##VIDEO ID:tAK2S5T5psU## e e e e e e e um I will even though there's only one nominee I will take a vote just to make sure that we all get this so all those um in favor of me Colin Cox being board Chair say I I I any opposed passes 5 Z I just I so sorry to interrupt that's not the way this is set up so is there anything that you want me what do you need next well it says Motion in a second so should I just do the because nobody there was in don't need Nom the you don't you could just cross off so with all the other ones okay correct same same same goes for that sorry we're just going through this for the first time with um new staff and new people so we're trying to figure that out so yes that's correct yep okay so motions are now in order for the r a vice chair do we have any nominations for vice chair I nominate um director manini okay um I have a list of reasons I'll go over them okay sure and can I ask you before that do do you accept that I do accept that okay um so director manini helped me win a successful campaign that led me here she introduced and connect me to people in the community and a ton of resources she's been a successful clerk um two years on a financial advisor committee two years on deac been successful at spotting opportunity gaps and closing them she shown up been active and present um and she's been a dedicated teacher of 28 years I love that we have that lens on the board and isn't afraid to question uncertainties or go out into the community and reach the understood or um sorry reach the underserved or the unheard thanks yeah you're welcome um and I'm excited to serve I think that I am very grounded in my why um why I'm on the board and why I do the things that I do because I'm in the classroom every single day with students I work with parents and I work with Educators um I think we have a really tough spring ahead of us and having uh someone who has classroom experience as well as experience on the financial advisory committee is really important um as we walk through this and make some um decisions and yeah so to step up thank you all right I'm going to ask now are there any other nominations for the role of Vice chair it's two times any other nominations for the role of Vice chair all right then all of those in favor of director Mancini becoming our vice Chair say hi hi any oppos passes 5 congratulations Vice chair and cini that means we now have and we would have anyways of vacan at clerk so I'm going to ask are there it's now nominations for the role of clerk would be in order are there any nominations in the role of clerk Taylor uh I would like to nominate director Anderson for clerk okay um I believe she's well suited for the role uh she serves well as treasur and I very much appreciate the analysis she brings to the board and how she's consistently working to improve how the board functions uh both you know our roles uh in board meetings and also as school and Community Liaisons um I'm hoping we can Implement some of her suggestions she had for expanding the role of treasur um and I look forward to her taking that approach with the clerk role and see what she uh can bring with her valued insights thank you and I accept you accept great okay are there any and did you want to say anything else um outside of I just think this is a wonderful opportunity to learn a little more about like how this is operated and um Vice chair and chair's role and just hopefully I can grow into one of those seats one day so yeah thanks all right are there any other nominations for the role of clerk one more time are there any other nominations for the role of clerk okay then all those in favor of director Anderson becoming our clerk say I I any po passes 5 congratulations Clerk Anderson and um wel to the hisory to the wonderful world of being a clerk I think many of us have done it before all right that then again we have a a vacancy at the role of Treasurer so um nominations now would be in order now for the role of treasur do we have any nomination e accept um yeah I'm uh as I'm sure you're all aware I'm deeply committed to understanding the uh financials becoming our treasur say I any opposed passes 5 congratulations to all of our brand new officers new roles and the action items uh these again are items that we put on for the sake of people in the community to understand and for ourselves to understand in terms of what are our roles here and I I just have made um some some real um I'm just looking at this version here that's online here just to list out some of the different roles and kind of their place so we have some um uh uh District advisory councils that um we're parts of we have some school um uh and School parent advisory councils that we're part of and we Ser as the asons to those committees where we're here to help sort of communicate information back and forth between those those groups so serve as board members to share information with those groups as as needed but also to hear what their interests are and needs are and whether there might be a policy impact um we also have some member roles where we are um asked to do things like be on District strategic planning committee or be on organizations like amsd or um 287 School Board and those are where we take some more active roles in terms of um making you know being more uh influential in the comments and what's happening in the case of 287 it's actually serving on another board um and that's another tall order is you know being on two boards some for some of us it's a lot being on one board and and taking out that additional um uh responsibility is is quite great and then we have some other things like amsd that help us with certainly advocacy and other things as well and then there are the city commission appointments which um some of these are and we'll I think we'll be talking in some greater detail as we collaborate with the city to talk about the future of these appointments but we are able to appoint some people to different committees human rights parks and wreck planning and Tech advisory committee and um so those are all just great things we're grateful for everybody serving in those roles and appreciative of that so um for um it is recommended that the school board approve the propos school board the ason roles member roles and City commission assignments has presented um is there a motion to approve these so moved moved um by uh director manini Vice chair manini I have a second on that second second by uh can we talk about that I did not comment on that I mean I I wouldn't mind being a part of Bri works and to try to understand particularly if we're yeah to get a better understanding of how the funding for bright works works and like how it supports our school yeah so how they're to be on the board and based on some districts so they have four districts I believe and we're in District 2 and they and they're going to open that up I think by January 27th you need to apply by January 27th provide a bio and some information that will be sent out to breit Works members and then the people will get to vote based on that and determine whether you're on the full board do you want me to explain what bright works is to people that I think we can or any anybody well and please correct me if I'm wrong um daring No Child Left Behind the like and it was for students or excuse me um for school districts and schools who are not meeting adequate yearly progress under No Child Left Behind These Regional Schools were set up in order to there's all sorts of political ways that I could say that so they were just set up to support the student the the schools that um were not making adequate yearly progress what we know about how humiliating and terrible that process was is that now the regional schools have transitioned somewhat um and it's I don't understand all of the umbrellas where bright Works goes into but essentially what they're doing is they support um the teachers and the instructional side now in order to help uh districts meet yearly progress in different standardized tests the biggest uh Focus that Bri Works has right now is the focus on the read act and implementing um support measures in or putting support things in place for districts who are training their staff the reason why I have an interest in it is because I teach middle school and I'm part of cohort 2 so cohort cohort one for the redact was elementary school teachers cohort 2 is Middle School teachers because teaching reading at middle school is a little bit different than it is at um in the elementary level uh and there are some challenges presented about cohort too because we've run there's no there's not money um and so it's like what what happens next so I'm just that would be why I would be interested in being a part of it I I don't know I just I would need to learn more about the process and things like that but that's what yeah did I get most of that correct you you are on so I just share that as another opportunity that we have traditionally it was like we got to appoint somebody and um and I had often thought that it be should go for well I'm gonna I'll probably go for it because I'm like I have some questions yeah great br but that would be I think we have had have Celia it's that so um and land Grand look do have been left off yes okay and again these things are pretty flexible but for the sake of transparency for people seeing them out there in the community we do put it out here but if people have questions and need to change or make some you know accommodations we're always willing to do that so I just put it in our notes to add Susan lingren Y and director Anderson okay all right and technically I mean you could hand over the duties oh we can wait to the next it's up to you um we can let uh her get warmed up into the ru and learn a little bit more first but um okay e e e e e down and then eat day observed and so that just would put us at on a Thursday for a board meeting and we can always add meetings to the calendar if we need to but again I think we wanted to at least get these key dates out here and that would be our goal here so um any any comments questions on the dates Thanks for people's feedback thanks for looking through all of this really appreciate it and again these are the dates that we will publish and work off of for our meetings for the next couple of years here okay um all those in favor say I I any oppos passes 5 Z okay this brings us up to school board compensation um I don't know director Lo is coming up just to present on anything here but um before we do that it's recommended that the school board approve the recommended 2025 School Board compensation as presented um do we have a motion on that we move move by Celia do I have second second second by an okay um we have we do get a compensation we do get a small stipend for the work that we do and we've set it up with I think an automatic increase and mirrors what we have for our other contracts um the information is available online I don't um again it's it it if we got compensated for all the hours at a similar rate as a key director we probably we'd be making significantly more in um I know that we've struggled in the past of whether this is even enough for people who have limited resources and would be interested in one of these roles so we're appreciative I think that there's a STI in there always a question about should it be more um or you know some other things but this is what we have EST estblished and um unless there's there anybody have any questions about that I think we should say what it is I know I think we should say why so I I pulled it up 6,648 that is for the year Vice chair 6,95 um Vice chair Clerk treasur 6,95 and then the directors or not officers 5531 so that just to give an idea of like the amount of dollars we're talking about um the scale cuz I I think people are like what do you mean I like just don't know so um and I think that when we was it two two years ago I think we we passed a policy that would just give us give us an increase of like what um what the legislature gave to education and on the general formula so it's like if if if the general formula gets 2% we get a 2% increase so obviously a 2% increase on like $6,000 is a huge dollar amount but it it kind of allows us to um keep up a little bit um without having to have like big jumps which is what was happening before we were kind of like we would lag and then we'd be like oh we have to make a huge what felt huge I mean again it's not a huge dollar amount but when you're it would be like 10% well again that's not a huge amount of money but it when you say 10% it sounds like a lot so this gives us you know just a little bit of a boost every year um provided that the legislature gives education to boost if they got zero we would get zero that's and that's how that's how it works so I think it's also important to point out that that we got paid like what we going a stien we were just volunteering our time but as I have been a part of the board um you know we meet twice a month but there's so much more work that goes into being on the board um not only do we get our board packets on Friday afternoon yay um so we have a weekend to do our research and to do our work we also serve on the boards and um commissions that were just mentioned um and I'm lucky that I have a 16-year-old who has a driver's license so if I had to find Child Care um to to do this I couldn't do it um so I think that it's important that to keep it viable for everybody to be to feel as though that they could run for this and know that they have some way to um to like cover the cost of whatever it might take to volunteer for your community because I I'm doing this because I believe in my community I want to be a part of it but it's also um you know I think it's important work and deserves to be recognized as such again I than like the work of director k serious look at this and our continued sort of commitment to continuing to discuss and think about it and give it some thought and I think we even did some evaluation too of other boards and again like many of our things we're somewhere around in the middle I think we're not at the high end and we're not at the lowest end but um with many of our things I was shock the other day to I went to a sporting event and discovered that wow it cost more to go to some sporting events at other schools and it does at ours seriously it is a benefit to be kind of in the middle but um so again um and uh we're appreciative that there is this compensation so um with all of that then all those in favor of the compensation as has been shared say hi any oppos passes 5 Z okay this brings us up to school board um listening session dates it is recommended that the school board approve the following dates for the 2425 Schoolboard listing sessions February 10th 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. virtual and April 22nd 2025 5: to 7: p.m. do I have a motion to get this discussion by Celia do have second I'll second it um these are dates I think that time um I'm not sure about the February one but I know that April I mean part of the intention is that the April one would be before board meeting and the idea would be that that might also TI some budget kinds of things or releas just some other dates um those are other dates okay they're just okay dates in general all right so these are the two dates uh 5: to 7:00 p.m. virtual and April 22nd 2025 any further discussion about this we tried I guess we tried some informal um listening sessions these would be more formal in the sense that they would be just us doing these so again the virtual one should be obvious but the other one would be I think in this room we would do it in this room and it would be um the intention is that anybody could come in and be a part of that and we' have discussion with them so much how we've been in the past so all right uh all those in favor say I I any oppos passing 5 Z that brings us up to organization of the school board the school board is mandated to have an organizational meeting each January which we're doing today the school board will address and be requested to approve for the purposes of organization of the school board and designate the following organizational business items designation of official newspaper of the school district Des designation of depositories electronic fund transfer authorization authority to make investments authority to disperse salaries Authority for early claim pay payments Authority or authorization to purchase appointment of a deputy Clerk and Deputy treasure check signatures appointment of school attorneys resolution appointing Schoolboard District responsible Authority it is recommended that the school board approved the January 2025 organizational business items and resolution designating School District responsible authority to Dr Carl Andrea Hines superintendent has presented do I have a motion to do so so move moved by director Casey do I have a second second by director Mancini okay any discussion on this I mean this is staff to do this other school boards may not necessarily and they may assign some of these duties to actual school board members um but we have the benefit of having those additional staff people to do this so questions comments all right with that um all those in favor say I I any opposed passes 5 z um then it uh is uh we are ready for adjournment uh do I have a motion for adjournment so so move do I have a second second second okay then we are adjourned at 7:01 or well all those in favor of adjournment I guess do we have to vote on adjournment no okay I call for
