turning the corner towards istan buul is we're going to there is an existing fence back there um that's pretty clean out on the road here as we get further back in there's going to be a lot more um sort of bushwacking and sight work to take over this fence but for now we wanted to turn this corner and join up with the existing fence so there's an ex existing chain link that'll transition to this red fence here it will be closed and uh up at this corner we are looking to hit um a post and there's a divider fence behind the convenience so it will be closed on both sides um it will remain open in only at this Middle Point uh and there will be a gate where marelli is here but they'll control that gate uh as their ATT tenant so closed on both Corners Nick open in the middle to maintain tenant access okay thanks any other questions before we return to a motion on the amendment just looking around for hands I don't see any so we would be looking for um an amendment to approve cons a a motion to approv conly contract Amendment Three for phase one temp fencing with a total of $17,620.63 second Rich Muke second roll call please thank you um starting with Mike Mardi um can I ask one more question before we vote on this um is there gonna is the existing bonding from kigle going to be covering all of these amendments or were they going to be updating like bonding throughout the project so and I they're awarded the the bond and again Christie correct me if I'm wrong but part of as we allocate real work to put in the ground we add a proportion of what the ultimate full Bond will be so it'll as we award work we'll work our way up to the fully bonded amount right now we're we're only including the value for insurance and bonds that Associates to that 90 something th000 of just fence work okay just cuz my first have a CM at risk making sure see how that works yeah we keep the in you'll see more money going into the bonds insurance and fee incrementally as we award more real and real work gotta makes sense thank you Brian is this a subcontractor is this kigle doing the work themselves it is a subcontractor and I forget the name off the top of my head Christie do you remember rigs self perform entity yep and rigs will be the doing the future phases of fence as well they'll be on board the whole time um well if I'm the first vote then I would say yes no more questions yeah uh Dr Kelly yes Carl senson yes Christopher Bowen yes Rich vade yes John Cella yes Nick rrom yes mayor keth yes John stopulos yes Don Martelli yes Joshua Miranda yes and chrisa yes excellent thank you very much the Amendments approved yep we can move into agenda item five right so we have the detail design update it's you uh that's you Mr taken yep so I'm gonna just give a quick update um on where we're at and then Dawn in Perkins Eastman team's going to bring you through some of the slides um we are as I noted earlier where remain on budget we also remain on schedule we had the second Community Forum last Wednesday and um we are still in the first meepa phase the expanded environmental notification form the public comment period for that first mea phase is open until November 15th and we anticipate getting um that uh approval for the enf on November 22nd so everything has gone very well the meepa processes included site walks uh hearings and uh an exchange of information meepa always requests some more information they gave us a a list of items that they wanted us to provide we responded uh to all that as a good team effort and um I think we're we're holding the meepa schedule we'll talk after Dawn's update about when the meetings are next month but I think the way the holidays lay out um we'll probably be meeting a few days before that meeper certificate is granted so we'll probably um we'll be able to to celebrate that first step probably at the December meeting but we are as I said on schedule um we'll talk about November December meetings and uh what January February is going to look like after the Perkins Eastman update um Brian I know one of the things that's helpful with um meepa and others is having some Community input can you talk to John Lind about putting uh something in the journal about um the comment period being open until what day did you say November 15th yeah and maybe get a little buzz in case I know there was a quick and easy link that people could send an email saying what they thought of the pro and that might be beneficial we'll do I will uh shoot him an email and be in touch with him tomorrow perfect thank you uh if there's no other general questions I think we could hand it over to Don and I think Don you gonna drive I sure can thank you no problem good evening everyone uh it's been I think since August 28th that we really reported out on design updates uh Beyond project updates that Brian's been doing so thought we would share some of what the design working groups looked at some of what we've been up to the last couple weeks so um we had a couple busy weeks uh mid October out on uh site at Rivier high school we had uh what we call our focus group meetings it's really with the users of the building um we October 9th 16th 17th and then we had a virtual on the 18th over you know their 19 meetings I counted over 72 staff teachers and over 40 students that all participated so we had students in pretty much every single meeting um and multiple staff instructors um food service director You Name It We heard from a lot of people still I'm literally finishing my notes because we had so many people taking notes on making sure there's no duplicates and everything so those will go out uh any day now and what we'll do is uh share that out with Chris and Dr Kelly and they were at the meetings they heard firsthand um a lot of the feedback that we got I would say some of the major um spaces that changed a lot of the office suites how we were organizing house offices and then a pure guidance Suite changed a little bit since we first met with focus group meetings and the latest one previously was two years ago it was November of 2022 so literally almost two years ago um a lot has changed and the organization of house offices uh and those Suites did change so that will be a plan change not nothing major they're all centrally centrally located with guidance within the Suites which is uh in our opinion a very nice way to lay out your house offices um it's basically available for all the students um within their individual house offices it's the organ organization uh is improved so uh that was a big change we heard from uh the teacher planning spaces uh one of those will be allocated to coaches the coaches actually coach the teachers so one of those will be specifically laid out for them um in general a lot of the office spaces are shared with with private office SL meting spaces directly adjacent and available so the concept uh of this is that there's not a lot of owned private offices they um the administration wants uh the staff and everyone teachers available and visible and um only having to go behind closed doors when appropriate and for privacy reasons uh so in general the Suites and um the teacher planning rooms all the all of those are laid out um with that in mind so I'll let Chris and Dr Kelly chime in at the end if they have anything to say that I might have missed or to comment on that um but we met with PE Athletics we talked about locker rooms we talked about the walking Track um at the second floor met with Junior Roc understanding their program um we met with them years ago but uh just want need a refresher um the some of the uh spaces that kind of fall outside of the media center but are under that umbrella the career center dual enrollment internship stem writing centers uh have a better understanding of how those spaces are used and how the architecture can support those Services uh was really important we met with a lot of the tech spaces robotics biotech sustainability um understanding how those spaces uh want to be laid out some of them exist some don't so um just getting a better understanding of the architecture there and then the Performing Arts we met with music but not with the auditorium quite yet I'll get to that in a minute and then nurse and MGH Community Health so many many uh meetings lots of information and very helpful as we kind of nail down any plan refinements moving into the end of design development uh you can see up on the right this is just a photo I think this was one of the our last meetings um the stem writing uh meeting and um you can see Bob presenting up there uh on the right those are called room data sheets those are an msba uh requirement and deliverable and basically there's SE 70 some odd sheets that lay out every single space how they're furnished what kind of systems are there uh to the best of our knowledge to date right like decisions that are being made um and they were handed out shared electronically and they'll be attached to the meeting notes and basically that was a a road map to talk about each individual space we also had overall floor plan site plan uh we brought up some of the renderings at times so it was very interactive and I will turn to Chris and Diane to ask if there's anything that we missed oh one other thing there are a handful that either got postponed or we weren't able to connect with those folks um I will share that they are guidance and student support it's the business business um spaces so Hospitality marketing uh the auditorium and theater and that's forthcoming that Auditorium is getting sort of a revamp right now so that will be exciting to meet with them hopefully in the next week or two uh school store credit union and then maintenance custodial loading uh that'll be Carl we need you on that one um and then the cap the cafeteria seating so those uh six sort of groupings of spaces uh should be coming up in the next couple of weeks so Chris we need to get those uh on calendars yep did I miss anything there's so much there that but I'll let you or Dr Kelly chime in and and share anything from those nothing specific I think just that over the past few years um some of the programming at the high school or vision for future programming at the high school has either kind of evolved a bit or changed from when initial plans were were were set and so I think that's for me has been kind of an exciting conversation talking with staff who are eager to talk about some of that Evolution and then be able to talk with Don and and her team about kind of what changes to the plans or what modifications to plans kind of get us closer to some of that Vision so it's I don't know it was a very excit for me it was like a very exciting and fun three days and I think you summarized things very very nicely I agree and I think even the staff and the students are invigorated and more excited about the project um having had these opportunities to have their say and put in their two cents um I think everybody had forgotten that we did this two years ago um but then when we got you know kind of retreaded um it fell off people's radar so it's it's it's it is exciting to see everybody so excited about it now again so that's good and I have to say having the students there we they I I kept picturing myself in their shoes I'm like oh they're not speaking because they're probably like oh this is a room full of adults and you know I'm just a student here and so we kept trying to engage them what do you guys think are you excited do you have little brothers and sisters that might go to this school we know you won't exactly get to benefit so um it was great having uh their voices and hearing from some of them I know um there was a particular student in the nurses meeting that was really helpful and helping us understand how some of those spaces are used so um you know just a huge shout out to the to the students who were probably a little out of their comfort zone but uh had a lot to um offer so loved having them any questions the kids are awesome they I gonna say the kids are awesome yeah no they're great and like so some of them so you know like I kept asking oh what year are you what are you you know the seniors and uh Juniors I'm like are you looking to go to school are you looking to work what's your future hold and just hearing what some of them were interested in and what they wanted to do whether it was highed or work it was great to hear and get to know them so very much appreciate having them be part of this process all right shall we move on oh sorry my dog um if I may before you move on just tell the appropriate time for the question cat um does the city lab have a dedicated space at the new high school no will they be at the new no the intention is not that they would move to the new high school so they'll have the same space they have now yeah there's a lot of reasons why and briefly I'll just say that um the students that we serve at City lab um have different kinds of needs and being in a large building with thousands of kids um doesn't fit for most of them which is uh why they're there so um we intend to to keep them in their own space and continue with their experiential learning they don't spend a lot of time in classroom um and we intend to continue that yeah well thank you I I I would challenge that there probably a lot of kids that will still be at the new high school that would benefit from a smaller space but um just seems like a missed opportunity so I hopefully you know I'm I'm confident you guys have done your your support reasoning to uh make that decision but yeah we have we can't we the msba would not give that let us give them the kind of resources that they really need in a in a new building like build them a separate wing for example they would not allow that um so there's there's a there's a lot that goes into it I'm happy to sit down with you John if you want yeah this isn't the venue for it so thank you so much the the um part of the some of the things that City Labs is doing will somewhat translate though into the new school when it comes to some of the um technical technical uh experiences that they'll have um sort of you know call it vocational um classrooms that will be inserted into to the new high school so you'll get a little bit best of boths yeah what I said to Stacy Mulligan uh when we started the city lab program is that my goal is that ultimately every student in Rivier has a high school experience like the city lab kids are that in involves a lot more Hands-On Outdoors internship um meeting with others that's what's going to prepare them for the work Workforce and for college um and so this building is being designed with that in mind with a lot of Hands-On maker spaces the robotics lab the different pathway Concepts that we're incorporating and all of that went into the educational planning um for this project thank you thank you thank you any other questions um focus group meetings or program no if not I will change gears just wanted to give that update uh another update that I'd like to give the exterior um first I'll focus on the materials and just remind everyone that we're still planning the same pallette that we've had for years A lot has changed on this project but not so much that uh the exception which I think I brought this up in the August 28th meeting that we had the fieldst we're hoping to move to the site um and use the the Brick iron spot as a a durable base uh in the in the main seual building um but otherwise the materials palette has remained the same these are the concept uh slides we've always used we just put where we're planning on using them there is one addition we need kind of a lightweight material we had previously talked about some metal does that you know um withstand the the elements in reir the salt water the salty air uh the storms we are currently thinking more of a fiber cement rainscreen like a like a fiber panel um thinking that may hold up better so um with that exception it is all the same uh so just wanted to share that and remind everyone where we were um this is previous um and we got feedback we heard you we made some changes um I would say that the three changes we were focused on was um you know concern about this screen we heard it uh the sort of rigidity of the front elevation where the soft curves that are you know existing in other parts of the building and then we internally knew that this would be a little too much glazing both for solar heat gain but also for economic purposes so our three goals were to um reconsider the screen um bring back some of the soft curves and make some of the window openings and amount of glazing uh reduce that so with that we looked at studies we shared this with the design working group uh previously and with Dr Kelly and others as we were um going through some of the focus groups and then wanted to share sort of where it's landed um that you know the basically the floor plan and program behind it is pretty much the same um main entry here with a canopy we brought back some of the soft curve there's um these are art rooms uh on the second floor above the administration and hospitality and nurse on this lowest level we've got art rooms here and there's stem writing uh centers up on the third floor floor this is a two-story um space at the exterior of the building that is the Freshman um cafeteria kind of the second level of the heart of the school and then you can see one of the academic Wings coming off on the left so this is still subject to change and evolving but hopefully you feel like it's moving forward and um we did share this image around with the design working group earlier this week um didn't hear so much back as far as um any opposition so we thought we'd share tonight and then the design working group didn't see this CU I literally got it today but the other side of the heart of the school the courtyard side this would be the you know as you walk into the building it connects through to the Courtyard that's above the underbuilding parking and looking back at the heart of the school from the exterior Courtyard which still is being developed um with our Landscape Architects so this is all just placeholder you know um exterior space but the idea is that these two facades start to relate to each other so I feel like if you go back to that front one Don that to me looks so much I you use the word soft I don't have the design words for it but this to me looks a lot more inviting than the all the rectangles that were there previously I don't know good I'm glad to hear that that's you know we were working towards that so we heard what um the feedback between the design working group uh this building committee um through yourself I think you voiced some concern at the last the August meeting when we presented it as well as even maybe through the mayor's office so um you know this is still being tweaked and you know it could be subject to more change but for now we're feeling like this is a um a a building that's inviting a safe place for students to arrive every day and a place where they're excited to so does anyone else have any thoughts any feedback anything you like don't like no one's ever offended please share anything that you're thinking we're all ears curious on the positioning of the letters that could change in going right to left you what are you saying you'd rather it go the other way I just this is the first time I've seen this so I mean it's just a little shocking to me to see the bottom of the word r at the bottom of the building going up I you may want to see it across the top of that rounded span sure just my idea the the signage is a placeholder for now so um happy to you know Prov provide some either options or a different um different solution there little bit of an abstract there Carl we're supposed to be teaching them right that's not how we write no we hly I agree Carl I mean when I was working at malen Catholic when we we did the re facade of the building one of the first uh renderings looked like it was a stacked logo and I said look people don't Le read bottom up they leave they read left to right and and we we changed at that particular point so I agree with it point taken thank you gentlemen yep and I I guess I'll just add to to what Carl and Don is saying is um we have a lot of people who are English Learners and so the way we Orient letters you know we definitely want to make it easy for families to recognize what they're seeing and that makes a lot of sense I think it looks very cool myself but um when if I think about putting the kids and the families at the center of this maybe not so much y we hear you that will change thank you for the feedback any other comments no I do have some interior uh renderings to show uh mayor if that's okay sure I just we we're a couple of us are on a Time so oh you bet let me here I'll Zoom through um just want to share some of the Interior work that the uh working group design working group has seen uh just some of the concepts of school pride integrating with some of the ocean concept that we've always had the um the classroom the vertical floors one two three and four just picking up on the marsh um ecosystem and some of the colorways there and I'll just share this is a materials palette and the different floors so subtype low Marsh High Marsh Upland um and then some of the Interior rendering so this is one of the flexible learning spaces sort of at the center of one of the academic Wings where the um stair connects uh at the midpoint of the academic wings so just a place for students to gather outside of their classroom continue to learn do group work or individual work uh this is a a general classroom um light bright soft colors natural materials uh the heart of the school still needs materials applied that's a literally happening as we speak um but these are some monochrome renderings to give you a sense of the space so this is the other side of the exterior rendering I showed you the main entrance is off to the right this is a three-story space uh bringing in natural light from above and this is looking towards the courtyard as you enter the building through the main entrance and then looking back towards the main entrance from the courtyard side so so the next iteration you'll see materials applied like these other renderings this is the two story Media Center at the South Side the third and fourth floors of the academic Wing kind of dead set in the middle Don one second can you just go back to that previous slide with those bleachers next to the stairs here that's like a seating area it's called like a like a gathering stair or a central stair so this is actually the stairway to get up and then students can gather and sit here presentations eat lunch um they also called social stairs Chris so um they are basically a vertical connection tying this main cafeteria to the Freshman cafeteria which is just off to the right at the top of this as well as the main entry to the uh Auditorium so it's sort of creating a place to populate um adjacent to stairways okay thank you you're welcome yeah Chris they have these in downtown Boston and it's almost like a foot and a half span of a step and they come Cascade up for like sitting so you're not really walking down them unless you get really long legs it's really hard to walk up and down them yeah thank you Yep this is the side you walk up and down with your traditional um tread and riser Heights and then these are um to Don's point they're kind of two Treads and risers together um sorry I'm just trying to move through for the sake of time for the mayor and others who have time commitments later so two-story uh Media Center this is the tra traditional um book stacks and and research and study moving into the maker space this is um directly off the Freshman Academy uh cafeteria but this is a place where kids can create and 3D print and do big projects and then lastly one of the art classroom so very similar to The Maker space but uh flexible enough to do 2 art in the case of two of them and 3D art in the case of the other two there's four General Art Plus digital so that was all I had I had some plans at the end if anyone needed to know where we were in space but I'll stop sharing and look around and see if anyone has any interior questions or exterior any design questions I I have one that came up done with um our it group today okay um and they did the it meeting talking about um you know I'm going to have none of this vocabulary right but I'll just try my best okay um what kinds of cables and whether we need Wi-Fi out at the fields and um you know all of those kinds of things and I said to them the purpose of these meetings was for the design team to gather information from the users of the building so that we could say we really want X or we really want y um the way we did in other areas and what they came back with was you know they were fine with that but they're hoping that the design team is going to bring on a consultant who can talk to them about the Future Ready technology that we need um yes let's add that to that spreadsheet we can add that would be great yep yeah it infrastructure and I mean exactly throughout the building there's there's wireless access points pretty much everywhere but as it relates to out on the fields we can talk about where it's desired and how to get it there so I will because one one of the one of the things that came up was also talking about um right now our PA systems um have a gas generator backup so that if there was an emergency we could still use them if this if we're thinking about this um facility not having a gas backup how would we back that up in case of an emergency um so thinking about the technology that way and as I said John and Steve have much better ways of describing what I'm trying to but um it they they talked about how in the Hill school for example on most recent building they re they ran a particular kind of cable throughout the building so that television was available in all of the classrooms on the smart TVs that we have the smart boards um and whether or not that's really necessary in this day and age where television and cable isn't really used if we want to have a resource um we can always pull it up on the internet right and still project it in the classroom so is there some economy that can be saved by not running cable television cable throughout this whole building right right I'm okay so I don't want to speak out of my Lane so I'm going to suggest that I don't see Dan on here right now but Nick um that we set up with your it with our consultant who's already working on she's got IDF rooms MDF rooms she's got all the infrastructure the racks all of that like they will she will speak their language they'll be exactly and we were in about paragraph uh sentence 10 of this conversation he kept saying IDF MDF blah blah blah blah blah I said can you please tell what ID mean you know like so they'll be very excited we have the space so we have the architectural space um okay and we're we're making assumptions on and locations and all of that right so now we can have her join a meeting with your it guys I want to say they've already met years ago but it's time for a new one so probably yeah yes especially if they're asking questions so we will set that up um I through Dan and Nick I will okay get that set up yep oh there's Great Dan they actually they actually met last week they did are you sure it was with the consultant Lan yeah okay yeah they left that meeting all Consultants okay they left that meeting we met today with Carl and them and they felt like that somebody should be telling them what they need and what The Cutting Edge technology is and they didn't leave that meeting feeling that way they left the meeting feeling like they're just asking us what we want and we want somebody to guide us in I see all right we'll talk to them okay okay we'll tell we'll tell everybody to change what they're doing then to go that direction that's fine yep generally that is most times the it departments do tell us pretty much what they are expectations are not the other way around yeah Dan Dan when we built the last four or five schools we've always had somebody who was much more advanced than us and you know we were sitting there saying this is what we want this is what we have now and we want to keep this and we had a very good consultant who turned out to be 100% right 99% of the time saying no trust me this is what you're going to do this is where the industry is going and this is what we're um you're going to be rolling into so I would strongly suggest that we bring someone on and not just depend on you know the our people who are very good at what they do but they don't design you know internet infrastructure systems for a living so I'd really like to you know if they had questions it's it's almost shocking because these guys are some of the best around and I think we really need for them to not come out of meetings like this with questions right got it and I do want to ask one way or the other there will be gas backup whether it's national natural gas or diesel but important Life Safety Systems including pa um Etc will have backup of the electric goes out okay so Brian that's a great that's another conversation is sometimes we've seen that get ahead of us on the emergency systems where we all of a sudden get a blueprint and then we start asking is this on the uh emergency generator and you say no and then you say well we want it and it becomes a change order and for them to adapt and give us our needs so I think a deep dive into what should be on the emergency generator because sometimes it's not always life safety and it always doesn't jump out of you know we lost power and we said ah you know it would be great if that was on there so I think we kind take a deep dive into that I think we have a list Carl so it's probably worth refreshing dusting it off making sure that's case yeah more looking in the technology side of what we lose and what would be um you know I know some things are almost automatic but I um I think some of the stuff that that we have now even if it's modern we would have liked to see certain things on it that would go down that we're without so yeah it'd be good to look into that list sounds good perfect we will follow up on that thanks Co anything else design wi John I noticed there's a a message from uh from John in the chat and I don't know if it's maybe I thought he asked that question yeah I think we answered it out loud yeah okay yeah he asked it y thanks Linda anything else if not I'll turn it back over to you Brian sounds good I just wanted to quickly um hit so for the next two months these me meetings are going to feel about the same we're going to continue updating the progress updating you about permitting updating you about the schedule um looking at the calendar we think that um November 20th is probably the best date to meet with the Thanksgiving holiday the following week um and in December we think December 18th makes the most sense so um otherwise we'd be pushing into both of those holiday weeks so if generally speaking people are okay with December um sorry November 20th and December 18th we'll get zooms out for those and again those meetings are going to feel about the same January February is when we'll start getting into a lot more detailed topics talking about pricing and ultimately getting this um design development phase submitted to msba so if there are no objections to um to those dates we will uh get them on the calendar and with that uh I think we could quickly uh hold on let me just make sure so we could quickly go to public comment here uh name and address for the record if we have any members of the public want to comment going once I'm not seeing haven't seen any going twice okay any new business from the committee if not I think we're ready for a motion to adjourn so motion second good call we need a roll call everyone have a great bye everybody thank you thank you everyone St
