I know everybody here does, but for anybody watching in the city of St. Paul Park, Pete Kerner has been the chief of police or I guess what was your title? >> Director. >> Director of public safety at the city of 7 00:05:23.680 --> 00:05:40.160 Cottage Grove. Pete has been with city of Cottage Grove and grew up around here. >> Um, and how many years were you with the city of Cottage Grove, Pete? >> July would have been 34 years. So July would have been 34 years. I've known Pete for a lot of years um during his service and mine and even prior to that, 8 00:05:40.160 --> 00:05:56.400 both of us growing up in this area. Um I wanted to take the time since Pete is retiring um to let Pete know how the council and I and the citizens of the city of St. Paul Park appreciate your service not only to the city of St. Paul 9 00:05:56.400 --> 00:06:12.400 or the city of Cottage Grove, but your partnership for the city of St. Paul Park. um for years, many many years past and many, many years to come, our cities have all worked together um locally with our PDs, fire departments, our city 10 00:06:12.400 --> 00:06:28.639 councils, our staff. Um we've always worked well together and I just felt that especially over the last several years. Um Pete has been a great partner to the city of St. Paul Park. um making sure and having his guys help us out in 11 00:06:28.639 --> 00:06:45.120 certain situations and always being there to have an ear or lend a hand. Um most recently, Pete helped us in the hiring of our new police chief, Scott. Um and was more than happy to step up and say, "I'll take part in that to help you guys move forward along with 12 00:06:45.120 --> 00:07:01.039 others." But that's just taking the time out of his own life to help his neighbors. And that's the kind of selfless um giving that Pete's always done. And so I wanted to make sure that um as a council and as a city, not only do we recognize our own, but we 13 00:07:01.039 --> 00:07:17.520 recognize others that um work for us, with us, and who care about us and care about the prosperity of our citizens. So I could keep rambling, but I'll just get to this part. This is a proclamation honoring Chief Pete Kerner. Whereas 14 00:07:17.520 --> 00:07:34.400 Police Chief Kerner spent most of his life serving the greater South Washington County communities. And whereas Pete was a longtime friend and partner with the city of St. Paul Park. And whereas Pete lived a life of service and hard work, wearing many hats throughout his law enforcement career 15 00:07:34.400 --> 00:07:49.599 and mentoring dozens of law enforcement officers along the way to include our own St. Paul Park Police officers. And whereas Pete loved working with the community members to solve all manner of quality of life issues. Also, if you um have produce uh the the traditional farmers market fair, um we would love to add to our list.
