and families of school uh students in uh Woodland Park would join us in saying thank you board for your selfless work your long hours the incredible burden that you carry and overseeing the school district we appreciate you so much thank you thank [Applause] you thank you Mr W okay first item approval approval of the agenda uh do I have a motion for approval motion to approve the agenda second second R call please all please um actually can I just wanted to make a motion real quick to add discussion I um just for looking for an update on actions taken from the both last month on the deck no but last uh we voted to I I I'll speak to that in a moment you want to make a motion to add it yeah to the agenda do we have a second second all right well let me let me begin with this I did say last month that I would look into a couple of issues and I've got some notes Here here bear with me I'm going to read some of them um this issue was raised at our last meeting and I explored whether or how we need to respond number one I asked legal counsel who then conferred with the Attorney General's office and was informed that the state and the CDE Car Care only if the daak is performing its functions and have no interest in its composition this statutory intent is to ensure that the persons working for the superintendent are not disproportionately don't have a disproportionate voice in the DC recommendations further the purpose of avoiding someone employed by a school has to do with the district HR issues and that this is not a problem when the employee is at a charter school with with separate a with a separate HR Human Resources we use the best efforts to find the right people our Dak has functioned well and at this point we are Beyond halfway through the through the year this cycle and there's no reason to revisit this further until next year this has been my position in the past um I I spoke to some of the members of the Dak and uh it would have been difficult to do this transition one potential option for uh a change with someone that was just at their First Act meeting and they weren't able to to attend the entire meeting uh the daak is functioning well we had a very good meeting at our last meeting so with that uh I don't I don't think we need to do anything different respectfully we voted as a board to take action at the last meeting the vote passed we need to take action uh well we'll vote on whether or not you we'll take a vote now whether or not we put that on the agenda as a as an action as an action item or as a discussion item she said discussion a discussion yeah I thought that's what I'm just asking the motion I made was a discussion item added to the agenda so that we could get an update on the actions taken on the vote that we passed at the last meeting and what you just said you're saying you're vetoing our Vote or you're trying to I I don't want to put that on the agenda tonight I I just gave response to why to where we're at on this but I also don't want to get into a long discussion about this at this time right which is why we should add it to the agenda so we can discuss it at the proper time well then let's let's go around and call a and call a roll call hi beats n Kimo no Patterson no rer Holtz I we voted we voted on this last month how can you just say you're not going to do something that we voted on as a board go ahead there was no motion made in the last meeting and there was no vote there was not there was discussion there was an attempted uh arrival at consensus but check your minutes reporting there was no vote I was going to say at that last meeting I did Comm to looking into this further that's as far as it went see that's that's where I thought there was going to be a discussion is that you were we had discussed you were going to look into it and you gathered more information and I was looking forward to having that presented publicly at the meeting of what you just what your fact finding was to you know so that we could have a public discussion about it well and and I just I just presented that we voted not to put that on the agenda if this is left un un un unresolved we will have to address it again but I just read through I did do the research that I said that I would be doing okay can just I mean what is the source of the resour of the what's your information just I'm just well I went and talked to council again about this because I had shared at previous meeting that that there was no repercussions for that I I openly said here at this meeting meeting that we we had made a mistake and we will correct that mistake this next year but I did not want to interrupt the progress of the Dak this year for that reason so we did admit that we do need to make a change right and and that was part of the discussion Mr voted not to have this discussion well we we'll we'll have to continue this discussion we just voted not to put that on the agenda oh yes Bates I gimell I Patterson I hols no okay moving on moving on I want to take a moment to recognize some truly outstanding achievements by our Middle School band students these young musicians have that was my hope okay uh next item public comments public comment Please be aware that any Personnel or individual student matters are considered confidential under Colorado law and it is out of respect of the law and our employees and students that we require these discussions to take place privately in executive session individual comments are limited to 3 minutes or a total of 15 minutes for a particular topic the intended public comment is to give the Board of Education the opportunity to hear your comments however the board will not will make no decision or take no action on the public comments during the meeting have you got some on the list all right how many we we have five okay and and Valero good evening president superintendent Whit and members of the school board thank you for allowing me the opportunity to speak tonight I'm here as a parent and advocate for a special for special education students in our district over the past couple of months I have reached out multiple times regarding the transition of special education services to Woodland Park administrative unit and its partnership with Creek Victor School District while I appreciate Mr rer hold's acknowledgement of my email emails it is concerning that neither he nor anyone else has been able to provide concrete answers to the critical questions I've raised we are now in the second semester and parents are still in the dark about how this transition will unfold families are left wondering about um Staffing adequacy compliance measures resource sharing and most importantly how their children's IEPs and accommodations will continue without disruption these are not minor concerns they are foundational to the success of our children's education clear and timely communication is essential in ensuring parents can effectively prepare and advocate for their children as of today I have sent my questions three times without a response this lack of communication creates uncertainty and distress in the process leaving families feeling excluded from decisions that deeply affect their children's Futures additionally there are new questions that require answers such as whether chance light has already begun in min during the place program or if that will begin next school year these details are critical yet there has been no communication to clarify them I urge this board and administration to prioritize transparent and consistent updates to families we need to work together to ensure this transition is seamless and that our students do not suffer due to lack of planning or communication parents deserve to be partners in this process not spectat Spectators thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon with meaningful answers to these urgent concerns thank you thank you Dana Kramer hi um cler appearent in the district um I was want to thank you ly and positive discussion about the CDE and I just wonder what happened to doing the right thing like you were convicted last week but not this or last month but not this month about doing the right thing about C of the deck like why why do you only care if there's no repercussions it doesn't doesn't make it right and um is it is it wrong to run a red light only if you get caught and you get a fine um like please like look inside your heart like our our Merit Merit teachers are public school teachers and they have a say they have a spot on the deck they do and like I don't understand how you can feel convicted a month ago but not tonight um so anyway thanks for your discussion last month that seemed very very productive um let's do the right thing um well you know you kind of threw me I want to I want to give some thanks tonight um first of all Miss Sue Patterson for coming to events for I saw you at the LI wi in the wardrobe at the band at the um choir ccer thank you your presence there means a lot um I also want to give some thanks for some of the amazing staff that you guys hired um so Dr Richie thank you for being a pillar at the secondary campus you are very inviting to all of us parents um and easy to communicate with um I want to thank and recognize um Michelle Eastman for her excellent job at being just an amazing Middle School principal assistant principal um she is just she's funny she connects with the kids um I just love to see her um engagement with the kids um it's just it's heartwarming to see the respect that they have for her and that she connects with them um I also want to recognize uh Landa seabolt um you know it was really difficult leaving Gateway but Landis has been just a a light and a hope um sorry just two more um Kay still here um she my kids only have glowing things to say about her and she this woman Works more than any other teacher I know she's when there wasn't enough time for middle school jazz uh as a class she made it an after school program and works long hours um you know what happened tonight all these kids they're amazing and then last but not least security guard Clayton Peterson um I think he's the newest to the team and he is fantastic and the kids aka they all I I didn't know his name forever uh they call him Sigma cop that's likeing for like the bomb um or um officer gritty because he does the gritty dance um anyway like what an honor anyway I still very safe with him there appr Roger hi my name is kersed Rogers I have a senior and exchange student at Woodland Park High School uh I just had a quick comment request tonight regarding the agenda item discussion around upcoming board retreat my request is that you consider a facilitator for the upcoming Retreat that is less FOC focused on charter schools and who has experience with traditional Public Schools I attended the retreat that was facilitated by Bob schaer at the public library up here and honestly I was extremely disappointed um I was disappointed from the start when Bob's own introduction of himself included a story of him giving up on traditional Public Schools after attending only the openhouse event for his child's kindergarten classroom and I'm going off memory and it was a few years ago so forgive if that's not exactly correct but that was the spirit um and he continued the whole day with the myopic lens of Charters being Superior to traditional public schools and honestly I found it far too one-sided to be helpful or productive uh I did not attend the Last Retreat with facilitator Ross iard which was I don't know if you guys remember Monument or Castle Rock I'm not sure but um what I can glean from is bio that Ross is a public policy analyst with a focus on Charters and now some work with private schools as well so I'm asking you to consider a facilitator with experience in and an appreciation for public education someone who believes in what we do someone who is a champion for the system of Education that we have developed that does not include applications or lotteries or weit lists and is there to serve all students I also think that some facilitation around really exploring why families are choosing to leave our district is crucial we lost over 120 students between this school year and last school year my daughter being one of them I have heard superintendent wit say that people are choosing other educational options because public education is falling out of favor that is not the case for my family or the many families who are lined up at the Crista to bust their kids down to a different public school I heard Mr wit suppose that it is because we like distractions and Woodland Park is too laser focused on academics for the likes of our family I can assure you that is not the reason I think some honest introspection on your part and the development of a concrete plan to First understand the families making these choices and then a planned effort to bring them back should be an integral part of your next Retreat thank you thank you Aon hrom good evening evening I Rise ton make because I want to speak on where were we in 2020 you I hear a lot about the board bad the Dak bad but let's go back to 2020 when our constitutional rights were being eroded by the board we chose them to stand up and take back this board and since that time what we achieve that Charter back there in the wall 18 in the state right our percentages are going up Academia is increased this is good things you can nitpick on everything and anything because there is never going to be a perfect board there is never going to be a perfect school why because as long as we have flesh and these human beings that we're called have something to do with it we're going to mess it up because we're flawed beings but let's look at the good let's look what we have achieved Unity is what brings us together are these next four years going to be great sure is there going to be lots of turmoil yes we need to come together as a Unity as a community and I think by picking at the deck that's Petty because in October there was only two of us who volunteered to to be the chairman of the dck there was no one else who wanted to do it now we want to kick off the chair and the co-chair why if people wanted to be a part of the deck they should have been here and filled out the application in September been there at the training in October and then volunteered to be on it and you would have got to voted in because I didn't get voted in to be chairman that's okay I'm here as a concerned Citizen and parent prior parent because 77 million or is it 177 million I don't know a bunch of Americans said we're sick of woke ideology we're sick of focusing on things that destroy our children and don't raise them up to be Future Leaders of our country this Ford has done that and I am appreciative for it now I know y'all have thick skin because well politics is a blood sport and yall like blood so thank you thank you for what your service your dedication to put up with the headaches the back biting the backstabbing anyone anyone who's standing behind can always look and pick out faults but when you're there at the tip of the spear fighting the fight it's a different story so I hope that the board does not allow any of this backbiting nitpicking to affect you or put you down instead hold your head up high and look at what our children are achieving and that's because of you thank you thank you Chad and Alice chess Chad and Alice chess there may have been some confusion and they signed up just thinking that it was a signin sheet so we only had four of the speakers very good thank you all right thank you uh moving moving on uh the consent agenda I'd ask for a motion for for approval of the consent agenda I move who have a second second Lo call Barkley hi re hi h i patteron i rer hols i cares okay next item in action items uh a meeting notice resolution uh this is annually at the first meeting of a new year the Board of Education must approve a notification of meeting place resolution and uh this is a annual thing that we do every year I can read the resolution if need be if not we'll we'll vote on it as presented we need to read it don't we I certainly can notification of meeting place whereas the Colorado Sunshine act CRS 24-6 422b declares that all meetings of three or more members of any local public body at which any public business is discussed or at which any formal action may be taken are open to the public at all times whereas the Colorado Sunshine Act CR CRS 24-6 422c requires a full And Timely notice to be posted in a designated public place within the boundaries of the school district not less than 24 hours prior to the meeting and whereas the Colorado Sunshine act CRS 24-6 422c requires the public place for meeting notices to be designated at the first regular meeting of each calendar year therefore be it resolved by the Board of Education of the Woodland Park School District re2 as follows that all Public Notices of meetings of the Board of Education of the Woodland Park School District re2 will be posted on the district website as well as on the bulletin board in the entryway of the administration building at 155 pantherway Woodland Park Colorado in case of technical issues do I have a motion for approval I move second second roll call I Bates I hell I Patterson I rer Holtz I motion carries next item uh uh the 2425 Revis budget and appropriation resolution Mr B president bites other board members attend so I wanted to advise you this evening that we will not have a resolution to revise our budget because we have new information from car Department education on Monday that is very positive news it actually gives us more income in our budget so we'll actually have to revise it again uh in addition it also impacts our cash flow which we will be using for the interest program that I brought to you last for meting so we won't have pass on either a or either b or c and so the information be revised and brought back to you at the next thank you thank you okay we have no motions on that uh next item resolution authorizing the district's participation in the state Treasures interest free Loan program Mr Bay and we just covered that all right the next item is to reschedule the reg the February regular board meeting um we have got in the month of February three board members that that are pretty much out of pocket the entire month of February that being said uh it's a it's recommended that the the February regular board meeting be rescheduled to January 29th of 2025 that that is a Wednesday day um any any comments any oh do I have a motion I'm sorry I move second second any discussion the 29th of of July January I will be very available for February and so um this work for me I just heard you tell Candace you're going to be out of town I'll be yes at an undisclosed Florida location yes there I mean like I said up to three but primarily three for the entire month any other discussion roll call uh well my only concern with the 29th is that it's only it's two weeks away we have enough all of the information and things we need well yes we will do an agenda setting meeting earlier to to to get that out so everyone has yes we will be doing that appropriately and we budget by then yes I've already one note regarding date as well for the board um what Mr Bay just told us we really need to get that amended budget by January 31st so January 29th is optimal yeah this this just transpire yes all right any other questions discussion all right roll call please Bates hi kimal hi hon hi rer Holz hi very good thank you okay uh Board of Education reports I discussion I'm sorry L right over there if I may uh we we had a board retreat last year um we I was asked for this board meeting to discuss a date and being able to secure a location it takes time to secure a location uh so to get reservations out ahead of time would help us a lot uh the district was able to secure the Hideway for Saturday April 26th uh it gives us two or three months to get ready but we have to have three months notice or so to be able to do that uh we suggest that you do it then um it's 9 to 1 p.m would be the suggested time you will serve lunch if you do that and it's in North Colorado Springs basically in the Monument area but it's North Colorado Springs you used the facilitator Ross Bard last year he is available on that date this year he confirmed uh I got a lot of positive feedback on Ross so that would be our recommendation what is it April 26 um did we look into any locations up here in Woodland Park so it's more convenient for all of the board members to actually get to disc I don't have a problem well we have discussed this in that very question in the past and it's it's just a chance to get away and it's really not that far away to have this to to go someplace new we're here we're we're here for everything related to the board that's that's really not that far of a of a trip is it I mean you don't care for that well it's an hour yeah an hour drive well I mean it's once a year I know they in the past they've done it much further away this was kind of of a good um good happy medium others comments no I don't have a problem driving them down there all the time anyways but it was a nice venue together is the venue um are the how are the Acoustics last year the venue I would say was pretty atrocious for actual conversation and the sticks in this one better carpeted maybe yeah just to make sure that there's not a misunderstanding this is not the same venue as last year the one we had last year was a larger open room and it did have an echo issue uh the Hideway is a little smaller more intimate setting uh the rooms are reasonable but they're softer and they the Acoustics are much better and this will accommodate the PE people who will come public that will come and okay and April 26 and you said the hi it's the Hideway and where is it again I it's Walker Road in North Colorado Springs I apologize I thought it was excuse me no it's not the same place but it's in the same area any other comments discussion well yeah I I would like to discuss um I know you had Ross iard again from I I liked him I thought he did a good presentation were there are do we have other options that we might be able to consider or is it this is the only one this is just the recommendation we could it's it's up to the board if you if you want me look for some other facilitators I'll certainly do that but or if you have one you want to recommend we can do that this is just discussion well I'm available but I really wouldn't be a very good at we I will I will say that I strongly believe in a retreat it's good to have a facilitator someone that doesn't have any particular passions and the things to be discussed but keeps it moving along that's why you usually have a facilitator and all the Retreats I've done we've always had one uh Ross has done it two or three times in times pass twice this will be the second time for this board I've had to do it on the other one as well I've always has got pretty good feedback from him but if you have another one you'd like us to consider U we're happy to do that I thought he was good at facilitating but um will our agenda be a little bit different than last year's uh yes that's that's up to the board president it's like any other agenda board president superintendent will agree on an agenda after he convers with you guys and we'll nail it down but that's pretty far pretty far out at this point well I would like to have us to have a discussion of what do we want to cover during our Retreat what are what are the important points that we want to do discover or discuss and come together on for this school specific to our school district a lot of them have been you know how do we you know how do we set our priorities uh how do we find Common Grounds of conversation so this one I would I was hoping in the past that we would say here's where we see want to see our school in a certain length of time and what are the steps to get there how do we measure success and failure so again I'd like to throw that out there I think that we've done a good job I mean going from the bottom 2third of the you know traditional public schools in the state to number 18 is significant I mean that's great but if we were able to communicate that here's our goal here's how we're going to get there and here's how we're measuring success you know I I would like that to be a good starting point for how for a facilitator now if this gentleman if uh Ross is if that's his well he won't set the agenda right I you set the agenda just keep you honest so I mean that's something that I I was I would like us to talk about maybe I jumped jumped ahead too far here but you might want to maybe schedule an agenda for that so we don't have time to consider it we're going to talk about well I mean uh Keegan has mentioned in the past uh some ideas that she wanted to discuss in event like this maybe we said a set a time frame to to get your suggestions and ideas in so we can use that in the process of forming that agenda you know whe whether they'll be all they won't be all the same but that's a good idea David we could set a time frame to get people's feedback and I mean that is a ways out but time flies I would say by the March meeting no no later since this is in April would it be okay if I have Candace's board ladies on send a communication and a request for ideas for the agenda to all the board members pull it together for you and then and then uh Nick you can work it if wouldn't that be handy for me is everyone comfortable with that yeah because I agree I think we need some pretty hard goals written down and we had this conversation we were doing the um superintendent annual review as well um I'd like to to see us discuss setting specific goals for our superintendent as well I think that's part of the way we get to a more successful school um is by making sure we're holding everybody accountable so I'll add that to the list that I email right I mean when when this goes out put put down your thoughts and ideas and and we'll form our agenda from that everyone good with that yeah just as long as it's um completed enough time for you to have mention out we'll yeah we'll bring this back next month for a vote then if anyone has another facilitator suggestion or something else we'll take in the input and then uh uh we'll bring back a final recommendation from from okay so we we'll hold till the March meeting to yeah AG you satisfied with that and so one month will be enough time to we're so let me understand there's couple things that I see in place here we have the facility so the facility is secured now or yeah we we can only hold it for a couple of weeks so that's why I'm trying to get some feedback if you are okay with the B me location you want to do a retreat like you have we can't hold it forever but we put a hold on it so we could suggest today that's why I want to clarify what do we need to do today because I need to get feedback whether or not I have a satisfactory number the other thing is a facilitator what you know facilitator how far out do we have to book Kim I guess it's easy if it's on a sooner is sooner is better yeah sooner is better right again this one's available we check that but if you want to go with something else figure it out so and then we will get our goal to him so well but that you got plenty of time for that if we could lock down the location in the facilitator you can work the agenda for two months right yeah easy easily and if it I mean this particular facility that shouldn't it shouldn't have an impact on that if we were to select someone different right so I mean are we all comfortable with that location so that we could be sure to tie it up I don't okay that's good all right then well then we will not take that any further [Music] tonight okay moving on now to board of education reports I would just remind everyone that this report of of of your activity or activity that you participated in Sue I heard you were very active here recently this would be the time to discuss those things whatever they might be I have one um the Bose meeting is next week January 21st Tuesday and it's here in this room um at the Woodland Park conference room at 5:30 p.m. so we'll be I'll get my agenda here soon but probably continuing updating the conversation on um the Bose and the Au and where we're going others um I have one not necessarily a thing I attended but I was um contacted by a representative from Tessa um up here in um Tyler County um and and she was just letting us know about um some of the different programs that they provide um and their desire to partner with the schools to help facil at some of these programs with our students um so I'll email you all the information that she sent to me but it was on um you know helping our our um student population understand what healthy relationships look like um preventing you know teen Dating Violence um which was something that I was asked about a lot while I was campaigning to join the board what the board was going to do to help prevent that so this could be something that we can do um you know don't need to reinvent the wheel it's already created um as well as H handling like stress that comes with school and sports um and then um bullying so I think there's some really good programs there I'll send that out to you but I wanted to make a formal report and let you know that it's here and that she is uh willing to present at the next board meeting now the dates change so I'm not sure she'll still be available for that but if we want to hear more information you're going you you'll put send an email out thank you anyone else okay well then have a motion to adjourn second second meeting adjourned voting no arth hi hi no yes here all night if you want director rest well you
