We discussed the you UPS for the most part so there's not a lot for me to really to give you tonight, but I do have a This day in history moment. I'd like to share this day in American history. The British general Burgoyne surrendered to American troops at the Second Battle of Saratoga. This Victory persuaded the French to recognize American independence and to openly provide military resistance, eventually leading to British surrender in 1781, just wanted to get that out. But I do want to advise of our next meeting for the DAAC, which is on November 7th, that the Widefield High School library at 6 p.m. Thank you, ma'am, Miss Walsh. Hello. So since I missed last month I'm going to read last month's for Security Public Library things that you miss. So they did eight weeks of summer reading and for the kids between preschool and fifth grade and some adults attended that but they have four thousand five, hundred and ninety-three. That's just the kids that showed up for the summer reading, all summer long also they had a wiper 937 teens that wasn't Including our teams that showed up for their weekly team program. Betty was out and about when school started for the back-to-school days as well as teachers school. You know meet the teacher and back-to-school nights that they had. So they went to several different elementary schools around and I'm sure you saw Betty and the parade out there Betty is on the go. So if you want to know the schedules where Betty would be in your community, your area, or your school just go online, they said they have it. All set up for you. Oh, also the library has purchased a poster Banner sign printer and along with a large laminator. So if you have posters you want made or some banners or you know you're having a yard sale or something and they will charge a small fee for that so you can go over there and get your yard signs me. So that's October's news. November's news the most important, the book sale Starts tomorrow, if you remember, but it starts Saturday morning from 9 to 4. So, go in, we have books in their hardbacks are a dollar. Paperbacks are fifty cents. The children's books are 25 cents. They have audio books, and some video things that they're not using anymore, so go into the library. And if you remember, you get to come in Friday night, the 19th and that would be from 6:00 to 8:00 on with Oh, brr, they're back at their regular schedule for story time. Outreach teen activities. Messy art, crafts and play and storybook Symphony. And also, they set up something online, a survey. If there's something in there Makerspace that they're not offering, and you would like them to offer it, please go online and fill out the survey. Or if there's a time, that doesn't fit your needs, please put that in there so that they were no. And they can try to arrange where you can take a class there. And then Shannon and Sara Dee are helping with the stem programs. In all the junior high schools, they're going around to the different schools October 26. From 10 to 2, over Security Public Library, will be the take-back day for drugs. You can bring in all your old prescription drugs or any type of medication. DEA agents will be there, taking medication with no questions asked. October 26th. The also, the Faith Lutheran Church. They always hosts an annual spaghetti dinner and this year, the proceeds, and it's going to be on October 25th at five and all the proceeds would go to the security public library and then November 2nd will be the annual fall, craft fair. This event is only for homemade crafts, no direct sales companies only $5 fee to hold your table. They also have food trucks out there. So it's going to be a big event. And that would be November 2nd. That's cute. Thank you, ma'am, mr. Duck operationally. I mean, with Dave Gish once a month and at least and that's the, that was a week ago, the second Tuesday of each month and I'm not so sure, it's just him and I but I got to thinking if some individual any of us, any of you guys, probably anybody that wanted to sit in on that could we could probably work work that out is very interesting if you're interested in that kind of thing, but Mr. Gish operationally. And along with facilities, I mean amazing that don't work. They continue to try to sort out priorities of all the needs that happen with our buildings. And I know that back on September 25th, he ran a meeting. Long range planning meeting. And I know he does three or four of those a year. I think the next one is November 20th, I believe, but he brought out a facilities Improvement, plan that long spreadsheet that has every building, every school has a column of what all the needs are and as you and I know the needs continue to grow and we have Billy's just keep getting getting older but really Eating how I think, how, how best priorities are set for anticipating, what what to fix next? And I know they've been working on boiler controls. That's become a big one to adjust, heating and AC. But boiler controls, I think Mesa Ridge is the big item coming up that they're going to work on. All those going to take a while to get the parts but that's under order. I believe there's four Or other schools that will be, they'll be working on with part of that came came about by way of money. That was coordinated through the best grant money that we receive. So that was good. Let's see, the other major items are I believe next week? Mr. Gish will be going around to meet with principals. He's he'll probably spend a month going. He'll schedule meetings with different schools over the next month and a half. Probably to really get their priority list as far as capital repairs and projects and I believe we all end up looking the looking at that list as it gets more torque January. February along in there. Yeah. And last but not least, this building on the outside. If you got here before dark, you probably maybe see the stucco has been nicely, redone and painting and and it was something that we had talked about for the last year and a half two years. And so that's that. Finally got done. I think they're done with it. But anyway, it looks really good. That's all I got for now. Thank you, sir. We can move on to his room. Thank you, ma'am. And I'm betting. You're Gonna Wanna move one forward. I am, I would like to separate out a den de item for Jay. Please do okay. It is recommended the Board of Education approved. I mrs. Walsh. Hi. This is West. I thank you time for public comment any Resident or employee of wide field School District three as welcome to address the board of education at this time on items pertaining to education and or the operation of the district. Such questions should be referred to the superintendent. Another time. Total time allowed for public comment will be limited to 30 minutes and it's requested that each person limit their comments to no more than five minutes. This is a professional meeting in which district business is conducted board policy KFA public conduct on school, property, prohibits profanity or verbally abusive language behavior in and outside of this boardroom and on all district property is a model for student served in the wide-field District 3. So with that said, we had one member sign up when dolphin Maybe the technology will work. Hello? And good evening. I appreciate the efforts of mr. Kutcher, and Miss Walsh to be responsive to the needs of the lgbtq members of our community. We need more of that. I'm equally surprised that we have to continue to call out other members of the school board for their failures on this issue, particularly after so many Many repeated attempts to educate you and request that you educate yourselves. At the last meeting, we had Tina West and David. Doc pass a resolution with a protest or a caveat attached to it. This was in regards to the new Title, Nine recommendations from the State of Colorado based on federal law and federal court rulings. I was listening at the last meeting where Miss West voice to concern that complying with this Federal mandate could be in violation of the Constitution since title Mine is a long-standing part of federal law passed by Congress signed by the president and tested by the courts. I am concerned about your understanding of the Constitution Miss West. I suspect many of our very talented Civics teachers in the district would happily explain to you the nuances of that document and the various roles and responsibilities of the branches of government. I'm sure they can also help explain the Constitution's separation of church and state. If that is also an issue, do you struggle to understand? In preparation for getting up here. And speaking to you all, I read the new Title, Nine guidelines, for the state of Colorado, that sorry that the state of Colorado recommended. There are some interesting changes. I'm wondering if these changes are the real reason you chose to make complaints. About these policies in the past Title, Nine complaints had to identify problems that are both severe and pervasive moving forward. The new guidelines say that they only have to be either. So Severe or pervasive one of the other not both, this is a big change with substantial implications for the school district and the actions of the board. In my view, we have school board members who have ignored and continue to ignore the needs of the lgbtq community. This seems to meet the definition of the definition of pervasive. Your actions are now bordering on discrimination against the LGBTQ members of our community. I believe mr. Doc is correct in warning that this may create legal ramifications for the district. But he's wrong about where the legal Jeopardy. Lies Title, Nine violations have been litigated extensively. So there's both a clear roadmap for suing you and well established precedence. This is not an issue that you can sweep under the rug. This is not quote, a fad mr. Dock, these are people who you need to respect. If you choose to remain in this position, thank you all. Have a good night. Thank you, sir. Moving on to administrative reports, Amy were back to you. So, I have our hiring report for the 2425 school year to present to you tonight. Thank you. You can see till that one gets up. So to start us off, we are hiring season, typically kicks off in January and concludes when we have all of our positions hired. Fortunately, this year that was in August last school year. It wasn't, it didn't end because we didn't fill all of our positions. So it was a great success this year. As you can see, we hired 111 new New to The District staff as compared to last year when we hired 172. So that number is considerably down. In terms of positions, we hired 156 positions. Meaning the difference, there are people that we have employed, all we had employed last year that we re employed or people moving positions. So new to The District 111 licensed staff members. Here's the breakdown of what that looks like and you can see that compared historically back all the way through the last 10 years. So 34 Elementary 17, Junior High 26, high school. We hired one new counselor to administrators that were new to the district and then teachers or sped teachers and SSPs 33. So that's bed. Teachers, like social workers, OT PT nurse that's that's what that cohort is. Percentage-wise in. This is where we see our differences come in. So, I, in our is anyone, that was hired after effective, teaching through November 1st and we haven't hit that date yet. So anyone that's licensed appropriately, licensed in hired after effective teaching and before November 1st, get an INR and that's called an intent not to renew. And what that means is that the year still counts for them towards their professional license, Words, non probationary status but they do have to reapply for their job at the end of the year. That's what INR is. Alternatively, licensed our staff that don't have a license for where they're teaching. So maybe it's a long-term sub position. It's someone that's in an alternative licensure program, all of those differences, and the reason that you see a jump in an asterisk, there is in the past. The only thing that was reported on Are individuals in an alternative licensure program and starting in 22:23 we started including all of the different people that are long-term subs and all of the different areas in that we hired 20 out-of-state individuals, from 13 states which is a little bit down from the number of states. We are just seeing a lot more staff members that when we go to out-of-town job fairs they want to the candidates want to stay. A where they're at. We, you know, we've got lots of sunshine. We've got battens. We've got skiing. Yeah, I'll stay where I am. So, we're working on different things to help that, and our overall turnover percentage is down from the past as well. Well, the recent past post Colvin passed, it to 18%. So, we are pretty excited about that as well. Here are the states, the breakdown of states, where we hired from, as you can see, Besides Colorado, Texas is our big winner as we got eight from there. All of the other states. Just one one little fellow. So I just, I think it's interesting how that broke down this year or fella. I'm hiring we hired 24% males and 76 percent females. So again, a little bit, little bit of a different breakdown. Here are all of the things that we have done to try and increase our candidate pool and continue to do. And we continue to work. For example, our third bullet partnership with handshake, handshake is a, it's an online platform for college students. 75 percent of college students in the US are on this platform. We actually just had a meeting with them today. Talking about different ways that we can get students engaged with our organization. Having an online profile for them in ways. We can start reaching out to sophomores and juniors even to try and kind of get them and teach them what it's like working in Widefield and what they can do to get here and all the services we have to help and provide. One of the things that we do that is a little bit unique. That other districts don't do, is we partner with a realtor firm that if someone moves here from out of state, they will connect with them. They will help them find apartments. Or they will help them find housing or they will help them buy a house. So someone that that even that was an employee in the district. So knows the district well and connects with them early has greatly helped in that in that. So that was something that is different that we do. Our ethnicity hiring, we continue to go to job fairs, that are at hbcus and we've also started going to job fairs that are at HS. I HS, I so highly has spent Hispanic serving institutions to try and create a diverse population of teachers because we want the teachers, we want our students to be able to identify with teachers and it's important to have the students. Have someone look Like them and have someone from their background. And so, that's something that we work really hard in HR to do another place that we actually get a lot of our teachers from, it's one of our pools, which was another meeting we had today with UCCS, is our student teachers. We take great pride in getting as many student teachers as we can and then growing our student teachers and teaching and helping them learn. And so this past year we had total of 22 placed. We hired 12 which was a 54%. So those other ones that we didn't hire some were were here for college and had every intent to go back to their home state. Some were boyfriends, and Military and move and all that that stuff. And then there were some that we didn't feel like met the expectations that we have in Widefield. So while we want our student teachers, we are also Discerning in. We want the best for our students. Our non-licensed hiring looks quite a bit different this year. We saw our hourly rates get surpassed by area school districts. We believe that's what the impact was here. As to why we have had to hire more staff in our non-licensed positions of our transportation. You see 19 of those all but to our bus drivers we have one bus monitor and one mechanic. But all the rest, our bus drivers. And so that's something that we continue to work towards trying to find a solution to of getting qualified bus drivers in. Our Guest staff, we work every day as well to try and beef up our guest staff. So when teachers have to be out, we do have a high quality person before them to help with the instruction. We're currently at 140 staff members guess staff members. That number helps that number is a pretty solid were, they're coming regularly there. Subbing in the past, we had a bunch of people on the list but some of them never stopped or we had a bunch of people on the list and they would go to Fountain every day and not come to us. So this is the 140 is were pretty solid wide field people and then our guest da staff which is one that we struggle with the most, we have lots of openings in those per day. We have 44 guest staff members and part of the reason for that is because when we have someone that we hire as a guest staff, EA and they're loving the position, they're liking their job, Job. As you saw on the previous slide, we hire a lot of EA's and so we say, hey, you're doing a great job, you're loving it. How about if you come work for us. And so that's where that's where some of that guess t. A discrepancy comes in because we want them to work for us too. That's the hiring report I do. I do want to shout out to the human resource staff, who work tirelessly year-round to not only recruit retain on board, get contract signed, get paid quotes done. I mean, you name it. They do it for all of our new staff. So I just want to shout out to them, and all their hard work. You have any questions? You don't have to know the answer to this right now. But I am curious of the 140 approximately guest staff. Do we know an average of how many are called in on a daily basis. We average between 80 and 90 absences a day. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Good evening, Miss Howe, good evening on September 16, 2024 the superintendent sent a copy of the term of agreement, for the employee input. Process.
