[Music] and call our meeting to order at 7:02 um so I'm also just gonna say I apologize in advance uh my second meeting I've run um the first one being a half an hour so uh if it doesn't go great I'm sorry um so meeting called lord 702 uh let's hold on one second and I thought AR had been to Dan all right there's it all uh so the first piece would be public hearing I don't see any members of the public here so I think um that we can move on from that um the agenda today is pretty straightforward it's the same as it always is um I do have a perpetual calendar that um Dan Hayes dropped off uh to my house uh but I also feel like right now um it sort of feels like we're heading into the summer and so that's something I'd like to reintroduce um come our next meeting um in I believe September um so I don't really want to get into that right now so we'll skip that piece and um head to Warrant I suppose so Leah what uh we're looking I mean between Leah and KAIT yeah I'll actually let Kaitlyn um share updates on the warrants sure give me just a second to change screens um okay so for accounts payable warrants I have um and Trevor I'll send these to you right after um warrant 327 from June 11th for $ 42,69919 3028 from uh June 25th for $3,314 And1 oh usually I only say the ones that are to date or before or I try to but since the next meeting is not going to be until September I will also list these next two uh warrants that have not come to date yet uh so the last one is 329 from June 30th for $46,988 66 I have three payroll warrants 324 from May 28th for 86356 3$ 325 from June 11th for $855 97 cents and then the next one uh which is later this month uh 326 for June 25th for $875 59 I do not have any gifts or grants gu so no votes needed for today correct nope um okay so sorry I'm just quickly checking I noticed I was scanning down through our agenda and realizing that our next um our next dates on the bottom of this are not correct but I will figure that out afterwards um so we don't have to any vot so we have to approve the meetings for May 16th 2014 2014 2024 at summer brain do I have a movement a move anyone moved to uh I moved to approve the minutes second all right so and and said who seconded I'm sorry Jen I guess as long asor Jen thank you Jen um all in favor uh and again we usually just raise our hands and say your last name um all in favor I heard I long mayui Jack I all right so uh un V approved our minutes we have our unfinished business and updates which is the capital projects building process discussion roof spoilers kitchen and floors um usually that would be uh Jackie who'd be talking about that I don't know if anybody else saw Steve earlier today and Steve Sullivan and talked to him for a minute um and he said he was gonna try to join this meeting um and talk about that stuff it's pretty much uh trying to figure out the um driveway situation and getting the driveway fixed so okay I wish I had more information no that was good you had something it's more than uh more than we have I just want to make sure like this this whole interface is new for me so I just want to make sure I'm not missing people coming in but I don't believe that I am no here okay also the kitchen is being worked on over the summer I'll have a better update for you in the in September and maybe pictures make it flashy you're G have pictures of the kitchen yeah that's the hope what they but they're they're pretty much taking everything out of the kitchen to do the floors okay and that's the last I think if I remember correctly Jackie was saying that's the last floor in the building um to be updated like and then it's all having it's all been done so that's great okay um well we'll hold on uh if you know Steve Pops in we can come back to this I suppose um so the new business uh is our fiscally year 25 budget principal salary line um Caitlyn do you want to talk about that I guess uh I can but that's really contract with Karina she might have maybe okay okay so um let's see the discussion and vote is on the principal contract um so because there are fiscal implications uh school committee votes on that okay so because it's because it's $5,000 more than was budgeted we have to vote on it just to say that we approve that and then um at least kayn in my conversations with you um our thoughts have been or the thought generally is that 5,000 isn't that much and we can usually find that through savings and such throughout the year is that correct yes and um you know a lot of times $5,000 goes a long way if youve someone that can manage the budget correctly okay is that you an I'm just kidding um so yeah I would actually say I've I've got a lot of experience in that area and I'm sure K and I will work closely to make sure that that happens for sure and I am not above finding very unusual grants that people don't usually go for and making sure that we can cover some costs you know in different ways okay so sure yeah other discussion anybody else questions or yes yeah I'd love to get a copy I um I apologize if I missed it but I haven't actually seen a copy of the contract yeah I'm not sure if we have generally I don't know that we have all that any of us have seen actual cop well yeah that'd be a good thing to make sure that everybody has a copy of I guess usually it's not a school committee thing because it's just the superintendent hires the principles and the school committee has nothing to do with it so it's not something that yeah we just don't it's not under our purview so it's not something that we generally do that makes sense thank you for that reminder yeah um the only person that we manage as a school committee is the superintendent and so anybody else uh that's in the school district the superintendent is in charge of hiring and um there's a few positions I guess that we approve upon the superintendent's recommendation but you know unless there's some like weird extraordinary circumstances it's really just of like a notification and not really an actual approval it's just like yep thanks good um and so the reason that the reason we have to vote on it tonight is because it's $5,000 over the budget that was budgeted for the line item and that's why we're we're discussing so we just have to approve like moving some money from one line item to another line item so in is it a budget transfer approval no it's not a transfer we are going to overspend that line um and then look for savings and other places I move to approve the salary increase of $55,000 is seconded second by Jen all right all in favor I yeah my UI long cope ey Jack I I'd still like to see the numbers I'm voting on so even if it's like I'd still like to see that but I agree we want to pay our principal well so yeah and I think the the the only piece that I had was that I feel like initially my concern was just that in a contract here with teachers you know in the end it all washes out like $5,000 is not a lot of money to you know to overspend the principal line and we're still having to make the contract piece um so like I feel like overall this is not it's not a big ask it's not a big reach to get somebody with the experience that um that uh and has so that's yeah I feel like it's not a lot it's all is in the end but it's it has to be voted on because it's above the budget so um at this has everybody voted or did anyone abstain I didn't really get track of it okay so unanimous thank you um and Lee I think if you look at the I mean if you look at the budget that we approved it's just that one light item for the principal that's $5,000 more so what Jackie was going to get paid in her contract for next year would have been $5,000 less than what we're paying an as she comes in um and that's the only difference that we're voting on so uh moving on from that one uh reports superintendent report is first superintendent I think you're muted right now she's good now can you hear me there was a brief moment there yeah we can hear you thank you okay thank you hi everybody Karine Whow and trim superintendent I have some updates so well first of all as you know Ann is here and looking forward to coming on board and is already um getting involved so that's very exciting we also have Shannon Cleveland coming in uh for superintendent on July 1st um myself the leadership team and central office have been keeping in touch with Shannon on matters that are going to carry over into the summer and of course for next school year things that are happening now for planning um so we are keeping in touch so she's best position to for a smooth transition we want her to be off to a great start as we want for Ann as well we are also moving forward with hiring for the director of student Support Services position which I'll be leaving at the end of June the next step we have a finalist who has moved forward to um The Next Step which is to have a discussion and vote at the Joint supervisory committee on Tuesday June 25th um that will be a discussion and vote on that contract that is one of those positions that was um noted earlier that comes as a recommendation from the superintendent and the joint supervisory committee actually signs that contract um and they are really the finalist is really looking forward to joining the team I think they're going to do a great job we've had a few areas of hiring um right we've had Ann come on board hiring a new superintendent we're hiring for new director of student Support Services um also we are in process hiring a principal for Lever elementary school as well as an executive assistant um so the Leverett school principal search has been reopened um the committee is looking forward to interviewing over the coming weeks and the first interviews for the executive assistant position happened today and other than the school year wrapping up very nicely shoots fa and some nice end of the year activities that is it and I um I did think Jackie was is going to be here so I thought we were going to have um opportunity for some more details um there were great great end of your activities happening though and it's saw a lot of smiles okay thank you very much Karina um Kaitlyn finance and operations and we also have any ofe transfers discussion and possible vote on the agenda give me just a second okay so it has been a really busy year um we are all looking forward to kind of tucking FY 24 um back and moving into the next year um the next I'm already looking forward to the FY 26 budget cycle which feels like especially when you have to you know get the um Union 28 budget passed first we start off in in pretty early September so even during the summer we're starting to build the the foundation of what the next budgets are going to be we're going to have um like Karina said we're going to have a lot of new faces over the summer it's been the hiring process with a creating hiring committees and interviewing candidates and the School site visits and the contracts been really busy I think I did five interview committees so far um and we just I was in the interviews today for the executive assistant to the superintendent uh for each of these you know we've had some really um been a really great process some challenges it's nice when you kind of can wrap one up and it feels really good moving forward and I you know shoots Barry is is one of those cases so it's nice to to move forward with some you know new faces all four budgets were passed at five annual Town meetings the most recent of which was on Monday night at the new Salem uh New Salem town meeting um I was unable to attend because it was my daughter's sixth grade graduation from Irving Elementry on Monday but um but we kind of wrapped up that last town meeting and it it's great to move forward and I do not have any I'm not going to request any transfers so usually typically we have if um our food service revolving account we pull all expenditures and payroll from the revolving account but then we tuck a bit of money away into our local budget so that the end of the year if the revolving account is not running in the positive we can transfer money into it I'm happy to say that revolving account um I have not reconciled this number with the town yet because that's always an ongoing process but the revolving account for food service has $ 23,43 so we're in good shape but we had up to 10,000 to to transfer over if we needed to the budget is looking pretty good we have a little pocket of rural Aid that we will do some um we'll have to spend down um before the end of the month but we have some curriculum in the works and the the rest of the the budget looks pretty good I'm always amazed at how Jackie this is my third wrapping up a third year and shoots Berry and nothing is there we don't have a pile of money that we're looking to spend at the and we don't have a deficit at the end it's like it's carefully tracked until we end the year um with you know exactly as we planned for so I am so thankful for for Jackie I'm gonna miss her a lot and um I hope to see her again before she goes and that's all for my report thank you very much Caitlyn um so yeah in the absence of a principal's report um I guess we'd head on to unless an you have anything you'd like to share as the incoming principal um you're more than welcome to if you'd like sure I'm looking forward to um touching base with Jackie tomorrow um she's sort of doing a passing of the torch meeting so um we have a hefty agenda set to and I look forward to getting to know more of the details and how I can best support chots Berry of course over the summer I'm looking forward to having a couple of parent events and family events sort of like a community outreach if anybody has any suggestions or ideas of dates to definitely avoid or definitely go for please feel free to let me know um and I'm just I'm looking forward to hitting the ground running and getting ready for a really successful transition so there you go and I can't wait to see the kitchen very excited about that all right thank you very much an um so ammer pelum Anna is there I was gonna say is there anything going on down there but of course nothing nothing at all hold for a second I think Trevor has his hand up Trevor has his hand up sorry I couldn't see that thank you I figure that's why I want to jump yeah hi sorry I just need to get Ann's name um I haven't been able to find anywhere so I just need um your name for the minute s oh it's an Migel a Ann e and Migel is m a g i l l m a g i l l thank you you got it sorry we're moving that thunderstorm that hit earlier is now hitting us so sorry I'm like kind of that's around right now that's the yeah I'm watching it come across the lake out the window in front of me um oh and that bolt might have just hit the lake uh so yeah this um so okay so principal support into uh am TM representative Anna so so much fun um so now that we've sort of wrangled the 2025 budget um through the school committee I think we finally got approvals from amoris at the 6% level um they are going to be circulating a very angry not really angry but unhappy note um to say this budget is not sustainable and we have to figure something out for next year um so the outlook for the 20 25 26 budget is kind of dismal at this point um it looks like we're going to be losing you know we're something close to like another $1.2 million shortfall in what we need to have and so um unless the towns become overly generous or the state becomes overly generous or something miraculous happens um we're going to be looking at some additional Cuts next year but that's just sort of like a heads up for um what's coming down the pike um we have not been able so the we we had asked about you know what teachers are going to be cut we don't have any as early as possible but then the superintendent recommended that we don't release that information or try to get that information too early because we don't want to um encourage staff to leave before we need to I guess was the uh so um there's a balance between identifying specific positions as early as possible but not too early um the reason our budget is in such Dire Straits is in large part due to a bunch of unfunded mandates from the state and low you know State contributions that just aren't keeping up with costs um and it's not 100% like due to uh you know it's definitely not it's not due to the school district inability to manage the budget it's just that you know even staying the same level Services accounting for differences in student enrollment um we just aren't uh the revenue is not keeping up with uh costs so um the school committee created a new subcommittee that will be focusing more on the revenue generation aspect of the budget um we already have a budget coordination coordinating Community Committee that's really focusing on the expense side but this new committee is going to be looking at state aid it's going to be looking at possible grants and partner parterships with like UMass and Amber College um and every other ways of improving the revenue side of things and uh let's see um we're right in the middle of the superintendent evaluation process uh so we are Doug had requested that we actually do do the full superintendent evaluation so we've just collected all of the ratings from the different school committee members and we'll be going over the sort of condensed version at our next meeting I think that's about it oh we're still working on the track um yeah the they went to the finance committee and the Town Council in Amis to ask for um some restrictions being removed and then also some additional money um but right now we I think they did eventually approve the restrictions being removed from all of the money um so that we have the bandwidth to choose the plan that's going to work the best for us and then try to work with some like ad alternate portions of the plan that when we or if we are able to raise a a few some some more money from the the three smaller towns um we can add those extras um into the plan things like lighting and like some cement Moorings and things like that um anything else that you can sort of like decide to add in later um so that we can get the work started and do the bidding process in a season where it's favorable so um I think you know the four towns definitely need to start expecting that uh the regional school committee is going to be coming and asking for some additional funds for the track and field probably from the CPA but I think that's about it can I ask a question who like this angry letter that they want to like circulate is it like angry at the school committee like who are they feeling angry at because I just I do feel like you know at the four town meeting before like I feel like all of us small little towns stood up and said hey we can do this and then ammer was a little more slow so they're they're they're upset with the school committee they feel like they were told very late that that that this should have been discussed earlier um and that um we're spending too much much money and the problem is you know like you know if you want us to keep cutting 20 teachers every year we can keep doing that but then we're going to have a decimated school system that isn't able to deliver any education to its students so right we need more money because we don't want to lose that many teachers um and we didn't have the information that they needed and much earlier and so we couldn't come to them and say oh we need to do something different much earlier and so you know yes it would have been nice if we could have gone to them in February and said this is our plan but that wasn't the plan at the time and so right there's only so much we can do um and when you know it's it's one thing to say we're going to have to cut 20 positions and then it's another thing to say and then those positions are going to be the entire world languages program which isn't wa what that's not what they said but like you know we're going to dramatically affect the world languages program we're going to dramatically and they were just like kneecapping the special ed program and it's like this just we can't do this to our programs and so the school committee was like well we need more money and we're gonna ask for it so yeah I mean you and that's the tricky that's the tricky piece right because then you lose students who want those programs or need those programs and then it's a gowhere and then you have lower enrollment yeah right two Susie and then Jen I want to say that I am very supportive of some of the initiatives to have um various people from different aspects of the budgeting process to sit down together because I think one of the things that happened is there were a lot of people that didn't know much about the process both on the ammer council and on the school committee and it's been a very stressful year and there's been a lot of stuff trying to happen all at the same time so I believe um working together and talking together and I know some people feel there's a there's somewhat uh decisionmaking problem with having people work together but this year in shuberry we did the liaison for not only the school committee that we've done many years but all the Departments and we feel that having people talk ahead of time helps keep the process clear and um the finance committee Liaisons could begin to represent what was being discussed in the different departments to the fincom instead of just waiting for the one time the department came to present their budget and I would say that works both ways the Departments feel better represented and the fincom understands their position better and overall we accomplished a lot in this budget and I believe it's because of the increased conversations and and we were told we couldn't advocate for the people we were Liaisons but we could communicate and that is I think uh important step and when you look at stuff that's going on in Northampton it's clear that there needs to be better communication and it can't be two different camps fighting um it won't get anywhere so I believe ammer is working towards better communication and better cooperation in the planning stage and you know I don't think it's about blaming I think it's about here we are now and if we go in this direction my guess is that it'll work a lot better yeah hopefully we can start this earlier sorry no I was I was Sur I didn't realize until other school committees like lever and such were asking us I didn't realize how rare it is to have somebody from the finance committee Susan who's sitting in on these meetings but it makes things so much easier and I feel like we went to that fourtown meeting and the amorist finance Council wasn't even there it was like oh so like we can't actually even do anything here today because no one's here to represent that side of things um so I really just want to say again how much we appreciate your communication and you're being present here because it makes this such a better experience than what we have heard going on around us so Jen your hand is up as well thanks Jeremy yeah I was just wondering Anna um the $1.2 million deficit is that including the 6% from all towns or is that projected so that's for the next budget not this coming budget right um and I don't know exactly what he's so I asked him what like a a level Services budget would look like um and I think it's based on a 4% increase we'll still have a 1.2 because that's where the guard rails technically stand but I I I wouldn't want to um guarantee that that's what I meant thank you I appreciate it okay um always always enlightening uh Union 28 we have not met since our last meeting so our next meeting for Union 28 is next Tuesday the 25th is that next Tuesday yes next Tuesday the 25th is the next union 28 um meeting so we'll have a report at our next meeting um Jen CES are we so I I was unable to attend this month's meeting um well actually not this month last month's meeting so I will be attending this month's meeting which is coming up on the 26th and I'll have a lot more to report after that hopefully great uh thank you um so that goes through all of our reports uh policy review we've got our second reading in no sorry yes I didn't even see your hand I apologize yeah I remember because you didn't see Trevor and I was like oh that's fine um I'm on so I'm I'm at I'm in a alternative setting so I have this very small computer tonight so I'm like only seeing like four or five people at a time sorry go ahead um so we we did have our we did have our joint supervisory committee meeting on the 20th which was after the 16th when we met School Comm right sorry and I don't even remember what we discussed because we're gonna have the same problem again right so it happens right after yeah so it was a short as I remember it was a relatively short meeting for us Leah do you remember what we discussed I really have no recollection of it now okay I can it's okay I can give an update yeah I know you've had a lot of year end stuff going on so yeah um yeah so let's see there was discussion about iners meeting and whether or not we wanted to move to that um the group I think decided on staying virtual for now um um but the meeting time will move to 7 pm to give people a little bit more time between work and then um and then uh Karina gave an update on the principal position being filled interviews taking place um for the leate principal position and the director of student services position um and then recruitment for the exec assistant position um and then Caitlyn gave an update on on the the town meetings um and then uh Jeremy you gave an update on some of like the year end stuff happening I believe it was you of the year end stuff happening in in shsb um yeah and then the other towns gave updates on their year and stuff um and then the next meeting that we're having is September 23rd but um no because we're actually meeting June 25th yeah so I guess we're meeting June 25th and then we have uh and then we're off for the summer and then come back September 23rd and I mean I don't mind Jeremy if you want I can I'm happy to give updates because I just take notes for everything because I can't keep anything I gonna say typically I found my notes but yours were much more comprehensive than mine once I found them um so it I yeah I feel like this end of year for me with the negotiating committee and just my end of the year wrap up has been sort of discombobulated so thank you very much Leah I really appreciate it um yeah I think the one thing I remember too is is very clearly like Stephen I think was really advocating initially for us to come back into in-person meetings um and I should also mention that um this seems a good time to mention there was an all towns meeting and Susie I don't know if you went to it um but there was an all not all town like an all Town board and committee meeting um which I never actually received official notification of um I went back and forth with Grace and uh Becky on that a couple times I don't know how but I never got an email about it until the day it was happening um and Anna reached out to me as well asking if anyone was going so no one attended um from the school committee and the only thing I really kind of told Becky and Grace is that it seems like we would like to remain virtual for the time that um remains on uh at least the guidance that we're under right now so was the only thing I was really able to pass up and I haven't heard anything back about how it all went um but I will reach out this week and see if I can find out so um that would be the only other piece yes Susie so I did go um there was a couple of speakers from the fincom emphasizing reaching out to our legislators about um Chapter 70 um and the and the effects on so many towns it's not just a local thing um and we listed reasons we felt um the potential that the state will require hybrid that's one of the legislation filed we listed why that would be problematic um and then a letter went out from the select board saying requiring hybrid is not um helpful um we would have we would like each committee to make a be able to make a choice and so many committees want to stti stick to zoom and um there's no plan right now this the legislation that says maybe hybrid or saying hybrid should be um required does have some sort of funding scheme maybe not vote attached to it so it's pretty far down the road and um I don't feel like being afraid of a lot of extra things so I'd say that's not in the imminent time and they're getting a lot of feedback that people want to be able to do Zoom or hybrid or in person but not required thank you very much sus I appreciate it how were the based Goods that's the other question I had how were the what the baked goods wasn't there a bake a bake off as well a lot of baked goods showed up and people were enthusiastic if uh that was a that was a good that was a good uh a good carrot to try to get people there I thought um okay so uh moving on from our reports now uh we've got two policy review uh items we got a second reading first vote on motor vehicle idling on school grounds gifts to and solicitations by staff online fundraising and solicitations or crowdfunding uh staff complaints and grievances substitute professional staff employment negotiation goals negotiations legal status and school committee negotiating agents um so those are our second reading through um and we need to vote on those tonight so that means I'm going to need someone to make the movement and someone to second that as well Jen just on the car idling one um I have to look back at it again but uh first of all it says his or her car if we could change that to there because for obvious reasons um and then uh the other thing was just I don't I didn't see a time limit on there like most places say you know can't idle for more than five minutes um it seems silly to say you can't ever idle at all other than if you're in line waiting um I feel like it would be good maybe to put some kind of time constraint in there possibly I know they're silly things but also he or she there and um and a time okay I know I always feel like when I'm picking up like is it okay to idle right now make sure I turn my car off and start it back up like um okay so time limit so we should see what other language there is uh for those anything else um would that prohibit us from voting on it or can we just change the can we can we vote on it with that idea that that language changes does anybody have an idea this is where I feel woefully uh new and unprepared Kaitlin if you want to go ahead I was gonna say I'm not 100% sure but I know on other things we have made some exceptions like saying we these are with these changes we approve with these changes okay I would think that the first part changing um that his or her car would be an easy with that adjustment we can vote on it for the time frame I don't know because you haven't selected a time frame figured out what the time frame is yeah okay so um maybe we can take the motor vot motor vehicle idling on school ground one out of our voting for tonight and we can look at that at our next policy meeting and then uh change it and bring it back yeah Anna it says not to exceed three minutes in any 15 minute period or one minute in any 15 minute period for other motive so sorry that's why I said I needed to look back at it because I wasn't 100% sure I looked at it earlier and I didn't thank you thank you Anna for looking at that so then we can put it back in here with the uh you know vehicle changing the he or the she to there um and allowing for that change so maybe what we could do is vote sorry vote on that one individually and then um somebody could move to vote on the rest of them unless there's other comments on the other ones does anybody have comments on the others I also have some small stuff um okay I won't share it now but like I guess in general if we have like small stuff should we come to policy to to talk about it so I think typically what would happen is had you not just been elected the first reading we would talk about those things and the first reading doesn't get a vote and then the second reading gets the first vote and then there's the final vote so at any point along the process my understanding is we can change the language um like like I think like Caitlyn just said if it's small stuff we should just we should could change it when and just say we're voting on this with these changes yeah as amended this way um and then um yeah so we work our way through it in that in that manner so if you have small stuff in these that are you know grammatical small changes then we should probably probably get those out and and put them in here so we can so we could vote on them okay um my one small thing for these for um gbb um gifts and solicitations by staff and I noticed this in another one too um they have uh serve as a credit to the district and it just sounds really like Antiquated um so to make it more ours I was thinking we could change it to positively can give that can you give that to me again just so I can write it down yeah change credit to positively um second paragraph second line thank you okay and um for chca um change credit to positively second paragraph third line and then um hold on one that sorry okay um credit positively okay um and then the last one I don't really know if I mean it's just to kind of clean it up um in HB um it says or representatives and um we could just take that out and add an s in parentheses in front of behind the gotcha representative because I got tripped up on it and my brain say representative it says representative or Representatives yeah exactly you just change it to representative with us yeah yeah just in parenthesis okay yeah I'll I'll be back I'll yeah sorry I actually I I have to say I kind of like us having these kind of grammar and making it our own um pieces going forward um I have not served on policy until uh just earlier today so um we'll try to work those things in uh to our next meeting so I think that if we were to change I mean it doesn't seem to me although I don't really know uh the only one of those would be chca the approval of handbooks and directives that's our final vote um but I don't think that changing a word and keeping the meaning would prohibit us from making a final vote on that as long as we say amend it you know to amend it and then I'll relay that um so the only thing that's GNA be tricky about this is making the movements um so I guess what we'll do if we could do it this way um Can somebody move I'll feed it that's I'll do um could somebody move to uh accept the motor vehicle idling on school grounds um with the addition of there in the place of he or she so second all right so Jen moved Anna seconded all in favor Taylor I L by Jack ey her ey my UI I'll just go last all the time all right so that uh that passes so then the other one that has language change is um will somebody please move to have GB EBC gifts and solicitations by staff uh with the addition of uh the change of the word positiv no sorry credit to positively in the second paragraph second l so moved sorry Anna do you want we should probably just Pi one person to move and one person a second this is how we've done it in the past and kind of just rattle off and go easiest way um so all in favor Taylor I we should also probably create an order for us to vote in sorry was go after J long cope I I can go after long cope so Jack I heard I my UI so that passes unanimously okay so now we can nope sorry uh so we also have to move on uh on HB um negotiations do this one sure okay let me let me see if I can do it so um for HB negotiation on legal status um we would um move to approve right move to approve can I just interrupt for just a second um you've already laid out the emendations I've got them and so all you need to do is is to move the policy as amended okay all right great bam Trevor saves us all than you Trevor I'll let you take it back over then um well I I still need someone to move to to do it so move as amended okay so I'll move yes I'll move I'll move to approve um all of the is it second read policies um with those um those am amendments put forward yes perfect second all in favor Taylor ey long cope ey Jack ey herd ey Mayu ey yay uh unanimously passed all right so moving on to the final votes on uh administering medicines uh use of electronic messages all those pieces there was one here that was also amended uh GB EB nope is that right yes gbb NOP yeah that's right yeah it's on this one I thought so is it GB EBC or gbb it's just gbb there's a c and a D in the second okay so right and you have that Trevor you have that yes I moved to approve policy hold J Jen Taylor has your hand up sorry thank you sorry just one quick thing on that before we vote um it says about a school physician do we have a Consulting School physician not that I am aware of I just was wondering about that if that should stay in or we should take that out so I don't I thought we did have one did I not see I feel every school has to have one but I don't yeah does Caitlyn know which position I haven't seen the policy sorry physician oh physician yeah we contract uh with a position for the year yeah I think that that's okay so uh now Leah you can make the movement to accept those as amended okay so I move um that we approve the named policies for final vote um with the confirmed amendments second all right uh second by Anna all in favor blco by Jack ey heard ey myi all right so that is uh the end of that uh executive session um we put this in here so that we could talk uh strategy with respect collective bargaining but our next session is Monday um no July 1 thank you it's like I'm G to be on vacation next week uh July 1 is our next negotiating meeting and we're going to have an executive session before that to discuss bargaining so we will let that ride uh future business is uh in those negotiation meetings will be going ongoing throughout the summer it looks like unfortunately right now um policy committee will be June no it won't be it'll be September oh sorry guys um I just want to make sure I have the right date this is what I was trying to do earlier in our meeting covertly uh so it should be the 19th I believe right third Thursday would be the 19th of September um policy meetings policy committee will meet at 6:30 and the school committee will meet at 7 so uh Union 28 joint supervisory meeting is next um next mon Monday sorry again I think Tuesday 25th right June 25th but it's at 5:30 uh this this month um and uh actually Leah this one I will not be in attendance at so um you'll have to be the voter for us right on um so yeah and uh that would be about it do we have does anybody have any final points before we move to adjourn I will just say that I am loving this new school committee and say welcome to Anna to Ann I'm sorry thank you so much and I'm excited to have you aboard and thanks to everybody for making this fabulous and so easy second yeah yeah and let's we get a nice little break here and then we come back in September we start uh start slogging through it again um but I'm looking forward to it so all we need is a movement to adjourn I move to adjourn the meeting seconded all right seconded by Jen Taylor and we adjourn at 756 thanks you all have a great summer and I'll see you back here in September thank you everyone you thanks bye --------- e e [Music] what's up man just just a little bit of a learning curve here yeah all right are we recording yet I don't know yes we are okay I'm just going to quickly send a frantic email back off to Grace saying I found the login information there's no better time than 10 minutes before the meeting to realize that you're not positive that anyone sent you yeah the hosting information are we expect are we expecting Jackie or is it just us three today do we know oh um I don't I'm not sure I think expecting Jackie at the 7 o'clock meeting and I I just assumed she would be at the 6:30 but now that you ask I don't know why I assume that okay um just give it a minute here so what do we got we've got approval of minutes policies for review and that is all so I don't know because this is my first time on the policy um on the policy subcommittee Karina do you know um generally are we like I've read over the um policies for the review is there if do we typically sort of like when we do the readings at the school committee meetings do we um do we just vote like do we vote on them how does this usually go for this subcommittee my understanding for this right now is just review well approval of the minutes from April and then just re review as in like a read through of those three policies is my understanding so we don't necessarily have to do that out loud as long as we've read them on our own like that part I'm not sure okay I don't think I would think as long as maybe um I don't know what's the best way to do this if you've read them on your own and then so maybe it would be a matter of okay so poliy JF a educational opportunities for military children do we want to discuss that at all maybe okay in that manner okay so um I don't know if Nate have you looked over these um these policies y okay I looked over them yep all right so then let's first off I guess let's call the meeting to order um at 6:37 we're not sure whether um we have Jackie or not for this one because typically it's the subcommittee and the principal who's going over these things correct Kina I have attended some with Irving and it has been the subcommittee and I was there um and actually no the principal wasn't okay all right so it's us perfect so superintendent and the subcommittee um all right so call in the meeting to order uh so the first order of business is uh approving the minutes from April 11th 2024 do I hear a motion yes motion to approve all right so Nate moves to approve uh I guess I second it all in favor I I all right so we have approved minutes from April 11th 204 um so the policies for review are the educational opportunities for military children uh do we have any anything that we want to discuss around does anybody have anything they want to discuss around um that policy I don't it looked pretty straightforward to me yeah um I feel like the first two are pretty boilerplate and there didn't seem like there was anything necessarily um that I could add or think of with either one of those I feel like I do kind of want to pull up the student ABS absence and excuse one um again yeah was there anything you saw uh Karina in either one of those that you thought needed discussion no sorry I'm just pulling that up yeah so the the absentee it was basically just uh for sick days you know and um for a bereavement or something like this but that you had to check with the principal if there is another issue um and it had to be approved by the principal is that the idea yeah um Yeah so basically it's that obviously School import I just I was thinking of it just because we've been talking a lot about chronic absenteeism um recently and that was one of Jackie's big concerns coming into this year um but right illness or quarantine bereavement or serious illness in the family WEA so in Clement to endanger the health of the child and observance of major religious holidays and then also at the approval of principal or design and parents are supposed to provide a written explanation and then uh instance of chronic require physician statement okay yeah I mean I don't feel like there's anything here that I need to it all again seems relatively straightforward yeah so there is an issue uh with C chronic absenteeism that's idea well I mean that's separate from the policy I think just the fact that like with covid um there's just there there what has been uptick like I think last year we were kind of dinged sort of the mcast you know our our our accountability level is a function of many different things and part of that is attendance as well and so it's not just it's not just a chuts spy it's everywhere but like yeah there's a Statewide initiative right that's what I figured Co has resulted in a certain increase in sort of chronic absenteeism and part of that's because we've been telling people to stay home when they're sick and then right um you know then there's other things as well so yeah but this this seems pretty straightforward and it's pretty much you know what has been past practice what's practiced at my school um yeah I think the idea that in ele School your parent can excuse you unless it becomes chronic is also appropriate um so yeah I mean I don't know I don't have anything else to add to that yeah yeah sorry go Nate no you go ahead I they all seem pretty straightforward yeah policies and yeah and these are all these are all from the mass Association the school committees as well so right all right so uh I guess if we don't have anything to say about any of those things um that's all we have to do here right that's the idea right so uh do we have a movement to adjourn Nate I think I moved to adjourn the meeting policy proposal Mee we've got somebody in the waiting room hold on might as well say hi hi an oh we're waiting for an still weird says she's here here we go hi an oh can you hear yes hi how are you excellent hi you you just caught us we're about to adjourn that's how fast and efficient we were today you might be jealous I'm trying to blur out my background but um best Life currently so sorry so I should show you because I had this joke I'll show you guys because this isn't the general school committee meeting so I know that it is you know I know this is where I was going to run my meeting from I took a a picture and sent it to Bethany and I said what's the protocol for sending uh for having your meeting and and that was where I was gonna run it from right I think if you blur the background and I like I don't know I just feel like that's kind of not okay so I'm glad I've opened the door to new possibilities right I guess if the principal's doing it I can do it too I think I think it's a good practice it shows a good uh life work balance nice nice yeah this soste I'm in my childhood bedroom um anyway so we just went over we went over educational opportunities for military children and educational opportunities for children in foster care and student absences and excuses and we didn't have anything much to add to those policies so uh we were just going to adjourn and uh meet up for the regular school committee meeting in a few minutes okay great so I can just double check are we good with this or should I pretend I'm in my childhood bedroom too I can probably get that some Imes for you this is not pretend this is totally my childhood bedroom it's been overtaken it's I'm 47 and have a long I see it as when we are enjoying life we bring joy to our work yes I love that I absolutely love that yeah it looks like a thunderstorm is rolling in so I'll just stay inside but we will see you guys at so so Nate moved uh to adjourn the meeting I will second all in favor I all right I'll see you all in about 15 minutes see you soon okay by bye
